Jimmy Garoppolo And The Bucs

February 18th, 2026

The Bucs seem to love everything with a tie to the Sean McVay offense in Los Angeles.

Heck, the Rams head coach himself sat down last year for the Buccaneers’ fancy documentary chronicling their 50-year history, Raise The Flags.

After watching Bucs backup Teddy Bridgewater play against those Rams last season, Joe thinks it’s reasonable to suggest the Bucs could use an upgrade at the position.

Enter Jimmy Garoppolo.

The veteran QB with 47 wins under his belt spent the past two seasons as Matt Stafford’s backup with McVay and the Rams. Garoppolo is a pending free agent who earned just $3 million.

Joe can’t think of a reason why the Bucs wouldn’t be interested in at least sniffing Garoppolo. He should be an easy fit into the Bucs’ new/tweaked McVay offense under former McVay quarterbacks coach and passing game czar Zac Robinson.

Also, Joe doesn’t see Baker Mayfield feeling threatened by Garoppolo, who turns 35 in November.

Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht brought Garoppolo in for a pre-draft visit back in 2014. The Bucs didn’t pick him and he was selected by the Patriots at No. 62 overall. Tampa Bay stuck with starting quarterback Josh McCown.

    Jimmy G is trash.

  2. Winny Testaverde Says:

Jimmy G-String would be adequate. I’m sure the Rams are ready to move off of him…looming threat to pour the coals to Kelly Stafford.

    Except competent coaching I guess.

    Go Bucs

  4. Baking with Robinson Says:

It’s a no brainer for a backup. Get him!!!

Hopefully our OC will demand Baker to be benched if he is hurt and creating interceptions because of it.

    Let’s go!!!

  5. Fred McNeil Says:

For about 15 minutes he was a big hopeful in San Fran if I remember right. Turned out to be too fragile to be #1 and…much like Bilgewater…never really recovered from a serious injury. If I remember right, anyway. I wouldn’t be totally against it, but I’d rather have someone younger and more durable.

  6. Teacherman Says:

The Broncos taught every team an important lesson.

If you want to win a Super Bowl,

You better have a damn good backup in the building!

  7. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

I would pass on Jimmy GaBridgeoppolowater. Draft or sign someone younger. You know, with a pulse.

  8. BA’s Red Pen Says:

    He looks like George Blanda

  9. D-Rok Says:

What about that FA QB Tyler Huntley? Like Mayfield, he can also run some.

  10. JoeyJoeStein Says:

Make it a 2’fer and bring in Vince Ferragamo.

  11. Allen Lofton Says:

Its amazing the Bucs stuck with Josh Macown as their quarterback. What a pathetic decision by a pathetic coach. The Glazers need to pull the 🔌 when all signs scream the obvious.

  12. Outrigger Says:

Say what you will about Jimmy G. but he is a HUGE upgrade over Teddy and Trask.

  13. BucsFan81 Says:

Jimmy G is better than noodle arm Teddy but neither one of them is going to do much if Baker gets hurt.

  14. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

    Baker…. “ feeling threatened “
Should not be part of the equation!

  15. westernpennafan Says:

Enough with all these washed up retreads.
Show some drafting savvy and pick up some young gun.
After you get that ND super back you can find a young QB and the rest defensive picks.
Save the big free agent moves to grab a couple of ready to go young backers or edge rushers.
The Bucs have a good relationship with the Steelers. Herbig or Queen might be possible if the Bucs would call. Herbig is looking real good and lines up all over the field. Hunts QBs and the ball relentlessly and he does it with speed oves.

  16. BucaneroJim Says:

    Check his teeth, first.

  17. Aqualung Says:

We’d have the handsomest QB duo in the NFL, anyway.

  18. Freddy PA Moxie Says:

Jimmy G’s claim to fame was when an AI app turned the starting QBs of several years ago in women. Jimmy’s transformation was at the top of the list.

    I’m not…You know.

But if I had to… Well… You know.

    I joke.

  19. RASH Says:

awesome i think George Blanda played until he was 72!!!!!!give me him and Johnny Unitas Endless superbowl wins real mennot like lamar the ultimate loser jackson

Still can’t figure out why Teddy looked so lifeless in that game. Like he didn’t want to be out there ad was just going through the motions. Regardless of whether he was ready or capable, showing some fire doesn’t take much.

Spoiled food is an upgrade over nothing, if you’re starving.

  22. Faspro Says:

    Better than Bridgewater

  23. Kenton Smith Says:

Freddy PA Moxie. Whoever didn’t laugh at that one needs to read it again. I ain’t joking!

  24. Freddy PA Moxie Says:

Kenton, I appreciate that you appreciate my humor! lol

  25. Kenton Smith Says:

BucaneroJim. Great job. And along came Freddy with a moxie like Mayfield!

  26. 813bucboi Says:

Also, Joe doesn’t see Baker Mayfield feeling threatened by Garoppolo

thats the PROBLEM!!!!!!!…Baker doesnt want to be challenged!!!!!

sign Malik Willis and Trey Lance…

Malik is starting QB material and he knows the west coast system…Trey is purely a back up but he’s athletic and he also knows the system

    GO BUCS!!!!

  27. Kenton Smith Says:

Hey, Aqua is here! Yeah, Baker is a handsome QB. Jimmy G. is a pretty QB. Big difference.

  28. Robert Says:

I say draft Ty Simpson and let him learn behind Mayfield . Before he got hurt and was having his brains beat in at Alabama he was brilliant. I am telling you, whomever gets Simpson is going to get a heck of a player. His upside is too good to pass up.

  29. Robert Says:

By the way I am going to come back here in a few years and say Now what do you think? Remember when Brady or Brock Purdy was drafted? I’m telling you, he is going to blow people away. Go look at his first 6 games of the year.

  30. David Says:

Pepper saying He’s trash, really? This is for backup QB and he would be the best one the Bucs have had in a long, long time.

  31. LynchMob50 Says:

If Bowles likes him then so do I. Teddy B was a first-rate backup.

Our HC\DC won three straight division titles on his own with no help.

There isn’t another NFL HC in history that can say that.

    In Todd we trust!

  32. Outrigger Says:

We can worry about drafting a quarterback next year. Next year is shaping up to be one of the strongest QB drafts in years and thanks to Todd we’ll be picking in the top 10.

  33. gbobucsfan Says:

    IS Trask available?

  34. Tony Says:

I say sign Kurt Warner then. He’d be cheaper.

  35. Tony Says:

Then sign Stafford when he decides to leave.

  36. Tony Says:

If Marc Bulger is around somewhere then sign him, too!

  37. adam from ny Says:

wow, totally forgot about the existence of jimmy g…it’s like he disappeared into thin air in my mind…haha…i never even contemplated where he went or if he was out of the league recently…

anyways, he would be a nice back up to bake…sign him if the price works…think a costco pizza, a costco hot dog and soda, or a costco rotisserie chicken

  38. jonny Says:

Am i the only person who thinks getting rid of Trask last year and getting Bridgewater, hurt the dynamic in our qb room. I don’t know much about Bridgewater, he seems to be an alright guy. But Mayfield stated he liked Trask a lot and was sad to see him go. And with how Bridgewater played it doesn’t really seem like he was an upgrade over Trask. So it seems like it was a bad move to risk hurting our qb room vibe just to get a guy that wasn’t an upgrade at backup QB. It seems like it was a decision that Bowles liked so I’m putting that on him

  39. Let em Bake Says:

Get the real Gus Swayze…. Minschew 🙂

  40. PassingThru Says:

    Captain Check Down.

I say pass on Jimmy G. Five yards.

  41. dmatt Says:

    No No and more No!!!
