For this GM to have franchise tagged Chris Godwin twice, extending him once when his leg was broken, I’d expect Evans to be back and by any means necessary: including the franchise tag.
If Licht gets cute and we lose Evans, I’ll be calling for a new GM and HC if we fail to make the playoffs next season and Evans goes elsewhere. Simple as that.
Good for you. I care because I believe Mike Evans is still a baller and gives us the best chance to win. If they let him walk, and we suck, I’ll be calling for a new HC/GM.
The take care of our free agents and keep all our draft picks model is broken. If it really built culture we would not have collapsed like we did. Time to start treating this like a business instead of a family cause the players don’t care an out the team the way the team cares about them. Sad but that is where we are.
This is a 7 win team talent wise and 7 win teams can’t over pay a hall of famer wide receiver who is in the twilight of his career struggles to stay healthy and struggles to get seperation.
To overpay Evans is crazy when you don’t have the talent to compete on the field.
Hurts my soul to say this but you can’t pay him like a superstar offer him a team friendly deal and a chance to retire as a buccaneer legend like he is.
Honestly, even before he got injured he was way, way behind the pace for another 1000 yard season. $22 or 23 million is more than what he is actually worth.
ME, come back and get the Bucs a ring. You, the Bucs and your fans deserve it – EXCEPT for the constant cry babies and idiots on the JBF comment section.
It’s not my money to spend, but $23 million seems reasonable. No way would I tag him.
I would like Mike Evans to retire a Buccaneer…but, in my opinion, this should be the last year the Bucs should offer him 20+.
I think the whole free agency thing is a bluff by his agent though. Mike was key in convincing Chris Godwin to take substantially less to stay. He’s going to be willing to do the same.
I picked other. I think Mike is gone so he can ring chase while he still can, a la Rice at the end of his career. Mike has earned it. He’s taken discounts and restructured contracts his whole career.
Face facts yall, the Bucs team we knew is gone and Mike staying won’t help this team win more. Paying $20+ mil for older, injured WRs isnt smart with a team that has this many holes. This roster needs serious rebuilding and that starts by getting rid of expensive contracts. This is the last season for these old, oft-injured players. Thats why Licht wants to keep flexibility for the future.
No extensions and no big name FAs this off-season. This will be a very lean year. When the team shat the bed down the stretch that was a sign that the leadership cant lead and many of the players on this team aren’t very talented and obviously the coaching is horrific.
Prepare to be underwhelmed. Not being negative, just reading the writing on the wall.

Voted “don’t care” but think they should keep him.

Don’t Care. They are going to do what they want to. It’s not my money to even worry about it.

All of those are below the franchise tag. I’d pay the man 30 million if he wants it.

Well, if SteveK is calling for it …

Thank you for your service, go get a ring, you deserve another.
Investing money into a declining player, even one we love, is a bad, bad move for the franchise.
