Chase Daniel Raves About Bucs QB Coach Chandler Whitmer

February 5th, 2026

Former NFL QB big fan of Bucs QB coach Chandler Whitmer.

Yeah, sure, someone will hammer Joe for quoting this former quarterback. But Joe makes zero apologies for heeding the words of a guy who played in the league, something Joe never did and Joe’s guessing most readers here didn’t either.

Longtime NFL quarterback Chase Daniel, who spent a lot of time with Andy Reid and Sean Payton, has carved out a nice little career for himself talking and analyzing football whether it’s his YouTube channel or working for the four-letter.

And it seems he and new Bucs quarterback coach Chandler Whitmer have history with each other as player-coach — in both directions.

Daniel worked with Whitmer when the future Bucs assistant was a camper at the Elite 11 camp, which is only for the top quarterback prospects in high school. A few years later, the tables were turned. Whitmer was an offensive assistant with the Chargers and Daniel was backing up Justin Herbert.

When news broke this week that Bucs lured the co-offensive coordinator and quarterback coach of the national champion Hoosiers to Tampa Bay to join Zac Robinson’s offensive staff, Daniel took to Twitter to crow about Whitmer.

When you look at Whitmer’s resume and all the quarterbacks he’s been around, it’s hard for Joe to believe that if the Bucs and Baker Mayfield do anything this year, Whitmer will likely be a college head coach somewhere in 2027.

Or, Whitmer will be an offensive coordinator somewhere in the NFL in 2027. Joe just hopes that won’t be working for Robinson somewhere else.

Bucs Make Maybe Most Intriguing Hire In Years

Just hoping Robinson can at least hold up his end of things as Bowles fields his normal underperforming D & sanity returns to the organzation in ’27, with possibly Robinson as the new HC (though open to other options as well depending on who’s available) and Whitmer as his OC for at least a year.

  2. Crazyhorse54 Says:

Seems like Robinson is staffing to succeed. Have there been any like signings on the defensive staff?

  3. Bucnbeers Says:

Robinson and Whitmer Bucs new head Coach and OC? I kinda like it.

  4. Lessismore Says:

    Think it’s a great hire.
Now what’s going on with assistants on the other side of the ball?

  5. Ha-Ha-Ha Says:

You have Todd for two more years.
Everyone is screaming about no black coaches being hired..
The G’s aren’t going to change colours in that environment.
Todd should have been kicked this year and he would have been hired next year.

The good news is the possibility that teams will have their arms twisted by the League
to hire preferred candidates and the Bucs keep their coaches.

  6. Bee Says:

You know your favorite team is exciting when you’re talking about the QB coach. 🤣

  7. Nutterbuccer Says:

If robinson succeeds like we all hope.he does hopefully he stays more than a year or just takes over. We cant keep losing the OC…has anyone done any research on a team switching OC so much. We gotta be the most all time.

  8. BillyBucco Says:

Why haven’t we heard about the Defensive Staff?
I mean we are about to hit FA and surely the new coaches need to be involved in personnel. I guess we are going to tell the coaches who they have and then proceed to watch them play guys out of position or ask them to do what they aren’t good at.
    Please somebody stop this guy.

  9. Hodad Says:

Excited about Robinson, and the staff he’s put together. Then I remember Bowles is still in charge, and I come back to reality.

  10. 1sparkybuc Says:

Our defenses have been among the worst in the entire league foe five consecutive years. The DC responsible for this is also the HC. What’s the attraction for any coach to come to TAMPA? Oh yeah, the weather is great, and no state tax. Odds are it’s just a one year Florida vacation, and then looking for a job at some college in 2027.

The area where I live is divided between Fleagles fans and Giants fans, with a smattering of Jets fans thrown in. Most were born and raised here. Some have homes on the Gulf coast of Florida. I’ve lived here for over twenty years. I can count the number of Buc fans that I’ve seen/met on one hand. The fanbase in Florida is always going to be diluted with the fans of other teams. That’s never going to change. I’m never going to stop being a fan of the team, but I won’t be paying to see all of the games, knowing the defense will continue to be the handicap. If they’re on TV here, I will watch them. It’s depressing to have owners with so little interest in winning.

    lol…

    define “anything” joe!!!

ANYTHING short of an NFC Championship game appearance and he’ll be back in the cornfields of Indy!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

Looks like the dude from The Office, named after the dude from Friends.

  13. Steve V. Says:

As long as Bowles is around the bucs are on the highway to hell ,Jason

  14. Well well well Says:

Bee you are so ignorant and negative. There are 50-75 articles a month written on this site about this team and you “think” doing 1 on a new, exciting coach makes this team boring. No wonder you can’t stand Baker Mayfield. I would say you have lost your mind but I’m not sure you ever had one. Go find a new team to complain about.

    Love this addition…

    Jack Strand szn

  17. Aqualung Says:

    Great.

We all know in 2025, it was everyone else’s fault but Todd. So good the Bucs retained Todd and fired everyone else.

  18. Teacherman Says:

    Great hire.

I’m also happy with the OC hire.

Robinson knows how to call plays and handle the pressure of the NFL.

I like Grizzard. But handing him the OC job last year was insane.

The guy is a genius. But he has never called plays before. Ever. At any level.

Geesh! Talk about throwing a guy into the fire!

I hope Grizzard does well in Philadelphia.

It’s not easy being fired. It hurts.

Nonetheless. Hiring Grizzard last year as OC was not wise.

I’m very happy we will have an experienced OC this year.

Maybe Robinson can teach Bowles about the weaknesses in his defense.

Bc Robinson has destroyed Bowles’s defense multiple times

  19. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

I had heard that most of the defensive staff were going to be current DB assistant coaches. The Bucs just haven’t gotten around to officially naming them in to their new positions. The only outside defensive hire was either the LB or DL coach from Buffalo?

  20. Newbie Says:

Can he coach the defense please?

  21. Tye Says:

As long as Robinson or Whitmer move to the Bucs next HC IF they are successful, then GREAT!…
IF not, clean house for McDermott OR a top OC that comes out this season…

Can he coach the defense please?

    Defense was ranked 19th
    Offense was ranked 21st

He has his hands full already getting the offense out of the gutter 😬

  23. John J Barse Says:

robinson is betting on being head coach next season and this guy as offensive coordinator

  24. Fanofdabucs Says:

Offense will be fine…all the offensive talk all off-season.

Can we talk defense? Bowles? Rearranging the deck chairs while the captain of the ship keeps hitting icebergs?

  25. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“He has his hands full already getting the offense out of the gutter 😬“

    We scored 380 points.

    Money McLaughlin accounted for 128.

    Defense scored 14

Meaning our offense scored 238 point w/the inclusion of 2 made 2-pt tries.

    238/6=39.667
    -or-
    26 pass TDs
    13 rush TDs
    2-2 pointers.

We scored 122 less points than the we did 2024. We’ve got about 123 reasons to be better in ‘26, than we were this past season.

  26. Paco Says:

    “Offense will be fine”

Thats what many of you, including at least one Joe, said last offseason.
You were wrong to assume the offense would repeat the previous years (statistical) success and you’re wrong if you think its not a MAJOR concern this year.

  27. Mveal2006 Says:

Extremely important tgat he develop a backupcqb and more

  28. Bucamania Says:

    This guy does sound promising
