Baker Mayfield: Bucs’ Offensive Line Beat The Seahawks

February 3rd, 2026

What a day it was on October 5th. The Bucs were the toast of the NFL world after beating the Seahawks in Seattle 38-35.

Where did that Bucs offense go — as Seattle marched a path to the Super Bowl?

Charlie Heck and Luke Haggard started on the Tampa Bay offensive line. Ryan Miller started at receiver while Mike Evans sat out with a hamstring injury. Bucky Irving was inactive.

And the Bucs offense was electric.

Baker Mayfield threw for 379 yards and 2 touchdowns and Rachaad White found two rushing scores.

Mayfield reflected on that huge game during his recent visit to the WFLA streaming property known as The Rondé Barber Show.

The Bucs were ready for a safety pressure scheme from Seattle with Cover-2 defense behind hit, Mayfield noted. “When they ran that coverage, we gutted them pretty good,” he said.

But Mayfield said the game was won courtesy of the offensive line playing well and rattling Seattle’s Pro Bowl defensive tackle Leonard Williams.

“Honestly, it was all based on the guys up front blocking their tails off. If you handle Leonard Williams up front, it starts to make him really, really angry,” Mayfield said. “Then the whole [Seattle] team starts talking to each other. And that was really the difference. When we got down there, Leonard was starting to get angry, he got a personal foul and our guys could feel their frustration. So we were like, ‘We need our foot on the gas the whole time.'”

Joe plans to rewatch that Bucs-Seahawks game this week, fast-forwarding through the Bucs’ painful defense in the second half.

  1. Mike Johnson Says:

Who cares, Baker? They are in the Super Bowl partly because their defense swarms, hits, and gets to the QB. And Ours?

  2. #99 the big fella Says:

And of course, the first comment is someone being negative

  3. Teacherman Says:

    Sign Hendrickson to replace Hall.

Trade for Maxx Crosby to replace Hassan 2.5 Reddick.

  4. MadMax Says:

That was a different seahawks team….just saying.

  5. Truth be Told Says:

can any of the Guys on the O-Line rush the passer?

    And your point?

I guess..False Equivalency…That was a one-off fun weekend, where everyone including Baker played out of their minds. The Saint swept us in both 2002 and in 2020. The Seahawks are now in the FOURTH superbowl since 2005, will be winning their second this sunday because they are NOT losing to New England. They were also the better team in 2014 and should have won that game if not for Pete Carrol.

At this point, I just want JL and the Glazers to commit to bringing in the right FAs to win some games. Barring Bowles pulling a Sherrone Moore, he is the HC for next season, whether we want him here or not.

  9. Hodad Says:

You don’t get a hat, and tee shirt for beating Seattle earlier in the season. It was a nice win. Ahh those were the days.

  10. LynchMob50 Says:

We also nearly lost to the Jets and Cardinals.

The Rams had to go into offensive exile in order to not embarrass Bowles further.

2025 was year four of this poorly coached lousy schemed regime.

And every year we get a long sustained losing streak without real explinations as to why.

Gee, I wonder why that is???????

“Just gotta get better” Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

It still took a miracle interception off of a terrible Sam Darnold pass to win that game. Our defense couldn’t stop anything.

  12. Alanbucsfan Says:

Mayfield didn’t turn the ball over.
    Darnold did
    That was the difference

  13. adam from ny Says:
