Will Fans Matter?

January 3rd, 2026

Team Glazer members.

A majority of Bucs fans want Todd Bowles launched from his perch as Tampa Bay head coach. The groundswell has been stunning across local fandom over the past month.

Even calm, measured fans Joe has known for years are chirping for Bowles’ head.

“Fans are smart. Fans know right. Fans know wrong.”

You know who issued that intelligent quote? Buccaneers co-owner Joel Glazer.

Speaking at the 2015 NFL owners meetings, Glazer was asked, “How important is the pulse of the fans to you in every thing you do?”

Glazer responded:

Ultimately, we want our fans to be happy because that means we’re having success. That’s the barometer,” Glazer began.

“You know, fans want a winning team. We want a winning team. They want a team they can be proud of. We want a team we can be proud of. Everyone’s interests are aligned. So I wouldn’t say you take the fan temperature on every single thing that’s going on.

“I always say, ‘Fans are smart. Fans know right. Fans know wrong.’ Fans know when something is being done right. They know when something is wrong.

“It’s always important to be in touch with your fans and know how they feel and see how they feel about things going on in the stadium, how they’re going on with the team, and everything. So you can’t disconnect yourself from the fans. At the same token, you’ve got to take a measured approach.”

Joe finds it hard to believe Team Glazer, any one of them, could look a serious Bucs fan in the face this week and detail exactly why Todd Bowles is the guy to lead the Bucs to the Super Bowl again.

Sure, Team Glazer could offer plenty of reasons why Bowles was handicapped this season via injuries, talent, etc., but those are not reasons affirming the positive: that the team is on the right track with the right leader.

Fans matter.

And fans, as a collective body, are very rarely unreasonable when it comes to the big picture of a team.

We all want to win, as Glazer eloquently explained.

    Well said Joe, Amen!

  2. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“Sure, Team Glazer could offer plenty of reasons why Bowles was handicapped this season via injuries, talent, etc., but those are not reasons affirming the positive” – Joe

    Very well said.

  3. Pewter Power Says:

These football players are bored to death it’s no wonder the locker room is dead, he’s putting everyone to sleep. Todd Bowles has the effect of Ritalin and fans can’t take it so imagine the players

  4. Joe in Michigan Says:

    The Glazers know.

  5. Optimistic Says:

Bowles made the decision to leave the Bucs without a credible backup QB when he cut Trask. Bowles couldn’t sit Baker to recover from injuries because of no credible backup QB. That alone is reason enough to fire Bowles.

  6. Todd Says:

Glazers also do not hate their money, so eating Bowles remaining years may not be very palatable to them.

  7. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

Just the Walk of Shame into the annual NFL Owners Meeting should be enough justification to fire Bowels

  8. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

Bowels contract is peanuts in NFL money
I think he is in the 3 million a year ballpark

  9. Andrew Says:

Ownership has to know they blundered by not making Coen HC last year especially with the success he’s had this year. They chose to be loyal to a fault and didn’t make the difficult business decision that needed to be made. I think with all the fan backlash, the way the season has turned out and Coen’s success will push them to fire Bowles. I’m sure Bowles is a great man, is well respected, but this IS a business. I would expect to be let go if I’m Bowles. Injuries can’t be an excuse, look at what Shanahan is doing with the 49ers. Look at what McVay did with their special teams coach after one awful game. And look what what we’re doing (or what we’re not doing). This SHOULD be an easy decision for ownership.

  10. NorthgaBucs Says:

How much money will they lose if they do keep bowels? Not to mention season tickets, sweets and ultimately fans? We’ve progressively gotten worse and the arrow is pointing down…

  11. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

It is an 18″ putt to fire Bowels! You gotta make it!

  12. Baking with the next one Says:

When Bowles said I no longer have an answer to the problem the captains of the team have to fix it. He told the world I’m done looking for an answer. I will collect paychecks until i am fired. SMH

  13. Bosch Says:

Joel Glazer’s answer was a bald faced lie!

  14. DungyDance Says:

If Tomlin becomes available, or was made to become available…

  15. Deeboooo Says:

It won’t matter. Buc fans don’t support this team either way. Hence why the opponents fans also out number us. Glazers know that

  16. Nutterbuccer Says:

They paid for a 50 year documentary on Amazon prime they can afford Bowles salary. Lets be real they dont care about the salary part they never have when it comes to firing coaches why should they now. Wins equals more money and Bowles has proven to start hot then lose his team halfway thru the season 4 years in a row….time for a change

  17. adam from ny Says:

i as a bucs fan have developed a steady confidence in how the glazer gang handles all team operations from way up top…they will do what’s best…they don’t want this half season dip to turn into a true organizational culture plummet…

we’ve come a long way since the yucs of yesteryear

  18. Tony Says:

    @Pewter Power

That’s what I said & that’s why I say maybe that’s why McCollum was starting to “get bored.” He probably started to quit on him after awhile because nothing is changing because it’s the same old 💩 with Bowles & the rest of the team probably has, too!

  19. BucsFan81 Says:

Bowles is who he is. Average at best and that’s the end of it. You could put him as the coach of the most talented roster and he would still screw it up. He cost us going back to back champions against the Rams a few years back calling a zero blitz with cooper coup wide open. It’s been downhill since with him and his crappy defense. Send him to an Island with Mike Smith and they can cook up the worst defense in Bucs history together.

  20. BrianBucs Says:

The vast majority of the Bucs fanbase wants Bowles to be fired.
If the Glazers choose to retain him it will make them look very hypocritical

  21. 941bucsfan Says:

Who cares about bucs fans.. do you see who is coming to ray jay in 2026… its a dream when it comes to ticket sales for the glazers

  22. Tom Petty Says:

    “Fans are very rarely unreasonable”

    🤣🤣🤣

  23. Beeej Says:

Steelers fans want Tomlin gone just as badly as we want Todd gone

  24. Saskbucs Says:

Haha Deeebo … you may be right when it comes to attendance numbers but many people support this team.

If you want to see a stark difference in support from this year to next… bring back Bowles… then you will see what no support actually looks like.

  25. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Joe

On the subject of fans matter..

Will you be able to put up a clip of Genes farewell ( I assume he’ll have something on air today) ?

I can’t get the radio broadcast here, and would hate to miss what he has to say.

    Fire them cannons!

  26. adam from ny Says:

i’ve heard whispers that the bucs have secretly fancied the idea to have the first female head coach in nfl history…

hows that for a box of chicklets

  27. Conte Piscatelli Says:

We should have crowdfunded a billboard on Dale Mabry!! Uuugghh!

  28. Lakeland Says:

These Gullible Bucs fans don’t matter to the Glazers😂😂🤣🤣

  29. adam from ny Says:

the truth is the fans can do whatever they want…

if every fan bum rushed the field at say, halftime…and just peacefully stood on the field for like 3 hours, packed and tight like sardines, the 2nd half would not be played…

the fans…meaning the crowd…ultimately has control anywhere in any situation, on a grand numbers scale…

i’m not saying anyone should do anything, as i promote peace…but a rabid fanbase can ultimately take over any stadium at any time, and the tiny army of police or security, ain’t gonna do sh!t, except look to get back home to their families safe……facts

  30. Oldbucsfan Says:

When they start hitting their pocket hard enough, they’ll matter.

  31. Lakeland Says:

The Glazers get millions in revenue from the NFL,

They don’t need this backwards fanbase from Tampa
And they can always move this franchise to California
Where sone REAL money is at

You think they will miss these pennies from the Bay Area?

    I seriously doubt it

  32. HeartyDickerson Says:

Part of me wonders if the Glazers are having money issues (relatively speaking of course). And that’s why they unnecessarily gave Todd an extension and guaranteed Baker’s contract last offseason.

They were locking themselves into the cheapest feasible options for the near future. If they hadn’t done this, their hands would’ve been forced to go with more expensive options.

  33. Mhystc Says:

If Bucs keep Bowles, glazers will show that they don’t care about the fans or winning..

  34. Tye Says:

    Talk is cheap!…
The proof is in the pudding ..

Will his words prove to hold value and great worth or as empty and hollow as a politician before the election… We all will know ina matter of days!

  35. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Lakeland

California has struggled for decades to support and keep its teams. San Francisco being the exception.

Do you ever think about what you post before you do?

  36. Pewter Power Says:

Fans are rarely unreasonable? They play all NFC North & East teams AFC North and East (the chiefs missed the playoffs), the Steelers or ravens will miss the playoffs. Probably Miami again and the Jets.Yea I mean why want to have a say in what you choose to spend your money on. An empty stadium is not a good look.

  37. HC Grover Says:

The fans are on therun and Bowzo can not catch them.

  38. Lakeland Says:

These Gullible fans have been calling for Bowles job for years

Bowles has been here for 7 years, with 2 extensions

And these fans are still screaming for his job

Who cares what these fans want? No one cares

If the Glazers feel the team can be dramatically more successful by making Bowles walk the plank, I believe they will pull the trigger.

Yes, they’ll be paying out millions to Bowles, but they’ll make some or all of it back in other ways, especially if the change results in additional playoff games.

  41. MadMax Says:

I just want to see a competent D scheme! Stop having players run to the open parts of the field like they’re covering invisible men. Play Man coverage, have pass rushers and DT’s get after the QB, stop dropping LB’s into CB coverage….is that too much to ask?

  42. StormyInFl Says:

All of you saying the “Glazers are cheap” obviously never suffered through the Culverhouse years.

Go watch the series and come back with some perspective on what cheap REALLY looks like.

Well, not too many on here really acknowledge me… only if I mention Jon Gruden

However, maybe Joel Glazer at least reads me….. that would be enough!!! LOL

At least I make some difference

  44. adam from ny Says:

it’s so true…i often see guys running to open parts of the field covering the invisible 12th man…that’s the alien running wild in bowles head

  45. Gman Says:

The Glazers laugh at everyone of you the slogs your way to Raymond James and pays 200-300 bucks for the privilege to watch this trash and park your car and drink your $13 beer.

  46. adam from ny Says:

during the culverhouse years…early…79-82…as a kid i would write letters to players on the team…

somehow i figured out the correct address, and how to get it addressed correctly, with postage, to said dude…

leeroy, ricky, doug, dewey, maybe mike washington and cotney…etc batman maybe…i forget…

so i’d actually send them letters….

i always got a return large envelope from the player with a hand signed large photo or black and white picture…

and sometimes a note, or some surprise…

craziest thing i’d ever discovered as a child…

a friend in school as a kid said “send it send it, you’ll get a response it works!!”

    and i always got a response…

true story from those early years

  47. Gman Says:

Looking at the home non conference schedule next year…30-40000 opposing fans will be in the building. Have fun suckers.

  48. SBucs Says:

Todd Bowles is the Colin Robinson of head coaches.

  49. heyjude Says:

The Glazers do really care about the fans and community. We all remember what we had before.

Many fans are still rooting for the Bucs. Out today I ran into so many people with pewter Bucs on. Still hope and excitement out there. I like Todd and hope if he is let go that there is something else for him to do in the NFL. The players really like him. I also think, like Dungy, if Todd is let go another team will hire him quickly. And that could be something the Glazers are thinking about too.

  50. HeavyE Says:

I just saw the player photos of the players arriving for the game, we are in trouble, none of the players look like they care about this game, you would think these guys would come into this game really pissed off and angry! It’s not going to end well for us today! Let’s Go Bucs!!! Goodbye Licht,Bowels & baker! Thanks for nothing!!!!

  51. Daryl Green Says:

Very nice political answer by the G Family.

  52. HC Grover Says:

    My Sister says they stink.

  53. BigMacAttack Says:

If they make the mistake of keeping Bowles another year, it will cancel probably 75% of their season ticket sales. It will mark the beginning of another 10-15 years of perennial losers. It’s not just the coaching staff that needs an overhaul, but a lot of players need to go as well. Jason Licht fielded this team, and as much as like and trust him, he needs a strong warning from the owners. There is no excuse for a team that obviously just stopped caring. Their play has been 100% garbage since their bye week. Pitiful, pathetic, lazy, lethargic, inept, anemic, soft, sucky, incompetent, careless, stupid, brain dead, slow, and those are good things I can say about this team.

This is such a tired take.

The NFL doesn’t relocate teams on Twitter vibes or because a few fans are mad online. Tampa is a top-10 media market, publicly funded stadium, strong corporate base, and the Bucs just delivered multiple years of elite revenue growth post-Brady.

California already lost teams because the economics and politics are brutal. That’s not where franchises flee to anymore.

And calling Tampa “pennies” while ignoring TV contracts, revenue sharing, and league stability just tells me you don’t understand how the NFL actually works.

Be mad if you want — just don’t pretend it’s analysis.

  55. Deeboooo Says:

You all should also remeber, NfL is a profit sharing league. Of course a portion of the ticket sales and such go to the specific owners of that property, but you ain’t putting them outta business not going to games.

As long as the NFL is popular, they will get paid 🙂

  56. NCbucfan Says:

Adam from Ny, I might take the woman over Bowles for HC at this point. Maybe then, the players will actually play hard!

  63. purplebeard Says:

I’m beginning to think that the fans only matter in how much money they bet for the NFL-fanduel partnership. Can any sane person believe the NFL is NOT getting percentage of a big game?

  64. Tom Petty Says:

Shout out to the fans who care about the coaches and players and who want us to succeed more than they want to be right about who sucks and deserves excuses. 👍🏼

Let’s go Bucs – fuk the haters and the doubters – let’s kick some as$ today 🏈

  65. Marky mark Says:

This fan says fire Bowles and hire Alex Van Pelt . i alzo say find a competent back up QB. Today on tv Troy Aikman says a first-round QB bust is the organization s fault. Hire a QB whisperer such as Van Pelt, rehab Baker but find one of those busts such as Fields, or Tua or someone else.

  66. BigMacAttack Says:

It’s not about the Glazers losing money with an empty stadium. It’s the humiliation of knowing your fans hate you because you’ve kept a garbage coaching staff and player who have consistently shown they’re either hurt constantly or they lack the mentality to play in the NFL. Teams’ fans from across the Country will come to Tampa, enjoy the beaches and weather, then spend Sunday with 40-50,000 of their fans feel like it’s a home game, watching the Yucs get beat 45-3. New NFL scoring records will be set; 105-9, 10 passing touchdowns and 1000 yards of offense from their backup quarterback. It’s going to be epic. Or choose option B, clean house, make some good offseason trades and rebuild the team with a real NFL coach. When Bowles choked away the playoff game in TB12’s second season to the Rams, it was apparent to every fan that Bowles isn’t a good coach. So instead BA leaves and they promote him to Head Coach and have Leftbitch call the plays.

  67. Bucs3 Says:

    KEEP Bowles PLEASE

  68. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

  69. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I personally think the only way Bowles keeps his job is by winning a playoff game.

That would mean he won over his players again.

    Otherwise, I think he’s toast.

  70. MelvinJunior Says:

Yeah, and Shefty, SVP, and all of them are saying Bowles should KEEP HIS JOB and the BUCS FO would much prefer to KEEP HIM as well. When, EVERYONE ELSE WITH EYES have known for a loooong time, that he has to GO. Along with JL. I have a feeling there will be a HUGE percentage of Bucs Fans will be 💯 completely DONE with this entire ownership bunch and FO, the very minute they decide to drag their feet by continuing to prolong THIS for yet, ANOTHER SEASON. If they bring back both Lickt and Bowles, it’ll be OVER. Just more incompetence across the board. It will officially be a FAILED franchise with NO END in sight. So, there goes getting a leg up on the rest of the teams in this division. It’s just pure IGNORANCE. We’ll become the bottom feeders of the division, while we watch ALL-THREE of ATL, NO, & CAR pass us on by! NOW IS THE TIME. Right NOW.

  71. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Jason just said some really fool things to Gene on the radio.

  72. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Also, apparently it is already raining.

  73. Tony Says:

It would be nice if they’d make it a domed stadium this way everyone can stop dealing with the crappy weather constantly, too!

  74. Lakeland Says:

The NFL made $23 Billion in fiscal year 2024, a new record
Each team received $433 Million, their percentage of the revenue

Every NFL makes a profit, regardless of attendance

I’m sure the Glazers won’t lose any sleep over a few Yahoos boycotting their games. Nor will they lose any income. A large portion of the fans, are not even Bucs fans.

  75. Rick Says:

Please remember. The Glazers have billions. To buy out Todd’s contract is akin to any of us regular schlubs buying a sandwich at Jersey Mikes.

  76. Lakeland Says:

Another crappy day filled with rain. This spells doom for the defense and the game hasn’t even started. I will never understand why the stadium wasn’t covered decades ago. just stupid.

  79. Mike Says:

    When’s the game day thread?

  81. Bokeh Says:

  82. heyjude Says:

Mike – Nothing wrong with loving on people and signing autographs. It looked as though it was someone in military uniform that Baker stopped to give an autograph to. And he kissed his wife. Both wonderful things to do.

  83. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I think Bowles will be fired, but in the unlikely chance that he isn’t, we need:

    New ST coach
New OC coach (maybe…it could be argued that he was a rookie OC in an injury plagued season)
    A true dedicated DC
    More defensive draft picks
    A competant backup QB

In truth, it was unlikely the defense be fixed with one year of picks, especially when the first pick went to offense.

  84. BucaneroJim Says:

    Darcie Glazer for HC!

  85. Mike Says:

  90. Derrick Says:

@mile- your comment didn’t age well did it?? Go away troll

  91. MelvinJunior Says:

BS about it being “unlikely” to fix the defense in one draft. First of all, it’s now been at least 3-DRAFTS. And, THREEEEE Free Agency Periods, & etc. Furthermore, had LICKT NOT so miserably mishandled our salary cap and overall roster CONSTRUCTION, then we would NOT be here where we are RIGHT NOW. Godwin and Reddick ALONE were $35-MILLION+ of our available cap and BOTH were mostly NON factors. He drafted EE just to COVER HIS ASS after handing all that $$$ to Godwin, who barely even saw the field and PLAYED.

  92. MelvinJunior Says:

That $35-MIL+ would’ve gone a loooong way on helping THIS DEFENSE. Some of us SAID-IT THENNNNN. Just like with COHEN.

  93. BigZ Says:

Funny, I now live in ATL and they want Ra gone, just after two years.
They hired a consultant to evaluate their entire organization.
Two years and ATL want better. It’s all about your standards. They don’t to waste their stars prime years, makes sense.

Bowles had plenty of time and picks.

He will never get more than 10 wins out of his team.

  94. Rod stewart Says:

We have some garbage players and that’s not Bowles fault. Licht is an idiot

  95. Lakeland Says:

  98. Old Florida is GOAT Says:

Fans know this defense is a liability and won’t get them to the next level. In the same sense knowing Baker ceiling has been met. It’s time to draft a young quarterback and plan for the future.

  99. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Lifelong fan. Tuned in just in time to watch the blocked FG. This team doesn’t deserve to go to the playoffs. Time to re boot!

  100. firethecannons Says:

we need to fire Bowles, get a better defensive coordinator with better players. Keep Baker and do not extend him. Tag him when his time is up. Draft a better younger quarterback in a couple years. Beef up the defense. I would look forward to this.

  101. Tom Says:

    FLUSH TOILET BOWLES

  102. Debbie Says:

Once again we barely won. All teams suffer injuries. It is how you continue to play to win to be a winning team. The coaching staff had led us to Division titles in the past that we earned. This year, we have to hope the Saints beat the Falcons. Sad. If the Falcons win, there will be a three way tie for a losing season, and the winner will be whomever has the most wins against each other in our Division. A division of losing teams. Honestly, we have not been winning multiple post season games as division winners. Think about it. We lost to Miami last week, after they benched their qb. We played against a rookie qb. We haven’t earned the right to play outside our division, let alone the NFC East, West, or North division winners. But neither has the Saints, Falcons or Panthers. Our division needs to collectively hang their heads in shame. This season has proved that our whole division has not earned the right to a playoff berth.

  103. vadertime Says:

Bowles must go! This team is a very mediocre team and it starts at the top. Bowls 30-year NFL career speaks for itself- a very mediocre career.

  104. Robert Says:

I believe Todd has had four years weve regressed we need somebody offensive and experienced as cordinator as headcoach Todd Monken fits that bill i believe after two years will put us over the top

  105. 2cents Says:

The fire Bowles mantra is old and tired, as is the let’s show the glazers the fans matter song. The one thing that fans will always be attracted to…is optimism. New season, nfl draft, a couple of pointless firings and hirings, more hit and eventually miss free agent signings, more failed expectations of young defensive players, most talented team (in a garbage division), blah, blah, blah.

You want to make a statement? Do the impossible. No attending home games, buy no season tickets, buy no more jerseys/caps/ etc. The rich can hear a dime drop…they can also hear when it doesn’t drop in their pockets.

If we’re all so fed up, then…
