What Rachaad White Really Said About Todd Bowles
January 19th, 2026
The phrase “out of context” is often used to describe a wrong interpretation of what someone said or meant to say.
“Out of context” is thrown around a lot by fans and NFL types and players when they moan about the media. Sometimes it’s fair criticism; sometimes it’s not.
That brings Joe to pending free agent running back Rachaad White, who delivered solid service to the team after being a Tampa Bay third-round draft pick in 2022.
White joined the Loose Cannons podcast last week and was asked about the status of head coach Todd Bowles. White had plenty to say but figuring out exactly what he said and meant is a challenge.
Joe will best explain by letting White’s words speak for themselves.
How surprised are you, Rachaad, that Todd [Bowles] is still the head coach of the Bucs? White was asked.
“I mean, it’s crazy because I don’t really know. I’m just being real with you,” White replied.
“My boy asks all these questions, the same thing, like how I feel about this or that. I tell him, ‘no disrespect,’ I tell him the truth; I can only be real with him. I be like, ‘That’s not my problem. That’s not my issue.’ Before I had to sign off of Twitter because of my actions and my [public relations] lady telling me the truth and the real, which is ok. … I seen Coach Bowles’ press conference that he had, and he said, obviously, he was strong and confident that he did deserve a chance [for 2026] because what he has done and been in the playoffs since he’s been a head coach besides this year, which I understand, rightfully so. If I hear about him saying that, I be like Ok, ‘Do he deserve another chance? Yeah. Probably so.’
“I do think it’s tough because records are records and I understand people throw that out there. And they got playoff records and [records] against good teams, and stuff like that. I even try to look at our playoff games.
“My rookie year, yeah, we got wacked by Dallas. Oh, man, that was one of the worst losses — I think the Rams this year overdid that one. They were two of my worst losses in my football career. — Ok, then the next year [in the playoffs] we beat the Eagles and then we go to Detroit and barely lose. I thought we really should have won that game and gone to the NFC Championship game in San Fran. And then we come out the following year [in the playoffs] and we do lose to the Commanders, which was tough. That one was tough. And then obviously this year we don’t make the playoffs. So it’s kind of stuff. I feel like, and obviously I’m not an executive, I just think you get rid of a lot of the staff, you could kind of should just go ahead; and I’m not wishing for nobody’s job to get taken, but I think you should probably just like, you know, get new everything.
“But I do understand where [the Bucs are] coming from and where [Bowles] is coming from on the aspect of they’re probably like, ‘Yeah, another year [for Bowles] won’t be bad, won’t be a bad, I guess, chance to just see. Everybody know what it is with this year and what’s going on with him and go from there.’ [But the Bucs are] getting new staff, so hopefully, yeah, you can hire the right [offensive coordinator,] which ain’t easy, which is tough. But you try to do the best you can and see if you can go from there. I think that’s the biggest thing.
“I’m not trying — because people clip [for social media], but it is what it is. I’m just being real. — I do feel like Coach Bowles, there’s nothing wrong with it, but I do feel like it would be easier on him if he would — I’m speaking obviously, you know, me speaking on his situation — but I do think he should let somebody else call defense and he’d just be a head coach. I do feel like he’ll probably be better off by doing that so he can focus on literally just the head coaching, and just trust it. You know what I’m saying? He got the right defense staff and things like that.”
White went on to say how he sees defensive coordinator and offensive coordinators around the NFL call plays, get promoted to be head coach and then deal with a huge burden of both jobs. He referenced it being tough duty on Sean McVay with the Rams, and he reiterated he thinks life would be easier for Bowles if he only was a head coach.
Across the Internet, White’s very long and winding answer turned into various takes, Joe believes, that were somewhat out of context.
What Joe can say with certainty is that White punted on a golden opportunity to state firmly that Bowles is a good head coach and thoughts of getting rid of him are ridiculous. Joe would argue Baker Mayfield punted similarly twice this season.

What does it even matter, the Glazers don’t care what the fans or players think. They just want to save money since the very stupidly extended Bowles. Now we all pay.
January 19th, 2026 at 12:53 pm
Another year with Bowles “probably won’t be bad” lol
January 19th, 2026 at 12:54 pm
What did he just say? I felt dumber after the first paragraph. He’s trippin. Or something.
January 19th, 2026 at 12:58 pm
Manchester Buccaneers……pathetic
January 19th, 2026 at 12:59 pm
I would fire him because he lost the team.. now he’s got to build a whole new coaching staff to be on the world’s hottest seat..has to not hire the guy that can take his job mid-season if the offense is great and Def is bad..
Smartest thing he can do is hire a dcord..if defense is playing bad fire him mid-season and call plays again and prat the defense respond to him calling again n play good it’ll make him look like a genius and save his job..optics are everything
January 19th, 2026 at 12:59 pm
It is not just Bowzo…It is the whole thing. People are just disgusted.

I know you think you understood what you thought he said;but, what you thought you understood him to say, isn’t neccesarily what he meant.

I listened to it & it gave me serious concerns. I am sure just about everyone thats on the site has been on some kind of sports team & you if haven’t forgive my assumptions below…
BUT anyone who’s been on a team knows its never 1 guy that thinks this sort of thing, and you are foolish if you dont think that there are factions on that team that not only think this but have lost confidence in Bowles, period. In our recent history, if a player was asked about Bruce Arians like this, they would rave about the guy. This was not a raving endorsement by any means.
I think if the bucs can get a good play caller at OC, maybe we’ll be a 9-win football team but the defense will remain an issue and continue to hold us back until Todd is gone. I am absolutely shocked that losing play-calling duties wasn’t a requirement to stay. The defense isnt even average. We’d be lucky to have average. Everyone on defense runs around looking lost & bad QBs put up record games on us, continuously, it’s actually amazing that we are more consistently historically bad than we are average. Truly amazing.

Evans was much more succinct. “3rd & 28!”
January 19th, 2026 at 1:05 pm
I’m still bummed we didn’t go after John Harbaugh hard enough. When I read that seven teams contacted him but only six had coaching vacancies, I secretly hoped that the Bucs were that seventh team.
January 19th, 2026 at 1:06 pm
Not hard to figure out. Get the right OC and a DC.. in other words he needs to be HC not try to handle it all it’s to hard on him.
January 19th, 2026 at 1:09 pm
In other words, Rachaad says, “Bowles Sucks.”
January 19th, 2026 at 1:10 pm
Old RWhite’s wanting a Canales reunion in Carolina. I would not be surprised one bit to see this happen.
January 19th, 2026 at 1:13 pm
It keeps smelling more and more like the Glazers did not give him a firm commitment to remain HC IN 2026. It’s more like you are still HC until we tell you otherwise, so proceed with you staff changes.
Would be curious to know if Bowels was in attendance at the McDaniels interview or was it just Glazers and Licht?
January 19th, 2026 at 1:15 pm
“I think if the bucs can get a good play caller at OC, maybe we’ll be a 9-win football team.”
I agree. And, it would just be more of the same old same old, and would almost guarantee ANOTHER year of Lickt and Bowles. It’s the Twilight Zone.

“3 & 28”

Rashad would be 3rd string in Carolina behind Dowdle and Hubbard. But, ya never know.
January 19th, 2026 at 1:29 pm
Fair assessment Gipper.
January 19th, 2026 at 1:39 pm
White went to college? Good player and apparently nice guy, but he needs to get a tutor to help him improve his grammar.
January 19th, 2026 at 1:39 pm
Bucs play too much soft zone coverage and they don’t have DLine or LB talent to pressure the QB – there, it’s said
January 19th, 2026 at 1:39 pm
He be talkin’ Lavonte language.
Skraight up now, fo reelz.
January 19th, 2026 at 1:41 pm
A late axe on Bowles or hiring proven coordinators on both sides is the only way to right this ship. You can’t keep Bowles and simply replace the OC, that won’t excite the fans or win more games. That just gets you more softness and boredom.
January 19th, 2026 at 1:42 pm
Uh, that was definitely long winded and he trying to be political in terms of not calling for Bowles’s job- but it’s pretty clear he thinks Bowles should have been fired, considering most of his staff was let go.
And if he was retained, it’s very clear White doesn’t think he has the ability to coordinate the defense and take on all the duties of being a head coach.
Gee, imagine that? Same thing that myself, Defense Rules, and a number of other fans have been saying for years.
We can see it. The players can see it. Why can’t the owners?
January 19th, 2026 at 1:43 pm
I wanted Bowles gone last year. I can’t control the decision ownership made in bringing human back for 2026. However, after the firing of Harbaugh n McDermott, if Bowles sneeze the wrong way next year, he’s fired immediately.
January 19th, 2026 at 1:49 pm
Rachaad this is just such a bad look. You’re a free agent man, thanks for the insight but you’re only hurting your future paycheck here. What if the market decides that your best opportunity may have been returning to the Bucs? What if Tampa was your best contract. I know this is unlikely, but free agent running backs don’t really get paid by other teams at this moment of NFL football. Not to mention they probably don’t want to hire some dude who clearly has no respect for the people that drafted him and gave him so many chances to look like a no. 1 big money back (he didn’t).
January 19th, 2026 at 1:50 pm
The only way we’ll know for sure what the players think of Lovie Bowels will be after he’s eventually fired. Then they’ll come out of the woodwork talking about what a sorry head coach he was and the wasted opportunities.
January 19th, 2026 at 1:54 pm
“Man, please stop letting other teams come in that home stadium, regardless if I’m not there or not, and take over that stadium like that, bro,” White said on the podcast. “That’s just horrible. So it’s like, when y’all talk on Twitter and all that, we just laugh, because we can’t even respect some of y’all because we don’t even feel like y’all are real fans because y’all just let the other team come in no matter who it is.
“Y’all be popping all that and y’all want these culture changes. Y’all want all that… but y’all not even in there to really see what’s to it, what’s to that. And to a lot of them fans, too — some of y’all, y’all don’t even watch the game. Y’all just be talking more on the stats.”
January 19th, 2026 at 1:56 pm
Don’t worry guys, we can always ask Lovie if we wants to come back
January 19th, 2026 at 2:00 pm
If we’re replacing position coaches, prob should have replaced head coach and started over. Didn’t have a DC separate from Todd and now on another OC. So if you’re replacing OC and Defensive staff, may as well get new HC who brings in OC and DC.
HOWEVER, with all the vacancies who says the best HC/OC/DC out there would have come here. Lots of bidding. 5yrs $100M for Harbaugh. Steep when Todd’s only making what $3M/yr?
January 19th, 2026 at 2:05 pm
Imagine if he was not dancing around with his words.
We have seen it with our own eyes!
It is inexcusable that Todd Bowels is still head coach!
It’s barely excusable that JL is still GM
The picture is getting uglier and uglier
January 19th, 2026 at 2:13 pm
No strong leadership in the locker room
Mental MRSA will be spreading at the first set back next year.
Botox face Bowels is incapable of rallying the troops and making adjustments on the fly.
Disappointment
Depression
Despair

@ OLDSCHOOL1976 – I thought Dowdle was going to be a free agent, and they only had him on a 1-year deal!? Oh, well… I thought maybe old RWhite was kind of angling for it given his statement about Canales’s Bucs Offense. Seemed like RWhite did have a great year that season, so thought it could be a good logical fit that he’d take in a heartbeat to have a chance to play against his old team TWICE a year!!!! He would be the perfect weapon for Bryce and them. Jacksonville would be a really good spot for him too, since they’re prob not going to be able to afford Ettienne. The problem for RWhite bring, this year’s free agency RB-class is deep and STACKED. Will be very interesting to see what that does to the overall market… Especially now, that the RB position has really seemed to have made a comeback.
January 19th, 2026 at 2:17 pm
Come on Joe
Really?????
January 19th, 2026 at 2:18 pm
White’s comment about Tood Bowles was not only stupid it hurt his chances of going to some teams. If you haven’t anything nice to say about the coach or team you don’t go mouthing off.
What an idiot

Us as fans need to “fan” it better
January 19th, 2026 at 2:23 pm
RW’s trying to be nice, but the message was Bowles needs to be the HC only or go. They need to move on from Bowles or force him to make the right changes. I don’t see it happening. Too many egos in the room that won’t accept they are the issue. Looks like next year is another lost year. Maybe they are waiting for Tomlin? Sean McD was fired, go get him. His players are pissed off he was fired. I don’t see any of the Bucs players being pissed off if Bowles is canned.
January 19th, 2026 at 2:25 pm
He says what I been sayin for the last 2 yrs. Let somebody else call the Defense and he be head coach. In other words, get a Defensive Coordinator. But
Bowles will not because he is hard headed ole school Bowles. And that will be his undoing in myu opinion.
January 19th, 2026 at 2:33 pm
White is NOT hurting his chances with any team!
He is not a Buccaneer
He was a SOLID teammate and did not rock the boat as a player for the team.
He was very diplomatic in his remarks.
That said… the whole NFL knows what a sheet show Todd Bowels and JL are running.
They are going to have to OVERPAY to attract any quality FA’s
😆😆😆😆
Remember swallowing that bait hook line and sinker
“We only bring in our type of Buc players “
I am not ragging on the players, it’s the coaches and GM who just starred at the decline and lack of adjustment like a freaking cow looking over the fence!
January 19th, 2026 at 2:35 pm
he probably should have kept a tighter lip..i saw the podcast…
he mostly danced around stuff, but what’s the point…
people are going to twist it all up to make you sound bad anyway in the end…
and it can’t bode well for a return to the bucs – talking out like that…
and worse, it can’t bode well with a team he might sign with – because now he’s sort of considered a big mouth turncoat – and if issues arise in his new landing spot, what might he say next, publicly…he’s created him self a bit of an issue with 32 teams now
reason for concern in the white camp after that…
and seemingly samer is his homie…but relished in working him to talk out of his face on the podcast about stuff that should have been more hush hush…so like really – is samer really his friend – or looking for podcast views…he knew he was putting his boy into the quicksand just by even going there with his quiz-ables…
but he’s guilty of nothing, because rachaad took the bait
January 19th, 2026 at 2:41 pm
Average dime a dozen RB
January 19th, 2026 at 2:44 pm
Baker and the offense averaged 18.2 points per game over the final 7 games of the season.
Only three teams in the NFL, the Seahawks, Houston and the Patriots, allowed less than 18.2 points per game – meaning those are the only teams that would have had a chance to win with Baker at QB over the 2nd half of the season.
Interestingly, the Bucs beat two of those three – and as for the Pats game, the Bucs defense gave Baker the ball three times in a row in the 4th quarter with a chance to take the lead, and he turned it into 0 points.
January 19th, 2026 at 2:50 pm
It’s remarkable all the dullards out there that complain because a player actually gives a real answer and doesn’t just give some boring line that means nothing.
And all White said was that if you’re going to fire half the staff, why wouldn’t the head coach go as well? Not that he called for it – he just points out it seems like an odd move – and I’d agree.
At the same time, has anyone looked around the NFL this year? Where are all these great head coaching candidates at? If changes were made at the top, it would have been 100% because Baker played so poorly down the stretch he got everyone fired. Why exactly do people think some new coach would be eager to take the job and be locked in with a QB who just tanked the season and has a history of getting everyone fired?
January 19th, 2026 at 2:50 pm
rod – that’s why grizz is gone…baker is being given one more year…like coach bowles…
if things go haywire in bucland in 2026, both bake and bowles will be on the same raft as huck finn
January 19th, 2026 at 2:51 pm
Bowles will be here for three more years. Get used to the same tired agenda.
Fake outrage by media types during regular season losing streaks.
Then circling the wagons around Bowles in the offseason.
Remember the Pom Pom waivers last summer who said we’d get 12+ wins?
That certainly did not age well.
January 19th, 2026 at 2:54 pm
The lions just hired the cardinals OC 🤔
January 19th, 2026 at 2:54 pm
@melvinjunior: not sure about Dowdles contract but Carolina most certainly would like him back. If not then I could definitely see RWhite going there. But man he’s making it tough for teams to want to sign him. Hope his agents can spin. Hope he gets what he’s looking for but I just don’t think he’s a #1 rb. No real speed. He should go to Texans, they got nothing at RB.
January 19th, 2026 at 2:56 pm
@RodMunch, get some new talking points… you’re tired narrative is boring. Face it, Baker is back next year and so is Todd.
January 19th, 2026 at 2:57 pm
if things go haywire next year…bake and bowles will no longer be on the ship, the vessel…firing the cannons and hula hooping with the cheerleaders…
they will be demoted to the raft with huckleberry finn…in a rudderless situationship…up sh!t’s creek without a paddle…
