“There’s Not Any Part Of The Field He Can’t Attack”
January 30th, 2026It’s pretty clear listening to new Bucs offensive coordinator Zac Robinson and hearing Baker Mayfield on Rondé Barber’s WFLA.com streaming show, both Robinson and Mayfield have a mutual admiration for each other.
Robinson made it clear Tuesday that Mayfield was a magnet that drew him to the Bucs. So Robinson was asked what it was about Mayfield that he likes so much.
“Baker was the No. 1 pick in the draft for a reason,” Robinson said. “In terms of the arm, there’s not a part of the field that he can’t attack.
“You start there and then you get to the instincts and the feel for the game. The movement part is huge. You have to be able to move at this day and age in the NFL.
“His ability to throw on the run – he’s probably the best in the league at throwing on the run. He’s great in the keeper game, great in the boot game.”
Joe has seen stats that show Mayfield is one of the best quarterbacks in the game when moving outside the pocket. So yeah, why not use his strength?
Robinson said that is what he plans to do.
“[I am] looking to evolve that part and making sure that we’re playing to Baker’s strengths and the rest of the guys’ strengths,” Robinson said. “That’s a huge part.”
Even though it seems Mayfield getting out of the pocket won some games early, it cost Mayfield and the Bucs dearly down the stretch. But for a few series here or there, ever since the win at New Orleans, Mayfield wasn’t close to the same player he was in the first six or seven games.
But it doesn’t appear Robinson wants to limit Mayfield.
“The third-down conversions, those are tough downs, and when you have a quarterback that can obviously extend those plays and pick up first downs with his legs, that’s huge,” Robinson said.
Joe hopes Robinson can find a happy medium. A damaged Mayfield is no good for anyone, least of which is Mayfield and his pending (?) new contract for the 2027 season.
As former Bucs Super Bowl champion coach Bucco Bruce Arians likes to say, “Put a quarterback in harm’s way, harm will find him.”

So yes, the more time goes on the more sense this OC hire looks like a good move. But if we still have Todd and his Putrid Pass Defense our only hope is to load this team up with Edge Rushers and LB’s that can cover and help our Putrid Pass Defense.

They are gonna need to spend a lot of money on that defense they are way more than a draft away from fixing that dl and linebackers possibly corner cuz zion looked bad and dean is a free agent.

How do you calm a lightning ROD. Turn off the switch, but Baker Mayfield can’t just turn it off. His DNA is wired differently. The difference between winning it all is controlling that switch. Last year ended in a 7 game losing streak. Mayfield was injured and didn’t play anywhere near his capability because he couldn’t controll that switch.
Will 2026 be any different. He needs a strong leader to help him turn the switch on or off. Is Robinson that leader. Hopefully.
I believe he lost confidence in GRIZZARD.Put everything on his shoulders and lost the battle by putting everything on his back. We all saw the results of that mentality. Robinson needs to guide him. It takes a collective effort by everyone to win championships. Unfortunately it didn’t happen because Mayfield didn’t control that switch. Robinson has his job cut out for him.
It’s not just about the X’s and 0’s. It takes a complete team effort and Mayfield’s reckless play and disregard for his body has doomed the team.
Tom Brady understood this and won more championships than anyone. LIVE TO PLAY ANOTHER DOWN

Joe … ‘A damaged Mayfield is no good for anyone’.
For sure Joe. And THAT’S why Bucs desperately need to sign a quality veteran backup QB who could manage the offense and win us a reasonable percentage of games IF Baker goes down. No more allowing him to play hurt & then we lose most of our games.

Finding a paying job drew him. He was not in demand. With Bowzo as HC and Boss Bucs are scraping the bottom of the NFL Barrel.

Meh…
We all know by now that Baker struggles with accuracy on the deep throws.
Without Mike Evans he will struggle even more…
This is one of the reasons he has been on 4 different teams.

Bucs one injury to Bakefield away from utter disaster.

Sounds good when we aren’t playing games.
Those passing charts Joe shared says otherwise.
Also, consistency, accuracy, y’know actual football intangibles that have 0 to do with Fire, moxie and yada yada yada

Allen Lofton. You said they ended the season on a 7 game losing streak. We beat Carolina to close the season out. Which at least gave some of us some hope. A playoff team that had the Rams beat until the final minute of the wild card round. A solid Rams team. In a stinking mess of a rain storm. And we overcame a Mayfield pick. That’s the last memory we have of our 2025 season. If we’d have quit fighting until the end would have been one thing. But we didn’t, so it’s another thing. And that something matters.
