The Hidden Angle With Brian Callahan
January 10th, 2026Joe cannot claim to watch Bengals games closely. So Joe doesn’t know if Brian Callahan, who interviewed with the Bucs for the open offensive coordinator position, was a major influence with Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati offense or if he just rode the coattails of Bengals coach/playcaller Zac Taylor.
But Joe is thinking if the Bucs do hire Callahan, it might be a package deal.
Notice that earlier this week when Bucs coach Todd Bowles fired Josh Grizzard and Thad Lewis, and Tom Moore retired, one of the offensive coaches retained was Bucs offensive line coach/run game coordinator Kevin Carberry.
Joe’s a big fan of Carberry and thinks he’s a damn good offensive line coach. He had his work cut out for him last year with all the injuries and juggling players and working with two “third string” guards.
As Joe pointed out yesterday, Callahan is the son of former Raiders coach Bill Callahan, who was Chucky’s “offensive coordinator” in Oakland and he took over for Chucky as head coach of the Raiders when Chucky was traded to the Bucs.
When the younger Callahan got the job in Tennessee, he brought his old man, Bill, with him. Bill Callahan was Tennessee’s offensive line coach.
Bill Callahan is considered maybe the best offensive line coach in the NFL. So Joe wonders if the Bucs hire Brian Callahan, if it’s not a package deal and he brings his dad with him?

No thanks!! Mike McDaniel please,…
January 10th, 2026 at 12:09 am
We need someone from the McVay tree, ala Liam Cohen, in my opinion.
January 10th, 2026 at 12:09 am
I think they want a young offense coordinator for their HC in waiting
Right now they are interviewing candidates that’s not in the playoffs
But they will be interviewing a lot more as they become available
January 10th, 2026 at 12:20 am
No. Cardbury is a solid coach. Imo if Mcdaniel gets offered HC positions elsewhere, just him as HC and move on from Bowles. They had the same record, but Mcdaniel was in a tougher division, with lesser talent and Jason is a much better GM. Mcdaniel just beat Bowles with Quinn Ewers….he can utilize all of our offensive weapons which is the strength of the team and provided he doesnt crap the bed, could offer stability for Mayfield for once. Its a no brainer if the Glazers are satisfied wirh mediocracy but Mcdaniel has higger upside
January 10th, 2026 at 12:31 am
Mc D. Will be head coach. I really feel if Mike doesn’t take the OC job for the lions.
He should take the Raiders job take that Qb they have a solid rb they have Bowers the TE they have and they have a lot of money to spend, Tom is no dummy. I’m keeping Max great leader.
January 10th, 2026 at 12:31 am
Well, they’re not moving on from Bowles, whether we like or not. Also, don’t like McDaniel as a HC. Sorry. And him beating us meant nothing. It didn’t take an explosive offense to score on our crummy defense this year. Every offense in the NFL was takin’ a piece of our @sses this year.
January 10th, 2026 at 12:37 am
I like him as head coach nothing to do with beating us. His qb is garbage Period.
January 10th, 2026 at 12:37 am
How about Todd Monken? I haven’t heard a lot of people bring him up. Of course, I do think McDaniel could improve our run game, which stunk this year, but afraid the passing might look the same under him.
January 10th, 2026 at 12:39 am
Tom Brady is key for the Raiders. Key
Money being spent drafting a the top of every round.
January 10th, 2026 at 12:40 am
Grant Udinski doesn’t sound like bad option either, especially since he’s worked under Coen, the guy we should’ve hired.
January 10th, 2026 at 12:43 am
My bad. I forgot for a second that Monken was with us before, and we know how the Bucs fans feel about bringing people back. Lol.
January 10th, 2026 at 12:51 am
Monken is over hyped. He struggled getting The king the rock @ critical times.
January 10th, 2026 at 12:51 am
Brady’s gone fools…he ain’t coming back…this fo…this staff are losers without Brady…they are losers. accept now or later…that’s up to you
January 10th, 2026 at 12:54 am
@ Buccin Who’s asking for Brady I’m talking about what the Raiders have and the should hire Mike D with Fernando coming in.
January 10th, 2026 at 1:14 am
Any game Bucs win will be in spite of Bowzo and the Buc Clown Show not because of it.
January 10th, 2026 at 1:18 am
Get thew Gong. Bucs are The Gong Show now. Dont use the Cannons bang a Gong.
January 10th, 2026 at 1:19 am
Mike McDaniel as OC for this year. Make him an associate HC if need be.
That way when Bowles complex scheme has his defense pooping the bed next season and Bucs putting up 30 points a game and still losing, you give McDaniel the full HC position and then he hires his own coaching staff and new DC.
That’s the way to do it!!!
McDaniel is a phenomenal playcaller…
January 10th, 2026 at 2:03 am
Bowles has proven his defense works when he has the horses. Bucs need help on all three levels of defense. The secondary isn’t as bad as it seems. The linebacker situation is the worst in the NFL Sirvocea is to slow to cover tight ends. Sadly David has lost two steps. There is no pass rush except Diaby. Speaking of Diaby, he has made some blistering statements the last few days. He has said publicly that he felt like he was out there alone and that too many players were not giving enough effort. He also said there was way to many walk through practices. That is a direct reflection on Bowles. Bowles is a good coordinator but I question his leadership needed for H.C.. Obviously the Bucs upper management feels Bowles can succeed with the proper support team. If they give him the players and staff I think they may but they are gonna have to get it right and Licht is gonna have to nail the draft. Would love to see Arvell Reese fall to around the 8th-9th spot and Licht move up and get him. There is two maybe three good pass rushers in the draft. If Licht stays put I could see Sonny Styles being the pick. Licht needs to use the first 3 rounds on LBs . Bucs are way to slow on defense. We are going to have Bowles at least one more season so we may as well accept it. Let’s hope they get it right.
As always Go Bucs!!!
January 10th, 2026 at 3:52 am
I’ve always thought his dad was an above average coach, and would be a benefit for the team and rest of the coaching staff. He has definitely been around the block and back that’s for sure. Been all over the place throughout his looong career. The thing being, there’s an awfully good chance that his son might just be the very best WE CAN get, as long as Lickt and Bowles (and Glazers) are running this team.
January 10th, 2026 at 3:55 am
@ Lakeland Says: “I think they want a young offense coordinator for their HC in waiting.”
Well, they can “want it” all they want, but that’s a freaking PIPE-DREAM. Fantasy.
January 10th, 2026 at 4:07 am
@ Daryl Green Says: “Tom Brady is key for the Raiders. Key
Money being spent drafting a the top of every round.”
Mendoza looked just like Tom tonight, standing back there tap-dancin. I know Tom was watching, and thinking, “Ohhhhh Yeahhhhh, I Can Really Do Something With THAT.” He has ALL the “Brady-Intangibles,” too!!!! 💯 It’s a RAP. They need to go ahead and trade Crosby, then LOAD-UP ON accumulating picks for the absolutely ‘ALL-TIME’ LOADED 2027 Draft-Class. Actually, the BUCS BETTER TOO, before next season’s deadline, when we’re in the cellar of the division. 💯
January 10th, 2026 at 4:16 am
McCollum BETTER be having a damn strong season up til the deadline, and then maybe we’ll at least be able to move him!!!! Move Vea, Winfield, Jr. And, hopefully Godwin is health and playing well, and we can move him too!!!! Exact same for Big-Mike. Kancey, too!!!! We’ll have some potential ‘movable’ players. I already KNEW it was ‘one of’ THE MOST LOADED in awhile, but I heard Todd McShay say that it could be “the most loaded class EVERRRR, since THEY STARTED TRACKING THE DRAFT BACK IN THE 1960’s!!!!” Now, THAT IS INSANE. 60+YEARS. Fricken “TODD MCSHAY.”
January 10th, 2026 at 4:22 am
So, you people actually WANT “McDaniel” as YOUR HC!? That just sounds INSANE TO ME. And, SO desperately, that YOU WOULD “promise him” the job a year or years in advance!? Just one question… WHY TF!?!?!?!:/
January 10th, 2026 at 6:47 am
You can’t argue with the success that Licht had finding Canneles and Cohen. Grizzard was the easy way out and it didn’t work. I’m ok sitting back and letting the process play out for now instead of hating every move.
January 10th, 2026 at 6:50 am
Geez Louise
January 10th, 2026 at 7:04 am
If Joe’s right, we’d be hiring two losers instead of one. Old man Callahan, and his loser son. Sure why not.
January 10th, 2026 at 7:40 am
Please
God
No.
No, no, no.
January 10th, 2026 at 7:53 am
might be worth it if he brings his old man to coach the OL, one of the best OL coaches in history
January 10th, 2026 at 8:48 am
Why did the Bucs keep only two backup OL who they were unwilling to play in games coming out of camp? It was a decision that the team never recovered from. The OL never came together. What part did Carberry play?
January 10th, 2026 at 8:53 am
McDaniels is possible. We didn’t think we’d get Brady either.
January 10th, 2026 at 9:07 am
McDaniel isnt coming here — why would he? The weather? There are much better, more stable opportunities out there. A probable one year and out with Bowles isn’t one of them.
January 10th, 2026 at 11:24 am
Lol on this guy worst offense in league with titans mike mcdanels lol,Todd bowles hang out in donut shop,,living vicariously through liam cohen this play off season ,shame on bucs these days
