Sackless Finish

January 3rd, 2026

Bucs edge rusher Haason Reddick.

So Panthers quarterback Bryce Young dropped back to pass 35 times, didn’t scramble for positive yardage all evening and the Bucs didn’t sack him once — and only hit Young one time.

It’s hard to win in the NFL without touching an opposing QB.

Congratulations, Bucs!

Tampa Bay (8-9) pulled pretty much it off today in their 16-14 win against the Panthers (8-9).

The sackless finish doesn’t surprise those who watch the Bucs defense. Tampa Bay finished this season with 37 sacks. The Bucs had at least 44 sacks in the prior six seasons that Todd Bowles called the defense.

It’s partly because the Bucs’ edge rush is so miserable, and Todd Bowles’ array of blitzes didn’t seem to disrupt nearly as much this season.

One QB hit agains the Panthers, man, that has Joe shaking thinking about what might happen to the Bucs if they qualify for the playoffs tomorrow.

Edge rusher YaYa Diaby led the Bucs this season with 7 sacks in 17 games. Vita Vea ranked second with 4.5

Carolina showed how much they STINK. And Dave Canales is still a terrible playcaller.

  2. Rod Munch Says:

I’ll gladly take 0 sacks if it comes with 14 points given up and three turnovers. Give me that every week.

  3. Told You Says:

    Fire Bowles!

  4. Miller5252 Says:

I know Ira always talks about Bowles getting mid 40’s sacks every year and always finds a way. I think this year they only have mid 20’s, but I could be wrong. Bowles seems like secondary is more important than sacks when pressure and sack have been horrible all year. Gotta have big changes there next year. No more DE covering receivers.

  5. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Scoreboard, Joe. Sacks don’t move that piece of equipment

  6. Lakeland Says:

The contract Jason Licht gave Hassan Reddick is totally ridiculous
It’s worst than drafting Roberto Aguayo with a 2nd round pick

$14 Million to a washed guy that quit on his previous team
And people are talking about firing Bowles
They’re talking about firing the wrong Guy

  7. SB~LV 🏈 Says:

Braswell is just getting started 😂

  8. HeartyDickerson Says:

    “Sackless Finish”

    That means 2 things!

  9. Boltsfan17 Says:

Just checking in, Bowles and Licht fired yet?

  10. Britton Says:

Licht has left the most important position outside of QB completely barren ever since Shaq was released. The defense regardless of who calls plays will be trash until you pressure the opposing QB.

  11. Gipper Says:

Munch was especially pleased with the 4th and 12 completion that set up the Panthers 4Q TD. You will never hear that fraud say anything negative about one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL.

  12. Cybersecurity_intern Says:

How can he sack anybody if he is covering wr ?

  13. Dbbuc711 Says:

It’s damn hard to get sacks when your edge rushers are 25 yards downfield covering receivers

  14. SOFIERCE Says:

When is black Monday again traditionally?

  15. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Not mad at JL for signing Reddick, it was worth a one year shot.

Didn’t work, now time to go big game hunting

  16. Popmike66 Says:

Looks like Bowles could stick around no matter what happens tomorrow. I can live with that if he gets rid of most of his defensive staff ESPECIALLY S teams,CB and several players. DL coach may also need upgrading

  17. Tom Says:

    FLUSH TOILET BOWLES

  18. SS Bucs Says:

Bowles keeps trying to “bake the same cake” with his blitzes and cover 2
That worked a few years ago, but he’d not “guru” enough to be that creative. Plus, despite the win, the defensive secondary got burned alot as usual. While I appreciate a win, it may be too little, too late. Every facet of the team needs help, and that is a reflection on the coaching staff. The coaching is pedestrian at best, which leads to a team that has experienced what our has. Go Saints!!

  19. firethecannons Says:

Panthers offensive line looked impenetrable–they are not–the problem is the Bucs edges and d-line cannot get off blocks. Anyway Bryce Young had all day to throw, secondary needs to tighten their coverage as well

Time to go Big GM hunting.

  21. rrsrq Says:

There are two University of Miami defensive ends and another that played for Ohio State that led the nation in sacks, trade up to get one, I prefer Bain

  22. Les Says:

NO ONE IN THE SOUTH DESERVES TO BE IN THE PLAYOFFS .THEY ALL SUCK. BOWLES NEEDS TO BE GONE ALONG WITH GIZZ .

  23. Jmarkbuc Says:

Joe said sackless .. hee hee

    He’s not wrong.

  24. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

    Fire Bowles
    PS Fire Rod Munch!

  25. unbelievable Says:

What on Earth makes you think Bowles will fire the STcoach? Or hire a better OC? Or get an actual DC?

Those things would require accountability for poor performance.

Bowles has never heard of such a concept.

  26. ScottNFL Says:

    Rod Munch,

If we can have a downpour and wet sloppy field each week our defense could masquerade as adequate.

  27. Phred Says:

“Sackless Finish” in every sense of the term.

  28. ScottNFL Says:

Btw, Half of Diaby’s sacks this year were coverage sacks or sacks where the QB begins to scramble and he stops him for a one yard loss / sack.

  29. Coconut Doughnut Says:

Panthers lost 2 ina row, go figure

  30. Chuckys Bucs Says:

Reddick played with a lot of effort today and has the last few games. Not showing up in sacks but adding value in other ways.

  31. Irishmist Says:

Lavonte finished the game tied with Brooks for tackles. How fitting is that?

  32. Bobby Says:

Bye Hassan Reddick, he stole 14 mil from the Bucs this season. He put in half butt effort all season. Goodbye Reddick!

  33. Mhystc Says:

Watch Reddick sign with a divisional opponent and get double digit sacks. Would be something that would happen to us. People only come here to collect checks.

  34. orlbucfan Says:

    SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSBSBS………………..

  35. Itzok Says:

If they don’t draft four edge rushers in the draft it will be time to start looking at Licht’s replacement

  36. David Says:

Yes, they need an edge and Kancey back in form but I’m more concerned about the offense at the moment.
They go down the field and score and look dominant on their opening drive most of the time and then just disappear the rest of the game.
Is the OC in capable of adjusting? Evans looks frustrated and I am almost positive. It’s because of the OC in the play calling.

Evans is going to walk after this season unless they change the coaches but then he might walk if they change the coaches because he doesn’t want a new offense again unless they bring someone really good that he likes.

So no matter what happens over the next 24 hours possibly a week or two… they need a new HC, DC, OC, special teams coach

Seriously, another blocked kick? How does the ST coach have a job still? I don’t get it. That is 5 to blocked kicks on the year. Is that an NFL record? Disgusting.

  37. MJ Says:

that was our dream defensive line together for the first time in months, they got a little pressure once in awhile but not when it counted, they stopped the run but no sacks is pretty sad, not going to win a sb like that

  38. wlliam Says:

all winning teams have good coaching/ we do not the whole staff stinks

  39. BigBucs Says:

The one thing the Bucs did really well with yesterday is dominate with their run defense. Now we know that doesn’t always lead to good things as teams proceed to abandon the run and pass all over them, but it’s a start back in the right direction. Can only hope Bowels and these coaches get replaced with better options, but we’ll see. The offense still looks broken and we know how special teams has been this year.

  40. #1bucsfan Says:

Cut reddick. One thing I know is Jason is trying to get an edge rusher. Spence JTS brashwell all drafted and all busted. Yaya is ok. FA reddick and Michael Johnson busted. So far Shaq FA pick up and JPP the only ones to be successful. It’s not his strong suit but doesn’t make him a bad GM or to get rid of him like these so called fans are bellyaching about. If they let Todd go so be it but either way the go Bucs need to go get vea and kancey some help and bad. 2 new edge rushes legit ones to pair with yaya n brash a couple new DT n NT some middle linebackers. Todd’s scheme only works when we get pressure. SB year and the year after are proof. Since to edge help and stout dline his defense has kept going the wrong way

  41. Tim burke Says:

Like I tried to say on the other topic page? Change ALL THE ASSISTANT COACHES!! IF BOWLES DOESN”T ACCEPT IT? LET HIM GO!!! PUT JASON ON THE CLOCK FOR BETTER DRAFTS!!
