Mike Evans And Chris Godwin Among Elite Receiving Duos In NFL History
January 20th, 2026If Mike Evans returns for the 2026 season, there is no doubt in Joe’s mind that Chris Godwin and Evans will go down as one of the greatest receiving duos in NFL history.
If Evans returns, the two need only 56 yards receiving to surpass Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne as having compiled the fourth-most receiving yards for a pair of receivers in history. And reaching third-most status would also be in easy reach so long as both Evans and Godwin can stay healthy.
Evans and Godwin have combined for 17,100 yards receiving. That’s 55 behind Harrison and Wayne (17,155). Currently at No. 3 is Mark Clayton and Mark Duper, the 1980s Dolphins stars who have 17,512 yards receiving combined.
At No. 2, Jerry Rice and John Taylor are probably out of reach, as they combined for 18,224 yards receiving.
Joe never would have guessed before reading this from the Bucs’ media relationship department.
Evans and Godwin have been together nine seasons. Clayton and Duper needed 10 seasons to accumulate their numbers, the longest a receiving duo has played together.
Aside from Evans (13,052 receiving yards), only Justin Jefferson (8,480) with the Vikings has more receiving than Godwin (7,626) when it comes to receivers playing for the team that drafted them.
If Evans comes back, remember that Godwin has two seasons remaining on his contract. And Joe fears that may end the golden age of offense for the Bucs franchise.

The tail end of greatness, always sort of stinks.

Thank you for the stats, Joe! Wow, nine seasons together! Time passes so quickly and we have been so lucky to all be part of their lives as Bucs fans. They are the best of the best!

Joe, why do you think the #2 spot is out of reach? You don’t think Evans and Godwin can get 1,224 yds combined? I think that’s pretty doable, particularly now that we have a 17 game (perhaps even 18 in 2026) season?

Nice stat and im happy for them but its kinda mute. Our team has shat the bed something fierce and we have mudbutt until proven otherwise. So good luck to both of those greats in securing the #3 next year. Godwin is injury prone in my eyes. Tough break for ME13 last year with the collarbone. Go BUCS!!!!

I just hope ME resigns with the Bucs. The Chiefs and the Bills badly need a WR like ME and ME just wants to win. I know he loves the Bucs, but as hard as he worked to get back to the team and as poorly as they finished the season, I hope it did not leave a bad taste in his mouth.

Senor Harry in Costa Rica – Agreed. I would hate to see Mike leave. Yes, he said he wanted to retire a Buc. You are right, he came back strong this season. If he was to go, I think it would be his home, Texas. Whatever he decides, most of us will still be rooting for him.

So Taylor and Rice have a combined 1100 more receiving yards than Evans and Godwin? If they both play next year and they don’t pass that, it would be a major upset. Evans himself has gone over 1100 yards probably 7-8 times in his career, Godwin probably twice. That’s 550 yards for each receiver. They could be the numbers 3 and 4 receivers and combine for more than 1100 yards. Remath your math. If Evans re-signs, and they both remain moderately healthy, they break that mark.

It has been great to see those two for the past number of years … I just hope neither one of them hang on well past their primes …

Remember last year at this time we all thought Chris would be ready for opening day? Pretty much missed the whole year. Didn’t look good when he came back and went back to the bench to heal for another 6 weeks. BUT- he’s back. And he’s looking good, really good now. And Mike is the one guy, besides maybe Wirfs, that you know Baker needs to feel comfortable enough to play with the confidence to make this offense pop. Injuries really can change a season, especially when you’re talking about that level of play. May be our turn to be healthy this season. If we are I don’t care how bad the coaching may or may not be. It won’t matter.

It’s not kinda mute. It’s kinda moot. A moot point is something that doesn’t make any difference. Evans and Godwin can have like 1800 yards in a season if they both happen to play a whole season and get hot. Maybe even 2K but that’s unlikely.

Two seasons or 1 great season from both and they could surpassed Rice and Taylor. Make it happen Chris and Mike. Lets go 💪

Nailed it Joe!
Been thinking along those lines for some time now. Rememer when we were without any WR weapons? As in two real threats? Pre Evans? Arrelious Benn comes to mind as well as Tiquan Underwood. Both started for us at some point. Made life difficult. We may have gotten a bit spoiled me thinks.
Go Bucs!
