Major Shakeup To Defensive Staff

January 8th, 2026

Defensive staff purge.

The last one out, please flip the light switch off.

Per Aileen Hnatiuk of WFLA-TV Channel 8, the Bucs’ defensive staff is going to look much different in the coming weeks.

Here are the coaches moving on from the defensive side of the ball (so far):

* Safeties coach Nick Rapone is retiring.
* Cornerbacks coach Kevin Ross is gone.
* Defensive line coach Charlie Strong is gone.

It almost smells like Team Glazer told Bowles that he and offensive line coach Kevin Carberry and running backs coach Skip Peete can stay, pending who the new offensive coordinator wants.

No word yet on outside linebackers coach Larry Foote, inside linebackers coach Mike Caldwell, and others.

Though no announcement has been made, Joe hopes Team Glazer is forcing Bowles to accept a new defensive coordinator.

He should fire himself.. he HAND picked that staff. They should all go together..

  2. buccintimeforchanges Says:

    Rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic

  3. Bill in Seminole Says:

The weakness this past year was on the defensive side; our secondary could not stop even marginal QB’s from making down the field throws. Let’s draft (a few?) cornerbacks in this year’s draft.

  4. Hodad Says:

Bowles throwing all his assistants under the bus. In all fairness to him tho, Bowles was the only one who would employ any of them in the first place. Good luck getting a new staff after running over your last one.

  5. ocala Says:

This is all idiotic. These are the coaches Bowles picked. Fire Bowles!

  6. HC Grover Says:

Fire the Glazers. Out with the whole staff. This bunch of losers is going to be the worst team in NFC South. Bottom feeding.

  7. Nicholas Carlson Says:

I like Bowles fine as a walk around coach. Players like him. I think his calm demeanor can be a plus. He needs to toss his scheme. Go 4-3 and let DEs do de things. Get Raheem!

  8. Eric Says:

They are saying you can come back but all your boys are gone and you’re giving g up play calling lol

  9. EEK Says:

last hatchet will land on Bowles job
this is all a favorable direction
not sure how Bowles makes it through all of these changes — he’s not an executive coach, he’s a defensive coach
if management wants a different kind of leadership role for him that he’s never had it’ll be better to hire someone (like Harbaugh) who has top experience at that role — culture builder and staff builder

  10. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

Thomas M , special teams coach ( best bud of TB) ? When will he be fired?
They can’t be ok with how that unit preformed

  11. JBBUCS_06 Says:

what the actually hell?!?! Why keep Todd if all of his coaches are gone. It’s going to be a new hodgepodge of a staff with Todd at the helm? Just hire a new HC and let them hire their own staff.

  12. LVMYBUCS Says:

This is just stupid they firing everyone accept the one person who should have been first out the door, the ring leader. Bunch of clowns

  13. Fanofdabucs Says:

You really think they are going to hire a DC AND keep Bowles?? That would make absolutely no sense.

Why not just fire Bowles and clean house? Absurd

  14. SteveK Says:

Mike McDaniel and Jim Schwartz, please! Also a top level special teams coach! LFG

  15. Warrenfb12 Says:

Ya we need a new DC

  16. HC Grover Says:

This mess is just Stupid! Throw them all in the Bay.

  17. Mike Says:

Larry Foote needs to go as well, Warren Sapp very blunty said he has no idea what he’s doing teaching edge rushers cause he never even played the position. George Edwards is also terrible.

  18. Fanofdabucs Says:

    Old school,

He has already been fired. Try to keep up

  19. HeartyDickerson Says:

George Edwards, Foote, and Caldwell better be next. They’ve all grossly underachieved.

  20. LFGBucs Says:

You’re getting closer Glazers! Now force Licht to hire a DC.

  21. DJR589 Says:

    What “buccintimeforchanges” said!!!

  22. heyjude Says:

Don’t the head coach and the GM hire in the new coaches. Do Glazers and players give input?

  23. OLDSCHOOL1976 Says:

Thomas M is gone along with his unspecial team coaching. Sorry, didn’t know.

  24. Colonel Angus Says:

Says a lot about Bowles. You figure he’d go down with his men if he loved them as much as he claims.

  25. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

People, there is no pint in complaining that Bowles is still here. He’s staying.

And, btw…he didn’t pick the staff. Bruce Arians did.

  26. AlstottNumber1 Says:

Instead of wasting time deleting the child objects, just delete the parent object and all the child objects get deleted with it.

    Delete Bowles.

  27. Mike Says:

Joe do you think the current DC will be stripped of his DC position and be forced to hire someone from the outside and bring in a new scheme and be hands off

  28. Muscle Hampster Says:

I wish I could suck at my job and scape goat all my employees.

  29. Oxycondomns Says:

who will hire the new assistants?

  30. Mike Johnson Says:

Bowles needs a strong DC. Raheem might be Ok right?

  31. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

BOWLES DID NOT HIRE THESE GUYS. HE INHERITED THEM.

  32. Mhystc Says:

I’m good on Raheem, give me Jeff Ulbrich instead.

  33. SlyPirate Says:

    *****DEATH BY LAUGHTER*****

We totally know what was said in Bowles’ intervew:
    1. You’re only here because you have a new 3 year deal
    2. You’re effectively done coaching.
    3. You’ll fire everyone and we’re auditioning your eventual replacement

The guy now fighting for his job is Licht. They told him, you let the right coach go and stuck us with the wrong coach. He better find some good coordinators or Licht is DONE!!!

  34. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

I’d take Raheem as DC, but he’s got to bring Nate Ollie

  35. BucsFan81 Says:

They really think by replacing all of Bowles hand picked coaches that Bowles is going to change and be someone else he is not. This is going to end so bad for the Glazers they could have avoided all this mess and just fired Bowles and all of his staff and started fresh.

  36. gotbbucs Says:

So the clown is kicking everybody else out of the clown car so he can have more room?
What’s the point? The architect that built this staff of apparently “bad” coaches is still there to pick the next group. It makes no sense to keep him.
Just fire the defensive coordinator too while youre at it…

  37. 1sparkybuc Says:

Bowles is going to stay on as the DC. Just a hunch, but I can’t see any situation where he relinquishes control of the defense to someone else. Supposedly he’s a
“Guru”. If he isn’t really that, what is he? He’s questionable as a HC.

  38. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    SlyPirate Says
“The guy now fighting for his job is Licht. They told him, you let the right coach go and stuck us with the wrong coach.”

    Actually not true.

We know it isn’t true because the Glazers refused to hire Harbaugh because he wanted his own GM. The Glazers are dedicated to Licht.

  39. gotbbucs Says:

    Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

BOWLES DID NOT HIRE THESE GUYS. HE INHERITED THEM.

What the hell are you talking about?

  40. Mhystc Says:

Bring in Brain Flores as a DC.

  41. Guy In the Stands Says:

Its a joke, the team failed because the head failed.

We need to switch back to a damn 4-3 and stop dropping edge rushers into coverage. Might be surprised by how many sacks a guy could get IF he rushes the QB on passing downs. INSTEAD OF DROPPING IN COVERAGE.

  42. Davenport Says:

Why keep Bowles and replace the bulk of the coaching staff? Makes no sense at all.

And, Bowles had no problem having all his guys fired so he could save himself? Class act

  43. heyjude Says:

Buccaneer Bonzai – Yes, that’s right. We inherited them. I thought that Todd also had some say though last season.

  44. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    gotbbucs Says
“What the hell are you talking about?”

Bowles did not assemble his own staff when he took over as HC. The foaching staff was in place from Bruce Arians.

While he had some input, he did not put them in place.

  45. buccintimeforchanges Says:

    the Glazers are trash

  46. pelbuc Says:

The Glazers have all this ass backwards. They needed to fire the HC and the rest of these firing would have been moot. Instead, they put the franchise in a terrible position of having a lame duck coach everyone know will not survive the 2026 season. Why would any respectable coach (and free agent) knowing this want to come here for a year? All these supposedly smart people and all these dumb decisions.

  47. FormerBucFan Says:

Same narrative was peddled by this site last year.

  48. Buckit Says:

Toss the linebacker coach too, they have done nothing but fail. His defensive staff cronies have had several years with Todd, and could not put together a respectable defense. How could Todd possibly make it work with new coaches? I believe the answer is he cannot, and the only reasonable path forward is to bring in a new D Coordinator, someone that has a pedigree and can succeed Bowles. Add Asst. HC to his title.

  49. Buckit Says:

    “Toss the linebacker coaches too”

  50. gotbbucs Says:

    @Buccaneer Bonzai

Are you really trying to tell me that once Bowles became the head coach he didnt have the authority to pick his coaching staff???

Get real, dude. That is by far the most lame excuse I have seen yet on this site since it started. You’ve been around here long enough to know that is a garbage take.

  51. Bob Says:

Halfway through the season, other teams figured out Todd’s schemes and adjusted their offense strategy.
We need a young Defensive Coordinator with new ideas, not a Head Coach trying to tweak the same old playbook.

  52. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Larry Foote 7 years
    Kevin Ross 7 years
    Tom Moore 7 years (retiring)
    Thad Lewis 3 years
Josh Grizzard 2 years (was promoted to OC)
    Thomas McGaughey 2 years
    Charlie Strong 1 year

So he did hire two of them…Arians did the others.

  53. Big Red Says:

    lol @ all the firing…

watch the tape, our disaster of a season is mostly on the players and a lack of talent in key positions. missing tackles. etc.

you can fire all the coaches in the world, and we weren’t going to have a good defense with this unit. these guys can’t play man-to-man coverage to save their lives.

We drafted undersized college 4-3 defensive ends to come play OLB in a 3-4 scheme. We drafted undersized LB’s to play S. We drafted an OT to play C. We had an All-Pro RT and moved him to the left side (miraculously worked out).

GM plays Madden. For better, and often for worse.

Now, we fire the OC after one season, because what Baker needs is his 4th OC in his 4th season with the Bucs lol…

I hope whatever decisions we have made and make in the future, work out for the best. I just think it’s a lot of pointing the finger because we got off to a hot start this year against subpar competition and then humbled in the back half of the season.

if you think Liam Coen would have had a significantly better year as the HC with this same exact team, you’re high af.

  54. Fanofdabucs Says:

The only “major” changes would be firing Bowles. The rest is lipstick on the fat pig AKA Bowles

  55. Stetematt Says:

If they made him fire all his assistants, chances are we are getting a DC.

  56. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    gotbbucs, see above.

They kept most of Arian’s staff for a smooth transition. Don’t blame the messenger.

  57. Colonel Angus Says:

Big Red, we definitely got some talent issues but our defensive players were more worried about getting to their spots rather than reading and reacting to the play. Thats on coaching in my book.

  58. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    This is getting interesting.

I’m right there with the fans who wanted Bowles fired. I wanted it too.
    But its not happening apparently.

If they were going with the status quo, it would be much worse. These fhanges at least mean a different product…even if Bowles is HC.

I suspect the new OC will at least have a fair shot at being Bowles heirl

  59. Bucs3 Says:

Please tell me another NFL team who has fired the majority of a coaching staff TWICE but Retained the HEAD COACH both times

    Unheard of

  60. jimmy Says:

for them to fire so many and not bowles is a head scratcher.

    all fired except moore

    Josh Grizzard
    Thad Lewis
    Thomas McGaughey
    Kevin Ross
    Charlie Strong
    RETIRED – Thomas Moore
    Nick Rapone

  61. Deeboooo Says:

How does Foote still have a job?! Should have been canned last year…

  62. Mveal2006 Says:

Foote staying after reddick cant be possible

  63. jimmy Says:

rapone retired as well according to bucs website

  64. jimmy Says:

retired as well was rapone according to bucs website

  65. Perimeter Blocker Says:

This feels like we are on the brink of another decade of darkness.

  66. HelloKittyBuc Says:

Buccaneers’ fans are doomed to suffer with toilet bowles

  67. Aqualung Says:

Belowszo needs to fire himself. Retire. Leave. Nobody wants you Todd.

  68. Optimistic Says:

The ball boy, equipment manager and the weathermen need to go next,

  69. Gipper Says:

Really not sure what Glazer’s are accomplishing? These guys were all hand picked by TB. Glazer’s are just postponing the inevitable until TB walks the plank next year. His defense and special teams have looked confused and chaotic for years. The buck should have stopped with Todd.

  70. James Patrick Reilly Says:

Last year bowles was asked what he wanted and he famously said ball Hawks. At THE END OF THE YEAR WE SEE NOTHING HAPPENED. WE SEE THAT HE MISSED THE WHOLE PROBLEM. HE NEEDEDBPASS RUSHERS. I DO NOT THINK HE ACTUALLYBIS WILLING TO SEE THE PROBLEMS WITH SCHEME AND PLAYERS. NOW HE IS GOING TO HIRE GUYS TO DO EXACTLY WHAT THEY DID WRONG THIS YEAR ON DEFENSE. CRAZY

  71. Buc king Says:

How does a coach stay bit fore his qhole staff??
Fire bowlles hire Bill and gruden

  72. jonny Says:

This is just a guess… I think Baker gave the nod of approval for Bowles to stay. Baker has one more year guaranteed and he is fine letting it ride with Bowles. If no playoffs this next year than both will probably be gone. I hope we can sign evans to a 1-2 year deal. We need to draft some good defenders and we will have a chance at winning the division. I do want a new head coach but hopefully we hit a home run at OC and i will feel a little better

  73. Bradinator Says:

Rapone and Ross needed to go.

  74. Darin Says:

Why it take him years to fire them? Why did he wait until he wa forced? Because hes not about excellence thats why. Bye bye

  75. Bojim Says:

    OLB? What’s that?

  76. Sal Volatile Says:

Bowles being relegated to figure head status was the only real option for the owners. The next two hires, OC and DC will likely be viewed as potential replacements. If those hires are good ones and Baker stays there is hope for those that remain fans. I will not be one of those fans. I will observe from a distance here on JBF out of curiosity but the NFL can kiss my behind goodbye.

  77. Deuceswild78 Says:

So basically we fired everyone but no bowles…. and now we have to hire a staff who knows he is a dead man walking…. makes sense

  78. Bucamania Says:

Everyone is to blame except Bowles. Makes sense.

  79. adam from ny Says:

firing the whole staff, but retaining coach, like he is gold, is a really obtuse move that only creates a myriad of problemos moving forward…

people are not idiots and do see the writing on the wall…

dudes do want to have a vibe of job security, and most filling these positions will not…

unless they think coach can be gone next year, and they can slide right into his role HC…

hopefully they know more than me…i’m just a lowly fan

  80. Pewter Power Says:

Sean Murphy-Bunting, Christian Izien, Tykee Smith, Jacob Parrish?

Why does the slot position always ball out but the rest of the defense suck. There’s no lack of talent, the scheme and the coach are trash and that is the problem i bet as soon as both change these same players would ball out.

  81. Eric Says:

I was ok with keeping Bowles but this is rediculous.

  82. Power Of Pewter Says:

I’m skeptical Bowles can hire adequate replacements. 1) Would a promising young coach choose to work for a mediocre HC or a good one? 2) By any measure, Bowles is now on a hot seat, what Asst coach would pick a one-year job for a lame duck? 3) There’s not an over-abundance of talent on the defensive side, and Licht seems unable to draft impact defensive players. There’s no-one who gives opposing OCs nightmares. Can’t cook a good meal without good ingredients. There’s a solid foundation on the offensive side, might be an attractive position for a promising OC to build his resume. Doesn’t exist on the defense… Bowles will be picking leftovers from the bottom of the barrel.

  83. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Even though he should’ve been flushed first at least his homeboy network has been.

  84. Just Saying Says:

Harbough said he believed in his coaches and you can fire me. Bowels says it isn’t me and fires all his staff. What a loser. Based on Glazer request to interview Harbough I still don’t think Todd is safe. They just let him be a weasel and fire all his boys.

  85. Ash Says:

He is not hiring a DC he will continue calling plays lmao what a joke

  86. infomeplease Says:

I suspect the Bucs are looking for a HC that will work with JL! They are having TB fire his coaches so the new HC doesn’t have to. They will fire TB when they find the right HC!! Just speculation but there is no way in hell they are keeping him!! They were watched the games too!!!!!! And if they think a new staff is going to fix Todd Bowles scheme on D, they are mistaken. Of course they may be trying to get TB to quit by making him fire his staff or they just want to save some money on his current new contract and not double pay for a new HC. Either way if TB stays, next season is a total disaster!! That would be bad for Buc fans and ticket sales!!!!!!! But good for ticket prices because they will sell below face value several days before game day!!!!!!!!

  87. JohnQCitizen Says:

    Go Bears.

  88. DrunkInYbor Says:

Yup. The goal this coming season is to secure a top 5 pick. The command is to lose, lose, lose and lose some more. Its a handshake agreement. Another season of fat content mumbling slow Blows. Very disappointed in this organization.

  89. Alstott40 Says:

So it was everyone else’s fault except Bowles, the man who chose these people for these postions. Got it. Stealing from a post on a another site, next season is on Licht, not Bowles, since Licht chose to keep Bowles. So all frustration should be taken out on him. And if Bowles fails next year Licht gotta go too.

  90. FL2NC - Bucs Fan Says:

I’m just curious if he’s going to find trouble finding assistants to join what could be a sinking ship

  91. budlikedthebucarros Says:

you can actually fire yourself even with a contract retire work out compensation

  92. Defense Rules Says:

Bonzai … ‘Bowles did not assemble his own staff when he took over as HC. The foaching staff was in place from Bruce Arians.’

True Bonzai, but that was 2022. I’m quite sure that Bowles had input on his def staff back in 2019 when he came here with Arians. Look at the background of those long-term coaches …

Kevin Ross was hired by the Arizona Cardinals as their cornerbacks coach in 2013 when Arians & Bowles started coaching there, and stayed there until 2017. He started here in 2019 when Arians & Bowles started coaching the Bucs.

Nick Rapone coached with Bruce Arians at Temple University, and made the jump to the NFL in 2013 when Arians & Bowles started coaching there. Stayed at Arizona thru 2017 when Arians retired, then rejoined him & Bowles at Tampa Bay in 2019 when they started coaching here. Rapone BTW COACHED Bowles at Temple when he played there. Just for info, Rapone will be 70 this April, so he’s coached for a long time.

Larry Foote finished his playing career in 2014 with the Cardinals playing for Bowles, then joined the Cards’ coaching staff in 2015 with Arians. Moved here in 2019 when Arians & Bowles started coaching here, first as the OLB coach (2019-2021) then as ILB coach/Pass Game Coordinator, then back to OLB coach.

Mike Caldwell coached with the Cardinals in 2013-2014 when Arians & Bowles were there, then moved to the NY Jets with Bowles in 2015-2018, then came here in 2019-2021 as our ILB coach and returned here in 2025 in the same role.

Point being Bonzai … all those coaches have ties with BOTH Arians AND Bowles. They’re not youngsters. My gut feeling is that they do great working with quality veterans (like LVD, Suh, JPP, Shaq, etc) but they may not be as good at relating to the yougsters as some younger coaches with more recent NFL playing experience. A younger staff was surely needed.

  93. Dlavid Says:

Bozo won’t fire the D coordinator …. Will he ?🤷‍♂️

  94. buccintimeforchanges Says:

    Harbaugh+GM>>>>>>licht + todd

  95. Tony Says:

    @InfoMePlease

THEN BRING BACK ARIANS TO COACH. WHO CARES IF HE’S 100 YEARS OLD. He knows Licht well enough & he’d probably still do better.

  96. adam from ny Says:

i get that they wanted to keep big dog licht…

    but…

when you deep dive and analyze the grand body of his work, numbers wise, you say wtf…like wtf are we keeping him for…

    it can go either way…

he has drafted a lot of nice players and a few gems…

then again there are the har-grievances types…

the thing about licht is he has grown into a top flight gm over the years…his early work left a lot to be desired…but he has grown immensely…

i’d have trouble dumping licht for a harbaugh guy too…

i did envision the harbaugh X licht power office…

    but johnny harr said nahhh

  97. Usedtocould Says:

    Oh, sweet.

  98. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

Perhaps clearing the offices do a new DC can bring in his assistant coaches? As Joe said…Todd likely no longer has the leverage he once had when it comes to some of these decisions.

  99. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Adam?

Grown immensely? You mean like his waistline? Like Todd’s?

Lichts imitating a GM is as tiresome BA’s drunk uncle routine.

As far as the defense, Bowles is gonna hire a bunch of new dudes to be same as the old dudes? Todd’s defense blows, new guys teaching a blowy defense is gonna yield the same results.

On the bright side at least we’ll get a whole ‘nother season of pressers where Bowles talks out of both sides of his mouth.. while saying absolutely nothing.

  100. Deeboooo Says:

Continually checking in to see if Foote has been fired. This guy has done nothing for our LB core. He should have been gone last year I don’t care if it’s Bowles’s protege

  101. Pittbucfan Says:

Scapegoat one and all. I guess the buck doesn’t stop at Bowel’s desk. Talk about being thrown under the bus. Maybe ol’ Todd isn’t such a nice guy afterall.

  102. Tony1775 Says:

    3rd & 28…..

  103. Couch Fan Says:

Another laughable move. Super Todd doing what he does best. Blaming everybody else. “we’ve done everything we can do as coaches.” then he is willing to fire everybody but himself. LMAO. Cant wait for another 8-9 or worse season.

  104. Chris Adams Says:

To attract a good DC you need to show he can hire his own staff. This makes the job more desirable.

  105. Wouldn’t pay a single Buc to see this squad Says:

Still have one big, fat, sloppy, uninspiring problem that we didn’t take care of.

  106. Boltsfan17 Says:

Keeping Licht and Bowles around is tantamount to football malpractice. Fire everyone else but the two who are most responsible. Done.

  107. Newbie Says:

You know, this is all complete BS to try and appease a livid fan base. And we have every right to be. Do you honestly believe assistant coaches like Kevin Ross and Charlie Strong forgot how to coach? These coaches and others are simply scapegoats. This is about scheme (Todd Bowles) and roster (Jason Licht). And something went terribly wrong in that locker room. Just remember, the same 2 guys are driving the bus… I mean the Titanic. Once again no accountability from the guy who constructed this roster and the head coach. Let’s blame everyone else. I’m disgusted by the team I have loyalty followed now for 50 years.

  108. Tom Petty Says:

It’s like the cyber version of Frankenstein up in here 🤣

A couple of thoughtful commenters and 100s more grabbing up their pitchforks and screaming for Todd’s head. I wonder if some of you have ever had an original thought in your entire lives – SMH 🙄

I actually think cleaning house is the best move…. We need new blood in our position group coaches. I’m surprised but not unhappy Grizz was canned. Would be prudent to get a a new D. C. and let Todd strictly handle HC responsibility but not sure that’s going to happen.

  109. Letsbuccingo Says:

Four OC s in four years that’s not the problem. I thought Licht was a pretty smart guy I guess not or the Glazers are telling him well Todd works cheap.

  110. Mord Says:

    This is truly bizarre.

Has anything like this ever worked? Is there any precedent for throwing all (most) of the assistants on the sword and then the team and its remaining head coach becoming successful?

I don’t get, nor have I heard an ownership rationale for why they want to keep Bowles but not his staff

  111. Alanbucsfan Says:

Go get Al Harris, Defensive coach with Bears, and make him Def Coordinator/Asst Head Coach
Bucs’ D will become a turnover machine

  112. Cleanhouse Says:

Why keep our Linebacker coaches? The LB core was atrocious- nothing to fear

  113. Delson Says:

Lol how u gonna convince 2 the Glazers that firing these guys will improve todd Bowles coaching when it was his scheme he wanted. I’m hoping we will have head coaching material within these hires.

  114. Bucmeup Says:

When is this clown Licht gonna get in front of a microphone. Seems cowardly

  115. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Seeing this all get spun in real time is pretty fascinating. The ways the human mind copes with things is boundless, lol keep it up fellas 😅🤣

  116. McBucky Says:

Who cares. The Glazer family has decided to keep the root problem in place. Here’s looking forward to another mediocre season in 2026 as delivered by the one and only man who believes it’s everyone else’s fault but his… Todd Bowles.

  117. Chefjeffrey Says:

Playing piano with the rearranged deck chairs on the titanic

  118. buccintimeforchanges Says:

    The Glazers are CHEAP AF

They just lost $0 million firing the Man U staff. They are cheap POSs

Lucked into the Brady Bowl. Crappiest owners in the league.

Hated on both sides of the Atlantic

  119. LakelandSteve Says:

Bowles will be the D coordinator next year. Had the Glazers told him he needs to hire a defensive coordinator then we may have see Bowles retire as well. Bowles would not give up the D coordinator job. He believes he is a good D coordinator which is a fallacy as we all know. So we will see a bunch of coaches come and go but the real problem behind this whole team is the head coach. It’s a shame we all have to sit another year and watch this Shiite show.

The weakness this past year was on the defensive side; our secondary could not stop even marginal QB’s from making down the field throws. Let’s draft (a few?) cornerbacks in this year’s draft.
    ————
All Pro corners can’t stop a QB with all day to throw. Games are won or lost in the trenches. That has been our biggest deficit since ‘21.

  121. ChiBuc Says:

It’s like our current administration. Everyone who works for these fools is fired. No accountability. No agency. No self awareness. Jack@sses playing pin the tail on the donkey

Wont matter until the head of the snake is chopped….

It cost them $40 mill to dump the MAN U staff

El Cheapo…and1 they let it leak they “tried” to get Harbaugh but oh no…he wanted his own GM that was a career loser like Licht

    93-104

Harbaugh has 180 wins – double our POS loser GM

    Mord Says:
“Has anything like this ever worked? Is there any precedent for throwing all (most) of the assistants on the sword and then the team and its remaining head coach becoming successful?”

I agree it is crazy…and I don’t know if it has ever been tried before.

If it hasn’t, it will be interesting to see if it works.

I suspect there is more craziness to come. They do things face to face, and more might get the axe.

  126. Justin Says:

No. It never works. Not in either the college or pro game. You saw it with the Giants last year. They fired everyone but Daboll, then fired him mid-season the next year. Stefanski in Cleveland has done a full purge twice I believe, and he got served his papers this year. So yes its been tried, and no, it never works.

  127. Justin Says:

So if we are rebuilding the coaching staff from the ground up, what is our foundation that we’re building it on? Can anyone tell me what TB has demonstrated as a strength in regards to being the head coach? In game management? Might be the worst in the league. Good special teams? They are the worst in the league. Strong defensive scheme? 4th and 14 says “Hi”. Unique and exciting offense? Well it is unique. Don’t see many 3 yards and a cloud of dust offensive gameplans in pro football anymore.

  128. LUVMYBUCS Says:

I can point to over 20 cases from the past 15 years where a coaching staff was completely overhauled—through firings or departures—and the team went on to succeed. Here’s just one recent example.

    *1. San Francisco 49ers — Kyle Shanahan (2019)

    The Overhaul
    – After going 4-12 in 2018, Shanahan made sweeping staff changes
    – Moved on from DB coach Jeff Hafley and DL coach Jeff Zgonina
    – Hired Joe Woods (DB/pass game), Kris Kocurek (DL), Shane Day (QB), Wes Welker (WR)
    – Restructured the health and performance staff

    The Results
    – 2019 record: 13-3, Super Bowl appearance
    – Improved from 4-12 to 13-3 (9-game jump)
    – NFL No. 1 rushing attack and top-5 defense
    – Lost Super Bowl LIV but established dominance

  129. Rod Munch Says:

Who was responsible for the team playing so much zone, and playing it so bad?

  130. Will Says:

Yes Joe I agree, the only way this will work if we have a great defensive mind calling the plays.

  131. Brian Says:

The DC should be fired next…

  132. Eric Says:

The Glazer Boys forced Dungy to hire new offensive coordinators. Remfmber Mike Shula. Then Dungy didn’t advance in the playoffs and was fired.

Changing coordinators doesn’t seem to work, although obviously Monte was the anchor to the great defensive teams.

  133. Jmarkbuc Says:

BA running his usual cool cat Daddio routine is why Bowles and Licht are still here.

That ish might be fun to watch on the Pat Jackass show but it ain’t good business.

  134. Hammis Says:

So, it we bring in new assistants to run the same ineffective defense, does it matter?

Your point is valid, but it was Clyde Christensen.
