Ex-Buc Puts Jason Licht On Notice
January 24th, 2026Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht has some detractors in Bucs fandom.
They showed up in the recent Licht confidence poll.
Joe, however, is with the majority and is firmly in the pro-Licht camp.
Not firmly in Licht’s corner is ESPN analyst and former Bucs defensive tackle Booger McFarland. He basically said Licht is on the same hot seat on which Todd Bowles resides.
“I think the entire team has a lot to prove. Not just Todd, Jason, like that’s a building that has a lot to prove,” Booger told WDAE radio this week. “I think the Glazers gave them a vote of confidence by bringing Todd and Jason back. I think now, based on that vote of confidence, it should be a pretty pissed off building. That building has a lot to prove from general manager all the way down.”
Booger went on to say Licht won’t get to serve the needs of a new head coach.
After saying he does not think Bowles is on a hot seat next year, Booger clarified to say he thinks Bowles needs to win to survive but it’s not on point to single out only Bowles’ job security.
“I think when you look, if the NFL has not taught us one thing, it’s taught us over and over that it is a results business,” Booger said. “And I think that the Buccaneers can’t come out and go 8-9 next year. And that goes for Todd and Jason. Not just Todd Bowles because this is Jason’s team. Jason put this team together. They signed extensions that correlated with each other.
“I think both Todd and Jason are under pressure right now. … I don’t think Jason is going to get to hire another coach.”
Patience of the Glazer family makes it not surprising that Bowles kept his job, Booger said, adding that he thinks it was the right call. “I think Todd deserved to come back. He made the requisite changes and lets see if they can figure out the holes in this roster.”
“… “I think Jason has to do a job identifying some edge rushers. I think it’s been the most glaring weakness the last two or three years. And I don’t care what kind of defense you call; you can go back an get Buddy Ryan from the old 46 [defense]. If you don’t have guys that can rush the passer, it doesn’t matter what defense you call, it doesn’t matter who’s calling the defense. I think that’s the biggest glaring weakness in this team.”

This is going to be long time gone.

Ukrainian Bucs led by Bozolenski.
January 24th, 2026 at 2:50 pm
Pressure makes diamonds.
Except when the diamonds are manufactured in a lab.
So, make sense out of that.
Or something.
It’s 5 o’clock somewhere.
Happy weekend.
January 24th, 2026 at 2:51 pm
Jason’s FO has delivered above average to exceptional results relating to player scouting, salary cap management, player chemistry and loyalty/culture, ego management, and FO executives development.
It would be crazy to let him go because the HC he essentially inherited refuses to relinquish play calling duties when the game has evidently evolved beyond his scope. If Jason walks the plank, it’s going to be because he refused to step in and demand Todd turn over the defense to a better suited play caller.
January 24th, 2026 at 2:54 pm
Other than the Brady years, Licht is a loser. He has done nothing to help the defense. Bowles should have been fired along with Licht. Am I a detractor, yes but Licht deserves it. He drafts guys on the defense , hypes them, they get a starting position and just about every time they fail. Then he picks up Reddick who is terrible, skips the trade deadline, and brings old man JPP in when everything is lost. Nothing changes until both Bowles and Licht are gone. No SB for the Glazers with these two bozos driving the bus.
January 24th, 2026 at 2:59 pm
“Braswell is going to shock some people”.
Keeping receipts too, Jason.
January 24th, 2026 at 3:07 pm
Hes picked zero studs on the edge. Zero. Hes picked zero lb that matter or can play. So half the defense. Corners below avg. Safeties based on last year below avg. Names are just names. Winfield. Tf has he done in the last two years? Play horribly. Zyon horrible.
Dean up and down and injured. Tykee avg. So my question is what has he done actually. Vea is ok. Kacey hurt. That draft by the way with vea had josh allen in it lol. Who would you rather have josh allen or him? Messidor or bain. He better trade up. Atp hes id even trade Godwin and try to get messidor and styles in the same draft.
January 24th, 2026 at 3:08 pm
“ “I think Todd deserved to come back. He made the requisite changes”
We’ve still got the same terrible DC, and an HC who can’t manage game situations. Even with a clock coach.
January 24th, 2026 at 3:08 pm
It prob was the right decision considering the absurd amt of turnover this offseason. Give them another season to underperform and the we should have a much more interesting coaching bench to consider.
January 24th, 2026 at 3:13 pm
Licht shouldn’t be on the hot seat too. Too many holes on this roster , especially on the defensive side of the ball. Braswell sucks and Licht keeps telling us he can play. Do your job Licht. You need a lot of help on defense and you aren’t finding it all in the draft and with undrafted feee agents. Get to work or you can go too.
January 24th, 2026 at 3:13 pm
If your scheme is dropping your pass rushers into pass coverage…then the scheme does matter! Can’t sack the QB if you’re trying to cover backs and receivers in pass D!
January 24th, 2026 at 3:14 pm
Should be on the hot seat!!!
January 24th, 2026 at 3:16 pm
Is a GM that Never,Ever,Ever makes a move at the Trade Deadline a Real Quality GM-No he is not. Launch Licht and Bowles.
January 24th, 2026 at 3:20 pm
Licht has failed with high defensive draft picks and free agents
JTS, Hall, Braswell, Morrison & Kancey (injured) & Reddick were all first and second round picks
January 24th, 2026 at 3:35 pm
Not having a DE is on Jason. Whether free agent or draft pick, Todd can only use the players on the roster. You draft him a stud or sign the next 7.5 sack DE then everyone keeps their job. A ten sack guy is not reality. Asking for 7.5 sacks from a DE makes everyone better.
Love Vita, but can he be shipped on draft day for a pick. Love him but when he doesn’t produce no fingers are pointed his way. We slandered McCoy fast get off and lack of production but Vita gets nothing. Yes he led the team in sacks once but besides stuffing the tush push, getting doubled often, he’s not contributing to sacks.
January 24th, 2026 at 3:40 pm
Sign nokobe dean draft sales and messidor and this teams drastically different
January 24th, 2026 at 3:44 pm
Jason Licht is a mediocre GM.
Todd Bowles is a mediocre DC and a slightly below mediocre HC.
Baker is a mediocre QB.
What are your expectations in Tampa?
Get real folks…
January 24th, 2026 at 3:47 pm
Oh please, like anything Booger McFarland says matters.
January 24th, 2026 at 3:49 pm
When you pick an edge rusher later in the draft you have to choose between raw athleticism with little production or some production with lower athleticism. Neither of those tend to turn into stars, though the athletes have a better chance. We’ve gone with the athletes yet they have not turned out to be what we hoped for. David Walker is an exception though his high production was in a lower division. He’s also a great athlete. Who knows how that turns out? But without early picks, edge rushers are a crap shoot that craps put far more often than not.
January 24th, 2026 at 3:50 pm
Bucs fan from Philly – Vita getting double teamed is exactly what you want so that someone else can get the sack. Problem is, we have no one else. Vita is not an issue.
January 24th, 2026 at 3:52 pm
Stick this whole organization with a fork.
January 24th, 2026 at 3:56 pm
Very sad that Licht potentially tied his fate to Bowles.
Licht has a SB as a GM here!
Bowles owns 0 SB as a HC, hasn’t come close.
Before the Brady boys come out, of course Brady was the driving force behind that SB win.
Fact is, most fans could see Licht built a solid team and brought in Arians before Brady and the solid team built by Jason was the reason Tom Brady came to Tampa! There is no Brady without Licht or a GM of his ilk, of which there are probably few!
Everyone pointing at his draft picks. Licht has learned a lot and improved his drafting immensely. Show me all the other teams nailing their draft picks every year and improving their front 7.
Minny GM paid to remake his D front this offseason, how that work out?
How Beanes picks of Hairston and Keon Coleman work out so far?
How did the Lions 1st round DL pan out this season?
We have seen results from Licht. I’d hang those division banners at his feet and the team he assembled long before I put them anywhere near Todd.
The fact some of you think replacing Baker and Licht is some easier task than replacing Todd is absolutely wild to me.
January 24th, 2026 at 3:57 pm
The Bucs havw gone WOKE.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:01 pm
@TampaBayBucFan,
Morrison didn’t even have a full offseason and training camp. The kid will get better. He had some mistakes this year because of bad positioning or angles, those are correctable mistakes. As long as he can play man and keep up and understand his role in zone, I think it’s way too early to label him a bust. Logan Hall is serviceable, he’s been great in run D. I don’t have a problem with him as long as we add depth because Kancey is oft-injured and Vita ain’t getting younger.
Booger is right, if Jason can finally hit on a Edge rusher, that alone will save his job. Todd needs to get deep into the playoffs or he’s gone next year.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:04 pm
But, in all honesty, The Glazers like Jason. A Super Bowl win and some HOF draft picks and the ultimate FA signing in Tom Brady has insulated him away from a dreadful coach. Every GM swings and misses, it’s about consistently improving the roster and culture that should be graded.
Jason has learned to not get desperate and greedy in the draft at least. They learned a HARD lesson in the debacle of drafting Roberto way too early.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:04 pm
Some of you people sound like morons. Jason inherited Todd. Likely by order of our cheap azz ownership. Todd can’t coach up anybody on the defense and his scheme is terrible. If it weren’t for the high level athletes that Jason has provided Todd we wouldn’t sniff a .500 win percentage.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:06 pm
What Booger says is fair, and I totally agree. If we have a repeat of last season, a total house cleaning is the next step. For better, or worse, Licht, and Bowles are going down together.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:08 pm
I never understood the love that Licht was getting from this Gullible fanbase
He’s one of the worst GMs in the NFL
He reminds me of a friend of mines, who plays the lottery
He spends hundreds on scratch off tickets
And he hit every now and then
Jason Licht hits on his draft picks every now and then
He’s even worse in free agency
Why did he decide to reward Zyon Mccollum with a fat extension
Only he knows the answer to that
And it’s probably a WORST answer than the Aguayo pick
But, as long as the Glazers are happy with him, so am l
It’s their team, and they call the shots, so it’s all good
January 24th, 2026 at 4:08 pm
Todd Says:
“Pressure makes diamonds.
Except when the diamonds are manufactured in a lab.”
Lab diamonds are made with pressure too.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:08 pm
Can we all agree Jason needs to produce in 2026? Good enough results to survive, but head scratching botches too. If we don’t improve next year, it ain’t gonna work. Go get some real edge rushers.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:09 pm
Jason licht drafted a kicker in second round. Im all for aving a good time but i dont think gms should celebrate and get f#&ed up even after the super bowl with the players either, think thats a bad look. Been out on bowles good dc thats it when he can solely focus on dc.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:09 pm
Todd Says
“Is a GM that Never,Ever,Ever makes a move at the Trade Deadline a Real Quality GM-No he is not. Launch Licht and Bowles.”
He has made trades and such, just not recently.
He’s smart about it.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:09 pm
Buccaneer Bonzai Says:
Oh please, like anything Booger McFarland says matters.
——————————————————————–
It might matter to some people, but not to me. 😉
And while my preference would have been to launch Bowles and upgrade the HC position, I would bet good money that the Glazers had as much or more to do with that decision than Licht. They do get involved when it comes to hiring and firing head coaches.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:10 pm
Ant Says
“Jason licht drafted a kicker in second round.”
Get past it. It was years ago, and he eventually found us good kickers.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:10 pm
I dont think i can take a guy named Booger seriously.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:11 pm
Last years draft picks will develop into better players. Fans always want them to produce instantly, but it takes 2-3 years.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:13 pm
I’ll be honest…the lack of ANY movement on the defense makes me wonder if they are waiting for a playoff coach.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:15 pm
Todd Says:
Is a GM that Never,Ever,Ever makes a move at the Trade Deadline a Real Quality GM-No he is not. Launch Licht and Bowles.
———————————————————————–
Making moves at the trade deadline makes sense IMO only when you’re one or two players from being a contender. Our defense was so bad at the end of the season that I doubt it could be sufficiently fixed to turn the worst defense in the league into one that could be good.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:16 pm
Bud Licht isn’t an elite drafter. He admits he passed on Cam Jordan for Adrian Clayborn. Lovi drafted Mike Evans. Licht drafted Trask, Joe Tryon, Vernon Hargreaves, Noah Spence, Roberto Aguayo, Jake Camarda, OJ Howard, Sirvocea Dennis, So for every Vita Vea and Mike Evans, there’s a 2021 draft where he whiffed on every pick
January 24th, 2026 at 4:17 pm
What does WOKE have to do with anything? Stop trying to bring that kind of mess into football. Only YOU are worrying about that because it’s on the front of your brain for some reason. Congrats to your parents, they did a great job teaching you the ways of life.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:24 pm
It’s such a shame what ESPN did to Booger. He was so great on radio here, reminded me of Patrice O’Neal – had great comedic timing, a interesting story teller, etc. ESPN didn’t hire him for MNF for no reason, it was based on how well he was doing on radio. But then once they put him in the booth, they basically removed all the traits that made him interesting – told him not to be edgy or say anything controversial. No idea why you hire someone who has such a great thing going, only to then completely remove all the things that made them great.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:28 pm
Warrick, you said it. Grover is obsessed with whatever he thinks woke means. And then brings it into a football conversation as if it means something. What an idiot.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:28 pm
Lakeland please just stfu already:
Your homeboy Bowles sucks and you can’t see thru those colored glasses you wear.
Licht has made some mistakes, but also brought Tampa their only other Superbowl. He brought in Brady, Gronk, Brown..he’s drafted Evans, Godwin, EE, Wirfs, Luke, Mauch, AW jr, Vita, Tykee, Bucky, White, Barton…this roster had the talent to be in the playoffs and your homeboy Bowles couldn’t get the job done.
So piss off by deflecting the job your boy has failed to do by blaming only the GM.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:29 pm
Texas, Dominick passed on Jordan for Clayborn.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:32 pm
Licht has never spent a premium draft pick on an edge, not sure why fans act like he has. Earliest is end of the first I think. Its hard to find a premium edge anywhere other than top of draft. I also believe he has picked the guys Bowles wants. He seems to favour guys that are a better fit for a 4-3 than a 3-4 edge asn there was even an article about bowles preference or bigger guys there. Lichts results on offense have been pretty great imo. I’d take his results on defense with a grain of salt as the HC calls a lot of the shots there and it’s collaborative based on what be thinks fits his system. I think secondary picks have been solid, dline mixed bag, edge kinda rough outside Diaby.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:38 pm
The law of averages favors us here. JTS and Braswell are busts. David Walker got hurt. Elijah Robert’s is promising. JPP worked out but Reddick didn’t. Kancey got hurt. We’re one good draft and one free agent signing from having a monster pass rush again, and probabilities favor us.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:39 pm
Jason Licht have drafted over 90 players
And he’s hit on a few good ones in 12 years of drafting
😭😭😭😭😭😂😂😂🤣🤣
These Gullible Bucs fans are amusing
January 24th, 2026 at 4:40 pm
Licht is the best GM we have ever had. Oh, and being woke is far better than sleeping through reality.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:40 pm
@Rod Munch
I really cant stand ESPN. They ruin almost everyone and everything they touch. Its a shame alot of stuff is on ESPN. So insufferable. And I absolutely agree about Booger.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:42 pm
Yeah get past Licht drafting a bad kicker in the 2nd round. That was forever ago.
He’s since drafted a bad punter with a mid round pick. That’s the latest unforced error.
I think the scouts are decent since the overhaul of the department. Licht holds them back with extremely bad process. Pretty much everything Licht has his hands on fails immediately.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:43 pm
What’s amazing to me is the amount of people willing to waste another year on Licht and Bowles.
The four years under Bowles reign of blunder should have ended after 2024.
The collapse of 2025 should have taken Licht down with Bowles to the bottom of the Gulf.
Fortune favors the bold. 3rd and 28.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:45 pm
Bruce Arians could only win 7 games with Licht players
The Brady came in and saved Licht
Now Brady is gone, and Licht is sucking again
January 24th, 2026 at 4:50 pm
How many rosters could win a SB if you add Brady, Gronk, AB, and a bunch of ring chasers. The answer is all of them.
It’s impressive that Licht could pick at the top of the draft every year and not broken clock his way into the playoffs even once before Brady.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:53 pm
People arguing about Licht are you typical low IQ mongoloids who have no idea what they’re watching, or what is going on.
Licht built the team that Brady wanted to play for – and the Bucs win the SB. In 2021, to keep the team together, the Bucs break their pretty long tradition of doing contracts in a way that keep them out of cap hell. At the time, literally everyone is on-board, but it’s also know this will have a price to pay down the road.
In 2022, Brady retires, but comes back, so the Bucs go further into the hole to try to win again – after all they were one play from most likely winning another SB and Brady was coming off a year that he should have won the MVP. Again, no one really has an issue with going deeper into the hole. But Arians retiring tanks the team in the end – but obviously we don’t know that. Still, even in a down year the Bucs make the playoffs.
In 2023, this is the first year where the previous years start to catch up some. The Bucs get Baker on a discount, and despite his middling play, the NFC South is so weak the Bucs make the playoffs – and even beat an Eagles team that is falling apart in the playoffs.
In 2024, after the success in 2023, the Bucs decide, yet again, to try to keep that playoff window alive and dig even deeper into a hole. Baker has by far the best year of his career – until the playoffs.
In 2025, with Baker coming off a career year, the Bucs want to keep the playoff window alive, in particular in a very weak NFC South. However losing Coen really hurts the team, and Baker turns back into a pumpkin and ultimately costs the team a playoff spot with his awful play over the 2nd half of the season.
If you know anything about football, you know what a good job Licht has done to try to keep this run going.
January 24th, 2026 at 4:57 pm
I believe it’s difficult judge or grade GMs. Most agree Todd has not been able to develop players, especially edge rush. So while a couple of JLs picks are questionable you have to ask if it’s the players we draft or inability to develop them by coaching staff. I think there is a lot of trying to make players on D do things that they were never good at (Braswell). Square pegs round holes. If you say Jason has been a B minus to C, Todd has been C minus to D. I also believe Baker had Todd’s back because Todd gave him the chance to further his career.
January 24th, 2026 at 5:03 pm
Licht built a team that went 7-9. There were a lot of teams Brady wanted to play for, the Bucs were not high on the list, we got lucky they all told him no.
The Bucs remained competitive with a horrible roster because of a cheap Baker contract (that Licht had to be hounded by Arians/Bowles to sign.) Some good OC hires that Licht had nothing to do with. And the NFC South being so poor, another thing Licht had nothing to do with.
Arians also told Licht from day 1 that any team success will leave us holding the Bowles/Leftwich bag. Licht was ok with that and it happened.
Any other understanding of the situation lacks historical context, ball knowledge, and critical thinking.
January 24th, 2026 at 5:08 pm
Jason Licht was 27-53 before Tom Brady
He sucked then and he suck now
January 24th, 2026 at 5:15 pm
So we wouldn’t hire Harbaugh because we refused to let Licht go and yet we inquired about him. So Bowles and Licht are tied at the hip. I think not.
January 24th, 2026 at 5:23 pm
StPeteMatt
No, and a resounding yes
January 24th, 2026 at 5:37 pm
Rod, good synopsis. I’ve noticed that most of the ignorant pos(t)ers here are new to the site. Maybe they’re also new to the game.
January 24th, 2026 at 5:37 pm
They cannot draft or develop pass rushers. Let’s see if they can find some good defensive coaches in here. If Light & Bowels fail time to clean house. Tired of this crappy defensive scheme. Get some dam ballers!
January 24th, 2026 at 6:05 pm
I don’t typically disagree with @rod munch, but you’re actually a Licht Supporter, no edge rushers and you think he’s done good? That’s wild? Licht is a below average GM and the roster and contracts on the current roster shows it. Bucs may not make it to the playoffs next year, especially with all the free agents this year, also Winfield is not playing on guaranteed money, LVD and Mike might retire – this is shaky territory.
January 24th, 2026 at 6:05 pm
@ Lakeland
Did you watch tom Brady’s last playoff game in New England? You need talent to win games and the talent is what brought Brady to Tampa DUH.
Licht wasn’t the one saying linebacker was the deepest position on the roster, you give a coach what he thinks he needs. Didn’t Bowles staff say they didn’t care where the sacks came from? 😂 expecting coaches to be good at coaching is just too much for Licht to overcome I guess
January 24th, 2026 at 6:09 pm
What is Booger McFarland smoking. Jason Licht front office has been doing a very good job identifying talent. He’s not in the hot seat. I find this chair side second guessing as throwing anything on the wall and see what sticks on the wall.
Very stupid.
January 24th, 2026 at 6:10 pm
What came first…the chicken or the egg?
Our drafted defensive players come in and play well as rookies and then regress. If the coaching and development of these players was good they wouldn’t have fired most of the defensive staff.
Ive said this many times before, its almost impossible for a GM to be close to lights out on drafting offensive players and the exact opposite with defensive players.
This team has a head coach that doubles as the defensive coordinator. You can’t tell me for a second that Bowles isnt rubber stamping these defensive draft picks. Licht is drafting defensive players that this defensive coaching staff says that they can develop and play with. Even before Bowles become the head coach, I doubt if he didnt have a heavy hand in the defensive draft pick scouting.
January 24th, 2026 at 6:15 pm
Anon, where the hell are you coming up with that info? Just making things up and spewing as fact? That’s a big problem in our world today. Quote sources next time smart guy.
Lakeland, if you wanna use the soft division as a reason for winning, you would do well to remember that the first 8 years of Lichts tenure, the division was anything but weak. Saints were perennial contenders, Cam Newton was in his prime and went 15-1 one year, the Falcons were decent with Matt Ryan and also made a SB.
Playoff team with 10 wins last season, with a lame duck HC and 75% drafted players by JL. Should tell you everything you need to know.
January 24th, 2026 at 6:49 pm
12 years!
.449% winning %
Licht is a complete Mark Dominik level loser without Tom Brady.
With Brady? 45% loser. That SB is SIX FREAKING YEARS AGO.
Anyone that think Jason Licht is a good GM is low IQ. Pre and post Brady the guys sucks out loud. If you want to win? Licht is NOT the guy. 12 years.
.449% loser
January 24th, 2026 at 6:54 pm
I’ll take Licht over half the GMs in this league lol hits and misses, some of y’all are such sore sports y’all are questioning everything in a vacuum. I get the right to an opinion, believe in the power of complaining, but idk what’s worse reading so many one-sided POVs or the tribalism being taking to discussion so as a Buc fan you can be a “Licht Supporter”.
I’ll tell you what, that MF’er gets us another SB, I’ll erect the statue myself.
Look around the NFL, there’s MUCH worse out there in the league and especially up in West NY .
January 24th, 2026 at 6:54 pm
Licht DID NOT BRING IN GRONK LOLOLOL
Brady brought in his people…Gronk AB LF…if Licht brought in such a GRAET CAST OF GUYS why hasn’t he done it since then?
Riddle me that goobs – if Jason Licht built a SB winner why does he sucks so bad before Brady and post Brady?
Answer me, goobs?
January 24th, 2026 at 6:55 pm
BRADY WANTED TO GOTO SAN FRAN FIRST – THEY TOLD HIM NO
THAT IS FACT!!!!!!
January 24th, 2026 at 7:03 pm
I love the guys in here that use others perceived IQ as a weapon against their opinion. Showing your cards fellas.
Jason inherited a bad team and bad culture. He drafted Jameis and made some other boneheaded picks. I was as mad as anyone about Aguayo but that’s 10 years and a SB win ago, that’s called water under the bridge.
75% drafted players on a 10 win playoff team last year. No other team in the league can say that. Bowles is the real problem here, it’s so crazy that so many don’t see it. That group apparently includes Licht, and that’s the only valid reason for calling for his head if this season goes as poorly as I suspect. And by poorly, I mean the same season we watched 2 of the last 4 years. Common denominator Bowles without a real good OC or just real good coach if we aren’t calling Canales a good OC.
January 24th, 2026 at 7:10 pm
Licht should have this job for life. Full stop. The idea that he’s on the hot seat is crazy.
January 24th, 2026 at 7:13 pm
“Brady brought in his people…Gronk AB LF…if Licht brought in such a GRAET CAST OF GUYS why hasn’t he done it since then?”
Brady doesn’t even consider Tampa if Licht hadn’t built an offense loaded with guys like Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, even that year he drafted Wirfs snd Winfield, who you probably don’t win the Super Bowl without. He also hired Arians and on and on and on.
He gets mountains of credit.
January 24th, 2026 at 7:15 pm
Why is his overall record .449% if he’s so good?
That includes the Brady years. If he’s so good why does his record suck without Brady? You can’t answer it. Bowles? That defense has no talent whatsoever.
Who on that D would start for other teams?
January 24th, 2026 at 7:27 pm
Let There Be Licht seems to have unlimited job security. I believe he’s one of the longest tenured GMs in the league ( 7th…or 5th if you don’t count owners Jones & Brown ). Recently he has extended players early who have since regressed. Hopefully this is a make or break year for him along with his boiler brother Bowles.
January 24th, 2026 at 7:38 pm
I was 100% in support of Licht until he signed off on keeping Bowles. Now they are tied together. If the Glazers pushed Bowles on Licht, he should have asked to be released and gone elsewhere. Agreeing with the move sealed his fate as far as I’m concerned.
January 24th, 2026 at 7:41 pm
Another great post Rod (bc it wasn’t about your myopic Baker hate)
For those who like to point the finger at Licht for his failures Licht has made drafting and signing FA defensive players, you are partially correct. No argument, licht is responsible. BUT, do you really think Licht does not have Bowles bless these players 100% before hand? So, its a 50/50 deal. But, Jason Licht, at some point since YOU have full responsibility, ignore Todd (who has NEVER developed an EDGE rusher) and pick the players you think will succeed.
Also, thank you Booger for turning on the light. I was pissed at the Glazers for not firing Bowles, bc I thought it was about Bowles contract extension – about MONEY. Why else would they not fire Bowles. Sure, they like him, like that the players play hard or him, yada, yada, yada. I have NEVER looked at the Glazers for being cheap and if they kept him bc of money it really pissed me off. BUT, that’s not it.
I see now, the choice for the Glazers was not just about firing Bowles, the Glazers have Todd and Licht tied at the hip. Licht is failing on the defensive side. I think the Glazers kept Bowles bc Licht is also under the microscope and they were not ready to fire BOTH Bowles and Licht. So, the Glazers gave BOTH Bowles and Licht one more year! That makes way more sense

Jason Bowles are totally tied at the hip now.
No decent coach is going to want their own GM.
This is Licht’s last year.

SB halftime show this year?

Often the kicker is the highest scoring player on a team. Can’t blame Aquayo on Licht, as he set records in his college years. Who would have guessed Roberto would tank in the NFL?… no one. And Camarda’s rookie year was amazing. I still admire the mis-snap he picked up, and booted on the run under pressure. What ever mental collapse he had later was not on Licht.
And you might note, Chase McLaughlin stats before becoming a Buc were not that amazing. He’s pretty amazing now. I suspect even Licht, is surprised.

Who names a kid Booger?
January 24th, 2026 at 9:13 pm
Well, he was responsible for the last 60% (final 6-years) of this “Lost Decade” that everyone likes to talk about. Until, Brady arrived that is. And, STOP IT about “our roster” being so great was the reason HE signed here, with Tampa Bay. It was “a roster” that MISSED the Playoffs AGAIN BADLY, just the year before. And it was NOT even in HIS ‘TOP 3-PICKS’ either, of his ‘very limited’ number of potential destinations, to begin with. Ummmm, because that would have been SAN FRAN, MIAMI, AND VEGAS. San Fran and Vegas BOTH told him “NO,” including GRUDEN. Though, Mark Davis did want him. Gruden at the time, REFUSED. So, technically, HE gave us TWO Super Bowles. We should thank him for that! Then, of course, everyone knows about what happened with all of the fallout in Miami, from the collusion.
So, here we are NOW… Looooong Removed from the whole “Brady-Effect.” You can all see HOW THAT’S WORKING OUT. We’re SCREWED. In the WORST division in FOOTBALL, for 4-YEARS running. 93-104. 12-YEARS. Just a complete total FAILURE at reconstructing and rebuilding this roster post Brady. He’s WEAK and doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing. And, HIS RECORD SHOWS. It speaks for itself! It was ONLY because of BRADY, who came in and completely changed the culture of the franchise… NOT JL. Jascum LICKT didn’t have a DAMN thing to do with it. Period. End of Story.
January 24th, 2026 at 9:41 pm
Lickt SHOULD BE under pressure, and SHOULD NOT BE allowed to hire the next head coach. That’s just speaking ‘reality’ and TRUTH. After another failed season in another weak division, that should easily be had. But, “Requisite changes!?” Uhhh, NO. I don’t think so. WHERE is the new full-time DC… I haven’t heard the first WORD about it!? And, “no edge-rushers for several years now!?” Again, WHO is at fault there… WHO is responsible for THAT!? That’s right, JL.
It’s a flawed system of evaluating and recognizing TALENT. And, he has FAILED every single bit as much at THAT, than what he has in free agency! I’m telling you… HE. DOESN’T. KNOW. What The Hell. HE’S DOING. Period. End of Story. 93-104, which INCLUDES riding Brady’s coattails, up on the that Brady-Train. It was ALL ‘smiles’ and constantly being ‘out-front’ THEN. Where’s HE AT NOW!? Crickets.
January 24th, 2026 at 9:43 pm
He doesn’t even have THE BALLS to step TF UP and force Bowles to hire a ‘full-time’ DC. But, that’s okay tho… They’re all good ‘buddies’ here.

“Jason’s FO has delivered above average to exceptional results relating to player scouting, salary cap management, player chemistry and loyalty/culture, ego management, and FO executives development.”
This is absolutely, SO ABSURD. Delusional. It’s some MAJOR Stockholm Syndrome.

Listen to the balance of that interview of Booger with TKraz.. Boog did not come across very astutely. He talks X and O football pretty well but when it comes to ownership, management and coaching, he comes across as a bit of a buffoon on the Bucs situation.. He strikes me as very biased and supports bringing Bowles back as essentially a no brainer.
January 24th, 2026 at 9:56 pm
He wasn’t surprised about them bringing Bowles back because HE KNOWS this ownerships group and FO, and knows how they work.
January 24th, 2026 at 10:14 pm
I’m really late to the conversation but when I see Bucs edge rushers dropping into coverage repeatedly one has to ask themselves the obvious … and then there’s several plays where Vita Vea dropped backed and was looking around like what am I doing here … Bucs getting an edge rushing beast if a waste of free agency and draft capital … just sayin’
January 24th, 2026 at 10:22 pm
Why? Those words came out of Brady’s own mouth. Multiple times he’s said that. Seem to recall those same guys won a Super Bowl the next year.
So who acquiring all of those players that won the Super Bowl? Mark Dominik? Bruce Allen? Rich McKay? The Fairy f’ing Godmother?

@ Rod Munch – I really liked him on SEC Network, with PAWL and SEC Nation. He was PERFECT and I had holes that he would be on there FOREVER, along with Laura. I’m SO HAPPY she continues to do the SEC Gameday Show every Saturday! They were never going to be able to keep HER. It was only a matter of time before she was off to bigger and better things… She’s a SUPERSTAR. And, PAWL 💯 Made Her and showed her to the nation. I’d love to see Booger come back though, and play a major role in the show and channel again! I believe HE was made for THE SEC Network.
I’m SO excited for SEC Baseball coming up soon. It’s AWESOME. Just Major MAJOR, TOP TOP TALENT, especially now, with NIL. More and more TOP Prospects and TOP Picks are staying in college longer, (&/or) are choosing college OVER jumping straight to the ‘minors’ now, when coming outta HS. Schools are investing HEAVILY in it now… BIG BIG $$$$ and resources on ALL of these stadiums and facilities, and luxury suites, & etc. I absolutely LOVE-IT. It really is AWESOME. The stadiums, atmospheres and ‘high end’ TALENT all over the field. Just Everything About It.
Also, the women’s ‘gymnastics’ teams… (just TRUST ME haha) LoL. But, seriously tho… Jam PACKED Arenas, and PACKED FULL, of future and current present day OLYMPIANS on these teams in THE SEC. Women’s Volleyball is absolutely EXPLODING and ON FIRE too, with JAM PACKED arenas, up to the rafters!!!! It’s THE SEC.

@ Joe Says: “Why? Those words came out of Brady’s own mouth. Multiple times he’s said that. Seem to recall those same guys won a Super Bowl the next year.”
Well, yeah! Duh… Of course, he said that! What else do you think he’s going to say!? That, “They SUCKED!?” Well, of course not. And, NO. It was absolutely NOT “the same roster that WON the Super Bowl.” Ummm, AB, Gronk, Lenny, Wirfs. And, NO. Absolutely, NOT… Does JL get credit for drafting the very LAST of the ‘Top-5’ surefire stud O-Linemen in that draft. WHEN, literally everyone else already KNEW, that they had to FOR BRADY. Now, come on. He had to trade up a couple of spots just to get the LAST ONE LEFT. And, Tampa Bay was HIS 4TH-PICK. Not First, or Even CLOSE. When, there wasn’t very many ‘options’ left for him at that point in his career, and after the season he’d just had. Remember, EVERYONE was saying that he was washed. There were VERY FEW suitors left, who longed for HIS services, by then. It’s just a well-known fact.

The Bucs. Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda and ain’t never Gonna . The Bucs in a nutshell.
January 24th, 2026 at 10:53 pm
And, don’t forget Brady himself… BRADY, AB, Gronk, Lenny, & Wirfs. Not even CLOSE to being the same roster. You did have a very young secondary, that actually came together, and ‘caught fire’ at the exact perfect time of the season. But, AGAIN…That was ALL the “Brady-Effect,” and the culture that HE instilled in them AND this team and franchise as a whole. It had absolutely NOTHING to do with friggin’ JL.
January 24th, 2026 at 11:03 pm
Brady came in here a man on a mission, and immediately GOT TO WORK. He heard all the naysayers who had said that he was “washed-up,” and he had been ‘turned down’ by HIS FIRST ‘TWO’ CHOICES of places where he wanted to play! He came here with an EDGE and a HUGE chip on his shoulder, from Belichick and ALL of ‘em. Now, he sure didn’t leave here in the same way, but he’d already gotten his Super Bowl, and his revenge and validation.
January 24th, 2026 at 11:12 pm
If it wasn’t for Brady, Jason Licht would have been fired a long time ago.

But it’s the defense that Bowels created and everybody knows he doesn’t covet edge rushers instead he wants them covering tight ends and rbs and Licht drafted the players he wanted. Imagine how much better our defense could’ve been if they had only drafted Scam Jordan instead of the guy with a half broke chicken wing.
January 25th, 2026 at 1:57 am
The Joe’s are Licht sword swallowers….for whatever reason…dinner invites…info nuggets…no way that joebucsfan can honestly think Jasonb Licht is a GOOD GM by any metric.
Joe’s are sell outs…click bait…do not listen to these guys….
