Bucs Interview Dixie Chicks OC Zac Robinson

January 12th, 2026

Virtual interview.

If the Bucs are looking to get sneaky production from the tight end position and maybe reestablish a rookie receiver, Zac Robinson may be the Bucs’ guy.

Now it is a running joke that Robinson and Atlanta haven’t gotten much out of talented tight end Kyle Pitts. Well, Joe learned Pitts had the second-most receiving yards of any tight end in the league last year.

It helped that Pitts racked up yards facing a Todd Bowles defense.

Interestingly, the Bucs did a virtual interview with Robinson yesterday for their opening at offensive coordinator.

Earlier this year, Robinson was tagged as “beleaguered” because of “his stubborn usage of the pistol formation.”

Aside from getting production from highly-drafted talent (aside from the quarterback), it helps that Robinson worked directly under Sean McVay in various roles with the Rams for five seasons before jumping to Atlanta with Raheem Morris in 2024.

Robinson also got production from a stud like running back Bijan Robinson. So if the Bucs are looking to reestablish a running attack, they could do worse than Zac Robinson.

And, Robinson knew what to do with a talented young wide receiver like Drake London. The past two seasons with Robinson running Atlanta’s offense, London had his two best in the NFL.

So “this Joe” (and this Joe only) would trust Robinson to be able to figure out where Bucs rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka went hiding in the second half of the 2025 season.

Below are Robinson’s numbers running the Dixie Chicks’ offense.

Total yards per game
2025:
14th in NFL
2024: 6th

Passing yards per game
2025:
19th
2024: 5th

Rushing yards per game
2025:
8th
2024: 10th

Points per game
2025:
24th
2024: 13th

Those aren’t spectacular numbers but they’re not awful, though the points per game this past season makes Joe cringe.

How much was the successful running game due to Robinson scheming up the Dixie Chicks and how much of it was just sheer talent from Bijan Robinson? That’s anyone’s guess.

And remember halfway through last year, Atlanta starting quarterback Michael Penix went down with a knee injury.

So the Bucs could do a lot worse than Robinson. Are there better options? Yes. Are there worse options? Certainly.

  2. johnnythemoon Says:

Funny Grizz Offense had more pts and yds than Canales but Coen set the Bar high.

  3. Tony Says:

I say interview the waterboy or the inmate at the local jail for the job & maybe bail him out. Oh that’s right they’d have to chip in $$$$ for that & they don’t like to chip in any $$$$. So we’re down to pretty much the homeless dude on the street. He’d be more than happy to come in for the interview & he’d be more than happy to help out anybody.

  4. Tony Says:

MAKE TOM MOORE THE OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR! BRING HIM BACK & GIVE HIM THAT POSITION!

  5. Daryl Green Says:

Well guys there’s your McVay tree thingy you guys have been craving for.
He won’t be a threat to take the HC job will he ? 🤭 ok we have more to interview. Probably should making and decision in two weeks. 🤙🏾

  6. Aqualung Says:

Bowles is a genius and will surely make him great. He’s so good at doing multiple jobs, multiple phases. Too bad all the assistant coaches he hired simply sucked. Now he’ll hire new ones and that will fix everything.

    Genius.

  7. Rod Munch Says:

Bowles has hit 2 of his 3 OC picks out of the park, and I’m not convinced that Grizz was ever his pick based on how quickly he dumped him. While people can whine and complain about Bowles all they want, this is one area he should get the benefit of the doubt.

  8. Daryl Green Says:

Don’t do that Rod M. If the first two was he decision than the third was🤙🏾

  9. Daryl Green Says:

Really he got bad Break. The other two didn’t have the injuries he had to overcome as a first year play caller. So really he was a scapegoat. I’m good with that. I’m concerned about the DC, well, can’t change that so there’s that.🤙🏾

  10. Bucfan1988 Says:

    No thanks!!

Need to interview Nate Scheelhaase, Rams passing game coordinator…he’s been with the Rams the past 2 years..

From what I’ve been reading, this guy has similar background to Coen…

Was an OC & quarterback coach for Iowa State from 2018 – 2023…

Gotta get a look at this guy!!

  11. Let em bake Says:

Baker worked with Zac during his rams stint. If baker likes him, he’s going to get a good look.

  12. Day 1-76 Says:

The most nonsensical thing you wrote in that post was that he got production from Bijan Robinson. Amazing!! Also, we have no tight ends on the level of Kyle Pitts. The fact that he isn’t a top tight end in the NFL is a fault that needs to be looked at. Pitts sure as hell lights up any defense Bowles throws at him.

  13. Buc king Says:

Gruden is the answer for the offense and he would love the job ..2.5 million bonus of 1 mil if we get to the superbowl..he will sign tomo and our offense will thrive in the west coast offense

  14. heyjude Says:

I don’t know. Is he still stubborn? If so, it could be another problem.

Bucfan1988 says “No thanks!! Need to interview Nate Scheelhaase.” Agreed, interview Nate and Mike McDaniel if they don’t get a HC position. Seems like the Browns may be interested in Nate and the Titans with Mike though.

  15. FortMyersDave Says:

Interview Scheelehaase, Mike McDaniel and Monken. Z Robinson did school Bowles and his D but deduct those stats from his 2024 and 2025 totals and his numbers are not nearly as good. Guy is from the McVay tree and Rah’s ineptitude could have affected Z Robinson just like Bowles probably handcuffed Grizz the scapegoat.

  16. Ted Says:

So now I understand the rules @ Rod Munch…..
If the Ass. Coach was good , Bowles gets all the credit for hiring them and if the coach poops his pants, Bowles was forced to hire him. Second rule is Baker is garbage each and every day he puts on a Bucs uniform.

  17. Bee Says:

Thats it Bucs, leave no stone unturned and hire someone worse than the guy you fired. Seems like they’re having trouble finding someone wanting to move their family for a one year job. Shocking.

Plus I’m sure these candidates saw the QB meltdown the last 9 games of the season which lead to the firing of the last OC. I’m sure there’s a long line of guys willing to sign up for that.

Who is the OC thats loves this roster and wants to run a run, first offense with a stacked WR room? I guess we’ll find out…

  18. heyjude Says:

FortMyersDave – Thank you for the reminder, Monken too!

  19. Okiejim Says:

Ted Says, so it’s the Bucs uniform that makes the current QB garbage?

  20. TDTB Says:

It’s possible that through interviews they will realize Bowles is a problem…but hope springs eternal.

  21. Outrigger Says:

We interviewed Scheelhsuse last year and I really wanted the Bucs to hire him based on his time with McVay and his history of calling plays at Iowa State. Grizz had no play calling experience ever. Even with the injuries, I think our offense would have been better under Scheelhause but we’ll never know.

  22. Outrigger Says:

If Matt LeFleur and Tomlin are fired and we don’t pounce then the Glazers are completely clueless and this franchise is doomed until they sell the team

  23. HeavyE Says:

What difference will it make? Who they decide to hire as OC, baker will still be the QB!!! baker is the problem! that’s why Canalas and Coen left, they new the TRUTH, both of them wanted better QB’s, & got them!!!

  24. Scotty Mack Says:

Still got more interviews to do, but they are starting to get on the right track with Robinson. He’s better than anyone else they have interviewed, thus far.

  25. Scotty Mack Says:

Gruden isn’t going to take a job with a team that doesn’t already have an extremely good defense with studs on that side of the ball. He can turn practically any talent level into a force on offense but defense isn’t his thing and needs that to already be in place for him to succeed.

  26. Outrigger Says:

There are 8 teams looking for a head coach and haven’t heard of any of them interested in Gruden. He’s a has been. Only had one good season with the Bucs and that was with Dungy’s team. The Raiders sucked in his second go around with them. Enough either way the Gruden talk.

  27. ChiBuc Says:

When you gotta say, “So the Bucs could do a lot worse than Robinson. Are there better options? Yes. Are there worse options? Certainly.” You are setting the bar low. But then again, the retention of Bowles already established that

  28. ChiBuc Says:

Joe, isn’t the infatuation with the McVay “tree” a little like chasing a bet. Every team and their mother wanna pick fruit from that tree. At some point, the code will be cracked (not to mention McVay has had a timeless wonder at QB, NOTE: he did NOT retain Mayfield as heir apparent), and will be played out. Why not try to get ahead of the curve for once, rather than constantly chasing past success? Let Bowles do his inevitable flame out this year, and start looking at the Campbell/Ben Johnson tree. Better yet, plant your own d@mn tree for a change

  29. Marky mark Says:

When are they legally allowed to interview A!ex Van Pelton?

  30. 813bucboi Says:

    ChiBuc

    I agree!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  31. Pewter Power Says:

Atlanta had Drake London who is decent, Kyle Pitts who is meh and Bijan Robinson that’s it. With those numbers the Bucs offense would get him head coach interviews next year

  32. WutdaBucisthis Says:

Comment of the year so far goes to @ChiBuc. Yes, plant your own tree. Someone from the Ben Johnson tree would be interesting
    Go Bucs

  33. It's Corn Says:

it is still kind of early in the process to assume Bowles will be back. Until they SIGN one of these coordinator hires, nothing is off the table.

AFAIK, they were interested in Harbaugh after Bowles meeting. So they are ready to cut him loose for the right prize.

Mike Tomlin or Matt LaFleur could still become available. They would jump on Tomlin I bet.

They might even wait for Tomlin’s future to be determined and then hire someone like Lincoln Riley or Mike McDaniel, being their second choice, with Bowles a distant fourth.

  34. Slacker Says:

Nobody was calling for baker’s head last year or early this season. He’s not the problem. There’s bigger issues to address than qb.

  35. Bosch Says:

Only if he brings Pitts and London with him.

  36. WutdaBucisthis Says:

@813bucboi, I’m at wits end with Todd. Can’t lie, this collapse 🤕 hurt bad. Will always love the Bucs though.
    Go Bucs

  37. Bucs Fan From Philly Says:

I am concerned that the Eagles will fire their OC, and will be every OC’s dream job, super bowl capable offense, and if someone can win in year one then they are on a fast track for Head Coaching interviews. I hope the Eagles OC position doesn’t make us lose an OC candidate.

  38. Kenny Says:

Hard to get “sneaky” tight end production when we have the worst TE trio in the NFL.

  39. Vegasbuc Says:

    Nope

  40. Bobby Says:

Fire Bowles, this whole thing is ridiculous. Don’t understand why Bucs leadership likes him so much as a coach. I understand as a person, but not as a coach

  41. Lord Cornelius Says:

I liked him the year we hired Dave so I’m fine with it.

  42. buc4evr Says:

I don’t understand this McVay tree thing? He learned the WCO from Jon Gruden and to an extent from Jay Gruden when he was with the Redskins. So why don’t the Bucs just go after Gruden if they are so enamored with McVay. Gruden is crazy, will eventually burn the house down, but I think he can hold players accountable and really improve the offense.

  43. Cardiac kidz Says:

Sure, hire a guy that has proven he couldn’t win with all the studs on the Falcons offense. Brilliant!

  44. Bobby Says:

Agree 100% with buc4ever, Bucs should go get Gruden, Kyle Shannon and Sean McVay learned under Gruden. So why not just get Jon Gruden. Doesn’t make sense what Bucs leadership is doing.

  45. No Mercy Says:

I’ve been watching football for a long time. Grizzard on the dolphins never striked me as a guy that will ever be successful as on OC. He was good last year because of coen. Glad he’s gone. Think we will be much improved even with a Zack Robinson

  46. James west Says:

Nope not liking it, do the easy thing ask ME 13 who he likes, if they are gonna try to lure him back to the bucs next season

  47. Buc king Says:

When I say gruden I met off coordinator

  48. BucsFan81 Says:

Won’t matter as long as Toilet Bowles is in charge. There is not an offensive coordinator on this planet that score enough points for the amount of points Bowles defense give up.

  49. David Says:

So far from what I’ve seen, he is the only OC candidate they’ve mentioned worth anything. This guy was pretty good and he’s young. Much rather have that & some innovation than some 55 to 65 year-old re-tread.

  50. Rod Munch Says:

Don’t do that Rod M. If the first two was he decision than the third was🤙🏾

    ———-

I wonder if Licht and ownership leaned on Bowles to keep continuity – instead of going through the process Bowles went through the previous two years.

Anyways, one area Bowles has excelled in is this, so I’ll let him go through the entire process and give the benefit of the doubt to the pick.

  51. GhostofBrady Says:

I am all in for OC, QB Coaches and Passing Game Coordinators that worked for the Rams under McVay. Zac Robinson and the Kubiaks would be my top choices for OC. Zac also helped Baker while he played those 5 games as a Ram. Honorable mention goes to Brian Callahan who uses similar scheme to McVay through his time under another McVay protege Cincy’s Zac Taylor. The scheme relies on scheming what the QB and the skill players do best. Those 4 would be my wish list for the Baker Buccaneers McVay offense in 2026.

  52. You wish Says:

If only we would have known
