Adam Schefter Explains Todd Bowles’ Hot-Seat Status
January 5th, 2026So why is ESPN NFL and Bucs super insider Adam Schefter painting Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles as a man whose job security is in question?
There are a few reasons:
- When asked, the Bucs didn’t tell Schefter that Bowles is 100 percent returning for the 2026 season.
- Schefter believes the Bucs aren’t 100 percent firm on Bowles.
- It’s Schefter’s job to fuel the intriguing hot-seat entertainment machine for his NFL partner employer.
Schefter spoke about 1:30 p.m. on The Pat McAfee Show and referenced Bowles — and how teams aren’t always candid with him.
“When I did the report on ESPN [Sunday], you know, I put [Colts head coach] Shane Steichen, [Falcons head coach] Raheem Morris, [Cardinals head coach] Jonathan Gannon and Todd Bowles the category ‘I lean safe’ on all of them. Because you’re talking to people within the teams and they give you the sense that they think they want to keep him,” Schefter said.
Schefter went on to get specific on Bowles without being asked.
“I was told [the Bucs] don’t want to make a change, but I was told that with Jonathan Gannon, too, and a change came — and Raheem Morris, and he’s out. So, these things are fluid. But you have an idea of who’s on the hot seat, and then who gets the chair pulled out from underneath them.”
So there’s the latest from a very-prepared guy whose texts and calls into into One Buc Palace get answered.

Translation: I’m a media tool that teams use to fuel whatever narrative we want out there
January 5th, 2026 at 2:01 pm
If Bowles was getting fired it would already be done.
There’s absolutely no reason to wait until the press conference.
They are going to double down on this loser coach.
At least we don’t have to watch the Rams stomp us 52-10 in the playoffs.
Bowles lousy defense and ultra conservative mindset clinched that for the fans.
Thanks Todd.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:03 pm
Wasn’t Adam Schefter the one who claimed Bowles would NOT get fired last month?
January 5th, 2026 at 2:04 pm
Yeah. I’m leaning to Bowles is safe for a year. If it’s a flop then Bowles and Licht should be gone next year. If Bucs have a winning season then they stay on. My issue is I know people who won’t buy tickets or nfl pass or merchandise. Fans are giving up and another year of mediocre/poor record will make it harder to get those fans back.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:04 pm
AlstottNo1…
That’s because he’s going to retire. I just have a feeling. I could be way off, of course. For all I or we know, he’s getting an extension on top of his extension and a raise on top of that.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:05 pm
AlstottNumber1 Says:
“If Bowles was getting fired it would already be done.”
That has not been the case in to past…but it’s possible he has already been notified and they just don’t want it public yet.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:06 pm
4-5 teams have already fired their coaches. And us? It’s blamed on injuries and we get another losing season with the 3 stooges.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:07 pm
Freddy PA Moxie, the retirement thing could be valid. They could be negotiating a retirement package with him too, since him retiring would cancel his contract. Convincing him to retire could be the reason for the delay.
In my mind, being fired or retiring means informing some people before it goes public.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:07 pm
I HATE to say it but the Falcons having the same record this season, better month of December, HC for just 2 years and KNOW that is long enough to see winning demands a high football I.Q. as HC and you don’t have that… Neither does the Bucs BUT their friendship (or much worse) may be the reason they keep their low football I.Q. imposter of a HC employed!
January 5th, 2026 at 2:07 pm
Per SB Nation, “I don’t know what the Bucs see in Todd Bowles, but it seems the team is thinking long and hard about their coach’s future. This is a team that underachieved at the back end of the season to dramatic levels, while Bowles threw his own players under the bus. It’s unclear if there’s a way to mend all the relationships damaged over the Tampa losing streak.”
Me neither.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:08 pm
My guess, They told him, at the very least, the DB coaches gotta go, and he’s not the D-Coordinator anymore. Now they are waiting on whether he retires, since those guys have been with him forever, or they have to actually fire him. I suspect the Glazers would like a retirement decision.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:08 pm
The window is closing. The Bucs need a great offense-minded head coach who can take advantage of all the talent on that side of the ball. This offense should put up 30+ points per game. It should be talked about like The Greatest Show on Turf.
That’s why I want Gruden back. His offensive mind and his ability to motivate players + a slightly above average defensive coordinator = Super Bowl.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:09 pm
No matter who comes in. This defense needs 2-3 legit pass rushers a some inside LB help badly. Bring in comp for the other areas. Offense needs a new coach and some better depth and has about it. A lot of screaming fans think we need to bow the whole thing up which isn’t necessarily. There’s a lot to build on. Honestly fix the ST and we have won prob 2 more games. Defense obviously is the worst unit. All is fixable. Winning the division next year is more than doable. Yes we should have won this year but that’s now in the rear view. Time to move forward
January 5th, 2026 at 2:10 pm
It is very strange that NOTHING has leaked yet, considering if it is true that an upcoming press conference is supposedly scheduled at 3:30. I would think that IF he is seriously going to step aside and retire, then that would’ve somehow already been leaked BY NOW!? Sounds like, they are ALL coming BACK, and they’re going to use this BIG ‘press conference’ to try selling MORE BS to the true believers, and propaganda followers. They are all fricking DELUSIONAL. If true, then we are in a REALLY BAD spot right now, with this ownership group. Miserably, pathetically, SO BADDDDD.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:12 pm
I won’t blame anyone person for the crappy year, but his name rhymes with Bodd Towles! and he should be fired!
January 5th, 2026 at 2:12 pm
Hopefully the Glazers are telling Todd that he has to hire a DC. Keeping Todd gives the Glazers time to vet the next coach.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:13 pm
The primary reason the Bucs were able to win the NFC South in 2022, 2023, and 2024 is because the other teams in the division have been terrible. Coaching has been average at best. Free agent and in season management of the roster has been terrible. They refused to make moves to shore up obvious holes and weaknesses. Thankfully, the draft has been solid.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:14 pm
If I’m the Glazers, I’m going to take a little time with this decision. They just renewed his contract for 3 years. I’d look at the following:
1. What do the players think of the coach?
2. What were the issues: Offense, Defense, and Special Teams?
3. What caused the issues: Bowles, New Assistants, Players?
As a casual fan, I think the players like Bowles. The issues were bad offensive play calling, timely turnovers (Baker), antiquated defensive scheme, and the worst ST coach of all time.
Injuries were an issue and I’m guessing we have some bad actors on defense. Zyon, AWJ, Reddick seem to stick out. Reddick can be released and the others are case-by-case.
The simplest path to resolution is a new OC, new ST coach, new DC. Bowles needs to be stripped of his DC role. Start grooming the next HC. Let Reddick go. Sit the bad actors down and decide if they need to be traded or rehabbed. Draft to fill holes and add depth.
The most difficult path is to fire Bowles. I don’t think it happens.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:15 pm
“woke’ is tugging on these Glazers. They do not want to make a change….ok WHY!!! They have diverse plans for their bank accounts. The hidden woke want a comeback. They are just under the radar for the bottom line.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:16 pm
Perhaps the Bucs only have two candidates that they would want to replace Bowles with and if they are unable to secure one of those{Kubiak or LaFleur} they will continue with Bowles.
Since you cannot do anything other than a video interview later in the week that could explain this delay.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:17 pm
I’m in the Midwest and a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
For years the current ownership has lied to the fans with hollow promises and never deliver the results.
It has been historically a proud franchise with the second most titles in the MLB.
But they now are just reaping the benefits from past accomplishments.
Sound familiar?
And now they have switched into pure profit mode and the on field product has sunk to a low that Busch stadium looks like a ghost town on game days.
If the Glazers do indeed double down and refuse to course correct, Raymond James will also have tumble weeds rolling through it on game day.
The fans will find other things to occupy their time.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:17 pm
Adam Schefter don’t know more than these Gullible Bucs fans knows
January 5th, 2026 at 2:18 pm
I am reading the weak woke commenters on this topic….yep yall ready for a female edge???? Soft as a Bowles Zone.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:18 pm
I hear the comments about Todd having to bring in a DC. I get it, but if you think about it, I gotta say no way.
First, Bowles will never go for not being in control of his defense. So if a DC comes in, the DC will be DC in name only.
Second, if Bowles accepts a DC coming in, then that’s admitting defeat (in my opinion). That’s weak, and we can’t have that.
Third, if Bowles promotes someone from in house to be the DC, see point number two, but it’s worse than two because whoever we had on our defensive staff clearly couldn’t get things right or make adjustments.
Idk. I love the Bucs, as most of us here do. And I rarely comment, but I’m active with the Bowles stuff because he HAS TO GO.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:19 pm
The COLTS would be absolute FOOLS to can Shane Steichen. I’ll take him RIGHT NOW. What’s HE supposed to do… It was IRSAY, who insisted on Anthony Freakin Richardson. NOT The COLTS GM or Shane Steichen. HE is a HELLUVA, good young ‘up-and-coming’ HC. And, would be near the very TOP of ‘my-list’ if available. 💯 without a single DOUBT. I’ll take HIM. 💯 💯 💯
January 5th, 2026 at 2:19 pm
I really hope these Anti- Bowles Yahoos boycott the Bucs
January 5th, 2026 at 2:19 pm
At the very least, ST coordinator needs to be canned or at least demoted to towel boy.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:20 pm
Hopefully Atlanta will get another bad coach. It looks like Saints may be getting better, the panthers look worse than their record and the Bucs with Bowles will regress. So is the Falcons get a good coach we could be in trouble.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:20 pm
Could it be the Glazers are trying to work out some sort of retirement package for Bowles before making anything official. They could be telling Todd he has a choice, he can either step away with dignity or can be added to the list of castaways. Just because nothing has been made public doesn’t mean things aren’t happening in the background. Time will tell, sucks to be put in a position to have to speculate what may or may not happen.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:21 pm
I agree about Steichen. Thats the type of coach we need, for today and tomorrow.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:21 pm
At this point GRUDEN NOW!
January 5th, 2026 at 2:21 pm
They some disgusting backstabbing so- call fans anyway
Do the Glazers a favor, and get lost
Stay out of Raymond James
Go support the Falcons
January 5th, 2026 at 2:21 pm
My feeling is that Bowles will be gone, either by retirement or firing.
If I were a gambler, I’d say retirement, because Bowles doesn’t want to work for any other team, and I seriously doubt he’d like to stay in a situation as a HC if he’s forced to fire many of his coaches.
I hope we do hear something today, but it’s possible the Glazers wouldn’t pull the trigger on a change until they are confident they can land a replacement they feel is an upgrade. There are already six other openings for head coaches in the NFL, so there will be some competition for the best options.

Arthur Blank’s Letter To His Falcons Fans…
https://www.atlantafalcons.com/news/letter-owner-chairman-arthur-blank-greg-beadles-rich-mckay
January 5th, 2026 at 2:23 pm
@SlyPirate
I dont think Todd is going to give them the chance to think it over. I am believing more and more that he is retiring. From gaining weight throughout the season, to the team starting to give up after the bye. Sure a part of it is because injury, but the players wouldnt just give up. I think midway, Bowles believed at 6-2 that they only needed a few more wins to make the playoffs, and started slacking off/focusing more on retirement. The offense was also just bad. The playcalling, the play design, the timing and rhythms. It was awful.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:24 pm
Definitely need an offensive-minded coach. If they can’t get Kubiak from the Seahawks, I’d like to see what Gruden could do with Mayfield at QB in his offense with the receivers we have. Probably not happening though because he Glazers would have to work out a deal with Gruden to drop his lawsuit against the league before they could hire him.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:24 pm
addb nailed it.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:27 pm
GRUDEN…GRUDEN>>>>at least for a year to get BOWZO and Co out of here. GRUDEN NOW!!!!! 1 year contract. DUMP BOWZO or else.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:28 pm
When the Glazers fired Dungy and Gruden it didn’t happen immediately.
Let’s be patient and see what happens.
Maybe the right thing will still happen yet
January 5th, 2026 at 2:31 pm
We are in the window of “Yeah but maybe not “
January 5th, 2026 at 2:32 pm
I am a real fan we just didn’t have winning ingredients this year…not once did I watch a game and think we need a full blown rebuild at the end of the season except the game we made Kyle Pitts look like gronk and the rams game was straight health across the board not being where it should…canning bowles would set us back tremendously it’s not a joke be careful what you guys are wishing for..
January 5th, 2026 at 2:32 pm
I am waiting for the go grab belicheck or Pete carrol lol
January 5th, 2026 at 2:34 pm
@ BucsFanSince1996 – Retirement, or Fired… it’s the same thing in his case. Only just a technicality. Cause, if it was ALL 💯 ENTIRELY up to HIM… There is absolutely NO WAY whatsoever, that “RETIREMENT” would ever have entered HIS mind otherwise. Not a chance in HELL. NOBODY is just ‘walking away’ from a 3-YEAR FULLY-GUARANTEED DEAL, worth MILLIONS of DOLLARS. No. Possible. Way. If it is a “RETIREMENT,” then it is a 💯 FORCED ONE. No one is ‘buying-it’ that HE just “retired,” either. NO ONE. It’s just a ‘nice way’ of saying we appreciate everything you have done and accomplished here, BUT we will “allow you” to save face and “RETIRE.” You will still receive YOUR $$$$ over time, and can still remain a part of the team, but in a diminished role in another capacity!
January 5th, 2026 at 2:34 pm
If they don’t fire Bowles they better hire a better OC that could take over coaching duties because if Bowles comes back, and the Bucs start bad, they’re gonna have to fire Bowles during the season. The fans won’t put up with what’s been going on at the end of the season for very long next year. Better have that backup plan ready to go
January 5th, 2026 at 2:34 pm
So I can to go to these concerts and buy tickets, merch, food/beverages and parking for Eric Church, Journey, Evanescence and 98 Rockfest, and enjoy good music and make memories with my adult aged kids, or buy tickets, merch, food/beverages, parking for several Bucs games with my family, but you are telling me that the Bucs will still be led by Todd Bowles.
That’s an easy call.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:34 pm
According to Gemini AI:
Tony Dungy was fired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers two days after their playoff loss to the Philadelphia Eagles
January 5th, 2026 at 2:35 pm
It better be Jason Licht at the podium at 3:30.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:35 pm
We should know soon
January 5th, 2026 at 2:36 pm
Play this exercise…
How do you feel when you hear/read these?
Option A: “This just in, Todd Bowles is being retained for the 2026-2027 season.”
Option B: “This just in, after parting ways with Bowles X weeks ago, Tampa Bay is announcing their new head coach (INSERT YOUNG UP-AND-COMING-NAME).
Option C: “This just in, after parting ways with Bowles X weeks ago, Tampa Bay is announcing their new head coach (INSERT VETERAN COACH, like McCarthy or Harbaugh, etc).
Option A gives me a sinking feeling in my stomach.
Option B gives me an excited hope, one that is full of possibilities.
Option C gives me a safe feeling. Certainly positive, but not as excited as B.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:36 pm
Right now it “looks like” they’re keeping Bowles EVEN THOUGH he’s a Lame Duck..
If they do this, they guarantee another “LOST SEASON”. BOWLES HAS LOST THE ENTIRE LOCKER ROOM! And Explain to me How and Why the “PLAYERS” are all the sudden going to care? They are suddenly going to play their hearts out for a guy that THEY DON’T RESPECT AT ALL? Do YOU REALLY BELIEVE THAT?
What the Glazers ARE GOING TO LOSE IS MANY THOUSANDS OF FANS AND EVEN MORE IN MILLIONS AND POSSIBLY BILLIONS OF WHAT THEY “REALLY CARE ABOUT”… DOLLARS
January 5th, 2026 at 2:38 pm
@ AlstottNumber1 Says: “If Bowles was getting fired it would already be done.
There’s absolutely no reason to wait until the press conference.

That is definitely ‘the feels’ I am getting right now. Sounds about right!
January 5th, 2026 at 2:39 pm
I think the retirement angle seems possible. It lets him save some face and acknowledges that he did do some good for the team. And would we no longer be on the hook for his remaining contract if he steps away voluntarily?
January 5th, 2026 at 2:40 pm
The Glazers and Sir Jim Ratcliffe sacked Reuben Amorin this morning
Manchester United is their Bread and Butter
The Bucs are extra income for them
They are handling Man U business now
And you Gullible fans are wishing on a star, for Bowles to go
The Glazers could care less about what you fools want
January 5th, 2026 at 2:40 pm
This is exactly why I was rooting for the Panthers to beat us. I did not want any hope lingering that will somehow justify bowls remaining; and yet here we are starting to think that BOwls will be forgiven for another year. what waste and by the way, thanks for the 50th anniversary memories you toilet bowl!

Flash poll: who’s more annoying, @RodMunch or @Lakeland. I need help choosing?
January 5th, 2026 at 2:42 pm
I think Bowles the HC and the Bowles the DC will always be one man as long as hes here. Hiring a DC is saying he cant do the job, which is obvious, but will he admit that to the world if hes allowed to keep him job? I don’t think so.
One of the biggest issues I have with Bowles is the lack of competition on the roster and him having to many friends as players and coaches. He won’t bring in a better player or coach to replace a friend even if that friend is underperforming.
If he stays, what will change?
All of the mistakes he made his first and second season as HC, how has he improved?
If nothing has improved, why would you think it’d get better?
I’m still not sure if it’s mostly Bowles or Licht that wanted these draft picks. Hard to tell…
January 5th, 2026 at 2:43 pm
Flash poll: who is responsible for missing the playoffs, @offense or @defense. I need help choosing?
Last 6 games…
Defense allows 21.2 points per game, 10th in the NFL
Offense scores 20.1 points per game, 27th in the NFL
January 5th, 2026 at 2:43 pm
Glazers always take their time to make a decision. Still, if Bowles stays, they need to hire a DC and take play calling duties from Bowles at a minimum. Make the guy a CEO HC and go from there. Focus on supporting JL with roster development, conditioning, etc. If he can’t let go of the D, force him into retirement whether he chooses to or not.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:44 pm

@ Wille G SAYS: “ That’s why I want Gruden back. His offensive mind and his ability to motivate players + a slightly above average defensive coordinator = Super Bowl.”
YOU obviously don’t know of ANY other coaches. NONE of the modern day ones whatsoever, OR you are living STUCK inside of some very weird ‘adult’ Bucs Fantasyland. Cause, that is just SO ABSURD. Gruden would be LUCKY if he could even land a ‘bottom of the barrel’ perennial bottom-feeder “Group of 5/6 Conference” (if you even know what this means, by Group of 5 LoL).
January 5th, 2026 at 2:46 pm
We’re just going to wait for the press conference to find out. And don’t be surprised if they have the press conference and we still don’t know.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:49 pm
i dont know why anyone in ownership needs time to evaluate any of the coaching, or team, or performance. they have a 6.5 billion dollar asset, they constantly monitor it dont they?
everyone sees the performance on tv every week. they have the inside track on all the problems, the root of the problems, and the solutions if required for the problems.
slow and steady and not bold gets you todd and josh.it also makes you look slow and stupid if they make the fans suffer through another season of this after the last 2. getting dumped by the no punt commanders is seen as a great success compared to this years debacle, if that is even possible.
but here we are. mediocre old and tired.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:49 pm
GRUDEN is the answer. A shake up and shove out 1 year contract to clean out the BOWZO system and EE’s. GRUDEN for a year and a new dawn. He could close this disater out and fire the embedded Bowzo losers….Also find a couple good OC and DC to restart this team and dump all the old dead wood.
GRUDEN is the answer at this point.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:51 pm
Fire the problem. It is very well documented by “this Joe” and also by Scott R over at another Bucs focused website.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:51 pm
Melvin Junior you are WRONG on every level. Gruden for a 1 year contract and clean the house is the ONLY answer.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:57 pm
Maybe Gruden could get Dungy for 1 year DC. Gruden can find an OC someplace.
January 5th, 2026 at 2:57 pm
all this praise of the Falcons realizing what it takes to show winning mentality yada yada yada…. how many super bowls for them???
I have survived the WORST eras in Tampa Bay Buc history being a fan since 1977, and for those that are in same boat, you know what I am talking about.. THIS season we just had would have been a pinnacle of greatness in the early years!!
January 5th, 2026 at 2:58 pm
When the reports come out, we were still in playoff contention. You’re not going to add additional pressure to the staff and players with hot seat talk if there’s still the possibility the team could make the playoffs and go on a run. I’m certain they’re aware what’s at stake as it is. Now that the season is done, there’s definitely a shift in the confidence of Bowles retaining the job. The question is who would they be targeting and when might that person be available to talk. Let’s say there’s a coordinator on a playoff team, Bucs have to communicate discretely and do so around the coordinator’s coaching commitments. That’s the challenge I see with Bowles….is there someone that is A) an upgrade from Bowles and B) available to be interviewed/hired.
If they can’t get “their guy”…..I don’t see the Bucs running off Bowles and paying his staff while also financially committing to another set of coaches particularly if the person is unproven as a HC.
January 5th, 2026 at 3:00 pm
Will the Glazers create many FISH and JAG Fans by keeping Bowzo? I remember when we only had the Fish. Are3 they going to run us off?
January 5th, 2026 at 3:00 pm
Why do people keep talking about bringing back Gruden!! What did that dude do after the Super Bowl win??? It wasn’t like he was lighting up the league with the Raiders either….give me a break. I would rather keep Bowles than do that.
January 5th, 2026 at 3:01 pm
It’s also a committee of Glazers that makes these decisions and that takes much more time than if there were a single decision-maker.
My guess is some want to keep him, some want to fire him. They have to get in the board room and argue it out.

Well said.
People whining and screaming about being in the playoff picture until week 18, when you had massive injuries all over the place, and wanting everyone fired because what’s behind Door #2 must be better… none of them are Bucs fans, they’re just bandwagon riders that showed up when Brady got here, they have no idea of the endless abyss that actual Bucs fans have been through.

BigZ Says: “I agree about Steichen. Thats the type of coach we need, for today and tomorrow.”
Damn Straight 💯 💯 💯 I would do it RIGHT NOW, if I were the Bucs. I would give-up and trade a 1st-Round Pick FOR HIM. In a HEARTBEAT. Actually, they could really use the pick too, since they just gave up those TWO for Sauce Gardner. If they are seriously considering moving away from him, then RIGHT NOW would be THE perfect-timing, giving the weak-class of potential HC prospects/hires. They’d definitely have TAKERS. But, count ME in… I’ll Take HIM. 💯 without ANY hesitations. He’d be THE PERFECT FIT. Exactly, what we should be looking for.
January 5th, 2026 at 3:10 pm

@BayouBullet, interesting take. I always thought @Rod has autism and is clueless and @Lakeland has @$$ syndrome and knows he’s a d—k.

@ HC Grover Says: “GRUDEN is the answer. A shake up and shove out 1 year contract to clean out the BOWZO system and EE’s. GRUDEN for a year and a new dawn. He could close this disater out and fire the embedded Bowzo losers….Also find a couple good OC and DC to restart this team and dump all the old dead wood.
GRUDEN is the answer at this point.”
It is pretty sad and embarrassing that THIS if YOUR BEST option. And, that YOU obviously don’t know of ANY OTHER Coaches. But, I guess then, that would actually require WATCHING THE GAMES. I mean, WHY EVEN continue to comment, at ALL!? I really don’t get it. There is NO WAY that I would comment on anything that I knew absolutely NOTHING about. Like, you would NOT SEE ME commenting or giving any advice on Crypto Currencies, or Nuclear Science. LoL it is literally, mind-boggling.

@ HC Grover Says: “Melvin Junior you are WRONG on every level. Gruden for a 1 year contract and clean the house is the ONLY answer.
Maybe Gruden could get Dungy for 1 year DC. Gruden can find an OC someplace.”
YOU are a total TROLL. Just an ‘unserious’ person. 💯
January 5th, 2026 at 3:32 pm
I never comment but I gotta say I’m not opposed to running it back with Bowles if he agrees to bring in a real call the play defensive coordinator. It’s not a demotion. Dungy had a defensive coordinator while here an all they did was create a bring new defense.
January 5th, 2026 at 3:39 pm
@ HC Grover -Gruden was DESPERATE for the USF Job. They didn’t want him either. NOBODY DOES. Maybe, a local HS would be HIS best shot. It’s just THE TRUTH. You don’t have the first-clue as to what the hell you’re talking about and YOU ARE BEING EXPOSED when you spew SUCH NONSENSE.
And, I’m obviously a HUGE FAN. Everyone from my own hometown to right HERE, would come up to me when out in public, just to tell ME that I LOOK JUST LIKE, John Gruden LoL. Literally, have hear it FOR YEARS. So, there’s THAT!!!!
January 5th, 2026 at 3:40 pm
1. Pay him to retire. 2. Remains HC and gets a decent DC and keeps hands off of the defense. Also get rid of a few coaches. And just do the clock management. No wait…. 3. Fire him and his staff.
Dont know what to think of Grizzard. Did a decent job first handful of games then fell apart after the bye. Then he pretty much sucked.

Hahaha. Bayou Bullet bringing it strong.
Well as most of us know “Rod has issues”. However, he’s no dummy. At first I thought Rod was just running some schtick. Now I really don’t know. Don’t really read what he writes anyway. He has a Baker fixation. Ugh. Lakeland is just a dumb wannabe. He’s got nothing going on. Except he apparently suddenly knows something most of the rest of us do not. No idea where he came up with that. The insults are indicative of other issues. Good post Bayou.

@ Rod Munchies – I was born in ‘76, so I am partial to that year, to begin with… BICENTENNIAL BABY, uh, Baby!!!! LoL. And, my very FIRST Piece of NFL merch was a BUCS HAT. Spent about $400 on a CUSTOMIZED ‘official’ GameDay Jersey of Keyshawn Johnson (‘white’) at the very beginning of the Super Bowl Season. Have a Bucs ‘chips and dip’ helmet that I bought on the same order, that I still have. COUNTLESS, of other Memorbillia. My mom bought me a BADASS Bucs Sweater (grey with black zippers on the upper arms) for Christmas, & a ‘Players’ Sideline-Hoddie last Christmas, though I DON’T WEAR anything called a “HOODIE.” LoL I’ve thrown it on during ‘chilly’ late night store runs tho Hahah. So, NOPE… NO “Brady Buc-Bandwagoneer” HERE. Just a VERY PROUD Fan who EXPECTS ‘EXCELLENCE’ and a whooole HELLUVA LOT MORE than what we’ve been getting from THIS BUNCH.

I might “look like” Gruden, but I am definitely NOT as fat and never have been, Thank-God. He does have more hair than I do tho LoL.
January 5th, 2026 at 4:07 pm
It’s possible, like others have mentioned, that they are feeling out the alternatives before making a decision.
Yesterday afternoon I was 70/30 he’d be gone. But with no definitive decision it seems like the longer it goes on it’s likely to go the other way.
I guess it’s a scenario where they want to cover every base beforehand which is a good strategy.
January 5th, 2026 at 4:18 pm
If the Bucs keep this loser coach, then they’re going to have a lot of irritated fans, and will lose a good number of season ticket holders if what I’ve heard from a large number of them samples out to the whole group. Bowels is an, at best, .500 coach, and will never lead us to a championship. It’s obvious. The Glazers, after opening up about the other fired coaches in the Raise the Flags, don’t fire this guy, they’re going to look like the biggest idiotic hypocrites. It’s plain as day that Todd can’t get us there, so what are they waiting for?
January 5th, 2026 at 4:26 pm
does anyone beside me see whats coming they will keep bowles and hire raheem as defensive coord/ at that supposed to suffice for fans//NOTTTTTTTTTTT
January 5th, 2026 at 5:04 pm
Hey all, new here.
I’d like to add that while Bowles is the number one responsible for our play and should go, not pulling the trigger immediately doesn’t necessarily doom us. I think if history is precedent, the bosses are already looking at the market and trying to determine viability and cohesion or any possible candidate when it they think it can be done Todd will be sent packing at the next meeting.

SlyPirate, I liked your analysis. I think the Bucs are currently interviewing players to get the details about the coach and locker room. I also think they have identified individuals that are not committed to winning and not performing. Another point you made is that something has to be wrong with our defense. I believe that the scheme is outdated and flawed. The NFL has changed and blitzing every other play just doesn’t work. Special Teams coach must be fired, and some real backup offensive linemen should be added to the roster. Baker was running for his life while trying to make plays. Not a great combination. My gut tells me to keep Bowles, hire a real DC, add a rockstar linebacker that can cover, another corner, some real backup offensive linemen and create a real pass rush, we will be so much better. This has to be done via free agency as well as the draft. The key is to only keep Bowles as an administrator / figure head. We need modern DC/ OC coaches with systems that are indicative with the modern NFL. Based on what we’ve seen from the Bowles era, he cannot be allowed to do the same as he’s done in the past. We really need Bucs leadership to be aggressive and make real changes that will help this team move forward. I believe that we have many of we right pieces in place it would be a shame to waist more time, effort and money doing the same exact thing but expecting a different outcome.
January 5th, 2026 at 5:48 pm
MelvinJunior – Well kiddo, I was born in 75, and let me tell you the way things really are…
I don’t really have an issue with your take since you’ve already said no to other middling options. The issue is, I do not think Baker is a draw, he’s a hindrance to getting a new hot coaching prospect because basically you’re going to have to play him next year, and he’s going to be hot for a few games, then go into his typical mid-season slump, and then you’re hoping he recovers – and this year, he did not, he stayed in that slump until week 18, and even then he only put up 16 points in his best game in months.
What if the other options are just more Todd Bowles?
My point has been THIS year is not the year to clear house because of Baker, because of his contract, and I don’t think it’s a good pool of candidates. I just don’t see the Bucs getting one of the top guys. That’s why I’d just stick with Bowles for next year, because after that, I think you’ll have a much better chance of getting a top guy – instead of being stuck with another middling option for years.
And as pointed out, it was Baker who tanked the season. Those 4 loses in a row with 1st place on the line were 100% on him. If the Bucs got even low-end starting play out of Baker during those games, they got 4-0, they’re a 12-win team, and they’ve won 6 in a row to end the year and they’re hot.
The defense over those last 6 games were 10th in scoring allowed.
I know people think the defense is some huge hole, but the numbers don’t show it. The team lost because of one man, and it’s not Bowles.
To be sure, this is not an endorsement of Bowles, I assume he’d be fired after next year – AND I would have absolutely replaced him last year with Coen – something I said at the time. But I just don’t want to trade one more bad year, for 4 more bad years is all.

Rod now is the time to total reset.
——-
I don’t have a problem with that take – but the issue again is timing. Baker’s $42M cap hit makes a reset hard to do. Also Baker is too good of a QB to be someone you want to reset the team with – because he’s going to get you 6 or 7 wins probably, and you’re not good enough to get a top QB. So you’re stuck in this loop of low-end middling world with nothing in the pipeline to change things.
To me, wait one season, see if Baker has anything left next year, if he bounces back to 2024 form or not – and if he doesn’t, if Bowles doesn’t, then you fire everyone and do the full reset.
Now, if I’m wrong about the caliber of coach the Bucs can get, then it’s a different story – but I really really fear that we’re going to fire Bowles just to hire another Schiano after everyone else says no to the job.

They’re trying to SAVE LICKT, by allowing him a scrambling chance to see IF HE CAN land a legitimate ‘top-tier’ level HC real fast that would be a viable option… If NOT then they’ll just have to BOOT HIM, and find SOMEONE WHO CAN. ‘Someone’ who IS competent and capable enough, while also a strong enough CLOSER. Let’s HOPE that’s what they’re doing.
January 5th, 2026 at 7:08 pm
@ ROD. – why are you insinuating that “I” of ALL PEOPLE, would EVER ‘think’ that BAKER would be a some type of “DRAW!?” I mean, have you NOT READ “MY-Posts” BEFORE!? Not thinking HE IS A “DEALBREAKER” for (or would scare off’) any CONFIDENT ‘top-tier’ level HC, is absolutely NOT the same thing, as saying that HE is some kind of DRAW. Cause, I never said he would be. I only said, it JUST ‘ONE’ SEASON. It’s NOT that BIG of a deal. Hell, they can MOVE-HIM if they can’t stand him and hate HIM THAT BAD. CUT HIM, or whatever. It’s ONE-YEAR. You’re being waaaayyyy overdramatic.
January 5th, 2026 at 7:23 pm
I’m NOT DRAFTING a QB JUST TO BE “drafting” a QB right off the bat, anyway! I am ‘rebuilding’MY ROSTER FIRST, with a veteran or bridge QB on the CHEAP, until I find “My Guy!” I’m NOT banking on MY FUTURE in the hands of some ROOKIE QB, with a SH!T ROSTER. THEN, I’m going to POUNCE and make MY MOVE… At the RIGHT-TIME. I’m just ‘plugging and playing’ with MY VERY STRONG ROSTER, like Shanahan and McVay and some of those guys! I believe that it guarantees much longer and more sustained SUCCESS, especially with ‘weathering’ all the injuries of todays game. I will wait until the ‘right’ TIME, to go after ‘AGGRESSIVELY’ in drafting my new franchise-QB on his ‘rookie’ deal, WHEN I see him and am in ‘position to’ to GO GET HIM. That’s just MY philosophy. I’m building “MY ROSTER” FIRST. I’m not worried about Baker for ONE SEASON. It is what it is and I’m just rollin’ with it!!!! NOT an immediate concern. There are WORST options.
January 5th, 2026 at 7:23 pm
MelvinJunior – I’m not saying you think he is a draw, I’m he’s even more of an anchor than people think when it comes to getting a new coach. Coaches just are not going to want to put their future in his hands – and it’s just going to severely limit who is available. Again, I’m saying I’d take 1 more year of Bowles, as opposed to 4 more years of Bowles in some other middling option.
But if the Bucs somehow can get someone who isn’t a low-tier option, then sure, go ahead. I just have no confidence in the team being able to do that – and it’s not money, or market or anything but Baker. He’s too good to implode and rebuild the team, but he’s not good enough to actually win anything. No one wants that if they have other choices.

Enough of this Gruden crap. The guy hasn’t coached in nearly 10 years. In his last stint with the Raiders, they were awful and never made the playoffs. He had one great season with the Bucs. That’s it!! The guy is a washed up has been. Please enough. It’s not 2001 anymore

Correction. Gruden hasn’t coached in 5 years. Still a washed up has been though
