Smart Move By Dolphins Sure Helps Bucs

December 18th, 2025

Shady, but helps Bucs.

When Joe looked at the how the Bucs could win two of the three remaining games of the regular season to get in the playoffs, Joe had pretty much banked on the Bucs-Dolphins game next week in Miami as an L for the pewter pirates.

Why is that? Well, that’s because Dolphins quarterback Tua is actually pretty good when playing in the warm confines of Hard Rock Stadium.

Miami had won five of their last six games before losing in Pittsburgh on Monday. Combine that hot streak with a quarterback that has won 31 of 42 starts in Miami, Joe figured the way the Bucs have found new and exciting ways to lose each week, that Miami would be eating a W.

Well, shady Miami owner Stephen Ross may have saved the Bucs’ season. Yesterday it was announced Tua is benched for rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers.

Thank you, Mr. Ross!

Joe has always been a huge fan of tanking. You’re either playing for the playoffs or you’re playing for the draft. Anything in-between is just circle jerking and wasting time for the inevitable (losing a lot for prolonged years).

So by Ross pulling the cord on the season once the Dolphins were eliminated Monday night, may have set the Bucs up for the playoffs.

Rooky quarterback versus a Todd Bowles defense. What could possibly go wrong?

  2. Bucccnasty Says:

Rookie “backup” quarterback*.. if history is any judge, a lot…

  3. Let ‘em bake Says:

    Quentin “ 506” Ewers.

  4. Cloverstone Collectibles Says:

I would rather face Tua. Our track record facing rookie backup QBs is terrifying…

  5. Tye Says:

Rooting to make the playoffs KNOWING the Bucs WILL be publicly embarrassed nationally in the 1st playoff game seems pointless except to keep a bum of a HC!

  6. toopanca Says:

As the two “highest” ranked NFL Waiver Wire Priority List teams battling for a playoff spot, what are the odds that both the Bucs and the Panthers put in claims for Matthew Judon?

His playing conditioning should be more current than JPP’s.

Presumably, he goes to the Panthers based on tie breakers.

    Ouch!

But, I am not sure about the exact rules for the NFL Waiver Wire Priority List or the current standings.

  7. HopetheBucswin Says:

He will break some kind of rookie record in his first start. Tua is probably pistoft he really could have had record stats. “506 Ewers”, that’s hilarious, and sad. Fire over confident mistake prone clueless opposing qb loving Bowles! Immediately.

  8. toopanca Says:

To clarify the preceding post, the Dolphins released Edge Rusher Matthew Judon on Wednesday.

Obviously, Judon was buried on the Dolphins’ roster, and he hasn’t had enough production this year to take note of. But, he is the kind of guy that Bowles could scheme something up for at a key moment.

This is the time of year where even a potential play or two can make a guy worth grabbing.

And, as to Shady/Smart moves by Miami owner Stephen Ross, it was decent of him to give Judon a shot at tagging along on a playoff team roster.

  9. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

I was also thinking we would lose to Miami for certain, like 100%. Now it’s about a 50/50 chance of winning. It could go either way, which is at least better than a guaranteed loss like it would’ve been with Tua in there…

  10. Sly Pirate Says:

    WHO NEEDS SANTA?
The Ewers Family is getting a 400 yard 3xTD day for Xmas. Courtesy of the Bowles D.

  11. firethecannons Says:

No reason to think Quinn Ewers (whoever he is) will struggle. The Bucs will undoubtedly make this kid famous. He will set franchise records and will likely have a perfect game. That is how it works with a Todd Bowles defense.

  12. adam from ny Says:

when the schedule came out, and i did my analysis, i came up with 3 trap games…

i just want to list them here again…because the previous 2 were tough AF…

    new england
    arizona
    miami

and when i said this then, people said nah, those are sure fire wins

  13. Joe Says:

    Why not!

No reason to think Quinn Ewers (whoever he is) will struggle.

Ouch! smh Was only a three-year starter for one of top programs in the nation. Almost like asking who is Julian Sayin, or Dante Moore or Ty Simpson. Only Ewers had more games under his belt.

  14. HC Grover Says:

He will be the second coming of Dan Marino

  15. Firethecannons Says:

I’m pretty sure he played for Texas. That’s honest to God not looking it up. Anyway, the other three I know about all them. They are very good I was just being sarcastic. I really don’t have any confidence in Bowles soft zone defense.

  16. MelvinJunior Says:

Ohhhh, yeahhhh… Way worse even. Ewers was the #1 overall prospect in HS in his class like since his 8th grade year, or something like that… Already very well known and highly celebrated. Was the HIGHEST RATED QB EVER coming outta High School. So much so, that he literally LEFT HS EARLY LoL to enroll at Ohio State. Then, had that so-called “QB-battle” only with Arch Manning, was all. Honestly, I don’t know HOW anyone could’ve not heard of HIM.

  17. Mr. Barf Says:

Um..Joe didn’t we get Shoughed this year..now ya want 2nd’s?

  18. MelvinJunior Says:

He was basically, every single bit the “Bryce Harper” of football. But, hasn’t hit that level yet, post 20-years old.

  19. MelvinJunior Says:

He was awfully ‘banged-up’ though, especially during most of that last season at Texas. He is super-talented, so we’ll see what happens… Surely, they have enough confidence in him or they wouldn’t want to risk his future development, by putting him out there too soon!?

  20. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Who are we kidding here? Ewers will look like a rookie & the Dolphins will lose this weekend. Then the kid will shred this terrible defense next weekend.
    The defense sucks.

  21. MelvinJunior Says:

@ adam from ny – NOT ME. I was worried about all THREE… Even though, I still had them all marked down as WINS. I wanted to ‘pick’ NE to win the division as one of my ‘sleeper’ teams, BUT I just couldn’t do it! The BILLS were the only team I really liked going to the Super Bowl, outta the AFC.

I actually thought that Arizona could be VERY dangerous (which they still ended up being FOR US lol), and a lot better than what they turned out being. They looked ‘ok’ in the very beginning tho! But, everything immediately went all to HELL, as soon as they got screwed over in one game… Then, their head coach went NUTS on the sidelines during the next, even HITTING A PLAYER. So, it was OVER for them from that point on. He was fined and LOTS of people thought it was a ‘fireable’ offense and everything. So, he’ll surely be DONE. It’s shame, because I think he’s a good young coach.

Then, Miami AT MIAMI… Just ‘sounded-like’ one of those types of games to me, that the Bucs are known struggle in.

  22. MelvinJunior Says:

IFFFF (big-IF) the Colts can somehow come through with Phillip Rivers, & also Baltimore… I will have picked ‘ALL-7’ AFC Playoff TEAMS!!!! Though, I had Indy and Buffalo WINNING Their Divisions. Prob NOT gonna happen. I WANTED to pick Chicago, but everyone else on HERE, friggin’ talked me out of it… LoL. And, I ended up picking ATL instead, even KNOWING that Penix would get hurt… And, that they would have HORRIBLE coaching. My worst pick, by FAR. Shoulda KNOWN to take Shannahan over fricken MORRIS. Just Real REAL Dumb

  23. PRBucsfan Says:

Great back up QBs, the bane of tampas existence lol

  24. Muscle Hampster Says:

If only I could be confident in our team this year, maybe this would make me slightly happy

  25. BucsFan81 Says:

Bowles defense will make dolphins backup QB look like the next Dan Marino

  26. heyjude Says:

On the fence on this change, and I guess we will see how Ewers does against the Bengals and go from there. We play the same time they do on Sunday.

A lot of great QBs were back-ups before the number one QB got hurt, and they ended up being superb. Brady for one. Most recently Mac Jones came in for Purdy and did well. And could they end up putting Tua back in before we play them?

  27. adam from ny Says:

    young qb’s eat bowles defense like it’s a snack…

    tell me……why is that…?

qwerkie ewers is probably licking his chops, looking past this week’s game. and boofing out 304’s, while awaiting that suspect toad defense

  28. adam from ny Says:

yes i think i’m gonna call it a toad defense from now on…

like these dudes just be chillin’ on lily pads and sh!t…

of course i say it with affection 🙂

  29. ATLBUC Says:

Joe, please remind me of one article that you’ve written about a quarterback that our defense has the advantage over, that did not torch our defense! Not only will he beat us, but he will set some kind of personal record against us

  30. Nick Houllis Says:

not if Carolina beats us twice. I don’t want to go into playoffs and repeat 2022 Dallas loss. but X years in a row as division champs IS worth something.

  31. Hodad Says:

It’s great when you have to count on playing a 3rd string rookie to make the playoffs. We are such a power house. Glad you’re excited for the challenge Joe.

  32. J Says:

We will win the South (due to the garbage teams this division houses), get blown out in the NFC game but this will count as a success and we get to keep Bowles.

  33. heyjude Says:

MelvinJunior – Absolutely agree about the Colts and Bills.

  34. gotbbucs Says:

Sooo…coming out party in two weeks for Quinn Ewers? Kind of like the coming out party that every unscouted QB has against the Todd Bowles defense.

  35. NCbucfan Says:

    Hahahahahahahahaha

  36. NCbucfan Says:

Smart Move By Dolphins Hurts Bucs. There, I fixed it for you Joe. Would def have preferred to play Tua. Thanks for the comedy as always though Joe.

  37. NCbucfan Says:

If we can hold him to under 400 yards, that would be a minor miracle in my book.

  38. Chef Baker Says:

Haha what does that mean??? Our defense is so passive that we will make this guy look like all pro. Hope I’m wrong though!

  39. Curse of Gruden Says:

This is TERRIBLE news! We all know Bowels’ defense stinks against rookie/backup QBs. Bring back Tua.

  40. Bosch Says:

How mobile is this guy? Can he hurt us scrambling / rushing? Can he break tackle against this UN disciplined defense?

  41. Joe Says:

How mobile is this guy? Can he hurt us scrambling / rushing? Can he break tackle against this UN disciplined defense?

Quinn Ewers is almost as immobile as Kirk “509” Cousins.

  42. Obvious Says:

    Uh-oh

  43. BakerFan Says:

This Bucs Defense could make a decent High School QB look like a Hall of Famer.

  44. FrankDrebin Says:

Thank you? Are you kidding Joe?! How many times have we watched rookie QBs carve up the defense? You should have been praying for them to keep Tua in the game.

  45. Steve Jackson Says:

I’m thinking a mitch trubisky 6 TD game.

  46. NCbucfan Says:

Steve Jackson, yep. That’s what Mike Smith and Bowles have in common. Make average to below average players and rookies look like Gold Jacket dudes.

  47. D-Rome Says:

I’m concerned he’ll torch the Bucs like Derek Anderson torched the Bucs.

  48. 813bucboi Says:

kid may be named the starter for next year after playing the BUCS

    GO BUCS!!!!

  49. OrlandoBucFan Says:

Great! We get to play a rookie quarterback. The kid will probably throw for 300 yards and three touchdowns.

  50. Baking with Grizz Says:

    Really Joe?
    You think it matters?
    Seriously?😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤪😜🤯
