Bill Belichick To Tampa Chatter Surfaces

December 22nd, 2025

Arguably the premier NFL insider went on record this morning, planting a flag representing an official heads-up for Buccaneers fans and everyone across the NFL.

If Todd Bowles gets fired, said Mike Florio during PFT Live on NBC Sports, look out for Bill Belichick making a play to replace him.

“If the event that Todd Bowles is not retained as head coach of the Buccaneers, that becomes a hotspot for a certain head coach who currently works in the state where the Carolina Panthers play their games,” Florio said of Belichick.

“Mark my words. Mark my words. You’ll start to hear rumblings that he’s interested. Because he was last year. Because your buddy [and Belichick consigliere [Mike Lombardi] was trying to retire Todd Bowles last year, if you remember that. He was starting the rumor that Todd Bowles is going to retire. Todd Bowles basically had to come out and say, ‘I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about; I’m not retiring.'”

“Keep and eye on it because I think that’s one of the places [Belichick] would like to go. And we’ve seen the Glazer family make some kooky decisions from time to time about coaches, whether it’s Greg Schiano or whether it’s dumping Jon Gruden and making a position coach in Raheem Morris the head coach. … Just keep an eye on it.”

Belichick turns 74 in April and is very busy coaching the University of North Carolina and keeping pace with his 24-year-old girlfriend. But it is widely assumed Belichick wants back in the NFL after getting booted by New England.

Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht worked directly with Belichick as director of player personnel for three seasons (2009-2011).

Joe does not think Team Glazer would want to hire Belichick to replace Bowles, but the owners would be insane to not interview him and hear his grand plan, including who would be his offensive coordinator.

Not so fast. The Hoodie just signed Bobby Petrino as his OC. UNC is turning into a retirement home.

  2. TG Says:

    No, no and no!

Let’s get a guy under 60 for the love of pete

  3. Nicholas Carlson Says:

    No.

  4. Inwoodjeremy Says:

Todd created a circus before he retires in a few weeks. I got my popcorn and peanuts ready.

  5. Baker Bowl Says:

Bill Belly – HC, Bobby P – OC, Michigan Man Moore – DC.

How good does this staff think our young studs are? (hint: this has nothing to do with football players)

  6. buccintimeforchanges Says:

NO MORE DINOSAURS – NO GRUDEN NO BILL

  7. QBKilla Says:

If Billy knows anything, it’s defense.

  8. captivajim Says:

HELL NO !! without Brady -his record is terrible

  9. miken Says:

This chatter was brought to you by Mike Lombardi

  10. BucU Says:

Before Todd destroyed the reputation of this franchise this would of been a pretty desirable place to attract good coaches. Now? Not so much. Regardless Bowles is gone as far as I’m concerned.

  11. gotbbucs Says:

Only if Matt Patricia comes on as offensive coordinator….

    Seriously? Hell No!

  12. LynchMob Says:

No. Hard pass. How about an offensive mind for our next head coach? Maybe a Todd Monken?

  13. First Last Says:

If he can be a head coach without hiring his kids then maybe?

  14. Lightningvinny1 Says:

Kubiak , Diaboll, need an offensive guy,, preferably young unless you bring in John Harbaugh w his coaching staff,,, but we are not out of the woods with Bowles yet

  15. ElioT Says:

For the love of god, please no.

  16. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    NO NO NO NO NO!

    please! God No!

  17. bucsfan1001 Says:

I will stop watching and going. I swear I will. Please no.

  18. Couch Fan Says:

Im in agreement with the “Hell no” crowd.

  19. Saskbucs Says:

Only way I would take this is if he is by himself. Can’t bring his usual guys.

Bill you can be HC, overseeing operations, but we have a say in the OC and DC hires.

The one good thing about Bill is he actually crafts game plans weekly to expose opponents. Do they always work… no but he’s not afraid to adjust or to cut dead weight.

  20. TheBucsAnthem Says:

If you bring Bill in…..then you also get the crazy pyscho daughter aged girlfriend too!!!!

  21. Muscle Hampster Says:

Alright, here we go! Not my first or 10th choice but I’m glad we’re talking about it. Time to flush Toilet Bowles!

  22. Sal Volatile Says:

I seriously doubt that happens. I may be right or I may be wrong.
I think the owners have learned from their mistakes, to a degree.
The safest thing, in my view, they can do is to keep Bowles but hire a new DC with a new system (hopefully 4-3) and keep Grizzard.
    Then beg Baker to stay.
Then start grooming Grizzard to replace Bowles.

Will the owners do that ? Nobody knows, I sure don’t.

I am inclined to believe they are risk intolerant.

If the owners decide to roll the dice I think they will choose youth over aged cradle robbing egomaniacs with bimbo girlfriends.

A young guy would be less expensive as well.

  23. Stallworth Says:

    No! Please God NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  24. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    Nancy Reagan……….. “Just Say No”

  25. Ugo Says:

Oh god no, look at the clown show he is currently running at UNC with Jordan as his circus master. Whatever Bill had, scheme wise, he lost, discipline wise, went out the window when he let Jordan handle his professional business. Bill is done

  26. Freebooter Says:

Horrible idea.Todd Monken not any better of a choice. Need younger offensive coach

  27. Knothead71 Says:

Belichick’s record without Brady is 84 wins / 104 losses.
We already have a coach with a losing record. Why hire another one.

  28. HC Grover Says:

First ya have ta get rid of Bowzo….the thing that would not leave.

  29. Durango 95 Says:

The Glazers are on the clock

  30. Paratrooper Buc Says:

Not “no” but “hell NO!” Falcons turned him down for wanting to be the GM or have a big management role to what he had with patriots. I don’t see Licht saying “sure do my job and I’ll quit.” Also let’s be precise about the “hell NO”, since Brady left, Belichick went to playoffs once out of four years and had a terrible season at UNC. He doesn’t have the magic without Brady.

  31. FrontFour Says:

    NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

  32. BucsMinisterFuller Says:

    No Thank You
We need someone with a No risk it, no biscuit mentality.
    No more Defensive minded HC’s.

  33. It's Corn Says:

Is it possible Bowles actually did let it be known internally that he was planning on retiring after this season? Could that be the secret no one wants to tell? And why the players have less fight?

  34. Waterboy Says:

Which Bill Belichek? The one with or without Brady?

  35. Sal Volatile Says:

The next big question is; Will Bowles stay and give up the defense ?

I may be wrong but I think he would.

That Michigan job is a wild card. But it is cold up there and taxes are high and the pressure would be very high. And, he would be compared to Belichick who ain’t doing all that well.

  36. Baker Bowl Says:

    @Sal

His son is a linebacker there. It’s not crazy.

  37. MadMax Says:

    NO!!!!!!!!

  38. Deeboooo Says:

Ahahahhaha you Bucs fans are going to get what you wish for.

How does Saints ex OC Kubiak sound?? He was really good when he was calling the offense there

    Or an old Bellichek?

How about a washed up Monken? Ravens really looking good this year lol

  39. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

The conversation has started. That’s good!

Please get rid of Bowles or have him “retire”. We need to get younger and more creative. Soooo tired of arms crossed Bowles with no emotion and his “brilliant defense” that hasn’t done jack since ‘20-‘21.

    @Sal

His son is a linebacker there. It’s not crazy.
    ^^^^^

All the more reason for him not to go.

  41. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“How does Saints ex OC Kubiak sound?? He was really good when he was calling the offense there”

Convinced most fans keep saying Kubiak solely off name recognition, which is part of the plot to that Eddie Murphy movie “Distinguished Gentlemen” lol

  42. Bucs4ever Says:

    No!

    No-no-no-no-no

    Kubiak

  43. TheBucsAnthem Says:

The Bucs really need an innovative “OFFENSIVE” minded coach……no more defensive minded coaches…..no more

  44. theodore Says:

Promote Grizzard! Being Bucs OC is the key to being a good head coach 🙂

  45. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

We will also be out of salary cap hell – so let’s bring in some proven help in the trenches and let go of some of those “highly valued” draft picks if needed.

  46. Sal Volatile Says:

But as I posted earlier, I think Baker will determine what happens.

  47. BD Says:

    Mike McCarthy would be good

  48. Marine Buc Says:

Old Billy boy has lost his mind…

Allowing a washed up fugly 24 year old Instagram model to run/ruin your life is totally mentally ill, weirdo 5h!t.

I don’t want this old arse fart anywhere near the Bucs franchise.

Seriously – who is Billy B without TB12?

    A straight up nobody.

  49. Tom R Says:

    under 40 please!

  50. HC Grover Says:

The scent of Bowzo Number Five is lingering aroud the field.

  51. budlikedthebucarros Says:

say what? might as well get tom landry or Jeffrey Epstein

  52. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

Nowadays, teams that have Offensive HC’s win Superbowls and teams who have Defensive HC’s don’t.

    It’s as simple as that.

  53. Coconut Doughnut Says:

    Trade for Tomlin 😁

  54. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Oh Hell no.

  55. Deeboooo Says:

If this were up Baker – I’d see him voting for a coach he’s worked with before that’s on the market. commanders OC kingsbury is that guy – and honestly I’m not stoked to see him back in the HC chair after his stint with Arizona. Wouldn’t be mad as our OC, just don’t think he’s a great HC

This team historically goes after Defnaive minded coaches, but be careful who you all wish for, the good right now run the same scheme as Bowles…

  56. Tampa2ATL Says:

    NOOOOOOOOOO!!

(Bill’s lady friend is welcome on the pirate ship anytime, tho)

  57. WillieG Says:

Nooooooooo! Bring back Chucky but have him on a tight leash. Licht makes the personnel moves with INPUT from Chucky not on ORDERS from Chucky.

I always liked Gruden but I hated the revolving door at QB and didn’t care for all the older free agents. He didn’t appear to have the knack for it like Arians and Licht did. They brought it just enough help.

Or bring in Dungy with Gruden as OC. Yeah, I can dream.

I know one thing. I do NOT want some angry geezer who didn’t do a damn thing after his QB left.

  58. UGotRobbed Says:

    Please NO!!

  59. Tampa2ATL Says:

    Tomlin!

Keep Gizzo in place. Hear me out. Yes, Gizzo has lost his mojo since the bye. Still better than The Mustache in Pittsburgh. Arthur Smith is a walking meme bad. I do appreciate the laughs while he coached Atlanta. 10 out of 10 for unintentional comedy. My bet is if we gave Gizzo one of the starting guards back, he would be just fine.

  60. Bobby M. Says:

Our roster needs someone that’s actually “been there done that”. This team has zero confidence in Bowles and about the same in accountability. I think the selling point to someone like Tomlin, Belichick, Gruden is immediate credibility and a figure head that would run the team while allowing the coordinators to do their jobs. Gruden might be the one who still wants to call plays but that’s got some pros as far as keeping stability in the offense for Mayfield.

Tampa is a desirable spot….we got cap space and draft picks. We got a good blend of youth and vets. Our offense is loaded, defense has a solid core…we got guys that can hold value in potential trades. We need someone that’s capable of holding players accountable, I don’t think there’s any coordinators other than Monken that would fit. Arians came in and immediately had credibility in the locker room, he was aggressive but fair. It’s a business and every time we get these coaches the players love, we underperform.

  61. Fred Says:

On the other hand, I’m available.

  62. SlyPirate Says:

THE CURRENT QUESTION IS … Can we beat Miami?

Miami has won 4 of their last 6 games
Tampa has won 1 of their last 6 games

    Miami-Ewers scored 21 in his 1st start
Tampa has only scored +20 once in the last 5 games

    THE ONLY GOOD NEWS …
The NFL wants us to win this game because it sets up a big finale in Tampa.

  63. KnuteR Says:

Bill Belichick can be a defense coordinator and the Bucs should hire Klint Kubiak as the head coach. The Bucs should draft a new qb and let Baker be a backup qb or move on. Bill Belichick era is over as the head coach. The Bucs’s ship is sinking day by day. Captain Bowles needs to be fired soon.

    ^^^^^
This “old arse fart” is 100% in agreement with the above statement.
I was Navy but there’s one Marine that knows what’s going on.

Just having a little fun with an age old rivalry.
Being a sailor it would be inappropriate for me to offer an Oorah but the thought is there.

  65. Newbie Says:

Bucs had their next coach on staff the past two seasons in Coen and Canales. Would have loved Hoodie a decade ago. But this teams needs a younger, offensive minded guy that can work with Baker.

  66. Sal Volatile Says:

Just to be clear for others, an “Oorah” should be reserved to only the
    “Semper Fi” boys.

  67. Power Of Pewter Says:

    No. Just No.

  68. Tampa2ATL Says:

Confucius say looking backward distracts from navigating the right path forward.

  69. Todd Says:

Klint Kubiak would be a good choice, unless Michigan hires him first.

  70. Jerseybuc Says:

Sal what?!?! 😂😂keep radio then have radio groom grizzard for a HC spot.
Dude can’t even run an offense. What’s radio going teach him how to be mediocre and lose games.
No to BB no to Gruden.
Clint kubiak should get serious interview
Would the ravens really bounce Harbaugh ?
If so that’s no doubt the hire

    ^^^^^

I’m not saying that would be my choice or the best choice.
I’m saying Bowles has a couple years remaining and the owners may view that as the safest choice.

It’s all about Baker or at least it should be all about Baker.

  72. SB~LV Says:

    NO !
WTF is blathering that STUPID idea !

  73. Mhystc Says:

Bring in Klint Kubiak as HC. If Bill wants to come in it can be as assistant HC/DC. If not no. Bring in Kubiak, or Mike LaFeur for HC.

  74. dbbuc711 Says:

    Oh hell no

  75. Dave Ball Says:

    N-O

  76. MtBucsFan Says:

Nooooooooooo Tampa has always worked better with an Offensive coach! Just watch the dam documentary! It is literally history repeating itself. I love Dungy but it took a fiery Offensive minded coach to push them to the next level! Same with BA offensive mind! Should of never let Coen even sniff anything other than the Bucs HC job.

  77. Tom Petty Says:

For God’s sake NO to that embarrassing old fart.

Dan Orlovesky is an interesting OC candidate imo.

  78. Smarter than Joe Says:

At least the Defense wouldn’t be as soft as it has been for the last 7 seasons

  79. Lastbeing Says:

    Mike Lafleur please!

  80. BucfanDMV Says:

No one wants him here please stop with this …

  81. heyjude Says:

Noooooooooooooo! With all his drama, plus the fact he didn’t do well after Brady and Gronk and Jules. Plus, so many other factors.

If Todd was to be let go, we need a younger and more viable coach that can reach the players on their level. Kubiak, and others are viable. The entire group needs to be able to reach the players. No way Bill can.

  82. Baking with the next one Says:

    No thank you!!!

And for those Bucs fans that were kids when we won our first Super Bowl please stop asking for Gruden for a coach again. You have no idea what we experienced after the Super Bowl year. Don’t get me wrong I will always be grateful for his accomplishments in 2002.

I do love his You Tube channel. He will coach again. But please not here.

  83. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Just to clarify for the people who are math-challenged, since 2020 (5 years span):

    2020: 11-5 (Brady) (Arians) (Licht)
    2021: 13-4 (Brady) (Arians) (Licht)
    24-9

    2022: 8-9 (Brady) (Bowles) (Licht)
    2023: 9-8 (Mayfield) (Bowles) (Licht)
    2024: 10-7 (Mayfield) (Bowles) (Licht)
2025: 7-8 (Mayfield) (Bowles) (Licht) (Also, this season is not over yet)
    34-32

Licht Total in same time: 58-41
(Clearly, the Bucs would be total idiots if they fired Jason Licht)

Mayfield is 26-23 with the Bucs. There is no way he would have a losing record with us after this season, even if we lose the last 2 games.

  84. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Two reasons NOT to hire Bill Belichick:

🏈 Age. As old as he is, he will insist on a veteran QB and will not draft one.
🏈 He is a defensive coach. We win divisions with defensive head coaches. We win Superbowl rings with offensive head coaches.

  85. SB~LV Says:

This reeks of Jason Licht desperation, same MO that saved his neck when he brought it Bruce Arians… and he shares some responsibility for the current mess!
He DEI’d Byron Leftwich and Todd Bowels and has not provided the big picture vision he cashes his checks for.
I think Bowels has the largest coaching staff in the league. He has to have a clock management specialist….
    🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

  86. Pewter Power Says:

Hire whoever can help Jason Licht identify pass rushers because the man needs help badly

  87. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Todd Monken is a no as well.

    Nagy is the best choice:
🏈 He’s been OC for the chiefs for 5 years, so not a rookie OC.
🏈 Part of the Andy Reid coaching tree.
🏈 Until this year, every year he’s had a winning record.
🏈 Has helped the best QB in the league develop.
🏈 He’s only 47 years old. Still young as opposed to 65+ coaches.

  88. heyjude Says:

Buccaneer Bonzai – Good data to know. Absolutely yes to Nagy.

  89. Let em bake Says:

Joe mentioned it… if Bowles is replaced , I like Mr. Clean plus a top tier oc.

  90. University of Seffner Says:

Bill’s Hall of Fame days are behind him. Simple as that.

  91. MJ Says:

Todd is probably a better coach than we give him credit for he is catching all the blame but as a DC he is really bad, his scheme does not work now, it’s not fooling anyone and he’s not inspiring the team, his OC stinks also and acts clueless.
why did Rachaad bust open that long run? BC they were not expecting it

how about Detroit’s DB coach?- young, inspiring and on fire!!

  92. Bradinator Says:

The only way I see Bowles surviving this (provided we actually make the playoffs) is like the Colts did with Dungy. You get to be HC, hands OFF the Offense and get a real D coordinator to call the D (NOT any D position coach currently employed by the team) with an innovative d system the players actually believe in. If you think the players “believe” in the current system, then you actually the believe the strippers are “really into you” as well.

  93. Cleanhouse Says:

I say yes, bring him on. At least we’ll have some standards. No one can say he’s average or a loser.

  94. Tye Says:

    UGH!…
For the love of the game, avoid DC turned HC!!!

OC turned HC is the way to go since it is a qb driven league….
Rotate DCs every year but keep the offense and coaches in tact!

Klint Kubiac, come on down to Tampa…
Mike LeFleur, Welcome to Ray Jay…
    Todd Monken, Welcome back COACH!!!

  95. 813bucboi Says:

    KLINT KUBIAK!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  96. SB~LV Says:

MJ coaching is a combination of art and science, I am certain Todd would score 100 on the science if coaching.
However he scores very low on the art of being a head coach.
    Jets fans warned us!

  97. Rod Munch Says:

    Buccaneer Bonzai Says:
    Nagy is the best choice:

    ————-

    Uh no.

He ran the Bears right into the ground, was universally hated and mocked by everyone. I’d literally rather have Bowles for another year than be tied to that stiff for multiple years.
