Baker Mayfield On Pace For 3,683 Passing Yards, 26 TDs And 7 Interceptions
December 2nd, 2025A quick look at last year’s NFL passing statistics would tell you Baker Mayfield this season is playing very much like another big name quarterback did last year.
That would be reigning league MVP Josh Allen.
A year ago, Allen threw for 3,731 yards with 28 TD passes and 6 interceptions with a 63.6 percent completion rate. His 12 rushing touchdowns and 531 yards on the ground put him on a level to win the prestigious award.
For the 2025 season, Mayfield is on pace for very similar passing numbers — 3,683 yards, 26 TD passes and 7 interceptions with a 62.8 percent completion rate.
Mayfield also has a whopping 6.6 yards per carry average (better than Allen) and leads the NFL in yards per carry on third downs, a stat highlighted during Sunday’s Cardinals-Bucs broadcast.
Joe is not trying to make a case for Mayfield as this year’s MVP, but Joe is trying to highlight how strong of a season Mayfield is having, despite his passing yardage, touchdown rate and completion rate being way down from the totals his posted last season.
Joe is very excited to see how Mayfield’s regular season wraps up if Mike Evans gets healthy and Chris Godwin and Bucky Irving stay healthy, along with the offensive line — and if Mayfield cat get his left shoulder fully.
No, Joe didn’t forget Jalen McMillan, who will come back soon after breaking his neck in August. If Evans and Godwin stay healthy, Joe doesn’t expect McMillan to get much work.

If only we had more “Mayfield” in some other players….um, like not getting bored and others who loaf…..guess its time to replace some of them…..im working on my part, the draft…
December 2nd, 2025 at 6:44 am
Godwin is exactly what Baker needed. Surprised Chris is so close. I’d almost forgotten what a leader he is. And I sure haven’t forgotten what a leader Mike Evans is. I used to think we had the best 1 and 2 receivers in the league. There was a reason I thought that. Both healthy for Carolina dooms the Panthers chances of beating us. Be kind of nice to start scoring some points again.
December 2nd, 2025 at 7:03 am
If we can get those other two guys back then we need to go for the kill on a few games and get Baker 5 tuddies a game lol.
December 2nd, 2025 at 7:09 am
That TD number is kinda weak and a reflection of how bad our offense is with Grizz at the helm. Ya ya, injuries…
December 2nd, 2025 at 7:15 am
We might see all 4 WR line up one day, few teams can stop us. Our defense wont need to win games for us. We just like our defense to kick ass. We are favored to win all our remaining games. I think we will. Mike is coming back. Todd needs help coaching defensive side, they can read his coverages and blitzs much easier these days.

Meaningless stat for this season
Great for his career but….

Law of averages biting Baker on the hot cross buns.
62.8% completion percentage, woof.
I’ve said this before on here, but we’ll be in the market for at least 2 QBs next offseason. Someone to replace Bridgewater, and more than likely a 3rd QB. The who, how, & when we go about filling those spots is going to be undermentioned until it all starts happening.
December 2nd, 2025 at 7:36 am
Joe, you put out the Vegas line of TD passes for Baker Mayfield prior to the season. I bet the under. Looks like I’m going to hit. My bet on the under isn’t a criticism on Mayfield. He can throw under 30 TDs and still have an excellent season. He’s my favorite player to watch in the NFL.
December 2nd, 2025 at 7:36 am
Let’s get back to focusing on Saints nothing else matters this week

‘Joe is trying to highlight how strong of a season Mayfield is having, despite his passing yardage, touchdown rate and completion rate being way down from the totals his posted last season.’
A strong season? Yes & No Joe, and I’m a big Baker fan now. What I do see is a rather erratic season, varying from ‘great’ to ‘run for the exits’. Obviously our offense has been in turmoil at times due to our OLine ‘musical chairs’, to Bucky missing 7 games already, to Mike Evans/Chris Godwin/Jalen McMillan missing a total of 28 games so far. Baker’s obviously struggled at times because of those things, BUT he’s had an uncanny knack for bringing us back late in the 4th qtr.
We’ve got a better record at the 12-game point this year (7-5) than we had last season (6-6) or in his inaugural 2023 year with us (5-7). I personally credit that to Baker, because our defense has fallen off the ends of the earth. Our defense has folded like cheap suits in the 4th qtr FIVE times already this season (Bucs had the lead starting the 4th qtr of the Falcons game, Texans game, Jets game, Seahawks game & Bills game BUT our defense gave up the lead in all 5 games). That’s FIVE games we fell behind AFTER leading in the 4th qtr because our defense crapped the bed, and on FOUR of those Baker brought us back to a victory … in virtually the last minute of each game. So ya, far as I’m concerned, Baker’s the reason we’re 7-5 not 3-9.
And yet, he’s been struggling far too often, in almost every game. Part of it’s probably due to him playing hurt to a degree. Part of it’s probably due to the quality of the protection he’s getting, a less effective Running Game, and receivers who aren’t doing nearly as well as our receivers did last year.
But I’m convinced that the biggest factor affecting Baker is the loss of Coen & replacing him with Grizzard. Sorry but they’re not even close to being in the same league in terms of game-planning & play-calling. Grizz is a nice guy (aren’t they all), but he just doesn’t seem to have that ‘feel’ for the game that Coen had. I guess that’s the danger of promoting someone to OC who’s never called plays before at the NFL level. Or at the college level for that matter.

I hope our D plays physical this week. With urgency. With efficient tackling. Something we haven’t seen much of lately.
December 2nd, 2025 at 7:54 am
please god someone hire Grizz to be their HC

Elephant in the room is, some of it is the limitations he’s had as a pro QB his entire career rearing their heads. Holding the ball, getting antsy in the pocket which breaks his footwork down, which effects timing and throw placement. Canales had that line: “If you don’t want be chase by bears, then don’t hold the ham” I’m 100% positive that wasn’t for anybody but Baker.
Locking on to early progression reads, missing targets who may have their man beat, just to force a low percentage throw into bracketed/double coverage on the early progression read. Sure, it’s been chaotic around him this year with the injuries and all, but some of the chaos just comes with his style of play based of what he can/cannot do well/consistently.

+++++++++++++++++++++
That was Canales’s issue. And why the offense in 2003 would sputter at times with the constant runs up the A gaps. I was surprised he got hired away by Carolina, but that’s the work of their nutty owner. Never thought he showed much that year – Baker made him look better than he really was at his job.
Two years later, they are doing better. Although their win over the Rams last Sunday was more due to the pouring rain in Charlotte affecting a dome team quarterback. When was the last time Stafford had a game like that?
This spring we interviewed a McVay assistant that had play calling experience. He was my choice. OJT training in the NFL must be the hardest thing a fledging OC can do. If he gets a second year, he will probably improve.
Like Canales, Grizz has flashes, but is trying sometimes too hard. He looked better when we had all of our playmakers to cover up his learning experience. Getting Evans back will be huge.
Still – win three straight and the problem goes away. The numbers are against the Panthers.

Defense needs to be fixed or Bucs cannot run table until D gets much much better go Bucs
December 2nd, 2025 at 10:12 am
Not bad for having zero offensive weapons the majority of the season. And no EE is not a weapon unless he’s got Evans or Godwin on the field with him. Maybe next year but he was shut down as the #1 for us.

Your critique of Baker is flawed. You have failed to take into account that he has never played behind a very good offensive line so far in his NFL career. The Bucs have, at times, been satisfactory at pass blocking when the starters are playing. Additionally, he has been trying to complete passes to a decimated receivers squad that have dropped passes, ran the wrong routes and do not have the same foot speed that the starters would have which throws off the timing. Add to that, almost a new OC every year.
December 2nd, 2025 at 11:50 am
Please. In part due to the horrible sieve of matadors who’ve forgotten how to pass block causing injury, in part due to a rookie deer in the headlights OC who seems to have grabbed the game tape from 2022 instead of 2024, and partly due to the infamous Todd Bowles Regression Syndrome, Baker has faded from his hot start and is lucky he’s not throwing two picks a game now.
The Todd Bowleszo Clown Show is on full display.

Evans seems to take a seat after every other passing play, so in a 3 WR set, there are definitely snaps available for WR4. I’m sure Godwin will not play every snap, either.
That said, you can pretty much say goodbye to seeing Tez on the field again.
December 2nd, 2025 at 1:15 pm
“Your critique of Baker is flawed.”
Only flawed because it’s a critique, and not a run on of excuses that seems to be the norm reaction to ANYBODY critiquing Baker Mayfield in his time as a Buccaneer.
“Additionally, he has been trying to complete passes to a decimated receivers squad that have dropped passes, ran the wrong routes and do not have the same foot speed that the starters would have which throws off the timing.”
QB to WR is a two way connection, if the QB is struggling it’s really easy to place all the blame on the target to protect your idea of who Mayfield is as a player. That’s what you’re doing with this comment, and really didn’t refute anything I said.
“You have failed to take into account that he has never played behind a very good offensive line so far in his NFL career.”
This is a crock of you know what, our OL finished top-10 of the league as a unit last year and projected to be one of the best throughout this past offseason BEFORE we found out we’d be w/o Tristan.
December 2nd, 2025 at 2:01 pm
WBL is right! Does anyone believe Baker threw for over 4500 yards, over 40 touchdowns, and over 70 percent completion rate (4th QB in history of the NFL to do such a thing) without a top notch offensive line? This year his line has been missing Mauch, Goedecke, and Wirfs and Bredeson and Barton moving back and forth. But we’re finally getting some continuity back. And maybe get our top 3 receivers back. The cold fact of the matter is Griz and Baker, with the injuries we’ve faced, are our most valuable player and coach this year. And they are just now fixing to get rolling.

Ok, so according to you the poor offense this year is all Baker’s fault. It’s real easy to blame the QB in the NFL. Rarely do you ever see criticism of receivers that are playing poorly. Especially when they are way down on the depth chart

You think top-10 is good for an offensive line? That’s middle of the pack good and not good enough to win in the playoffs. This year the offensive line, with all the injuries, is not in the top 10. Not even close.

You know Baker won the week 6 MVP voting! In fact the Buccaneers won the week 6 ESPN Power Poll as well! It was an amazing time!
December 2nd, 2025 at 2:28 pm
The same Baker Boi(s) who claim Baker is 100% responsible for everything good that happens, are now saying his failings this year are all about how the team around him has let him down. LOL! Same typical Baker Boi(s) as always, which is why everyone hates and mocks them.
December 2nd, 2025 at 2:33 pm
The incredible part of his stats- is that we’ve often started 2 ROOKIE WIDE RECEIVERS. Both starting Wide outs being Rookies is unheard of.
IMO, No other QB in the league could pull that off.
Mayfield is really a unique talent. He’s blown my mind since he came to Tampa.
Cleveland’s front office has to feel like the stupidest people on Earth.
Honestly- they might be!
December 2nd, 2025 at 2:58 pm
Rod. It’s not close. Baker Mayfield has been our MVP this year. I wouldn’t have believed how this banged up offense could have scored enough points to have covered for this underachieving defense and special teams unless I’d seen it with my own eyes. And he’s just the dawg who is gonna drag this mess of a football team up to finish strong enough to beat anyone in the league. It would really help though, if come playoff time, our defense could force even one three and out. Or at least get a turnover.
December 2nd, 2025 at 3:07 pm
Baker has had so many spectacular ups and enough dramatic downs to make us forget that his long-term numbers are remarkably steady and consistently high, regardless of his coaches and teammates. Although many on the outside do not seem to appreciate this, I believe those same coaches and players do. The media call him “inconsistent” because his results are not always at the MVP level, but at the end of the day or the season, the numbers are consistently good. Some of his numbers are down from last year, although still very good, but his interceptions are also down drastically. I’m always amused that at the end of every season so many commentators say Baker had his “career year” and the next season he will revert to the mean.
December 2nd, 2025 at 3:47 pm
Mobucs. The narrative from the haters has always been Baker is inconsistent. Anyone with a brain that looks at his career finds out that he’s been just the opposite of that. He’s been as durable and consistent as any QB in the league the past 7 and a half years.
December 2nd, 2025 at 4:05 pm
Regarding the debate about our offensive line this year and last year for that matter, look at a few replays of a Rams game. You will see on almost every play pass protection that Baker has never had. The Bucs Oline decent when healthy, but they are not among the league’s best. Mayfield has done very well considering what he has to work with and his injuries.

Gotta be smokin or snortin something, cause ain’t no way you typed this out and thought “yea this’ll show’em”
December 2nd, 2025 at 5:37 pm
It’s honestly impressive how someone can look like a world-beater one month and then spend the rest of the season overthrowing open receivers like he’s personally allergic to accuracy. The offense has been so unproductive that you’d think the playbook was written on a napkin during halftime.
So congrats, I guess the projections still say “27 TDs,” but the eye test says, “Please stop making my Sundays painful.”
Baker went from “MVP candidate” to “Most Vanished Potential” real quick.
December 2nd, 2025 at 6:55 pm
Funny Ken, haven’t seen you here before. Didn’t you see the story Joe posted this afternoon comparing Bakers stats this year to MVP Josh Allen stats last year. Last year one of 4 in history accomplishment, 4000,45,70%. This year one of 1 in history accomplishment, 5 come from behind in the 4th quarter wins. It might make your Sundays painful Ken(probably an alias) but to the average fan they love all these all time NFL QB records Baker has been setting. Has alot of football fans paying attention to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who knew nothing about the Bucs.

When mike comes back, hell be the healthiest hes ever been this late in the seaon.
Hes only not playing for a bone to heal. His Hanstring and everything just got weeks rest qt the end if the season.
Mike has 140 yards and about to miss his first ever 1,000 season. Does that count oost aeason too?
Couod you imagine if he breaks 850 yards in 2 weeks of regular season and a few weeks of the post season? Epic

LOL! You can always count on these morons to show up with their nutjob psycho stalker messages about their love of Baker, and how he’s the true light of their lives.
Anywho, dummy, if you actually read what I wrote, you’d note I was mocking YOU – the Baker Boi(s) – I didn’t actually say anything about Baker. In fact I’ve been saying all year I think Baker is going to actually show-up when it matters most this year – the playoffs.
