Uninspiring Teddy Bridgewater

November 24th, 2025

What a rough Sunday night it was for the Kyle Trask faithful.

Baker Mayfield left the game at halftime with a messed up non-throwing shoulder and in came veteran Teddy Bridgewater at quarterback. Trask, the Bucs 2021 second-round pick, was cut this summer and sits on the Falcons practice squad.

Bridgewater, 33, the former first-round draft pick and Pro Bowl QB, hadn’t played meaningful snaps since the 2022 season with the Dolphins.

Joe was somewhat flabbergasted that Bridgewater showed little fire or excitement in his 30 minutes of work against the Rams. Joe didn’t detect leadership, and Joe was not alone.

Astute NFL analyst Chris Long, the retired Rams and Patriots defensive end, took a shot at Bridgewater on his Green Light podcast today.

“And then we got Teddy Bridgewater, who’s like a fever dream. Like, ‘What am I doing out on an NFL field, bro, trying to convert on third down?” Long said.

Long got no pushback from his co-hosts, former NFL defensive linemen Nate Collins and Beau Allen, the ex-Buccaneer.

Obviously, Bridgewater was inserted into a miserable situation. But he sure didn’t look hungry.

Hopefully, Mayfield’s ailing shoulder is nothing serious.

    Trade for Trask ?

  2. ElioT Says:

I think we all know what’s going to happen here with Bridgewater and Trask

  3. I Remember 21 Says:

He had NO desire to be out there and it showed. He just felt compelled because we’re paying him. Another terrible signing.

  4. Canabuc Says:

We can pick him off their practice squad and elevate him and cut Bridgewater who has no business on an NFL field and who had 1 highlight this year and that was a hospital ball to McMillan.

  5. Scotty Mack Says:

And yet, he had better numbers than Mayfield. Trask would have more desire and spunk but he’d be far worse!

  6. Bee Says:

Some people actually think this guy is going to get better going against the Bucs defense in practice. Oh boy. Must win game this Sunday. Imagine if Teddy is the starting QB when Jmac comes back…

  7. destinjohnny Says:

    would rather have JAMEIS

  8. OneAndThree Says:

He looked like a UPS driver that was pulled out of the crowd to play QB.

What an absolute joke to have him backing up Mayfield.

Only the Bucs would do something this irresponsible.

It totally fits with Toad Bowels loser mentality.

    Fire Bowles now!!!

  9. lambchop Says:

He looks like Predator with no predatory skills left

  10. SMH Says:

Bridgewater is just there to collect a paycheck. This is almost as good as Joe admitting that Trask would be better as the backup. It’s ok , you can say you were wrong.

  11. JohnQCitizen Says:

It was a circus and Bridgewater was just another one of the clowns. The ringmaster needs to be canned.

  12. Oldbucsfan Says:

What was Teddy’s deal? I’ve never seen him play that bad in his whole career. He isn’t notorious for this type of horrid play.

  13. LakelandSteve Says:

Bridgewater looked like he wanted no part of the Rams pass rush. He didn’t like the smoke.

  14. SBucs Says:

If anything, Todd is loyal to a fault, expect Teddy to get his chance to shine on Todd’s amazing season. So no I don’t think Todd and his BFF Jason can keep the Titanic mess they’ve created from hitting rock bottom.

A lot of these vets will gladly accept a check but have little interest in earning it. Bridgewater sat out of football for two years, what exactly they think he brings to the table at this point is perplexing. If he had anything in the tank some team would have offered him a nice chunk of money to mentor a young QB. Fields got $20 million per year and he’s trash. Bridgewater is out there going through the motions hoping he’ll never have to see the field. I’d honestly rather have Winston as the backup, he at least comes to compete and put something on tape.

  16. Winny Testaverde Says:

Teddy was more than serviceable once upon a time…but that was years ago.

He’s even said publicly that he rather be coaching his high school kids ( before he was suspended/booted for buying meals and other minor stuff ). It’s almost as if Bowles and/or Licht talked him into it. A reluctant NFL player is a player who’s gonna get hurt/destroyed.

  17. MelvinJunior Says:

When the tv-coverage cut to him while Good Ole Bake was inside the medical tent, Old Teddy looked SCARED SHEETLESS. That look on his face showed total FEAR. I thought it looked like-it anyway… But, maybe that’s just how he is!? Idk… I literally watched about EVERY single-one of his games while at Louisville, but I don’t ever remember him being like THAT, at all!? I never remember him having an ‘ultra-high’ motor and being a HUGE “rah-rah” guy, or anything like that, but I sure NEVER remember seeing him ‘look-like’ THAT before. He acted as if HE couldn’t give a care less. It’s such a shame.

  18. KnoxvilleBuc Says:

I was a little uninspired by the Bridgewater signing to begin with by the Trask trials had the end. Bridgewater clearly didn’t want to be on the field once he saw the speed of the game. His time has passed, he may give great help in film study but the field of play has passed him by.

  19. Mike S Says:

Turns out the backup QB needs to be able to play.

    WHAT A JOKE

  20. Mike S Says:

BOWLES EFFED THE MOB SPITEFULLY AND NOW EVERYONE HAS TO PAY THE PRICE

  21. MelvinJunior Says:

It really did seem-like the had to talk him to it… I thought the exact same. And, I have no idea for WHY!} Makes no sense whatsoever. Just such a JOKE.

  22. Rod Munch Says:

3rd and 2 and Bum Bridgewater literally throws a 1 yard pass. He’s awful, has no business being in the NFL.

Trask is on the Falcons practice squad, Bucs can sign him any time they want – and they should want to do so right this very second. Ballsack is our PS QB and he is not an NFL talent, but he can throw for more than 6 yards (not accurately, just further than) so that right there gives him a step up on Teddy.

  23. TampaBayBucfan Says:

OK…I’m looking at this just a bit differently….

Following Mayfield and trying to match enthusiasm is not an easy task.

The game situation meant the Rams defense could tee off on every snap.

As far as the 1 yard pass……we had been doing that all game long, so I don’t fault him for that.

Let’s see how he is after a week with #1 reps and starting vs Ariz…

Let’s hope we don’t get to see that.

  24. Bojim Says:

” I shouldn’t have taken that edible before the game.”

  25. Curse of Gruden Says:

Go get Jameis. At least he would give an inspiring pregame speech.

  26. Kenton Smith Says:

The guy has won more games than he’s lost as a starter in the league. I think players will help him and he’s still able to hand it off and protect the ball. Hopefully not need to pass too much. Where I noticed he will have a little trouble is he’s slowed down more than just a little. Doesn’t have the legs he used to have. His arm is still serviceable, his legs not so much.

  27. FortMyersDave Says:

I read thet Teddy did not even travel with the team and that he got into LA late on Saturday night due to attending a funeral in South Florida. This probably was not a good idea but does kind of explain like it looked like Bowles and Grizzard just went into the stands a grabbed someone to come on down to the field and try to play QB. He looked like he is washed up. Baker will play even if he is 25%, that is how it is. Will this be detrimental? We shall see.

  28. PriMech54 Says:

can you all imagine Jameis coming in with this second team offense and lighting it TF UP…? I can…..

  29. BucfaninMi Says:

There has got to be better options than Bridgewater

  30. Tucker Says:

Yup like anything about this team was inspiring you could close your eyes and point and hit something that look like trash it all looked bad not going to point at a backup that looked like the entire team played and say well that was the problem all of it is a problem.

  31. stucbuc Says:

Not to mention knocking out J McMillan….what a weird season.
