“The First Time He Yelled At The Whole Team”

November 7th, 2025

Tom Brady was not a happy man in 2022.

No, Joe’s not talking about Brady’s divorce and his August siesta from the Buccaneers during training camp.

Brady’s 2022 offense was miserable. He and Byron Leftwich couldn’t figure out how to average more than 18 points a game.

Many fans remember video of Brady screaming at the Bucs offensive line during a 35-7 loss at San Francisco, and former Bucs Super Bowl left tackle Donovan Smith looking completely disengaged and disinterested in Brady’s rant.

That loss dropped the Bucs’ record to 6-7 and, per former Bucs cornerback Carlton Davis, it was the one and only time Brady lost it on the entire team.

Davis, who will play against Tampa Bay in Sunday’s Patriots-Bucs game, talked to CLNS Media this week about playing with Brady.

“Tom was like a really nice guy. I’ve only seen him, you know, get rowdy when we was getting our ass kicked by the 49ers [in 2022]. That was he first time that he yelled at the whole team,” Davis said. “I was like, ‘Oh, sh*t.’ I feel bad for letting Tom down.”

Davis went on to say upsetting Brady felt worse than letting a coach down.

Interestingly, Brady imploded the following week in Tampa, losing two fumbles and throwing two interceptions against the Bengals. He was done.

Davis, however, is not done. He also told CLNS that he hopes the Bucs throw in his direction plenty of times Sunday at The Licht House.

Did we miss a helping verb in that last paragraph? Or, maybe I am just misinterpreting it. Did Davis say:

The Bucs SHOULD / MIGHT / WILL / CAN? throw in his direction plenty?

I ask because I’m pretty sure Davis didn’t say, “…the Bucs throw in my direction plenty of times…” Or, was Davis DARING the Bucs to do so?

I know the last paragraph isn’t quoted; it’s paraphrased. But still, woof.

If I remember correctly the O Line was poor that year and Brady was determined he was not going to get hurt at that point in his career. As a result he was unloading the ball to quick and his passes were poorly thrown and off target. You nailed he was done and he wasn’t going to risk it cause he really did not want a biscuit that was going to cost that much!! At his age who could disagree.

Obviously getting a divorce from a woman you have kids with, especially when she stepped out on you, is gonna take a toll. But as far as his relationship with the team goes, missing training camp was the turning point. I understand why he did it, a last family trip, it’s probably when they told the kids about the divorce etc. But his whole career there were stories of him not thinking he was bigger than anyone else, “hi I’m Tom,” and all that. Then you’re gonna skip camp and get in my face telling me to dial in? And like Football 1 said, you’re expecting me to be all in when you’re gonna dirt it every time a guy gets within 5 feet of you? It was a recipe for disaster. Plus I think by that point he regretted the decision to force Arians out after playing for bowles for half a season.

lol what’s funny is Patriot fans are over Davis being on the team. Why? Injuries…. Sounds familiar.

I say we throw this guys way all game. Sounds like he’s the weak link next to the always always injured corner on the Pats Gonzalez

Just run at Davis. He either won’t tackle, or if he does, will be hurt by halftime.

    Joe,

You always blame Leftwich and Brady for our terrible 2022 offense, I think the main culprit was losing Ryan Jensen for the season.

Everyone knows the one way to shut down Brady is pressure up the middle.

That weakness up the middle is why our 2022 offense was terrible. 💯
