Seems Unlikely Bucs Go Get A Right Guard

November 4th, 2025

The PFF tribe speaks.

Joe thinks the Bucs seem to like their three-headed monster at right guard.

In New Orleans, the right guard of the day was mullet-wearing Dan Feeney. Previously, it was Luke Haggard and not-that Michael Jordan.

When Jordon started at left guard when the Bucs decided to shuffle the deck and have Graham Barton at left tackle and Ben Bredeson at center, Jordon did a solid job. Then he got hurt.

When Jordan played right guard, he wasn’t as solid. Maybe that was because he had limited snaps at right guard?

The reason Joe brings up right guard is that Josh Liskiewitz of the PFF tribe believes in order to make a Super Bowl run the Bucs need to get right guard shored up.

The Buccaneers remain potential contenders if they can get healthy, but they may need to make one or two deadline moves to stay afloat. While wide receiver could be an area of focus following Mike Evans’ season-ending injury in Week 7, the more pressing concern is the interior offensive line. Tampa Bay has been without guard Cody Mauch for most of the season after he suffered a knee injury on Sept. 15.

One Titans player yet to surface in trade rumors is veteran guard Kevin Zeitler, who would be an ideal rental candidate for the Buccaneers. While his play has been closer to average this season in Tennessee, Zeitler was among the league’s elite last year in Detroit.

Well, the Bucs aren’t going to get a rental at right guard, at least not a decent guard. Cody Mauch is the long-term starter there. But Joe did a bit of research.

Per Spotrac.com, moving Kevin Zeitler would result in nearly a $9 million cap hit on the Titans. That’s a whole lot of cash to eat just to wash your hands of a guy halfway through the season.

Because of that, Joe doesn’t believe Tennessee will unload Zeitler.

Joe is still of the mind that the Bucs need a veteran receiver.

Hopefully Haggard gets healthy and stays healthy at right guard, if only for Barton’s sake.

Center-guard team work is important in combo run blocking, and it is vital in pass protection.

In the five games Barton has played at center, he played beside Haggard at right guard for almost three games with Klein finishing the third game at right guard. In those three games, the offense scored 25 points against the Eagles, 35 points against the Seahawks, and 30 points against the 49ers.

Barton next played center in one game beside Jordan at right guard, with atrocious play calling, and the offense scored only 9 points.

Finally, Barton played center in one game beside Freeny at right guard, with the offense battered by a tough game and a short week of rest, and the offense scored only 17 points.

And, if not Haggard, hopefully someone gets healthy and stays healthy at right guard long enough to build some effective team work with Barton.

Everyone’s got an opinion, just like an ….

Bucs need help by getting someone who can create havoc on the snap for the opposing QBs. DE or LB, doesn’t matter, Bowles can make it work. Just go get someone Licht!

Asante Samuel Jr is healed up and ready to play as of now. Free agent. He could be signed on a prove it deal at low cost. CB. Only 26 years old.

It’s worth signing him to a one year prove it deal. Get him in here. Get him hooked on the culture, and see if he’s still great.

Could be a longterm solution if he proves himself.

They will make a move. At 6 and 2, with no clear nfc dominant team, and with bakers salary ballooning next year ( assuming an extension), now is the time. A solid pass catcher, and linebacker. Can’t let this season get lost this next 3 game stretch.

  10. MadMax Says:

    LB and a great catching/blocking TE please…..

Hope is a dangerous thing in football

Put Zeitler on that line with Goedeke coming back and we will be able to run the football the rest of the season. An O-line is only as good as its weakest link. Defense’s game plans revolve around attacking a perceived weakness on the offensive line.
