Jacob Parrish To The Outside
November 20th, 2025Joe browsed through a story on NFL.com about overlooked players having really good 2025 seasons.
Though he wasn’t included, Bucs rookie slot corner Jacob Parrish could have easily made the list. Parrish is having a fantastic season playing the slot. But now, he may get a promotion.
Joe initially thought with Jamel Dean going down in Buffalo on Sunday that fellow rookie Benjamin Morrison would have that gig full-time until Dean returns, because Morrison and Dean were in a rotation.
Instead, it appears it may be a rotation of both Morrison and Parrish.
“We’ll play a couple guys there,” Bowles said. “Parrish is definitely a consideration, Morrison has been practicing as well, and we’ll practice them both and kind of go from there.”
As for Parrish having less snaps at outside corner than Morrison, Bowles was asked if he had any hesitation putting Parrish on the outside.
No, Bowles said, Parrish will be just fine.
“Oh, absolutely,” Bowles said. “We knew that coming in the door.”
Parrish has been damn solid in the slot.
When Bowles was asked for his analysis of Zyon McCollum this season, Bowles said the past two games McCollum has been “average” and that for some reason his play has dropped off from earlier in the year.
“He was playing great at the start of the season,” Bowles said. “A couple of things he’s got to work on when he gets bored, but he’s got the talent and technique. He’s been solid for us.
“Probably subpar the last two weeks – he doesn’t get a lot of action, but technique-wise, he can clean up some things.”
The way Joe saw Dean hobbling off the field Sunday and the way he was limping around in the locker room, Joe isn’t optimistic Dean will play Sunday in Los Angeles.
Bowles wasn’t reassuring yesterday.
“Dean is a little nicked up right now,” Bowles said. “If he doesn’t make any progress, there’s a good chance he might not be in there.”
Joe sure hopes Morrison can step up in a hurry. Drake Maye sure went after him. So too did Josh Allen. Why would Matt Stafford be any different?

Morrison hasn’t had enough work yet, gonna be tricky (as we’ve SEEN) to get him work during the season without hurting the team. You could well hang either of those losses on him

Bowles … ‘“He (McCollum) was playing great at the start of the season. A couple of things he’s got to work on when he gets bored, but he’s got the talent and technique. He’s been solid for us.’
I don’t know how a young CB with a fat new contract gets BORED, but Zion better get un-bored real fast. His play sucks.
Thank heaven Bowles is finally recognizing that Morrison is struggling far too often. Parrish definitely deerves a look. Hopefully Izien is 100% now & can grab some of those Nickel snaps.

That’s what happens to some players they get a fat contract and BAM! They start doing bare minimum until a real head coach threatens to trade or bench them. Seen it a hundred times in the NFL .

Bowles said McCollum was bored last year too, so it’s not the contract, it’s just him

One thing is for sure-When you play Rookies, they will perform like Rookies.

Players get “bored” when they are allowed to get bored due to inferior coaching. Flush the Toilet Bowle now!

I love it! Just keep moving them around, while making them learn even more of your over-complicated schemes. Throw it against the wall and see what sticks. What about using the players where their strengths lie? Geez!

At this point, Parrish opposite of Zyon makes the most sense. Benjamin Morrison is always going to have that target on him and he’s been apart of too many coverage busts/lapses. If we were 9-2/8-3, sure put him out there and live with what happens.
We need to spark a run to end this season strong, and I’d rather us field the best 11 available than trying to work Morrison in to justify his draft status. I’d feel much better about our chances moving forward with Parrish lining up at RCB with Tykee over the top.

Thanks, lt. Dan. I’m no football guru, but when I saw our nose tackle dropping into coverage it became clear.
