Jacob Parrish Confident If Moved Outside

November 23rd, 2025

Ready for a challenge.

Joe is going to guess that next year Jacob Parrish will be a starting outside cornerback.

As good as Parrish is, why waste him at slot corner?

We may get a preview tonight.

With the Bucs down their best corner in Jamel Dean, Bucs coach Todd Bowles last week all but said Parrish, who is usually the team’s slot corner, may play outside corner in place of or along with fellow rookie Benjamin Morrison.

In recent weeks, teams have been targeting Morrison a lot. Part of that is that Morrison is a rookie, and because Morrison is working through growing pains.

Parrish said if he plays outside, he’s ready to be targeted because that’s what NFL teams do: target rookies.

Just look at Morrison, he said.

“We’re rookies,” Parrish said. “So you know they’re gonna try to pick on you, so you got to stand your ground.

“I feel like I was always taught, man, there are gonna be good plays and bad plays in football. You’ve got to move on to next play, especially at the corner position.

“It’s always about the next play. So that’s how I approach it. You embrace that. So, that’s how I approach it. You embrace that.”

In fact, Parrish said he’s looking forward to prove he can hang at outside corner with perhaps the best team in the NFL. If he plays outside.

“I’m always looking for a challenge, man,” Parrish said. “I’m confident anywhere on the field.

“You know, I take my preparation very seriously, so you know that allows me to play nickel and corner.”

If Parrish can play on the outside like he can in the slot, Bucs fans have nothing to worry about. But Parrish will have to play better than he did there early this season when Dean was hurt. If Parrish can play strong football tonight, Joe would wager he’s starting on the outside next season.

Future Ring of Honor player, Jacob Parrish. Full faith and confidence in him.

I hope Parrish locks down his responsibilities. My fear is that Todd will still put Morrison in every other series and he will get exposed again like he was vs the Pats and Bills. I know Bowles had no choice last week with Morrison due to the Dean injury but why on Earth did he let the kid twist in the wind vs the Pats when he got burned for several plays in a row, a couple that were big yard gains when he could have simply put Dean in. That was not pre-season and it cost the Bucs a W. Good luck to Parrish, he seems to have a good football IQ and hopefully he earns a spot as starting outside QB. Nothing against Morrison but as Parrish was getting reps and work in preseason and the early part of the season Benjie M. was injured. If you cannot contribute on the field, you are not worth a 2nd round pick……

I think Morrison is going to be okay but Parrish sure looks like a rock star. Not sure about the importance of the distinction between corner and nickel though. Ronde was amazing in both positions. Pretty sure Jacob will be as well. In today’s NFL, how often do you not see the need to have a nickel on the field? I don’t think alternating between these two positions is like switching between RT and LT.

Parrish is doing well, keep it going. He has the confidence to be placed anywhere.

The Bucs pre-season secondary looked promising with the new draft additions and a healthy Dean , Winfield, Smith and McCollum.
A healthy Kancey and Vea were going to provide the inside pressure so Diaby and Reddick could use their speed to provide outside pressure.
Well, just like the OLine injuries and injuries to receivers have screwed up the Offense, and just when offense is getting somewhat healthier, in addition to Kancey out most of year, now Vea has seemingly a back issue, Dean has a hip, Morrison has a hamstring and Reddick has an ankle.
Bucs just don’t have great depth on DLine, so without pressure, the promising season is in peril.

Parrish is a stud with great instincts.

  7. Hodad Says:

He’ll be tested tonight, that’s for sure!

He was one of the rookies I’ve kept an eye on since he got here. I was right; he’s turning into a terror. C’mon Jacob, pick6!! And go Bucs, sneak out a win against an over-confident bunch of Rams. Watch out for the refs.

  9. Pewter Power Says:

Sooo we’re saying bring in a back up to face their leading receiver so Parrish can play the outside? Who TF is this back up that will lock down Puka Nacua?

  10. FootBall1 Says:

I really like Parrish. He shows up on the field. Hopefully he can play outside. Yes remember he is a rookie, however, does not play like one in the slot. Can he transfer that to the outside. I think so. I think Morrison will be good too, but needs time to develop. Remember Ronde had his issues before he devloped into one of the best corners ever. Hoefully Parrish and Morrison can replace Dean and McCollum. I don’t know why but McCollum has not gotten better and is trending the other way it appears. Dean, this year, really good, but injured way to often to be effevtive consistently. This defense needs a serious overhaul and I believe Parrish and Morrison might be the first steps for the secondary.

  11. Oldbucsfan Says:

He look better than any other db on our team.

  12. Todd Says:

Going up against Adams and Nacua Jacob will find out where he is tonight.

  13. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

I’m hearing we’re going with Vildor at Nickel, but I wouldn’t be mad at seeing Izien rotated in at that spot. We’re going to need Winfield & Smith to play well for us tonight too. They’re the lid we’ll need to keep on this Rams offense.

  14. SBucs Says:

I expect a bloodbath tonight. Todd plays a stubborn antiquated defense of the last decade against teams playing future offenses, plus Jason is a so so draft genius and so hasn’t built a deep bench.

  15. Old Florida is GOAT Says:

Parrish plays with the physicality on defense we need.

  16. Rod Munch Says:

As good as Parrish is, why waste him at slot corner?

    ———-

Most teams put their best WRs in the slot – he’s not wasted there. With that said, if you just mean only playing slot – so he’s on the sideline in base defense, then yeah, I agree, get him reps outside and let him play.

At the same time, I know people are down on Morrison, but it’s way too early to give up on him. Still, let them compete, see who wins.

  17. unbelievable Says:

Come on folks, we already know what will happen.

One of our starting DBs is down, so Bowles will call a super soft zone on almost every play all night and let stafford sit back and throw for 400 yards. It’s Amazing anyone still deludes themselves into thinking Todd knows how to game plan around injuries to his starters.

  18. BucVoyager Says:

A quick look at the injury list tells the story. Put your children to bed. This kind of violence should not be shown to kids.
