Good News For Bucs Defensive Backs

November 13th, 2025

So Buffalo is next on the Bucs’ schedule, a team whose fans largely believe they support one of the worst receiving corps in the NFL and a passing game that was further weakened when its top target blew a hamstring last Sunday.

That top target is tight end Dalton Kincaid. He didn’t practice yesterday and folks in Buffalo don’t expect him to play Sunday.

Second-year receiver Keon Coleman, a second-round pick last year, has been a disappointment. After a big Week 1, he hasn’t hit 50 yards receiving in a game since. Their top yardage receiver is Khalil Shaker (45 catches, 457 yards and 3 touchdowns), who is nursing a bad ankle (limited in practice yesterday) and not exactly a guy on fantasy teams nationwide.

Veteran receiver Curtis Samuel is on their roster but is washed out, not the guy fans remember in Carolina and Washington.

The Bills have gotten so desperate, they signed former Chiefs standout Mecole Hardman this week. The receiver was on the Packers’ practice squad earlier this year but was cut in September. It’s unknown if he’ll be activated for Sunday.

Despite their glaring screwups Sunday, Joe is optimistic about what the Bucs defense can do against the Bills on Sunday.

    Please D, no loafing.

  2. bucnjim Says:

Bills are a running team. They only pass when they absolutely have to. Look for Cook & Josh Allen to control the clock with short passes and runs. If the Bucs are doing the same bend but don’t break then look for a huge time of possession difference in favor of the Bills. Now if they can force field goals the game should remain close.

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Tighten up on WRs….stop with the cushions….jam at the line ….

  4. Todd Says:

I believe the Bills still have Josh Allen, wait I checked and they still have Allen.

  5. jimmy Says:

i dont expect the bucs defense to have a good game in a hostile stadium with hostile weather against the top rushing team in the league. too flakey. plus vita not 100% is another strike. wont be surprised to see coleman or someone else have a career day.

  6. Bradinator Says:

The first outside flair pass to Cook will likely be a touchdown. Cook is the problem, not the WRs. Our “system” will find a way to make some nobody look like a hero. Gotta contain Allen and Cook that’s all there is to it.

  7. FootBall1 Says:

I don’t know Joe, I am still reeling after last week’s loss. That game was depressing. With that said, last week the Patriots were missing both their best receiver and running back. Well we all saw how that panned out!!. Right now I don’t have much hope until I see otherwise. The Bucs have a huge problem at MLB, and the offense just does not have the weapons. The bright spot to me now is seeing Tez Johnson emerge. Yep that is the bright spot. I really also look forward to Godwin getting back on the field. Yes I don’t expect a whole lot, he has not played so his timing will suffer for a while. However, just to see him make it back would be great!!!. He is such a good guy and works so hard.
Anyway, yes right now I am a little pessimistic. I have little faith in the Bucs beating Buffalo and may get blown out by the Rams. Car. is a toss up. The Cardinals?, well yes we could win that, maybe

  8. 813bucboi Says:

i think the defense will have a big day…they’ll stuff the run and create a couple TOs and have a few sacks…

not too concerned with the defense…

offensively is where the issue lies!!!…

in windy rainy 40 degree weather, will Grizz stick to the run or will he want to “attack” the secondary and have baker throw 40+ times?

will he continue using his predictable 11 personnel formations or will he break trends and tendencies and use 12 & 21 personnel?

    STEP UP Grizz!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  9. 813bucboi Says:

    defense will bounce back…

offense has a big question mark?

will Grizz continue using his predictable 11 personnel formations or will he break trends and tendencies and use 12 & 21 personnel?

    GO BUCS!!!!

  10. Jmarkbuc Says:

Would it be to talk about how strong our team is instead of how weak the other team is.

This feels like another Bucs blunder waiting to happen.

  11. jcscycles Says:

I think we actually have a better chance vs Bills then we did with the Patriots. Its always about matchups. And overall we stop the run well. We just need to play more aggresvely on defense.

I think with the Patriots you are looking at this years Super Bowl Champions. Bills, not so much.

    Go Bucs!

  12. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Fans struggling to ID the difference between what the scheme is supposed to do versus player lapses within the scheme allowing big plays against us. Just here to point that out, because some of the comments seem to be shots in the dark to be honest.

  13. Kgh4life Says:

I think Bowles will try to implement the same scheme had against the 49ers to slow down cook. In that game he bottled up mccaffery and it worked. The only problem is Josh Allen’s ability to run.

  14. Noclu4u Says:

I want to see the bucs carry the the ball 35 times.

  15. David Says:

The defense plays like they have the last three weeks, aside from the three big play they gave up to New England, they will be fine. But I would not overlook Shaker. He is shifty and elusive like TEZ just a little bigger.
The key to the game is James Cook. Take him out and hopefully our offensive line can hold up enough for the offense to win the game.

  16. Bojim Says:

I have a bad feeling it wont matter. 🙁

  17. Saskbucs Says:

This doesn’t make it better but NE didn’t have a #1 RB and #1 WR out. If Shepard goes down, it’s like us saying we lost our #2 WR.

Those guys have those labels due to opportunity and circumstance. Henderson > Stevenson. Would have loved to see fumbles back there. Boutte.. ? Who? Yeah having a good year but put Hollins on his routes and probably no difference. These are all just guys on the Pats but Maye is legit and Vrabel is a good coach.

  18. Tucker Says:

Fans aren’t failing to identify anything they see what’s in front of their eyes if coverage busts are constantly happening than the scheme is too complicated for the players you have and the coach needs adjust the scheme to what strength the players on the roster have cuz ain’t no one coming to save this team after the trade deadline. If Detroit manages to do it then the bucs should be able to as well if the coaches are worth anything.

  19. OneAndThree Says:

Bet against the Bucs anytime a playoff caliber team is the opponent.

You’ll clean up enough to go to the SB.

And no, Bowles will not be there.

  20. larrd Says:

If they can limit James Cook to just three 70+ yard touchdown jaunts they have a real chance.

  21. Bartow Buc Says:

The last time the Bucs played the Bills in Buffalo, the game came down to CG 14 missing a Hail Mary pass in the end zone which if caught, would have won the game.
I agree with jcsickles in the above post that our Bucs have a good chance to win this contest. I compare it to the Buccaneers traveling to Seattle after losing to the Eagles. They hung with Sam Darnold and won a very difficult game. If the Bucs can do that, we can certainly travel to Buffalo and defeat Josh Allen and the Bills !!

    We have to believe!!

Go Bucs !! Beat the Bills !!

  22. Buc1987 Says:

    TBBF…you’re dreaming again. Wake up!

  23. Brooks Says:

Ew England had best 2 starters on offense out look what happened!! Allen will have all day to pick us apart

  24. darengibo Says:

So what you are saying is Josh Allen goes for 380 and 4 TDs to WR and 1 TD to TE.

  25. ElioT Says:

Has anyone looked at the official stats for this team? Outside of Baker and Dean, it’s extremely depressing.

  26. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

This article/mindset prob means that Josh Allen will throw for 400 yards and 5 TD’s against us this week. Thanks, Joe!

  27. Lightningvinny1 Says:

I’m a Bucs/Bills fan (more Bucs ) but if we commit to running , we will win ,,, and don’t give me the hostile environment ,, pretty sure winning in Seattle means we can play anywhere ,,, being a fan of both the Bills need it more cause the Bucs are -850 to win division and Bills are +180 and dropping ,,, last Sunday wasn’t great for me

  28. mj Says:

cook will bust off 50yd runs with ease, don’t take buffalo lightly they are pissed

  29. Smarter than Joe Says:

When your DB’s are lined up 10-15 yards away it makes it harder on the d line, easier on the qb and easier on the receivers

Allen will shred this soft d

  30. Ugo Says:

We are 6-3 and finally getting healthier and people here are acting like we are 2-7. Buffalo got spanked by the Dolphins and the Falcons this year, they are not the Bills of the last few years. This is a winnable game, the Seahawks are a better team than the Bills and we beat them.

  31. HopetheBucswin Says:

Jeez, wonder how many buffaloose players will have career games Sunday. Go Bowles gaping hole defense!

  32. Billy Bucco Says:

Sooooo I’m guessing Mecole Hardman has 9 rec 150yds and 2 TDs
And James Cook can beat us by himself after what I saw last week.

  33. Anyhony Says:

WE were down six offensive starters and only lost by a score, anything is possible.

  34. Cybersecurity_intern Says:

We will lose because our HC sucks, thats what we will do.

  35. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

For all of the games except last week, I refused to predict an outcome. Last week I predicted a win and we lost.

So I’m making no more predictions.

However, I will say out of the next two games, this one is the most winnable if we can pull it off.

  36. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I’d like to add…as much as I love this website, the constant lack of team spirit among fans is tiring. I may steer clear soon.

  37. Mike Says:

Bucs better improve their run gaps after last game.

  38. unbelievable Says:

After a big Week 1, he hasn’t hit 50 yards receiving in a game since. Their top yardage receiver is Khalil Shaker (45 catches, 457 yards and 3 touchdowns), who is nursing a bad ankle (limited in practice yesterday) and not exactly a guy on fantasy teams nationwide.

I’ll bet you that both of them go for over 60 yards on Sunday.

Speaking of our defensive backs, have any of them learned how to take a proper tackling angle yet? Or is James Cook going to rip off 150+ yards against us?

  39. garbs65 Says:

listen, we’re talking about the Buc’s. Top receiving core in the NFL or the worst receiving core, it doesn’t matter, they will have success against the Buc’s because we tend to play down to the competition. I hope I am way off and we shut whatever passing game they have down. But if their offensive coordinator is creative, he’ll draw something up that’s successful and we’ll all be scratching our heads. Josh Allen will probably have his highest scrambling/run yards of his career. If Baker is not on…it will be a long game. Go Buc’s!

  40. orlbucfan Says:

nnnnnnnnnHey, Bonzai.BBBBBBBB Look at all the problems I’m having posting.99999999999999I’m already bailing.cccccccccccccc

  41. Obvious One Says:

    @ Tucker….
Spot on! Some refuse to just call it, like it simply IS… It’s really not complex. No worries brothers and sisters, your Eyes Aren’t Lying!

    @feeble
Attempting to wrap “4x MASSIVE BLOWN COVERAGES” on one guy is what “some poor fool” is attempting to do. As well as some are claiming veiws are confused between scheme and player? HUH…. LOL IDTS! So tell me genius, who IS responsible for player performance AND scheme? LOL!!!

After we Gave Up 4x OVER 50 yard plays! (That happens to be “OVER 200 YARDS” Lost to the opponent in 4 PLAYS!….. IN ONE GAME!) Player? Scheme? Only ONE GUY in charge of BOTH!

NO TEAM! No TEAM has played so poorly in OVER 100 YEARS! And “Someone” wants to stand up for that? LOL! well sure… you’re the brightest bulb in the OLD FACTORY…

    Me? I EXPECT BETTER!

  42. Jerseybuc Says:

Buffalo about to get right against bowels weak defense

  43. Obvious One Says:

Our defense IS NOT WEAK…! Our defense IS strong. We maybe not quite right at this moment, but do yourself a favor and Do Not be the ultimate fool because the next thing you know, our defense WILL TROMP ANY offense out there!

They WILL get better. They are ONLY on restriction right now. If they blow massively again, then IDK.. But for now, I wouldn’t be counting us out too quickly if I were you. We are ABSOLUTELY BETTER than we’ve played this last game!

It flows from the top down. We will see.
