BSPN: Bucs Should Target A Linebacker

November 3rd, 2025

Bucs GM Jason Licht.

So it seems since Dolphins chieftain Stephen Ross (finally) bounced general manager Chris Grier, the Dolphins have gone from a team that didn’t want to trade to a team hosting a yard sale.

Ross apparently told interim general manager Champ Kelly to sell. Since Miami has quite a few decent players, the Bucs ought to be kicking tires as the trade deadline is 4 p.m. tomorrow.

Studying Bucs tape and watching the Dolphins, Ben Solak of BSPN thinks he has the perfect Bucs target in South Florida. That would be linebacker Jordyn Brooks.

Who could be targeted? Dolphins linebacker Jordyn Brooks. The biggest weak spot on a young and exciting defense is LB2, where SirVocea Dennis has struggled opposite Lavonte David. The Buccaneers don’t tend to aggressively pursue talent at the deadline, but GM Jason Licht could become emboldened by a weak NFC and a Super Bowl-ready offense. Brooks is one of the best players, regardless of position, who could be available.

Well, if anything, it is the Bucs’ defense the past two weeks that has looked Super Bowl-ready. The Bucs’ offense doesn’t even look Outback Bowl-ready.

Now if you listened to Todd Bowles in his sitdown last week with the Sage of Tampa Bay sports, Ira Kaufman, in the latest edition of the “Ira Kaufman Podcast” — and if you didn’t, what’s wrong with you? — Bowles suggested he thinks SirVocea Dennis has turned the corner.

No doubt Dennis was struggling in the first six games. But in the last two, Bowles likes how Dennis has “settled down” and is now, in Bowles’ mind, headed in the right direction.

So while on paper trading for Brooks seems very smart, Joe doesn’t think it’s realistic.

  1. Dom Says:

Regardless of how Dennis has been playing, it is a smart move because the Bucs are going to need another LB when LVD retires

  2. Upstate NY BUC Says:

Philly just signed Phillips from the Dolphins!! Please Jason!! That Jordyn Brooks is very dependable, and a great tackler Make the move!! Waddle may be available also!! Don’t let Philly out maneuver us!! Go Bucs!!!!!

  3. Caleb Says:

Target either inside LB or guard. Two biggest weaknesses on the team.

  4. Jeff Says:

    They won’t. Licht too stubborn.

  5. ElioT Says:

I’d sure have liked to see Phillips on the Bucs… damn!

Let’s see if Tee Higgins is available.

Mike and Chris are all but done and who knows what will happen with McMillan.

  6. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Draft Sonny Styles next year, stick to what we’ve got right. How likely is it we trade for an ILB with both starters relatively healthy and that trade player comes in and gets the defense down fast enough to make a difference?

Not likely, because our need for an ILB is really just some fans irrational dislike for Sirvocea Dennis, cons only in mind and the pros don’t matter. There’s no single player that’s going to come in and “save” us, we’re not some trash team with a bunch of glaring holes. Alot of our problems will be solved getting healthier and playing better, not chasing names.

  7. Love-spiral Says:

Lb may be their biggest benefit to add

  8. capnhowdy Says:

Dom hit the nail on the head. Why use a draft pick on an unknown LB when you could trade one for LVD’s eventual replacement that is a proven and valuable commodity. If Licht is that damn short sighted on that aspect he deserves to be fired immediately. I LOVE LVD #54 but he couldn’t even make it to the halfway point this year without showing that father time is coming for his career soon.

  9. First Last Says:

Jaylen Phillips traded for a 3rd round pick. Jason Licht could’ve made that trade easily!

  10. 813BUCBOI Says:

only Oline help would make a difference…

    hold fast!!!!

we have a home grown contender!!!!

    6-2!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  11. PSL Bob Says:

And of course one of the Miami players many on this site talked about trading for, Jalen Phillips, is now gone. And who do you thing got him? Yep, the Eagles. They understand what you need to do to be SB ready.

  12. PSL Bob Says:

Upstate NY, sorry I posted before reading through the comments!

  13. DailyRich Says:

Yes, because if we want a player, we’re the only team allowed to trade for them, and if someone else does, it’s a total failure on our part, got it.

  14. FootBall1 Says:

Yes we could desperately use, a lb, guard or receiver. Hopefully, Dennis has turned the corner, but sure could use the depth. As of late the offense desperately needs help. Joe is right did you see what the Rams did to NO!! Presently we can’t compete offensively with either the Rams, Buffalo or Detroit. The defense can’t be expected to hold those teams down with little or no offense.
Help!!! we have the Rams, Buffalo and the hot Patroits coming up. We will need some offense or we will be looking at losses the next 3 games

  15. Oscar Says:

That’s right. The defeatist going in the right direction, the offense is in trouble mainly due to injuries so that’s where they need to be looking for help.

  16. Oscar Says:

    The defense. Geez

  17. StucBuc Says:

What is wrong with JL. Teams are trading and upgrading and we have a ton out of season players. Do something. Jeez does he think the current roster is going deep. Small window

  18. Oscar Says:

The Eagles already made their second move trading for Jaelen Phillips.

  19. Chuckys Bucs Says:

What you all fail to realize is one player does not put us over the top. Better to wait til the off-season. Let this year play out with what we have.

  20. ocala Says:

OLine is where I would prefer to see the Bucs target in a trade.

  21. Deuceswild78 Says:

I wouldn’t overpay with our dressing success lately… I’d rather get o line help if goodies isn’t back soon so baker can settle in more

  22. Kc Says:

We never do anything I just don’t get it !!!!!! So sick of never doing anything doesn’t make sense !!!! Licht and Bowles are clueless if they don’t think we need help on both sides of the ball !!!!! Dennis sucks ass bench him already please and we need a pass rush Bowles your blitz package doesn’t work period wake up Tampa

  23. Todd Says:

Our defense has had serious issues covering short middle and sideline short. Bucs got a shot in the arm for their hopes of picking up a very high seed in the NFC with Packers and Lions taking a loss yesterday.
So the only player that really makes sense for Tampa is LB Jordyn Brooks who is the not only the leading tackler in the NFL , but also sticks to backs and TE’s like glue. In the last 5 games his tackle totals are 8,9,9,10, and 13. At 28 years old Brooks is in the prime of his career and could be the secret sauce that pushes the Bucs over the top. Brooks contract averages at 8.75 mil per through 2026 which is very friendly. Even if you had to give up a 3rd Round pick and a ok player to get Brooks you are still so much more talented as a team with his addition it would be well worth it.

  24. Bucfan1988 Says:

Jordyn Brooks is a solid player for the Fins…..

Would be solid at ILB after that 🤷🏻‍♂️…

Wonder how much he would cost?

  25. BucsFan81 Says:

Looks like the Eagles just traded a 3rd rounder to the Dolphins for Phillips.

  26. Thisisouryear!!! Says:

I’d love to see a LB, but i think we need a right guard and tackle to have a chance this year. If Goedeke is close great, but that’s huge right now.

  27. Oscar Says:

I don’t know what Ben Solak is smoking but the NFC is stronger than the AFC. Defending champion Eagles along with the the Lions, Packers, Bucs, Rams and Seahawks> Colts, Bills, Chiefs, Chargers and Broncos.

  28. jimmy Says:

turned the corner lol. sounds like the excusarama is running full tilt at one buc place. dont need a guy that takes a third of the season to get warmed up then allegedly turns the corner against a trash team like the current saints. if LVD retires after this season imagine how bad next year is going to be.

  29. Pmike Says:

Brooks will definitely help the offense score more points….wait….*forehead slap*

  30. Kenton Smith Says:

We need to get our OLine playing a little better. That’s about it. That was Feeneys first appearance at RG last week. Baker missed passes at Detroit so bad that kept us out of the game. We aren’t desperate. Who cares what Philly is doing? We’ve beaten them regularly. 2 games of less than stellar offense and one loss and everyone is losing it. We’ve got a complete team. We’ve got good guys on the practice squad. Baker being healthy will make a big difference along with the line playing to their strengths. It’s too late in the season to be experimenting with new players. No need. We have the players right now to play anyone and beat them. Just keep doing what you’ve been doing Bucs. Getting better. Most of this group apparently doesn’t know what a good football team looks like. A few of us do. If you’re one who doesn’t know- watch us play this Sunday. And learn.

  31. Zoocomics Says:

Eagles have made (3) moves prior to trade deadline. They are playing for the now, they’ve been in that window, are we or aren’t we in that window? I thought we were in our window. Did losing Evans change it? Do teams not want to deal with us?

For all those that say, don’t make a move…We are NOT going to win a Super Bowl organically, not going to freaking happen. We don’t need to go after Crosby, or Garrett, we need solid rotational guys who have the ability to start. We are so thin at key positions, that if David or Dennis go down… it’s actually going to hurt, more than you think. Nelson staying as a starter at OLB, is going to hurt…I mean this guy has been with us for several seasons, and what, now he’s a starting caliber OLB!? Not happening Bucs Fans.

And yeah, to those that want Oline…agreed. We can limp over the finish line with what we have on Def. Its good enough…what isn’t? Our RG and RT is not consistently good enough. If there is one position that I believe you can really get some great value trading for, it would be RG. There’s better talent out there that would be an immediate upgrade over the practice squad rotation we got there now. Make a move Licht!

  32. Upstate NY BUC Says:

Pmike?? are you covering the middle of the field now!!! We need our D the next 3 games to shine and Brooks would put us over the top, offense will be fine!!!Go Bucs..

  33. Oscar Says:

Should include the Patriots with the upper echelon of AFC teams.

  34. mj Says:

the only reason to add to the defense is to get depth, we need a wr…. i remember the bills got amari cooper mid season and it helped

  35. Todd Says:

NO the reason to add arguably the best inside LB in Brooks is because LVD is getting long in the tooth and you need his replacement.

  36. Oscar Says:

Kenton, with all due respect, our offense has only looked complete in two games this year, against the 49ers and the Seahawks. The rest of the games have been a struggle offensively and that is mainly due to the injuries which has affected the continuity.

  37. Oscar Says:

    The offense needs help now!

  38. Bucfan1988 Says:

Saw an article talking about JPJ sitting in the bench for the Raiders…
    Jackson Powers-Johnson…..

2nd round pic from last year at Center……
Evidently they aren’t getting along ???

What if we grabbed him and moved Barton to RG ??

Goedeke will hopefully be back then we would have a better o-line….

    Just spit-ballin’

Hey that’s what we all doing 🙂

  39. BPBucsfan Says:

Howie Roseman aggressive as always, and making the moves to keep Philly ahead, but don’t worry, we’ll have all our draft picks available for the next JTS, or dare I say it…the out of the NFL Kyle Trask. Nothing personal against him, but must be something out there against him. I guess we’ll see now that Jayden Daniels out indefinitely for Commanders if Trask’s phone rings. Sorry I went off on that tangent, but I just don’t understand not using a pick if there is a proven player available that’s decent. A draft pick doesn’t guarantee squat, just look at the above mentioned recent names, plus (can’t remember name), the receiver/returner that Ariens seemed to love that always ran out of bounds on returns.

  40. Daryl Green Says:

It’s been 7weeks since Luke foot, this ridiculous. It. Really is.

  41. Daryl Green Says:

The wr for the rams is back catching touchdowns 🤷🏾‍♂️

  42. Obvious One Says:

It’s makes PERFECT SENSE to pick up Brooks. A lb IS in the stars for next year. Anybody doubting it IS a fool! We have the opportunity to grab the best in the business ON THE CHEAP! What the he!! are we waiting for? WE HAVE TO SPEND A DRAFT PICK ON ONE ANYWAYS!……

  43. Ben Says:

Dennis hasnt settled down. He got burned by Gibbs just 2 weeks ago. They played a terrible Saints team. It’s the same argument for pass rush. PR two weeks ago was banging the table for an edge rusher after the Lions game. Then they play the Saints, 1-8 team all of a sudden they change their tune, oh maybe we dont need a pass rusher…..ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? Guess what? Bad teams make.you look better, great teams wxpose your weaknesses. The Bucs absolutely need another ILB and Edge rusher. Don’t let sacks vs a 1-8 team fool you.

  44. Obvious One Says:

And boy do we need help with the offense….. RIGHT NOW as well! And I don’t mean to ignore how desperately we NEED at least TWO critical positions on the Offense.

BUT…. the LB is a COMPLETE NO BRAINER! We MISSED our shot in the last draft to get one we desperately needed. Picking him up (Brooks) would make up for that mistake…

Also, I seriously DOUBT that it would hurt Bowles feelings to add that WEAPON OF HIS CALIBER to his arsenal. Would require very little training (best in the business) and would probably figure out the play book pretty quickly.. Potentially a game changer and DEFINITELY a missing link in our current defensive chain. “No Brainer”

  45. BucU Says:

“”Mike and Chris are all but done and who knows what will happen with McMillan””

    F A C T S.

  46. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“Bad teams make.you look better, great teams wxpose your weaknesses. The Bucs absolutely need another ILB and Edge rusher. Don’t let sacks vs a 1-8 team fool you.”

Lions scored 24 points on 4 of 13 drives

Lions punted on 5 of 13 drives

Lions threw a pick, lost a fumble, had turnovers on downs, and missed a FG on their other 4 drives

    Sacked Goff 4 times

Game looked bad, because the offense was dumpster juice and punt 5 times in a row to start the game.

  47. BigZ Says:

Dennis looked good versus the saints. He sure allowed Gibbs to turn the corner a week earlier. Brooks is an immediate up grade at ILB now and for the next few years.
It’s like trading for Hardy. I know he was a FA.

  48. Not My NFL Says:

@813 Ok and what do you think this 6-2 record is going to look like 3 games after the bye week because my guess is 6-5 if we don’t make a move or 2

  49. MelvinJunior Says:

Well, I don’t know what to think about that… ESPN agreeing with ME!? I’ve been leaning a lot more towards winning with our DEFENSE. And, that’s why I’ve wanted to shore up our depth in the middle heart of it! We’re just too banged-up on Offense, and that is not going to change anytime soon. There’s just not a whole helluva lot we can do about it right now, either. Bad game-plan and play-calling. And, I don’t see any game changer WR’s out there to begin with, that are even ‘available’ right now. Trust-Me… You do NOT want Waddle and THAT contract. Period. He is ALWAYS hurt and up until this season, I bet he’s left at least 25-30% of his games early, even the times he was active. He has probably been PROBABLE to DOUBTFUL in about HALF of the games throughout his career… So, no thanks. We should go to playing more of a spread offense, get the ball outta Bake’s hands QUICK in the short to intermediate part of the field, and ‘in-stride’ to our RB’s and ‘little’ WR’s (lots of 2-back sets – hell, there’s no reason not to). Protect the ball. Win the turnover battle, and win with DEFENSE. Then, maybe we can get some of our guys back on the Offense just in time for a potential deep playoff run. That’s about the best we can hope for at this point.

  50. 813BUCBOI Says:

    BEN

how many sacks did we have against a 6-2 SEA team?….or SF 6-3 team?

defense aint the problem!!!!….oline is hurting us…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  51. 813BUCBOI Says:

    notmynfl

    8-3!!!!!

we beat the PATS and RAMS….

im willing to say 9-2 with the injury to Ed Oliver but we go to buffalo were weather will be a factor…

Honestly, NFC games are all i care about from here on out!!!!!

    6-2!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  52. Beeej Says:

Trade a pick for an established player, you ALSO lose a dude on a rookie salary for 4-5 years

  53. Eckwood Says:

The NFL dum jock Disease is abundant in the GM s across the league . If your GM is not making a deal about every year at the trade deadline, you should just simply fire them…….. simply put with your GM , your assistant GM , your head coach and your scouting department actually doing their jobs !! There is simply going to be double digit bargains across the league this time of year. It’s the above mentioned professionals job to find those bargains to trade for them and improve the team long-term.
Yes, trading draft picks can be a losing man’s game, especially when you’re trading for high salary cap profile players……… however there are teams across the league that can’t afford to re-sign fifth year options, have players that don’t fit current staffs, have players that don’t fit current schemes , players that are worth every penny of their contracts. On top of all this, these deals can easily be negotiated and added onto existing deals with new deals or extensions.
This is simply the job of all the before mentioned professionals !! there is no way on earth. You can tell me that with Non-first round pics you can’t land valuable valuable players that you seldom are going to hit on in the second through seventh rounds………. If you’re not making a trade and improving your team every year with the available players, you simply should be fired………. This is nothing more than a true example in the lack of high level professional work in NFL team organizations…….. I mean, what are you gonna do rely on Kancy because you drafted him ………….
When You have quarterbacks on bargain contracts ! You have to have a full emphasis, all hands on deck , 24 seven improving your team…..
This simply is like taking candy out of Halloween basket if you wanna put in the work. Folks you don’t have to Mortgage the future/ cap to do it , there’s tons of options! Do your dam job and find them !!!
I mean, simply put do you want Simmons or Kancey …… remember you’re gonna have to re sign Kancey in a couple years to a big contract. Right Now today !! You can’t re-sign him. He can’t stay on the field so you might as well move on now. The great part is you get to keep him another two years before you move on with a very low cap number while strengthen your team…… Oh No , we don’t want to work lets stand pat ! Howie Rosen has just gotta sit back and laugh about the competition he receives from other organizations……… The NFL inner circle ( support ) dumb jock disease is real !!
The Bucs entire said above staff should be in a one week lock down just as intense as the week before the draft working on their Trade Board which includes players to trade. There should be multiple offers out to teams, trying to start the conversation process………. I mean on the reverse side Rich McKay traded Harold Bishop for a second round pick !! Trades were a huge part of improving the first Buccaneers Super Bowl team.

  54. MelvinJunior Says:

It is just way too big of a crapshoot this season to begin with, with no clear cut favorite. We are a part of a very large group of teams with a shot, but not a top legit contender (which I’m not sure anyone truly is). It’s going to be a battle of attrition and A LOT of luck. There aren’t enough true game changers out there, who will make a major impact. There’s really not a whole lot we can do that would even be worth-it. There is no one that would put us over the top, or even close.

  55. MelvinJunior Says:

Most every team in the entire league still has a shot at the Playoffs, or at least, THEY think they do. So, there aren’t any real game changers out there. Period. I don’t know WHO some of you ‘think’ will make a huge impact to begin with… Especially, on offense!? Cause, I’m just not seeing it! Ya know, all of these teams that are BAD are BAD for a good reason. They have A LOT of bad players. There is NO ONE coming to the rescue here, especially on the offense. I mean, are you REALLY giving up a 3RD for Shaheed!? I like the guy and think he’s a good player, especially as a deep threat… But, a THIRD!? For a RENTAL!? Really!? So, WHO are all of these ‘great’ players available? I’m just not seeing them and that is WHY the market right now, is sky-high. It’s just not worth-it. It’s a frigging CRAPSHOOT to begin with.

  56. 813BUCBOI Says:

    melvin

    well said!!!

    its a crapshoot….we’re 6-2 along with a list of other teams…

we could end up trading for myles garrett and he blows his knee out in practice(hoping that doesnt happen to him)…

we have talent on the roster and our coaching staff is competent enough to craft game plans around our strengths….

    hold fast!!!!!

    6-2!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  57. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

The sum of our parts >>> than any individual player we could make any type of deal for before the deadline. It’s not like we’re some squad full of bums, sure we’re injured but alot of our big and small problems can be solved by the players on this team already.

    Impulse shoppers

  58. Lightningvinny1 Says:

Waddle and Brooks for a 4th

  59. Daryl Green Says:

Wow !!! Just wow ya’ll must be nuts if ya’ll
think we are beating the rams. You thought
Sam Darnold ate us up watch these next 3qbs. Don’t make any moves good night 🤣🤣🤣🤣

  60. unbelievable Says:

Philly out there making deals left and right to build up their depth and add key pieces.

Meanwhile the Bucs are sitting on their arses and hoping for a miracle.

Gee, I wonder which team will fair better in the playoffs…

  61. unbelievable Says:

    *fare

  62. unbelievable Says:

SVD is still the weakest link on our defense, and Lavonte is getting old.

And we have zero depth behind either of them. Zero.

But sure, let’s not make our team any better. Maybe next year when Mike Evans is gone they’ll decide to get serious about winning a Super Bowl…

  63. Kayla Says:

It’s obvious they can’t go far without another starting caliber WR. And that WR is still playing college football.

  64. Usfbucs Says:

Man I am sick thinking that we aren’t going to make a move. What does that say to the players on the team? To the fans?

I know he loves his picks so let’s go get guys who can be on our team for a few years. There are three teams Jets, Titans, and Dolphins not going any where who have good players who could build up our roster at our specific positions of need. Some of them are under contract for multiple years so it’s not like we need the draft pick we are giving up to replace them next year.

  65. unbelievable Says:

Howie Roseman showing why he is a level above Jason Licht

  66. Todd Says:

Brooks is the obvious and correct add for this team as LVD is getting long in the tooth and very well may call it quits after this year. McMillan will be back before the end of the season and we have a very good receiver on the practice squad named Garrett Greene who can be activated to the 53 man roster at any time.

  67. Geno711 Says:

My biggest worry is Dennis in pass coverage. He has been worst in the NFL by eyes of Bucs fans — and statistically. Maybe he is improving but what being 3rd or 5th or 8th worst LB covering out of the backfield is acceptable?

    Not to me.

I think it is a flaw in his game — not speed — taking bad angles.

  68. Bobby Says:

Doubt Jadon makes a trade deadline move.

  69. Bobby Says:

    Jason*

  70. Lightningvinny1 Says:

I mean going forward Waddle, Egbuka , Tez and JMac would be pretty good ,, sprinkle in Chris when he can play ,, Big Mike is still awesome but this could be it

  71. Todd Says:

With the addition of Jordyn Brooks your defense goes from deficient to efficient by adding one player and the coverage woes on RB’s and TE’s are fixed plus you also get the leading tackler in the whole league. Reality is Bucs would have to give up a 4th rounder and a defensive player that is OK , so trade a 4th Rounder and Izien for Brooks.

  72. MelvinJunior Says:

Waddle I’d not worth the money. I don’t want ANOTHER injury-prone WR or player. He’s been prone to injury going all the way back to college at Alabama. He has been listed as PROBABLE to DOUBTFUL to OUT (&/or left early, failing to finish) in probably about a THIRD of his NFL career. He is just not worth-it. Hell, the Saints are demanding a 3RD for Shaheed on an expiring contract, as a total RENTAL. I’m not giving that for him, either. $28-MIL per season (and a high-pick) for an always banged-up, expensive Waddle!? Noooo Thanks.

  73. MelvinJunior Says:

I would consider-it only IF Bake was 36-years old on an expiring contract that we already knew that we were moving on from. And, IF our team overall, was in a lot better shape and we were a legit top 2-3 Super Bowl Favorite. But, we are neither of those things. Period. End of Story.

  74. Lightningvinny1 Says:

I would do something though,,, maybe Brooks then ,,, you can say we aren’t close but we have been injured to the hills and still beat SF and everyone’s dream team Seattle ,,,, this week we need to beat NE ,, the Bye came at a great time and Atlanta made NE work really hard for their victory

  75. Kenton Smith Says:

Eckwood. Really. Our front office isn’t doing their jobs? Many, probably not most, but many would agree with you about your feelings. But not doing their jobs? That’s your opinion. But please look at that reasonably. If wins and losses are the measuring stick well then no one in the NFL is doing their job. Because we are tied for the best team in the NFL. Everyone has 2 or more losses. So you’re all good Eckwood in identifying that there are good players that might be able to help us. To suggest our front office isn’t doing their job is gonna be a tough sell.

  76. Ed Says:

The issue with the Bucs this year is the offense has been destroyed by injuries so if you can trade for any offensive lineman without an injury history for a 5th rounder it gives them the flexibility to move Barton somewhere else as he isn’t doing well at center. All of those stops New Orleans got were up the gut over center.

You also could use a WR only if the price is right. Someone like Higgins is probably worth a 3 or 4. He is good.

Sounds like the Dolphin linebacker is solid and we need him too. If Licht can deal his 4, 5 or 6 picks for those positions and get the value, why not? Bucs have tied up too much money in older players. I’d rather see a 28 year old who is healthy that can play here for 3 years than the money that is going to go to Godwin and Evans next year.

  77. Beeej Says:

    “We have to do SOMETHING!”

Rarely do good things happen after that

  78. Please Says:

Why all the Phillips freaking out? 26 sacks over 5 seasons. 10.5 over the last 3. What’s the big miss?

  79. adam from ny Says:

you can probably scoop up kyzir white from the titans for next to nothing
