Baker Mayfield Passing Chart Vs. Rams
November 26th, 2025Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield only played on half of football against the Rams last Sunday in that atrocious game from the City of Angels. But in that first half, Liam Coen’s name was all over Mayfield’s passing chart.
We all know Coen hated throwing deep passes, at least with Mayfield. Joe isn’t sure if that has changed for Coen over in Jacksonville with struggling Trevor Lawrence.
Well Sunday at SoFi Stadium, of the 19 passes Mayfield threw in the first half (he did not play in the second half), only two went further than 20 yards from the line of scrimmage.
Perhaps Bucs offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard was channeling his inner Woody Hayes. The legendary Ohio State coach famously once stated only three things can happen on a pass and two are bad.
On the two passes over 20 yards from the line that Mayfield attempted, one was incomplete and the other interception. So Hayes’ mantra came true there.
The majority of Mayfield’s completions came on those junk screen passes to the left that got few yards.

Joe … ‘The majority of Mayfield’s completions came on those junk screen passes to the left that got few yards.’
What that tells me is that Grizz is clueless at this point. Our Run Game was working to start the game, then Grizz abandoned it in favor of the pass and everything fell apart. It was 14-0 Rams in the 1st qtr before we even blinked, and the game was effectively over.
If we’d stuck with our Run Game we had a slight chance of competing. In the 1st half, Bucs had TEN 3rd down and TWO 4th down opportunities. Bucs ran on FOUR of our 3rd downs … and we converted all 4. Bucs passed on SIX of our 3rd downs … and we converted on only 2 of them. We passed on BOTH of our 4th down chances in the 1st half … 1 was intercepted & the other was Incomplete.
I was under the impression that Grizz was promoted to OC because of the great work that he did last season on 3rd down conversion play-calls. Not impressed at all this year.
