Baker Mayfield Doesn’t Deny He May Be Less Than 100 Percent
November 5th, 2025Joe remembers maybe halfway through the second quarter of the Bucs’ win over the slimy Saints in Lincoln’s Tomb a Sunday ago.
The Bucs were doing nothing offensively. A hardcore Bucs fan who played SEC ball texted Joe, writing, “Mayfield has to be hurt.”
Today, Mayfield didn’t deny that.
Mayfield hasn’t run much for first downs or touchdowns since his ridiculous run for a first down against San Francisco. Today, Mayfield was asked if that is because he was nicked up or if defenses had a spy on him to prevent him from running.
“A little bit of both,” Mayfield said. “Detroit did a great job with their pass rush lanes and also the spy — the scheme overall.
“New Orleans did not do that as much, but [I] just have to get the ball out on time. Some of the lanes were there, but also was able to get the throws out in scramble drill instead of taking off and running.
“A little bit of both, but mostly schematically.”
Mayfield was listed on this week’s first injury report as being a full participant in practice, though he has a knee and oblique injury.
There are two things that make the Bucs’ offense go into the tank: Mike Evans being unavailable for a game or Mayfield being less than 100 percent.
The problem with Mayfield is, the guy is a weapon with his feet as well as his arm. You lasso Mayfield in, and you’re basically gelding him. You’ve got to let the racehorse race.

You can bet that NE will run the same defense as the Lions. If the OL can play better, hopefully with Goedeke playing well, then Bake and the offense will be fine.

Was hoping that Baker would be 100% after the BYE. Apparently that was unbridled optimism; either one of Baker’s 2 injuries could be enough to ground him for several games if either of them gets aggrevated.
Our OLine HAS TO PROTECT HIM BETTER, period. Baker took 7 sacks in the last 2 games, and the next 3 teams we play all have decent sack totals thus far this season (19, 25, 28). That’s an average of 2-3 sacks per game, with Baker as the recipient if we don’t protect him better.
It would certainly help reduce that threat IF our run game picks up. It’d also help IMO IF we started using our TEs more with some quick hits in the passing game. Plus we need better numbers out of our RBs in the passing game (we’re way behind on last season’s production there). Improving all 3 of those will add to Baker’s survivability in this 2nd half of the season.

NE is a bunch off pansies with a sissy head coach. They want to talk about feelings. Drake Maye is a butler at a 3 star hotel.
Hit them hard. And often. They will fold like they did last week.

ModHairKen … ‘Hit them hard. And often. They will fold like they did last week.’
Uhh, Patriots have won 6 in a row. Not sure how that’s ‘folding’, but whatever it is I’d take it if that’s what it takes to win 6 in a row.

Makes sense Baker hasn’t thrown the ball as well with an oblique injury. That can be extremely limiting. Praying for you to heal up quick, Bake! God bless!

If Baker is immobile and his oblique is causing errant passes, let Bridgewater start. He would also be immobile, but he might be more accurate. It would also allow Baker more time to heal before the stretch run.

Um…if you were 100%, would you want your next oponent know? Think about it.

Guess we all find out sunday.

That oblique injury explains why Bake has been inaccurate the past 2 games.
Man, we need that to heal ASAP.
