Baker Mayfield: Bad Shoulder Didn’t Take “Direct Hits”

November 30th, 2025

Joe was somewhat surprised. Baker Mayfield looked very healthy today.

He would have had a special day on the stat sheet without two heinous drops, one each by Chris Godwin and Emeka Egbuka.

Mayfield could barely practice last week after spraining his left shoulder against the Rams on Sunday night.

After today’s game, Mayfield said his bad shoulder didn’t take “direct hits” and he feels pretty good and looks forward to improvement.

Mayfield ran 6 times for 27 yards. That was not in the plan. Those were scrambles, but Mayfield did them well and smartly avoided contact. His 21-yarder was a big play in the game.

Passing, Mayfield finished with 194 yards and 1 touchdown on 18-for-28 passing. That’s a 64 percent completion rate.

Mayfield threw more deep shots than usual, which Joe will attribute to strong pass blocking moments and the game plan. The deep throws weren’t very successful, but that should change as Chris Godwin attracts more attention from defenses and opens things up for other receivers.

Just watched the Simeon Rice press conference. Total class and confidence. One of the all time great Bucs and also the most underrated. He was clutch! Should be first ballot HOF. We need another Simeón personality on this defense.

I don’t think we win this game with Teddy

Ya. Where were the passes sailing from, Baler? You’ve turned into the 2021 version of yourself, but t least it fits perfectly with your Head Coach’s outstanding motivational leadership.

    `Fire Bowles

I love Baker, but he is missing wide open guys down field. Twice in the 4th quarter I saw Shepard down along the bucs sideline wide open. He is too quick to dump the ball to his checkdowns. Maybe his injury and the lack of offensive line protecting him on a regular basis is making him make hasty decisions. I sure hope we can improve our game on both sides of the ball before we play Carolina!

A few of those superior teams the Bucs lost to during their losing streak look pedestrian. The Lions and the Rams looked exceptional against the Bucs, lately, not so much. I think it shows the Bucs to pretenders to playoff football. The coaching staff is subpar, some of the players zone out. Todd’s excuses has manifested itself in the players.

    Embarrassing. MVP.

    LOL.

  8. SenileSenior Says:

Our team may not be Super Bowl bound but I think this team as well as this franchise have a lot of class. I am still proud of them. And, yes, I am relieved that we won today.

    Go Bucs!

  9. Ufcguy Says:

We need to go for chunk plays and use the Hurry up offense. Grizzard is nothing like Coen. God we let him go and we should not have. This team with him is a super bowl team

  10. Aqualung Says:

Bowleszo would’ve found a way to teach Coen how to regress in his second year. It’s his specialty.

  11. Bucscoott Says:

Everyone says fire Bowels who would you replace him with? Just asking

  12. Mac Says:

I wanted him let go last year to keep Coen. No way we should have EVER let him out the door. Will set this franchise back for many many many years! Bowles is and never was going to be that guy for us. Many of us knew it from day one

  13. Marky mark Says:

    Fire Godwin

  14. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Bucscoott, the better question is who would you NOT replace Toad with?
