At The Break: Emeka Egbuka The “Offensive Rookie Of The Year”

November 3rd, 2025

The numbers say…

If you believe in numbers, then Cynthia Frelund’s analysis is for you.

The leather-wearing NFL Network stats queen, Frelund says her numbers tell her that the race for “NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year” is Bucs receiver Emeka Egbuka over Indianapolis tight end Tyler Warren.

Frelund claims Egbuka is the first player in NFL history to have at least 25 receptions, 400 receiving yards and five touchdowns in their first five games played.

And if Egbuka wins this award, Joe believes he is going to earn it. Mike Evans is likely out the rest of the regular season. Chris Godwin? Who knows? So the Bucs are going to have to bank on Egbuka, a rookie, being their No. 1 receiver. And you just know teams will keep doubling him until they no longer can.

So for Egbuka to keep up his stellar rookie season, he’s going to have to play some fantastic football.

Hoping EE can get that hammy back to good during the break.

You could tell he was hampered by it the last 2 games.

I would love for EE2 to win it.But watch it will go to Jackson Dart. He’s a QB and a big market team. It will cause more of his jersey’s to sale, allowing the NFL to make more of a profit.

    EE2 get healthy buddy!!!!!…

hoping this bye helped him and others a ton….

    6-2!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  4. Hodad Says:

    What a body! Butter face.

  5. Lt. Dan Says:

Jakobi Meyers seems like a relatively cheap option to add to the roster.

Cynthia is right on about Buka! Can’t wait to see how much healthier the Bucs are after the bye. Perfect timing.

  7. dbbuc711 Says:

Hope I’m wrong but I think this will be the last season for both Ebans and Godwin.

  8. heyjude Says:

dbbuc711 – Hoping that they both come back stronger than ever. Godwin came back a little too earlier I think. Maybe the bye and a couple more weeks will fare well for him.

  9. Steve Says:

Dart is winning it. QBs always win

Not to rain on EE’s parade, but that kid in Seattle is tearing it up. Those “first 5 games” numbers are a cool stat, but that’s less than 1/3 of a full season ans if we don’t get some WR help (and get EE 100% healthy) his numbers can’t hold up because he’ll be the focus of every D we face.

I agree with Lt. Dan about Meyers from Vegas. He’s a great route runner, experienced and reliable. He got a little time playing with Brady as a rookie, so that helped his development. Waddle would be great from Miami, but Meyers would be just as good (talent-wise) and much cheaper.

  11. BucU Says:

Licht ain’t gonna do squat. He’s too in love with all his draft picks even though some aren’t cutting it.

I am an OSU fan, and very big fan of Emeka, but many of Egbuka’s TD’s were due to Mike Evans drawing away the double team that freed up Mek to make a play.

If Mek is now WR1 – he’s going to see a lot of double teams – who is our WR2 that can make opponents pay for doubling Mek?

That’s the problem I see – very happy for Emeka – but most of his catches are going to contested and on throws from Baker into double coverage – that’s going could lead to turnovers.

I know we have Shep, Tez, Kam and Ryan Miller – but none of them actually threaten any of the defenses for the next 3 teams we face.

It’s going to be rough sledding for Emeka Egbuka the next several weeks. He’s recently played 17 games in the last playoff run, so maybe he can forestall the dreaded “rookie wall” – but Tez is also facing the walll.

We could go heavy on short/quick passes – but that would require some participation by the TE’s – but they’re kinda pinned down by the bad o-line play on the right side… are we getting Goedeke (or even Bucky) back after the bye?

A lot of questions remain for this offense – it’s going to be a dog fight for Emeka Egbuka.

We need a solid veteran receiver right now.
