Sean Tucker Probably Earning More Touches

November 11th, 2025

Running back Sean Tucker breaks free against New England.

One Bucs offensive player sure made the case that he needs the ball more.

The one thing the Bucs did well on Sunday against the Patriots was run the ball. Rachaad White was OK. He averaged 3.8 yards on 10 carries.

And while Sean Tucker had fewer carries, he made more of an impact.

Tucker had nine carries but he ran for 53 yards, or 5.9 yards a carry.

Yesterday, a reporter implied to Todd Bowles that Tucker has similarities to Bucky Irving and the head coach waved off that suggestion in a hurry. As for getting more carries, Bowles said the hungriest dog on gameday will get more treats.

“I don’t think Tucker is like Bucky at all,” Bowles said. “I think they run differently. I don’t think they’re very similar. I think all three are very different in the way they run the football.

“[Tucker has] gotten a lot more reps and a lot more plays and a lot more blitz pickup, and we’re going to need all of them coming down the stretch.

“So, we’re good where he’s at right now, and the hot hand usually gets more reps.”

One reason why Tucker has not been on the field much is his subpar blocking. Yeah, with so many injuries, keeping Baker Mayfield on two feet is a big point of focus. Understandably so.

But apparently, per Bowles, Tucker has made strides there.

With the passing game the past three weeks currently all effed up, the Bucs might need to lean on the run game more. So if Tucker is having a good game, he may get fed more.

Tucker made a statement on Sunday he should.

Thank you Veterans for your service, hope you have a great day. Go Bucs!

  2. Evo Says:

Long overdue. Better running back than White, and has decent hands. When he dropped that pass Sunday, I was hoping he wouldn’t lose his chance to show more. I think if Tucker starts, the offensive line would look a lot better.

  3. RustyRhinos Says:

Year 3 for our UDFA Tucker, and his Pass blocking is improving, as it should. Tucker has more power imo than either Bucky or White, and is faster than both.. He is earning his opportunities and with injuries he is showing up when his number is called..

  4. 813bucboi Says:

    All 3 are different….

HOWEVER, Bucky and Tucker hit the hole with force!!!!…RW is too finesse…

unfortunately, it doesnt matter if our RBs average 11 yards per carry, Grizz will abandon the run!!!!

Bowles needs to start Tucker and order Grizz to run no less than 15 rushes per half!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  5. BuccinBaker6, Says:

I really don’t understand why the Main two backs are not Bucky an Tucker an use White on 3rd downs The Backs are not being used Right an it’s so frustrating Bucky can do it all but he n needs a running mate to keep his wear down on his body I would be using the RBs more they are weapons

  6. Will Says:

The reporter is correct and so is coach. Tucker runs more like Bucky than White does is all the reporter was saying in my opinion. Tucker has a burst and change of pace that White doesn’t have. I wish our new OC would put White in the slot and Tucker in the backfield. This would help both the pass and run because teams would have to respect White in the slot and know that Tucker can hurt them from the backfield as well. Maybe with all the backups on the line they’re scared to get too creative but all the vanilla isn’t helping. Yes they’re backups but you have them on the team figure it out. I didn’t see the game the other day but keep hearing about all the screens that aren’t working. Why haven’t we faked a screen and taken a deep shot? I remember us doing something like that last year and I think Godwin took it to the house. Time to get better play designs.

    BINGO!!!!

Grizz ran 1 play out of the 2back set….both Tucker and RW started in the backfield together….RW motioned to the slot, and ball was snapped and baker handed it to Tucker for 8yards!!!!…..Grizz never ran that play or 2back sets again….

    Grizz is failing!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  8. DmanTX Says:

As I look for silver linings, my hope is this tough stretch we begin to get improved play from our new young wide receivers, we involve our the tight ends more, and yes, we get to see what Tucker and other backs can do with more touches and more playtime. If we come through this stretched improve that those positions, when the healthy bodies come back will be even that much stronger and ready to make a run in the playoffs.

  9. FortMyersDave Says:

Great idea from will and 813bucboi! Why not give Tucker some reps in Buffalo, he might surprise and the Bills D let the Fins boatrace them via the ground game and the Bills did not score until garbage time.

I like how Rick Stroud asked Todd that question. Now would someone in the press please ask him why Bucky and Godwin were not put on the IR as they are missing so many weeks. Bucs could have picked someone up like Tyler Lockett or swung a deal for someone with a day 3 draft pick but they sat on their hands and have been going with a 51 man roster, 50 if you count Reddick out. If the Bucs have pride, they will show up and it could be a good game, if they fold, well it looks like 6-5 and we will be talking about Bowles and whether his seat is getting hot….

  10. Bucsalltheway Says:

How can you suck at blitz pickup with a linebacker body at rb…he can do that and no more rachaad white…but he can’t block on blitz pick ups…he definitely runs with more juice than rachaad

  11. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

We should start Tucker, it’d serve the same effect as did last year with Bucky emerging. It’ll free Rachaad up. One of my biggest gripes about Grizz is his lack of mixing it up with the personnel in the RB

I think most fans do realize the obvious, all 3 of our RBs have their own style of play and when you have that type of versatility in talent you give all of them a share in propping up the run game.

That takes pressure off the QB and pass game as a whole.

It forces defenses to constantly adapt to pursuing different styles of runners.

We predominately run a gap scheme, which has helped with having to shuffle the deck all season on the OL as it’s simple, downhill and less sophisticated than the duo zone we ran with Leftwich via BA.

    @813

That play is a good example of how they 8 yard run could have the screen, something more intermediate in the pass game and/or set up play action IF Grizz wasn’t just throwing spaghetti at the wall in terms of his playcalling. All the injuries in mind, we literally have examples of it being sufficient enough to win games with the talent on hand. Margins are slimmer, because we can’t help teams beat us in any phase of the game. We’ve been too good at that imo.

  12. garro Says:

I don’t really disagree with what Todd said. I do however disagree with some of how White is being used. Give him more targets in the passing game. Open field running is a strength. Tucker deserves more touches but he is not the short yardage power guy White can be.

About fed up with Bakers buddy Shepard. He did the exact same thing on a similar play last year if I am not mistaken. You can’t run picks dude! Not sure if someone coached him to do that or if he ran the wrong route but we can’t have that!

    Go Bucs!

  13. 813bucboi Says:

    GARRO

    agree with you regarding Shep…

he made bone headed plays last year and he’s made some this year….

unacceptable from a vet of his caliber….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  14. ModHairKen Says:

Tucker is from Syracuse. Think he does not want to go to Buffalo and plant his flag?

    Give him the ball.

  15. 813bucboi Says:

    WBL

joe posted an article earlier stating that baker was 10-13 on passes 10-19yards….

pretty obvious that, IF grizz commits to the run game, play action this there for the taking…

and IF Grizz were to throw in a new wrinkle like the 2rb set he displayed 1 time vs the Pats, defense will be on their heels…the offense becomes less predictable….

im a huge fan of bowles but he needs to demand Grizz to run the ball at least 15 times per half or this offense will never rebound….

    5 runs off tackle..5 inside runs…5 creative runs(jet sweep, 2back sets) per half…

no way we should lost that game being +1 in the TO department

    GO BUCS!!!!

  16. Saskbucs Says:

3 of our last 4 OCs have had trouble with the run game.

They all seem to think you can only run on 1st and 2nd down, mostly up the middle from 12 personnel.

Just once, while losing a game with a lot of time on the clock, I would like to see the Bucs go 11 personnel, spread out wide, up tempo offense and spam the run game and play action.

3rd and 3 on Sunday… spread em and give Tucker or White a chance.

I am sure they run out of 11 a lot and I don’t notice but it doesnt seem like it, or it seem they do bunch formations near the line.

  17. Bucsalltheway Says:

I also smell us not using rachaad white Because it’s a contract year and I think we are making it to where I will be cheaper to retain him in the off season without a bidding war going on..similar to what we did to Ronald Jones just my opinion but I don’t feel I am wrong on this

  18. Adam's Angry Says:

I don’t get the insistence that White as an RB1. He isn’t. He’s not even close. He’s a 3rd Down back at best.

White is the guy you put in the game when it’s 4th and 3 and you need 2 yards.

  19. SBucs Says:

The talent evaluation on this team sucks. There are several players on the practice squad that should play the next two games. Why? They’re loses to come anyway and the sooner you give these young hungry players a chance the better. Why don’t the Bucs want to give these players playing time? Because they may be better than the coaches expect and show up the evaluation.

  20. Stpetematt Says:

We have trouble with outside runs and screens because the blockers are people like Tez and Shepard instead of a big strong Evans and Godwin. EE can block so maybe a screen to Tez behind EE? I dunno.

  21. Bobby M. Says:

Even if he’s blocking better, his ability to catch passes is sub par. He’s a much better rusher than White, but White is far better at blitz pick up and pass catching. White is an ok runner but definitely can’t make something out of nothing the way Irving and Tucker can. If Tucker could be a bit more consistent in pass catching, he’s definitely got the ability to be an every down back. Reminds me of Earnest Graham

  22. Mobucs Says:

I’m a Tucker fan. I have been believing that White has been getting much more time because it’s his salary year and either they think he’s motivated or they’re just doing him a solid by gining him lots of opportunities. I think Tucker suffers some because his infrequent appearances are a tipoff that he is going to get the ball and defenses can key on him.

  23. Bojim Says:

Yes. He should had more earlier. Need touches to get into a rithym

  24. Famu Rattler Says:

Ok everyone, I did not read all of the above posts. But Grizzard has an answer alone with Tea in the receiver Room right now. If Tez can get special route training then, there can be some special attention giving to Devin Culp. This give Otto some breathers and it adds some more speed and size to the routes. So, our OC is still developing but now is the time to use the weapons in house to the best of their ability. What happened to the (3) TE sets, 44/01 RB, Durham as Full back, Culp as WR, Otto as TE. run the screen, TE Crossing route or Seam routes, all from this formation. Be like the old Green Bay Packers, run it until they prove it can not work. Pound 44 and 01 from this set. Tell Durham his job is to plow anyone that is in his way. And emphasize “PLOW ANYONE” that get in the way. let’s tell our receiver that they will be down field blocker on running plays and to lower the boom on the DB’s and LB’s when they can. Let play physical foot ball. Let our linemen have some fun pounding the other guys for a while. No chip blocks, full body directional impact blocks to give the RB a lane to go into. Go Bucs, Go Bucs. If Miami can destroy the Bills, then we should be able to do the same. Do Not Go Into the This Game thinking passing. Go into this game thinking Running, Running and Running some more. Tucker and White , Otto and Culp, Tez and EE. But run first…………

  25. Rod Munch Says:

Some PFF stats for the Pats game for you…

Best pass blocker on the team, including offensive lineman…
    White, 81.9 (1st)
    Tucker, 17.1 (11th, last)

    Run grade…
    White, 90.4 (1st, 90 is considered excellent)
Tucker, 79.5 (2nd, 79.5 is considered very good)

    Receiving grade…
    White, 65.4 (4th)
    Tucker, 30.8 (8th, last)

Pretty much what the eyeball test shows you. White is simply the better back, and when you account for all factors, he’s the much better back. White tends to get worst blocking, and we saw that on Sunday when he repeatedly was getting hit nearly at the same time the ball was handed to him – and he also took one of those that should have been about a 4 yard loss and got an 8 yard gain. White isn’t Bucky by any means – but he’s in a completely different class than Tucker, who is a one trick pony with very limited vision.

  26. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    Lol this guy

  27. Kenton Smith Says:

White is a stud. But he’s had his chances. Tuckers turn. A rookie running back took 2 to the house last week to beat us. White doesn’t do that. Tucker looks like a running back who just might do that.

The Saints game was more than a year ago. Tucker wasn’t a future 1st ball HOFer, just like Nelson isn’t after his huge game vs the Saints. It’s just the Saints, they suck, they make guys look like HOF’ers, but the thing is you have to repeat that performance – you can’t rely for years off one game unless you’re All Budy.

Tucker has had plenty of chances, and what he does is blow blocks and run bad pass routes. As a pure runner, he’s OK for a backup, but is nothing but a basic north/south runner. On Sunday he got some huge holes and ran through them – like every RB does. White, meanwhile, did not get huge holes, instead had to break like 5 tackles to get 3 yards, and people pretend as if that didn’t happen.

  29. Ed Says:

Part of the issue with the Bucs screen game is the other teams are on to it. How many times did they throw it to White and there was an opponent right in his face the moment he caught it. In years past when they would swing it to him outside the defender would be 3 or 4 yards away, come up to tackle him and he’d make a move and gain another 10 yards. New England and the other good teams are right on top of him.

He’d probably be better being split out and run short routes. He’s got good hands. Tucker has more power and speed, just give him some creases, he’ll get through them quick than White can. I dislike White’s hesitation move, he doesn’t accelerate quickly enough. Only LeSean McCoy did that move well.

  30. Kenton Smith Says:

Rod, we’re gonna have to disagree on Tucker as a runner. White IS a north south runner. Tucker, has looked like an electric back since the first time I saw him. I’m a fan of White. I’d prefer White in the red zone I think. But it’s time to let Tucker be the first ball carrier. White will still get his touches.

  31. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“Tucker has had plenty of chances, and what he does is blow blocks and run bad pass routes”

Fan ficition, takes a whole lot of trying to be this wrong lol

    The “Plenty of chances”
    2025:

Through 9 games, but only getting carries in 6 of 9 games

    32 rushes, 139 yards(4.0 ypc), and 2 rush TDs

    2024-AFTER the saints game:

11 games, but only got touches in 9 of 11.

39 carries, 165 yards(4.2 ypc), and 1 rush TD in

    Highest single-game carries were 8 for 39 yards @Car

Scored the lone TD in NYC after our bye.

So in these 15 Games, excluding the explosion in Nola and in very limited action.

Tucker has gotten 71 carries, rushed for 304 yards(4.2 ypc) and scored 3 times(.

Idk if anybody has seen our run game this season, but we could use some of that one trick 🤣🤣 for a guy who’s got 2 positions on the depth chart.

Tuckers’ highest rushing total in terms of carries since that infamous Saints game in ‘25 was the Saints game before the bye this year and he got 12 touches.

Scorched earth for a player Bucs fans damn near unanimously want to see more of, is kind of funny. Idk if it’s idiocy or satire, but it’s workin lol

    ———

LOL! Some good revisionist history there… he literally fumbled at the goal line in that game, that’s why in huge part why he didn’t get a lot of carries.

Also getting some late game stats when you win 48-14, like the Bucs did vs the Panthers, doesn’t really help your case much.

Fact is he’s just a generic replacement-level backup. He’s not special. He had a good game vs a Saints team that quit, and then in the preseason in game 1 vs the Titans, he’s the teams 2nd leading rusher, and dummies in the comments here are saying he could start for most teams and the Bucs wouldn’t trade him for a 1st round pick. I can assure you, the Bucs WOULD trade him for a 1st rounder. Or a 2nd, or a 3rd, or a 4th or a 5th.

  33. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“LOL! Some good revisionist history there… he literally fumbled at the goal line in that game, that’s why in huge part why he didn’t get a lot of carries.“

Genius, the lone TD as in the only TD after the saints game, still haven’t got those eyes checked I see lol

  34. Brandon Says:

All three have very different running styles. White runs like a poor man’s Leveon Bell… very patient, stops, starts, good power. Bucky is a bit more like Barry Sanders but with a little less quickness, speed, power, but more desire to move the sticks and not try for a homerun. Tucker is a lot like Tony Dorsett… very smooth, fast, maybe bigger than Dorsett but deceptive power than Dorsett… I’ve always liked Tucker the most of the three.

  35. Brandon Says:

Rod Munch… horrible take on Tucker. Tell me you don’t know ball without telling me. Tucker has tremendous potential. He is our fastest, most powerful back, easily.
