Todd Bowles Giddy Over Jamel Dean’s Play But You May Never Guess Why

October 13th, 2025

Overjoyed over a Bucs corner.

Joe has typed about this so many times, readers are probably sick of reading about it.

Todd Bowles is close to Bucs cornerback Jamel Dean, but not too close that Bowles won’t mock Dean from time to time.

Bowles has been hounding Dean about getting more picks for years. In Training Camp 2024, after Dean picked off a pass in practice, Bowles vowed in his post-practice presser to get Dean drug-tested.

Dean is often in Bowles’ office, sometimes well after most players are gone for the day. He and Bowles have a bond.

Yesterday, when Dean got his second interception of the year — truly something for the Bucs to celebrate — Bowles was happy for Dean. But, Dean did something else against the 49ers that Bowles thought was worthy of even more praise.

It was a sack!

“That was Dean’s first sack that I have seen in my career and that was probably the best play that I can say next to Mike Evans getting 1,000 yards last year that I have ever seen,” Bowles said. “That goes down in history for me.”

Dean had one of the Bucs’ six sacks yesterday. So despite Bowles hounding Dean for years to do better picking the ball off, it wasn’t a pick that got Bowles excited. It was a sack.

Holy smokes, Bowles must be reading this site.

I have to say when Joe mentioned in an earlier article that Dean should have knocked it down I did a full facepalm.

  2. Football 1 Says:

I was at the game. I admit I have been a Dean detractor but yesterday he was amazing!!!. Maybe he should be in a contract year every year!!!. Presently he is playing lights out!!!.

  3. Fred McNeil Says:

I actually thought I had fallen asleep and was watching the game from Dreamland. Wish I hadn’t pinched myself though. Turned out to be real. Great game!

  4. Defense Rules Says:

Six sacks yesterday was awesome Joe, but it was the 2 INTs that really made a huge difference.

  5. Roscoe Says:

Todd Bowles is such an enigma. There are times when one wonders if he should be a head coach and then there are times when he IS a wonder. Regardless, the results are there. My hope is this; 1. He gets a SB win. 2. Finishes his current contract and retires with a great resume and on his own terms. 3. He mentors Grizz for 3 years and grooms him to be his successor.

  6. Steven007 Says:

Football, if the Bucs play their cards right he could be on a contract year every year. It’s happened before. And no I’m not talking about the franchise tag obviously.

DEFENSE WILL HAVE 2 INTS AND 4 SACKS!!!!!!

    BUCS WIN 31-10

    5-1!!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  8. David Says:

The haters need to give the credit where it is due. He had an INT, a sack, a forced fumble, a quarterback hit, 4 tackles!

  9. Smarter than Joe Says:

Dean is going to con some team into paying him $20-25 million a year

Then he will play 6-8 games a year

  10. orlbucfan Says:

Smarter than Joe: Are you really as dumb as you sound? Bowles has more football knowledge in his little finger nail than you do in your whole head. There is obviously a good reason why he keeps and likes Dean. Wow, yeah, I remember that sack. Radio gang couldn’t believe it.

Everyone has the blueprint on how to beat Dotd’s “defense” now. Take the wide open 7 yard pass every time. Ball comes out in half a second and even if the pass rushers actually happen to be rushing the passer the ball is out so quick they have no time to disrupt the QB. It’s the Defensive Genius At Work.

I’ll be feeding you crow all week BOY!!!!!!!

    5-1!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

Guys, I Sure Am PROUD of My team today. And I’m colored Impressed with Todd Bowles TODAY.
Normally I’ve got a nice bus to throw Bowles under (deservedly), BUT NOT THIS TIME!
He “actually” had a Strong and Effective game plan AND he “ACTUALLY ” pivoted and maneuvered IN REAL TIME!!! How many? How many games has Bowles sat there helpless waiting for the half Before He Made Adjustments?? ONE BILLION TIMES!!

But Ladies and Gentlemen, NOT THIS TIME! Perhaps for the first time Ever!

He bobbed and he weaved.. He was floating like a butterfly and stinging like a bee!

He remained “fluid” for at least 80 to 85% of this game. I COULD NOT BELIEVE MY EYES…
And Jamel Dean? He played like He Knew EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS DOING FOR “ALL” 60 minutes! He!!, he was sitting back there with a smile before he intercepted the ball “As IF” a fortune teller had predicted the exact time, down, and quarter that he was going to get his interception..

BAKER!!! GRABBED THE ENTIRE TEAM UP BY THEIR BOOT STRAPS AND CARRIED EVERYBODY ON HIS BACK 17 YARDS AND ON TO GLORY!!!

We played as Mel Gibson would term it, “like Warrior Poets” ….

It was INDEED A “COMPLIMENTARY AND COMPLETE” Coming Together , “FINALLY” Of Our Team. STARTING from the Head Coach and ALL THE WAY TO THE WATERBOY! OUR TEAM Showed Up and Threw Down!

And from what I witnessed with My Very Own LYING EYES, I can “NOW” mark my vote down as “Confident” in the very next “How is Todd Bowles doing pole”

PLEASE. PLEASE KEEP COACHING LIKE YOU DID IN THIS GAME COACH BOWLES. I “WANT TO” ALWAYS GIVE YOU A VOTE OF CONFIDENCE. But you should know, if you play like a confused chicken again, … I’m going to throw you back under the bus! SO KEEP KICKING A$$!

The ENTIRE TEAM WAS “ON POINT”! I’m SO PROUD TODAY!

  13. Roscoe Says:

WOW ! The winning (perfume) sure has enabled a turning of the tables. Not long ago if Bowles had been called an enigma some Bowles hater most certainly would have confused enigma with enema.

  14. #1bucsfan Says:

I’ve bin a big Dean supporter since he was drafted. Long, fast and is an above average man v man CB. Only knock like Joe has reported is availability. Love watching ol brittle make some plays this year. Now bubble wrap him up and save him for the playoffs lol

  15. GoneGator Says:

“Holy smokes, Bowles must be reading this site.”

Lol 🤣 – Todd may not be the brightest man ever but he’s smart enough to know that reading this site can help him in ZERO ways but can hurt in many. Same with (especially) the players and other coaches.

And I’m sure he doesn’t give a rats a$$ that the delusional crowd wants to give him a tiny bit of credit NOW either. And neither do the “fans” who have had his back all along.

  16. ModHairKen Says:

Dean could get Defensive Player of the Week.

  17. Obvious One Says:

Funny how Bowles calls his Best Ever game as a head coach and some can’t stand it that he gets the credit that was PROMISED..

Talk about no quality of life…..and boring.. They have a serious “my toys” character problem. It’s a sign of a SERIOUS lack of confidence in themselves . A DESPERATE PLEA to get Someone, Anyone to listen to their feckless words that Fall Short of anything but hate… And THAT illness is a poisonous problem in their lives. Sad really…. And Really Bad for the Soul

Honest people that keep THEIR WORD and Give Credit When it’s “ACTUALLY DUE” have GREAT PLEASURE in doing so. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT’S FOR A STAND UP AND STAND OUT JOB Such As the BEAUTIFUL Coming together of the WHOLE TEAM that FINALLY CAME TOGETHER AS A WHOLE for the most part..

  18. Obvious One Says:

Great Job Boys! PROUD OF ALL OF YOU!

    GO BUCS!

  19. GoneGator Says:

    @obviously delusional

You guys with your why can’t we all get along crap NOW. 🤣

Do you people seriously think it matters NOW that you give Todd a little credit, and you want to jump on the bus NOW after throwing rocks at it for years? We’re only reminding you of the shlt that’s come from your own keyboard over and over and over again.

You wanting to join the pom pom shaking, rose colored glasses wearing, cupcakes now? 🤣🤣🤣

“Keep in mind that a man’s just as good as his word,
It takes twice as long to build bridges you’ve burned”

  20. Clint Says:

    Dean, contract year production….LOL

  21. Esteban85 Says:

That sack fumble really was a thing of beauty. The way Dean burst off the line and dipped his shoulder under the tackle to get the sack was like a Shaq Barret sack. The thing that drove me up a wall was Logan freaking Hall standing there like the play was over as the ball rolled around on the ground right in front of his face.

  22. Aqualung Says:

GaytorGoon exhibits what happens when an immature mental midget gets hold of a hacked AOL account.

  23. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

YGuess no one saw the play where Dean hummed and hawed instead of jumping in and tackling a receiver who just hit on a big play. I have never seen a player afraid of tackling since Deon Sanders that I have seen from Dean. 2 plays don’t erase all the bad play from him.
