Todd Bowles Doesn’t Want To Be A General Manager

October 31st, 2025

Buccaneers GM Jason Licht.

Todd Bowles isn’t one of those head coaches that will become drunk with power and demand absolute control of his team.

Yes, there are NFL coaches wired that way. The NFL business is loaded with massive egos — coaches, players and suits, and media types, too, especially ones with questionable relevance.

Bowles was a guest yesterday on the iconic Ira Kaufman Podcast. Joe asked the head coach about wrestling with Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht before the Nov. 4 trade deadline, and Joe asked Bowles to explain to fans what goes on at One Buc Palace with him and Licht as the deadline approaches.

The audio of the exchange can be heard above or below.

In that trade deadline chatter, Bowles volunteered that he has no interest running the roster.

Joe thinks that’s worth noting because a lot of coaches fantasize of supreme power.

“I like my job and it’s very hard, but I would not want Jason’s job because that’s even harder — at least trying to look at all these guys and see what fits us and what you have to do,” Bowles said. “And then when the draft comes around you get mad because you say, ‘We gave up our draft pick for this guy and he didn’t do anything.’ So, there’s a lot of variables that go into that. And everybody wants something but they don’t want to give up anything. So you can’t get something for nothing in this league.”

Bowles had more to say about balancing current needs and desires versus future goals — even when you’re a head coach in midseason locked in to winning it all. Joe recommends fans take a listen.

“[Jason] does a great job at putting it all in perspective, you know, and I admire him,” Bowles said. “I admire him a great deal.”

in other words, our players are our players lol…

no trades or signings coming fellas!!!!

we’ll address todays needs in the offseason…

    6-2!!!

    GO BUCS!!!

If we do not swing a trade by the deadline, I sort of look at it as a good thing! That tells me that they are expecting some guys back (hopefully soon)!

  4. Steven007 Says:

Vinny, Judon we can get almost for free. Phillips and Chubb will cost something. Not saying we shouldn’t try if we can get a lower round pick for them.

LOL – funny line by coach Bowles

“We fought the other day – because I’m trying to get Myles Garrett and trade him for our long snapper Decker….”

I did read somewhere yesterday there are rumors the Bucs are trying to work out a deal with the Eagles to trade for AJ Brown!

Brown was asked to comment on the rumor and said the following:
““I can’t deny the Eagles are a great team. But I know deep down, I’m done emotionally with Philly. If the Buccaneers call, I’ll take the first flight to Tampa — even if it means taking a pay cut. Sometimes, it’s not about money. It’s about peace and purpose.”

Speculation is that it would take a 2nd rd pick for the Bucs to make that deal.

I would like Myles Garrett myself depending on the cost

Why would we want to add quality depth? Todd the Genius Bowles is going to get us another Championship.

6x NFC South Champions. Raise the Wild Card Banner. install a statue of Todd Bowles made of mashed potatoes in front of Ray Jay. Name a street after him. The legend has brought us years of winning 1 game over 500 here in Tampa Bay.

My have our standards fallen. Great leadership recognizes when it’s time for a new voice. Tony Dungy was fired when he couldn’t get a team full of HoFers to the Super Bowl. Sound familiar?

  8. ModHairKen Says:

    Bowles is wise.

Bringing in castoffs at this stage in hopes they rise up and deliver a SB seems like a hell of a longshot.

And anyone who another team is willing to trade is by definition risky. Why do they not want them? Money? Attitude? Will they upset the chemistry of this team?

  9. MelvinJunior Says:

Well, he has nothing to worry about there.

If they’re on another nfl team they aint just some bum of the street and they’re typically in good enough football shape.
Godwin isn’t Godwin and I doubt he will be in form this year not cause I don’t believe in him just cause he’s banged up and still trying to get his legs under him again..Mike is out till playoff maybe altogether sane goes for McMillian woth his broke neck.
Leaves us with a room full of young receivers and sterling shep..
We went from best wr room to wtf is going on.
Eu is a rookie he’s banged up.and will hit the wall.
The Johnson are good but certain teams will be bad match ups and they’re still learning the offense.
Add the fact that the oline is decimated with injuries.
This team can not stay idol I love draft picks and cheap new bloods to keep the roster fresh but theirs teams who will off load some good vets for some picks.

We need to repair the oline and get atleast a good wr for baker..if we don’t tool this offense up he will get hurt trying to do to much.
We should also be combing through free agents and kicking tires of players who still are waiting on that call.

  11. Pmike Says:

lol why would we pick up a edge? Yall know we’re 3rd in the league for sacks?? Not exactly hurting there on D…

  12. Buc1987 Says:

ModHairKen…they want to trade them because their team sucks like the Fins or Bengals for example. Why not get something for their decent players?

  13. Aqualung Says:

The fire sale thing is so tarded.

You have a good player, a certainty. And you’re gonna trade him for a draft pick that has less than 50% chance to be as good. I know teams like the Jets and Titans do it. Explains a lot.

  14. Cybersecurity_intern Says:

Like any team is offering him that position, what a joke. I bet he doesnt want to be an astronaut either.
