Tez Johnson Says Celebration Flip Was Pre-Planned, He’s Consulted With Cheerleaders

October 15th, 2025

The choreographer has spoken.

Bucs rookie Tez Johnson is loving his newfound fame. Not only did he do an on-field postgame interview with ESPN on Sunday, and a live phone interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio, the seventh-round pick was a featured interview on BSPN’s SportsCenter yesterday.

This is what happens when you dive to catch a 45-yard bomb for a touchdown and finish it off with a running backflip with a midair twist.

Johnson told SportsCenter his stepdad got him tumbling and flipping when he was 5 years old. Johnson said he got confident immediately and quickly transitioned off his bed and onto concrete and grass.

He said his stepfather essentially told him, ‘ok, now that you’re fearless, you have to be careful.’

Johnson said more flips are on the way, and they’ll be of the more impressive variety.

“I think that’s pretty much stamped now,” Johnson said of flipping after touchdowns. “I got a few tricks in the bag for the flip.”

Johnson added that the “cheerleading team” in Tampa crafted him “the Tezmanian flip” and it’s coming soon.

The catch, to me, was more spectacular than the flip.

  2. Bucfanforever Says:

And then he’ll land funny and the Bucs will be out receivers 1,2,3,4 & 6.

  3. JustOneGame Says:

    Let’s see two Monday night!

  4. buc4evr Says:

Yeah no Tez, wait until Evans and Godwin come back. How many NFL players have been sidelined for dumb non football injuries over the years.

  5. KABucs Says:

I love the flip but this does come to mind. Remember Bill Gramatica celebrating a game-winning field goal, and then he injured himself in the process?
Torn right ACL celebrating a 43 yard kick.
22 yards short of McLaughlin’s long. LOL

I think Tez might be a tad more athletic.

  6. Nicholas Carlson Says:

I’m telling you he’s gonna be a long termer for us. great hands, great routes, great with ball. He’s small but he avoids hits. His 40 was slow but he’s fast on the field.

  7. BucYou Says:

If his flips happen because he’s scoring critical TDs, then by all means, flip away.

  8. BucsNoles Says:

I don’t want to take the young mans joy – it is fun to watch him play and the flip is amazing – HOWEVER,
I would prefer he not do it. As said above, maybe he can continue after the WR room comes back to full strength.

  9. SB~LV Says:

Don’t cut your career short with anymore of those!

  10. Tim Says:

I wonder if he’s going to unveil Blue Steel at the same time.

  11. Bosch Says:

Leave the tumbling to the street entertainers. Treat every TD you make going forward as though it is not your first.

  12. MikeBuc Says:

NO too worried about flipping for his first NFL TD. I can see him eventually getting regular minutes and when that happens a coach is going to tell him to cut back the flips because we rely on you now. Despite some confusing exuberant with cocky he’s a pretty humble guy and will go with what coaches tell him.

P.S. for those of you who haven’t seen the side line conversation between receivers after Tex thought the MVP chants might be for him – its HILARIOUS.

  13. orlbucfan Says:

Tez did that flip just like a professional gymnast. No way was he in any danger of injury. Just reading about his step-dad seeing that talent when he was 5 pretty much proves it. He was celebrating, but not insulting anyone. I still chuckle over the MVP chants. Hope he has reason to do it Monday night. Go Bucs and Tez!! 6-1!!

  14. BucVoyager Says:

Sack dances are more dangerous that a back flip. Flip away young man.

  15. Gipper Says:

The NFL TD celebration stuff calls to mind the words of the great Paul Brown ; “ Act like you have done it before.” The great Jim Brown after scoring a TD would just hand the ball to the ref. The great Paul Warfield would just flip the ball to the ref. In the old days of football, there would be payback for the celebration stuff.

“”The catch, to me, was more spectacular than the flip.””

Excellent point. The catch was the real jaw dropper. I love Tez. I’m ecstatic for him. He’s got more where that came from. He’ll be scoring another TD against Detroit.

  17. Tim Says:

I know I’m old but my favorite RB of all time was Barry Sanders, despite what he used to do to my Bucs. But you know what he did whenever he scored a TD? Walk over and hand the ball to the ref. That’s it.

    Orl
… gymnasts land on a flat surface and they train 1,000’s of hours.
One little lump of turf and there goes a injury for something totally unrelated to the TEAM sport!

  19. John Sinclear Says:

Smartest guy on the team – he consults with the cheerleaders. (See Rachel Watson)

  20. Bojim Says:

We know you can do a nice one now stop please.

  21. infomeplease Says:

Young boy toy Tez is no fool!! Consulting with those hot young cheerleaders who are seething with vital hormonal secretions!! I imagine some of these consults drift into the wee hours of the night! So far so good Tez! So far so good!!👍. Keep it up Tez! Keep it up!!

  22. Aqualung Says:

Take it easy little guy. You made one play. One. Focus on keeping your head down and following Mike, Chris and Eneka’s example of what being a professional is.

Stop trying to be Tyreek Hill.

    Please. Baker needs you.

  23. bucs63 Says:

I get the excitement and expression issue.its awesome to see. But some one ought to remind him of the “act like you’ve been there” advice that some vets used to profess. For his own safety and career

  24. Neal Cooter Says:

this dude is one solid hit away from his football career being over

  25. GoneGator Says:

I wonder who posted the comments below ?

“The dwarf would be great as an aerial pass rusher, hurled by Vita at the opposing QB. But that’s it”

” Dwarfey Johnson proved he’s worse than Dexter Jackson II from app state, only worse, he sucks worse.”

    ” Some players suck.”

” Adios, little guy with the big mouth”

” Tez is like Dardung. A feel good cheer for guy. But he sucks. Is gonna suck. He’s an idiot in game situations. Like his head coich”
    ———————————-

Tez would like you to kiss his little as$ and keep his name out of your dirty mouth 🤣🤣🤣

  26. heyjude Says:

    Love this kid!

Some of us were really worried when he did the back flip. I agree with his stepfather. Gotta be careful. And Tez has more flips to come!
