Morning Cup Of Joe
October 17th, 2025Welcome to your Morning Cup of Joe, an eye-opener to help Joe’s readers ease into their busy workday with a few football links, wacky news and a pleasant distraction.
FOX keeping tight-lipped about Mark Sanchez. [PFT]
Entering last night’s game, it has been 45 years since the Steelers won on a Thursday. [CBS]
Brian Callahan was a waste. [Yahoo!]
There is no such thing in the NFL as an “interim bump” in the 21st century. [NFL]
Joe finds it hard to believe Marcus Freeman would leave Notre Dame for Penn State. Hell, he just beat Penn State in the semifinals last year. [Outkick]
James Franklin will be on College GameDay tomorrow morning. Please BSPN producers, please have the heart not to let him babble about how the develop a quarterback. Joe would trust Brian Billick with a quarterback before this guys. [Awful Announcing]
So Molly Qerim quit BSPN (allegedly) because she felt she was “lowballed” with a $500,000 annual salary. Girl, those jobs don’t come around often. Just ask Warren Sapp. Hope you had another six-figure salary lined up before you threw your arse in the air and stomped out the door. [The Sun]
So who is this woman that screamin’ Stephen A. Smith selected to replace Qerim? [SI]
Damn, this sucks: KISS original guitarist Ace Frehley died yesterday. Joe wasn’t a huge fan of KISS but liked some songs. Loved some of the songs Frehley did on his solo albums. [TMZ]
Let’s try this again: Gunnery Sgt. Hartman goes to Walmart. [TikTok]
Look at this box, man!! The Bowling Green Falcons!
As someone from Ohio… I LOVE Bowling Green! The Orange and Brown are AWESOME!
Thank you Coach George @BG_Football and PUDGE for this incredible box! Keep it rolling this season! pic.twitter.com/NnvQi7LLDH

I’m with Sarge Joe! but i may be a bit biased…
I retired to Thailand and I now have a cashier who will smile at this Farang and a store employee who rushes over to bag my groceries. Then gives me the traditional thai bow called a Wei. Took some getting used to. LOL
Go Bucs!

Sucks about Ace, only guy who could play. That’s gotta be R. Lee Ermey’s brother.

McDaniels and Tua have the leadership skills of Raheem and Freeman.

Hartman: He’s saying the words we all WANT to say, and in the manner we wish we could say it with.
Great vid – hilarious!!! Thanks Joe.

PS: I’m pretty sure the Hartman vid was AI. Soro tag on the vid kinda gives it away.
But IF real, hilarious!

I loved ace Frehley as a boy because everything he did sounded pretty cool and you could figure it out in a few seconds. Pentatonic noodling and unison bents was all you had to know.

Entering last night’s game, it has been 45 years since the Steelers won on a Thursday.
———-
They had TNF games in 1980?
Looked it up and found on Wiki, ‘ABC televised occasional Thursday night games from 1978 to 1986 as part of its Monday Night Football package.’
I have absolutely no memory of that as a kid.
I was also wondering how the Bucs weren’t on the all-time TNF loser list, and I found their record… 5-11. It’s like if the Bucs only had Ray Perkins to coach those games.
