Lavonte David Comes Up Big Again; Jason Licht Weighs In

October 12th, 2025

First-quarter film from today’s game almost scared Joe because it showed Lavonte David looking slow.

David spent all last week on the injured list with a bad knee.

But David shook off the early cobwebs to be a force in the run defense and flash his speed and instincts. David had a key 10-yard sack of Mac Jones in the fourth quarter that pushed the 49ers out of field goal range with the score Bucs 27, San Francisco 19.

That play loomed large. It also upped David’s sack total to 2 1/2 on the season.

Before kickoff, Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht talked about David and let fans know how much he does that goes unseen.

“He’s a GOAT,” Licht said of David. “It’s such a tremendous asset for us. A lot of things that the fans don’t see he does on a day-to-day basis keeping this team focuses and keeping this team driven, and keeping this team where we’re at today. He’s a tremendous, tremendous asset for our football team.

I hope he never stops playing

  3. Mhystc Says:

Re-sign him to another 1 year deal, he’s by far our best linebacker. Draft someone in this years draft. Hell.. draft 2 linebackers.

  4. TBBucFan Says:

My man! Mr. David, you’re a leader extraordinaire.

  5. SlyPirate Says:

If we’re giving out game balls:
    1. Baker – Doing MVP things
    2. Yaya – 2 SACKS!!!
    3. Dean – Game changing sack and INT
    4. LVD – Sack, INT, TFL

  6. Rob Says:

    Future hall of famer!

  7. Mhystc Says:

Also Dean is playing good this year. 2 INT, a sack.

  8. Bucs Reality Check Says:

MAKE THE DEAL FOR HENDRICKSON, JASON!!!!!

  9. Stpetematt Says:

You forgot Tez and Kam Johnson.

  10. Bucky Says:

Lavonte is the man, it did hurt a bit to see Warner go down for them because that is their LVD.

  11. David Says:

Absolutely outstanding game. I know some on the thread were complaining about the defense, but the reality is they had pressure, they had sacks with a four man rush, they had interceptions. They gave up about 5 Big Passes, that was about it. 4 times they held them to FGs. Bend don’t break. It was outstanding.

And what can you say about the offense… Couple bad passes early on but it felt like they could’ve put up over 40 — without their top 4 receivers, top running back, and right side of offensive line!!!!!!
They are crazy deep. They were down to Kam , Tez, Miller, Otton ! Still getting it done!
    Unreal.

  12. Allen Lofton Says:

Dean is playing for a new contract. The Bucs should offer him a new contract with incentives to keep him motivated and productive like he did today.

He’s a really good corner the Bucs

Way to ball out Bucs with a 11 point win with your nemesis. The Bucs kept the 49ers in check in the second half.

Detroit is next and a tougher opponent. I’m sure they will likely have them underdogs which is a motivator for Baker. GO BUCS

  13. Winny Testaverde Says:

He did look slow/labored running down the field early on…it was concerning. But boy did he pour it on…even if his strip sack was taken away curiously.

Trade 4 Trey indeed! His price should be coming down as the Bengals bungle.

  14. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

This is starting too feel like a really special year. What happens when this team starts to get healthy?

  15. Winny Testaverde Says:

And yes…Dean betting on himself will likely earn him a pile of money next season…elsewhere.

  16. ElioT Says:

    Extend Baker NOW!

  17. Aqualung Says:

Great win. LVD for the hall. Defense choked them out at the end. Nobody happier than Aqualung.

  18. GoneGator Says:

No room on the bus for a$$es that repeatedly predicted disaster and talked krap about the Head coach and our defense. And our new clutch receiver – lol.

And nobody believes you’re actually happy. Your boyfriends team got beat, Tez is making you look like a fool, Todds defense is playing great etc… Do the honorable thing and just STFU for awhile.

    LFG Bucs 5-1 !!!

  19. LakelandSteve Says:

He may have looked a little slow in the 1’st quarter but he looked like the Lavonte of old the rest of the game.

  20. 813bucboi Says:

    Eat crow aqua

    talk about that great defense

    5-1

    GO BUCS

  21. Aqualung Says:

Two of the 3Tards have weighed in. Where’s Dumb Fat Guy to complete the triangle jerk?

  22. garro Says:

Lavonte may have lost a bit of quickness but he remains a force. All the negative chatter about him seems to be from so called fans. I doubt much of it is coming from players or coaches in San Francisco. Imagine no David on this defense in the fourth quarter Sunday.

    Go Bucs!
