Kyle Trask Got A Tryout

October 15th, 2025

“Kyle, I’d call you, but we got a sixth-round pick QB out of North Dakota State on the Raiders practice squad.”

Perhaps the greatest pass of former Bucs quarterback Kyle Trask’s NFL career came against the team that just took a look at him.

The pass was incomplete, but blame that on Chris Godwin.

It was 2023, Trask entered a must-win game against the Colts in Indianapolis in a high-pressure situation. Baker Mayfield had just gotten injured on a quarterback sneak on 1st-and-goal from the 1 yard line.

What did the Bucs do? They had so much faith in Trask (and so little confidence in their running game) that they called a fade to Mike Evans in the left corner of the end zone.

The play was whistled dead after a false start.

The Bucs then ran Rachaad White up the gut on second down and then asked Trask to fire a dart to Chris Godwin in the back of the end zone on third down. The throw was extraordinary, a precision tight spiral exactly where only Godwin could grab it.

Joe had the benefit of the JumboTron replays and it was a phenomenal throw. Godwin had two hands on the ball but didn’t hold on through the catch.

The Bucs cut Trask this summer and didn’t sign him onto their practice squad.

This week, per NFL Network, Trask had a tryout with the Colts, along with drifter quarterbacks Jeff Driskel, Tanner Mordecai and Jaren Hall. Driskel had the most experience of the bunch. Trask was the highest draft pick.

The Colts signed journeyman Brett Rypien to their practice squad. The quarterback-starved Bengals cut him earlier this year.

Joe wishes Trask well.

What happened to Anthony Richardson? If nothing, Kyle should keep looking for a better opportunity. Maybe NE could use a back up #2?

  2. Leopold Stotch Says:

Anthony Richardson, fractured his orbital bone (eye socket) while stretching with an elastic band. It slipped and snapped his eye. He went to the er and is now on ir.

  3. Bucky Says:

Trask is not going to be an instant #2 haha he will be practice squad emergency 3.

  4. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

Rod Munch should sign him. Rod Munch needs t have a permanent appology attached to joeBucsFan.

  5. Gipper Says:

Colts have had good success with Daniel Jones. Maybe lighting strikes twice? If this is something that KT wants, hope things work out for him.

  6. BigBoiBuc Says:

Wish him luck. He did everything right while here. Was a good teammate, just not gonna beat out Baker. I still think he is a better #2 than Bridgewater.

  7. D-Rok Says:

I’ve heard of freak training accidents but fracturing your face when an elastic stretching band breaks? Now that’s a freak accident.

Back to the story, I wish Trask well. I think there is a niche, a unique spot for him, somewhere in the league. Thinking of Baker’s journey and just look at him now.

  8. Bucagator Says:

I always thought Kyle would get a chance somewhere since the competition between him and Baker was fairly close.

  9. Oxycondomns Says:

so the narrative from gator fans went from he was never given a chance with the number 1s to he should be given a chance somewhere as a practice squad qb

  10. jcscycles Says:

He has been a slow starter all of his career. Maybe this will work out.

And it was never close with Baker. You can see that every Sunday…!

  11. Joseph C Simmons Says:

Trask needs reps. I honestly think he should consider the UFL. He’d win a starting job there, get some reps, and some NFL team will give him a #2 backup job. At that point he’s only a play away.

He had the bad luck to play behind incredibly durable QBs his entire career.

  12. Frank Says:

A lot of delusional gator fans in here. His talent is average, and his experience is nothing. He’s a journey practice squad guy, who one day may get some love reps, but nothing more. The gators simply do not produce good NFL QBs. (No Tebow was not a good NFL QB).

  13. BA’s Red Pen Says:

Kyle Trask is a great guy. Kyle Trask is not a NFL caliber player. He’s not choosing to be unemployed by the league because he’s waiting for the right situation. That is complete nonsense. I’m not sure what step The Occult of Trask is in the grieving process, but I wish them well & a speedy recovery in their difficult times.

  14. infomeplease Says:

So it only took a third of the season before KT got a chance to try out to be a practice squad QB. I guess that beats working in Walmrt.

  15. Let ‘em bake Says:

Kyle needs to take the Matt corral path. Ufl.

  16. Hodad Says:

He needs to show what he has, if anything, in another league. Isn’t there another spring league coming? If so, Trask needs to see if he can get a start on one of the teams. There’s also the CFL. Kurt Warner, Brad Johnson proved themselves in the Euro league before getting a shot in the NFL. Trask needs to do the same.

  17. Aqualung Says:

Driskel was another Gator QB who can’t play at the NFL level. AR15 the latest bust out of my Alma mater. And now Lagway is regressing. It’s really uncanny how Brissett is the most successful Gator QB in the NFL.

  18. MelvinJunior Says:

All the “Trask-HATE” on this site has been awfully hard to comprehend. Just the amount of ‘glee’ that he was cut, or didn’t make it, and etc. Makes no sense. Also, the vitriol. It’s very VERY odd. Towards ANY player. Especially, as an “ADULT.” It’s just very strange.

  19. darengibo Says:

Hope it works out for him. Seemed like a team guy, and heck, there are a lot worse professions than backup QB. This has been Bakers gig since the day he walked into one buc, but it is now fully entrenched with him as the FRANCHISE QB. I feel in near future, Trask will be QB for NY Jets….

  20. Baker Bowl Says:

    @Aqua

Really depends how you define success. Even with virtually no NFL career, it’s easily Tebow #1 for me. Shout out Jacoby Brisket too.

If we’re talking NFL career, give me Mr. Brisket.

  21. 813bucboi Says:

    GOOD LUCK TRASK!!!!

    6-1!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  22. Jeff and Jack's grandpa Says:

If he was half as good as the Traskh boys think he is he’d be on a team already

  23. SmokyMountainBucsFan Says:

Maybe Trask should try another position, he’d be a big target at te/wr. A few of our former MIGHTY FLORIDA GATOR QB’S made the move, Tebow, Franks…
Atleast they tried. The NFL is for elite athletes, especially QB & skilled positions.

  24. toopanca Says:

The Colts are looking to good to want to give them any kind of a boost in case we play them in the Super Bowl which is an extreme longshot, of course.

I hope that Trask goes to the Bengals and becomes their next Carson Palmer.

  25. BucVoyager Says:

Trask probably wouldn’t make a good TE. He doesn’t have the body type that Tebow has. Trask is more of a QB than Tebow was though.

  26. Aqualung Says:

Baker Bowl, Tebow clearly Florida’s best QB. Talking NFL success here, as you observed, it’s got to be Brissett.

  27. Bee Says:

Good luck to Kyle. In the right situation with a little more and who knows, he could catch fire. Baker did it.

  28. StormyInFl Says:

So I read this and came away with “Trask got a tryout, but the Colts chose Brett Rypien instead.

As for the Trask Hate – it’s because of the insufferable Gator fan base that insisted he got hosed, when he didn’t. The same ones who thought the Bucs should have pissed away an entire season while “seeing what he has” while playing with the ones was a good idea. The same ones who wanted Mayfield benched in his favor less than a quarter into game one. Go review the gameday thread for that nonsense.

    That’s why all the hate.

If he’d been from Outer BFE State, no one would have cared.

Bottom line – He simply isn’t an NFL quarterback.

  29. Marine Buc Says:

The Trask Train is rolling baby!

    Next stop – the UFL.

    Good luck Kyle.

  30. Larrd Says:

Rex Grossman took a Lovie Smith coached team to a Siper Bowl. Maybe the best ever!

    ^^^^^^^^

Uh, has New England given him a tryout? No? What does that tell you?

  32. Donald G Says:

I agree Melvin jr. Does it really matter where he went to college? Maybe we have butt hurt non gator fans on here Too bad so sad lol. Point is Kyle was a Buccaneer
