Josh Grizzard Hits A New Level
October 5th, 2025So arguably the biggest Bucs question entering the 2025 season surrounded rookie playcaller Josh Grizzard, the 35-year-old promoted to fill the big shoes of Liam “El Serpiente” Coen.
Last year, the Bucs averaged 29.5 points per game.
While Grizzard has more to prove after five games, Joe believes “Grizz” took a massive step forward today, outsmarting one of the game’s best defensive minds and showing creativity, calm, and trust in his battered offensive line. And Grizzard wove more weapons into his gameplan.
Obviously, Grizzard saw opportunity in the Seattle defense for tight end Cade Otton. The Bucs went early to Otton (for a change) and he finished with 4 catches for 81 yards. He had caught only 6 balls for 34 yards entering the game.
The Bucs offense was very unpredictable. Kameron Johnson even lined up in the backfield with Rachaad White, and Grizzard found ways to turn playbook-challenged rookie Tez Johnson into a weapon. Tez Johnson got his first significant action on offense, catching all four targets sent his way for 59 yards.
The playbook opened more. Joe even saw core elements of the Mike McDaniel offense show up. (Yeah, Joe watches a lot of Dolphins football and McDaniel mentored Grizzard.)
Through five games, the Bucs are averaging 27 points.
That total wasn’t nearly enough today, as the Bucs’ defense was godawful. But if Grizzard can keep that pace going, the Bucs will be winning a lot more games.
Joe loves how Grizzard ran right behind his backup offensive linemen to set up the game-winning field goal with a big gain. And the offense bounced back with a big day on third down (7-of-11).
Baker Mayfield looks more comfortable and confident than ever, and Joe has to credit some of that to his offensive coordinator.
Grizzard sure looks like a smart choice.

Baker is going to make him a head coach.
October 5th, 2025 at 8:35 pm
Ugh. How bout those first 4 drives
October 5th, 2025 at 8:35 pm
Fix the defense and special teams. Unbelievable though, with the injuries they’ve racked up. Frustrating at times but wow! 4-1
October 5th, 2025 at 8:37 pm
Like anything else, the more you do it the better you will get. Except if you are the ST coach.
October 5th, 2025 at 8:37 pm
“What about those first 4 drives” dude it’s the NFL and they racked up 38 points. What an asinine response
October 5th, 2025 at 8:37 pm
we went from a Joke of a franchise to one of the best run organizations in 5 years.
It feels so good to have stability

38 Without Evans, Bucky, McMillan, Goedeke & Mauch
October 5th, 2025 at 8:39 pm
We are on our way to greatness one step at a time. Remember fans the offense is playing with backups.
4-1
LFG!!!!
October 5th, 2025 at 8:43 pm
Now realize a no call illegal hip drop that the player was fined for and we could be 5-0.

This was a very feel good win! The D is hurting us but the O has grown some balls! I think Baker has set the example for the offense! All out every play. BUT, where is the defense? This team used to be noted for its D. Now the D seems to be our weakness. When we get some of best O players back we have one the most talented offenses in the league led by one of the most dynamic qbs. What is the problem with the D???
October 5th, 2025 at 8:46 pm
Should of kept Coen and got rid of Bowles
October 5th, 2025 at 8:46 pm
The offense is sound. A few surprises made the day. Great communication between Grizzard and Mayfield. And Baker was in command today.
Go Bucs!!
October 5th, 2025 at 8:48 pm
We are grinding and finding ways to win. We still haven’t put it all together in all phases, but hopefully we get healthier and get it all figured out.
October 5th, 2025 at 8:50 pm
Seattle was playing with backups in their entire defensive backfield. But unlike a similar situation with Pittsburgh a few years ago we were smart enough to take advantage of it.

If he keeps this up we can’t let him go!! Baker MVP go bucs 💪💪
October 5th, 2025 at 9:05 pm
Where is Bucnot4life the Grizz hater. Such it.
October 5th, 2025 at 9:09 pm
There you are Jeff so now you are 1-4 on your Bucs picks. Maybe you need to use reverse psychology and actually pick them to win you little idiot
October 5th, 2025 at 9:11 pm
Gonna disagree here Joe. I think Grizz gets bailed out by our offensive talent and Baker. He needs to stop all these lateral plays – both run and pass. Everybody sees them coming and we lost a on of harass on them today. H s already burned out Bucky and look out for EE getting overused.
October 5th, 2025 at 9:14 pm
Neither team had much of a pass rush and it showed
October 5th, 2025 at 9:21 pm
some weird jet sweeps and back passes there were tackled for loss, keep it simple and dominate grizz!!
October 5th, 2025 at 9:47 pm
and how about those deep balls and big chunk plays
October 5th, 2025 at 9:53 pm
….Grizzard listened to getting Otton more involved…and there’s STILL people complaining.
At the end of the day, the people like that are miserable in their own lives and are projecting.
So, if this describes you, just know that the problem is inward, not outward.

Gritty does not presume no talent. But grit plus talent equals superstar
October 5th, 2025 at 10:46 pm
I suppose some of you think Randy Moss was overused. How can 7 targets out of 33 passes be overuse.
October 5th, 2025 at 10:47 pm
This forever Dolphins fan and Bucs fan is just so happy right now.
October 5th, 2025 at 11:09 pm
Nice recap, Joe. Somehow, got her done.
October 5th, 2025 at 11:11 pm
The offense was lights out. Baker played at an MVP level. The defense, well they didn’t make the flight to Seattle. Our Special teams are not special. At least we did t get a punt or field goal blocked. However, we will be looking for a new kicker soon if he keeps on having to make tackles on kickoffs. He got trucked on one and I wasn’t sure he would get up. So it was a win and gives us a little room in the standings. The Bucs may make the playoffs but won’t go far if we can’t get someone who can rush the passer.

DEFENCE WAS A NO SHOW . THATS ON BOWLS .SPECIAL TEAMS GIVING UP BIG RUN BACKS. NEED A D COACH AND NEW SPECIAL TEAMS COACH .SOMETHING HAS TO CHANGE BIG TIME. MONE OF THIS WAIT AND SEE CRAP.

Great win for the Bucs in Seattle. Kudos to Baker with snother minute closing victory. Baker is money $$$ and is going to lead the Bucs to the Super Bowl as I told my family and friends as this season started. This also included my nephews the Abare twins who played football at Yale with Josh Grizzard who the lads know well and speak very hlghly of him. He is doing a great job and has a master pro & gritty, tough nails veteran
In my main man, Baker M.
Go BUCS
