“Individual Circumstances”

October 23rd, 2025

Rookie cornerback Jacob Parrish

Joe already mentioned that Team Glazer should launch a blue ribbon investigation into why Bucs defensive players have been falling down more than usual this season.

At halftime of the 49ers game two Sundays ago, Bowles told a national television audience that his defense would be a lot better if players could stop landing on the grass in Tampa.

On fake grass Monday night in Detroit, the Bucs defense had a case of the fallsies again.

Rookie cornerback Jacob Parrish was taken down by the turf monster as Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown got a free ride into the end zone. (Video below). And there were more issues with footing on defense than just Parrish.

Todd Bowles talked about it on his weekly radio show (Joe listens on SiriusXM).

“Oh, we fell down on the touchdown; that was one of the plays we fell down on,” Bowles said. “If you take away that, you kind of limited  [St. Brown]. … So we played decent football when we didn’t step on our own foot.

Buccaneers Radio Network host Casey Phillips astutely asked Bowles if this was a case of “a few individual circumstances” or a turf-related situation.

With a hint of a wiseguy tone in his voice, Bowles replied, “individual circumstances.”

Joe doesn’t think the Bucs should assume guys falling is just a lot of bad luck and poor form. There may be a shoe-related issue.

Those who have listened to Bucs games on radio know analyst and former Bucs tight end Dave Moore has given many sermons on types of cleats for different types of grass. Again, the Bucs might want to consult with a fresh set of eyes.

It’s called loafing most of the time!!! or afraid to tackle!!! don’t they warm up before games. There is no reason these professional athletes should be slipping and sliding like we’re witnessing. Players on my son’s High school team don’t slip that much!! C’mon now!! Go Bucs

  2. Nutterbutter95 Says:

Its a sign of poor breaking down and not having your weight under you when going to the point of attack. You can’t shift to the offensive players cuts if you arent stable.

What blows my mind is how simple football can be, and that fundamental things that are taught in high school are blown all the time in the pros. Poor tackling is one, blowing contain on a quaterback in the pocket is another. The amount of times I have seen qbs manage to roll out of pocket due to poor outside leverage at the nfl level is sickening

  3. infomeplease Says:

Who ever is suggesting the kinds of cleats to wear have been doing a horrible job. This is every game too. Even when weather has no effect. The Buc’s need to look at this instead of dismissing it as a non issue!! Every game!

  4. Buc king Says:

I don’t understand why players can’t compute how to contain and blow up.a play.
Is it Todd’s defense is he not in the film room with them enough coving it?
They don’t contain or play down hill defense.
    Let’s just be real here…
So many over ran tackles and no gap control Dennis being one of the main but not only culprit.
It’s lile they have no idea how to adjust their roles to the defense play call to the offense play.
Like when to read you covering a dead zone now go get aggressive in coverage or know who is responsible for dropping back.
The lions secondary dad 2nd and 3rd string guys covering up are whole team creating the time for baker to get pressured..yes our oline looked like trash…….. horrible trash…
But still the secondary for the lions played down hill team tackle and was hitting hard.

Our secondary looks beat off the snap..holding..always a wide receiver in the middle or cutting across…
The guys are catching the ball not even joking and our defensive guys are over running them.
It’s like my brother said watching the game it’s like we’re not taught angles to the ball or contain.
You should know where your help is..smart football uses things to your advantage..trusting your team to do its job..
I think Dennis has proved he’s not that guy..we obviously need help on the dline only 2 out 4 look good most the time..
Secondary is lack luster at best..Dean has turned it on the rest well they look overwhelmed but a not that great of strategy honestly.
I like Todd as dcord coach but as a head coach I’m curious to how well he’s finger is on the pulse.
He’s been going around this week talking poorly on the offense strategy but let’s be real…
You got guys playing way more snaps then they should..few times wide receiver running into each other.
The Johnson good to sprinkle in but they aint full time ready know the playbook players.
Eg God McMillian Evans all injured shep obviously gkt a issue too.
That leave you with white in otton..o like was dominated so no run gane worth mentioning and ott been getting froze out the offense literally let a db snatch it out his hands that was 1/3 his size.
I could micro analyze this game to death but offense lacks its weapons and defense lack iq and team work.
If I was Jason I pick up wr tenn just released and trade for lb and potential edge threat..
Time is now to incest into this year when healthy again we will be a playoff threat assuming we get Mike n Chris back healthy enough to be threats.
My heart pains know Mike won’t get his 1k this season.

  5. El hefe Says:

How many times has any of you guys seen Jacob Parish make a mistake just be real with yourself since we’ve seen him on the defense. How many times have you seen him make a mistake

  6. Beeej Says:

I remember during the game, thinking why don’t you look and see what the Lions players are wearing and get ones out of the bag that look like THOSE?

  7. Bee Says:

Does anyone remember seeing the Lions players slip and fall? I don’t. Bad excuses from Bowles.

  8. Daryl Green Says:

I keep telling ya’ll this team is not fundamentally sound. It’s horrible to watch.

  9. Tucker Says:

With glorified walk through practices when you don’t work on fundamentals and tackling how would you stay sharp during the season answer is you don’t obviously.

  10. Redzone Says:

How bout not putting a rookie cb 1-on1 with an all-pro slot receiver

How about the concept of rallying to the football

They talk all the time about bracketing Mike Evans – why not try tha against an opponent’s best wr?

    Bad defensive game planning

  11. Fanofdabucs Says:

The forearm push off by St Brown didnt help

  12. buc4evr Says:

Agreed, the defense is not good with fundamentals. Angles, tackling, toughness. Not there. This team needs someone like Sapp, Lynch, Brooks, Suh, JPP or Sim. Hell even Nickerson or Quarles.

BTW, Shaq tried out with the Colts today. Jason needs to take a look. Can’t be worse than Braswell, Reddick, Voss. lol. Old man Shaq might be a good backup…?

  13. Rod Munch Says:

Fell down, pushed down, same difference when the refs rig the game.

  14. Lou. Says:

I don’t see this play as a shoe issue.

The WR/NB are together neck-and-neck up to and past the 5 yards. WR flattens the route and extends his arm to push against Parrish’s hip, and down goes NB. You could call it hand-fighting but it looks more like defensive pass interference.

    Prove me wrong. 🤓

  15. Idroolpewter&red Says:

First thing I thought of when I heard about the slips and falls was shoes. Playing soccer in college, I used screw in cleats and kept at least one set of short, medium & long cleats with me when on the road.

  16. buc4evr Says:

Can’t prove you wrong Lou, lots of illegal hand play by Lions secondary. The play when ME13 got hurt was a particularly bad example of PI and not even called. Geez if I was HC I would be screaming at the Refs, Gruden style. lol. Remember when Sapp was so pissed off at the refs, he dumped a whole table of gatorade so the refs couldn’t get a drink. Classic. We need meaner players and coaches that don’t that anything from other teams or the Refs.

  17. Joe in Michigan Says:

Getting beat. It’s called getting beat, not falling down. Yes, Dennis falls down a lot after he’s been beat.

  18. Joe in Michigan Says:

Bowles: “If you take away that”…That sounds exactly like something Lovie Smith would say. Not good, as simple as that.

  19. Buc king Says:

I just want Todd to get more involved in the defense..hes had what 6yrs or so to make it his defense..they play well against the run..not really good against mobile qbs but they stuff great runners most days..not so much last game but… tackling and bad angles are cost us the most…
Some days you gotta beat the other team and the refs.

  20. PewterStiffArm Says:

When it comes to the San Francisco game I did a little research and USF had not played on the field the previous evening. So what gives. Years ago Raymond James stadium was the talk of the NFL when it came to the presentation of the playing field, not anymore. The field seems spongy and you would think we could take advantage since it is our house. There is another NFL team that is trying to ban college football the day before they play their home games, I just don’t remember what team it was. Regarding cleats, if the team hasn’t adjusted yet, shame on them. And if we continue to give up plays because of slippage, shame on the organization. Get involved Glazers!!

  21. dbbuc711 Says:

    Cleats

  22. Aqualung Says:

Todd should get less involved in the defense, he sucks at it. Hire a full time DC and then he can see what being a real head coach is like. Maybe he’d suck at that too.

  23. ChiBuc Says:

The slip is bad, but let’s talk about the over the top help from AWJ. Goff never takes his eyes off of St. Brown. The start of Goff’s throw is enough to get AWJ to move away of the lions’ greatest receiving/yac threat. I’m sorry, but 1 amazing play every 5th game or so is not enough to be the highest paid player at your position

  24. Obvious One Says:

That’s Exactly what I noticed through the game (tripping and falling down). Especially in the first half. Right away saw a lineman (I believe) lose his footing, slip and fall. There was a Very Noticeable Mayfield trip and fall with Nobody around that even touched him. There was the VERY NOTICEABLE “St. Brown incident” where Parish took a nose dive. And I kept speaking to tv about Changing Cleats! Of course my TV didn’t listen to me and it seems the coaches and players were content with CONSTANTLY falling on their Faces for no apparent reason as if we were at the Circus and watching the Clown Show, or a Cartoon where someone stepped on a Bannana Peel, and yet they Still didn’t change cleats… Maybe at the half?

SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY UP..WITH THE TURF AND OUR GUYS NOT BEING ABLE TO DEAL WITH IT! It bit us in the a$$ MANY TIMES and Cost us Dearly!

Just another way we found to lose on Monday night. Nothing and I Mean NOTHING went our way through in Any Phase of the game in the first half, except the field goal that barely made it through the uprights.

It certainly Wasn’t much better in the second half and “Our Luck” finally RAN OUT..

    The Monday night curse Remains!

  25. Obvious One Says:

I’m also wondering how much of an affect it had on our O line….How about the guys running right past the receivers and running backs? Watched Morrison COMPLETELY MISS one of them because he couldn’t stop to maneuver.. Saw others with the same tackling issues… I’m having a funny feeling that we should be Considering the possibilities just a bit more… I might have EVERYTHING to do with the type and depth of cleats the club was wearing vs guys who KNOW HOW to negotiate their own turf…. Because WE SURE DIDN’T and BOY DID IT SHOW!

  26. JoshFreemanFan Says:

Genuine question, why do they not practice indoors on the turf the whole week leading up to @Detroit, @Atlanta, @New Orleans, etc? Seems like it would get guys acclimated at least marginally better

  27. Joe Says:

Genuine question, why do they not practice indoors on the turf the whole week leading up to @Detroit, @Atlanta, @New Orleans, etc? Seems like it would get guys acclimated at least marginally better

    Bad for the knees.

  28. Jimbo Says:

It’s not just NBA players. What’d you think would happen when they legalized sports gambling?????

  29. Jeffrey Becker Says:

it was the offense too. everyone was falling down. noticed it from first five minutes on. shoes wrong for that turf apparently. prolly Lions secret weapon. slick field.

  30. garro Says:

Falling down is a terrible excuse. get yourself in good shape, good position and maybe you don’t…fall down. Coach used to make fun of the grass tackles.

    Go Bucs!

  31. Hodad Says:

Maybe they should practice indoors on turf when they have an indoor game? Paying the rent on the Glazer shed, and Bowles is to stupid to use it. First two games were on the road in domes and Bowles has them outside in 100 degree heat killing themselves. Just plain dumb.
