Gronk Credits Baker Mayfield For Emeka Egbuka Dominance

Emeka Egbuka

Yes, Rob Gronkowski finally figured out how to pronounce Emeka Egbuka after tanking the Bucs rookie’s name in a viral moment during a FOX studio show.

Gronk screwed up Egbuka’s last name and called him egg-BIG-boo. He was immediately called out and shamed, and later explained to the Up & Adams show that he was worn out from a long day and once played youth ball with a kid named “egg-BIG-boo.” So he thinks he just got momentarily confused.

Regardless, Gronk was clearheaded with Kay Adams yesterday and acknowledged that Baker Mayfield is a strong MVP candidate..

“Baker Mayfield, what he has done for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he’s loved in that organization, but he also brings some sense of aura, some sense of juice to the table that elevates everyone else’s play,” Gronk said. “And I think that’s the No. 1 special trait that he has. Yes, he’s playing great ball, but when you can elevate people around you, that’s what makes you great. And that’s what he’s been doing. And that’s why these Buccaneers have been phenomenal.”

Gronk took the Mayfield appreciation a step further, noting it’s Mayfield who deserves a lot of credit for Egbuka’s big start.

“You just don’t have any rookies come in and just dominate like that unless they feel comfortable, especially around the quarterback,” Gronk said.

RIP Chuck Barris. Loved the Grong Show

Also don’t underestimate Evans and Godwin supporting Meka.

I don’t know but some of these passes have been dimes and some of the catches have been super special. Greatest show in football right now, just sit back and enjoy the ride. Hopefully for years to come.

Sounds like Gronk is on the BM6 for MVP train!

  5. DungyDance Says:

Really need to see some progress on Baker’s contract. Going to turn into a Dak contract if he waits too long, and then there’s that much less to work with for everyone else in future years.

Love Godwin, but man, he sure is injury prone. Bucs should have invested his salary on an edge rusher.

  7. Billy Bucco Says:

Wish he would have had this admiration for him earlier and was still playing.
Either way, it’s the best combo to watch in all of football right now and it’s our team, which is so cool to see.

When you hit on a player of this caliber it’ sets you up for years to come.

    Also don’t forget about Tez.
I remember watching Davante Adams one time go back and forth in motion and when they realized the slot guy was following him, it was a matter of out leveraging him back to the corner and Rodgers hit him perfectly. I think that is a way to use Tez’s speed down there. He is so freakin quick man.

This team can win it all this year and next if they get healthy and swing the right trade either at OLB or LB.

I have pretty much come to the conclusion it does no good to trade or even pay big bucks for and edge rusher UNLESS our coaches determine they will use him correctly. I do miss the pressures ala Shaq and JPP!

All is remember is being in these comments reading all the Baker hate..
Boy how the comments have changed!

Drew – There are many of us on here that have loved Baker way before coming to the Bucs.

  11. BucVoyager Says:

I hate when people call a player injury prone when he was injured on a dirty play. Dirty play on both injuries at that.

  12. orlbucfan Says:

@BucVoyager, your statement can not be repeated enough. Amen!

  13. Gipper Says:

    BucVoyager,

You really got that right. Surprised that Roquan Smith is still in the NFL after that dirty, illegal tackle that may have ended CG14 career. Not sure Roquan got anything other than a reprimand. Not enough has been said or reported about what Smith did. Where is the media when we need them? We know from the political tenor in this country that most of the media is a bunch of absolute frauds.

I wanna know why the front office and owners haven’t welcomed Gronk to be around the team and facility any time he would like. Since he retired, it sounds like he’s still always in Tampa and has tried to be apart of the Bucs. I’m not talking about owning or coaching, but being around the facility and players. He’s will always go down as a Pat, but if he wants to be around the Bucs let him in and help all the young guys. Dude won a Super Bowl here and has a great argument as the greatest tight end of all time. Has a great work ethic and the perfect attitude for this franchise and what they’re building. Give him the keys to the building and make him a part of the family!
