Chucky: Baker Mayfield = Brett Farve
October 18th, 2025
“Hey Glazers, those new contracts you gave Jason Licht and Todd Bowles ain’t enough. That was brilliant of them to believe in Baker Mayfield. Jiminy Christmas!”
Once upon a time, Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach and member of the Buccaneers Ring of Honor, Chucky, was a wide receivers coach for the Packers.
Who was the Packers’ quarterback? Brett Favre.
So Chucky got to know the future Hall of Fame quarterback quite well
Fast forward to this past summer. Chucky was at the controlled scrimmage the Bucs had with the Titans and on the sidelines. He got a first-hand look at how Baker Mayfield operates.
And Chucky said the way Mayfield is leading the Bucs to the best record in the NFC, Chucky believes Mayfield is the new Favre. Appearing on “Pardon My Take” with co-hosts “Big Cat” and “PFT Commenter,” Chucky explained why he’s Baker Mayfield’s biggest fan.
“We were on that Fox show (“Wakeup Barstool” on FS1) and they asked me who I thought the MVP would be, and I said, if we did it today, it’d be Baker.
“I just compare him to Brett Farve when we were in Green Bay. He brought life to the huddle, to the practice field. He gave the defense hope. ‘If we just get the ball back for this guy. He’ll figure it out.’
“And then he’s kind of a combination between Farve and Rocky Balboa. I mean, this guy takes punches, man. He gets hit. He keeps getting up. Yeah.
“You take away his running back, you take away his two tackles, you take away all his receivers, you put him behind — he is a son of a b!tch when it comes right down to it.”
There is no question Mayfield’s teammates have sort of taken on his personality. The Bucs have transformed from a team that could be physical with Tom Brady as quarterback to a team that is physical with Mayfield at quarterback.
Joe has had many defensive players say Mayfield’s style, laying it all on the field to get a first down and score, someetimes running over linebackers, gets them amped up.
Whatever the Bucs do the rest of the way, including the postseason, a big reason for that success is Mayfield.

The biggest knock on Favre was interceptions. Baker sure seems to have learned that discipline. He definitely could be one of the all-time greats. Just keep baking!

Thank you Cleveland Browns! Man, what a dumpster fire of an organization.
Thank you Carolina Panthers! Just being you was enough.
Thank you LA Rams! Appreciate you giving Baker the job interview for the league to witness!
Thank you Coach Bowles! Your persistence to get Baker here was vital!
Thank you Jason Licht! Ring of honor for you sir!
And thank you Baker Mayfield for bringing the toughness, leadership, and fun to Tampa!

Joe heard a Browns apologist say last week, “Well, the Panthers and Sean McVay didn’t want him?”
Dumb SOB! Matt Rhule also didn’t want Christian McCaffrey, Sam Darnold of D.J. Moore.
McVay already had Matt Stafford!

I would not say Farve was the best quarterback of all time, but he might have been the best combination of ‘greatness’ and ‘fun to watch.’ Baker’s right up there with him.

Durango, that was poetic. Excellent.

Except Baker doesn’t appear to be the sh&^ human being that Favre apparently was.
