Bruce Arians Lauds Josh Grizzard; Changes Tune On Todd Bowles
October 14th, 2025
Josh Grizzard
So two weeks ago Bucco Bruce Arians was pounding a drum for Liam “El Serpiente” Coen as the most worthy head coach of the year candidate.
And this is another reason why Joe calls it BSPN, the network on which Arians appears every Tuesday to talk all things NFL via The Pat McAfee Show.
Today, Arians flipped the script and said Todd Bowles is his current pick for the NFL Coach of the Year honor. But Arians also described his appreciation for the guy who replaced Coen in Tampa, rookie Bucs playcaller Josh Grizzard.
“I think Josh Grizzard is doing an amazing job,” Arians said. “When you don’t have your right side of your offensive line and your top-four receivers, and you score 30 points against the Niners, you’re doing a hell of a job.”
During a sitdown on a Barstool gambling show last year, Arians said Coen was doing one of the greatest jobs he’s ever seen from a rookie playcaller who installed a new offensive system.
Now Grizzard has taken that system and tweaked it so players can play faster and more deep shots are taken. It’s working. The Bucs are averaging 27.5 points per game.
Joe loves how the Bucs give Arians free time from his important role as senior advisor to the general manager to mingle with the media.

Let’s hope we don’t need another OC this off season.

Baker the King Maker.
In all seriousness, I’m sure Licht is working on compiling a list of names to replace Grizzard. Playoff teams coaching staffs get raided every year.
Funny how nobody from the Todd Bowles defensive coaching tree ever gets an interview. Almost everyone from the Dungy/Kiffin staff got either head coach or defensive coordinator jobs elsewhere.

Paratrooper Buc we’re gonna need a new OC next year. Josh is working his way to a head coaching job quickly. It’s all good though, it shows the Bucs hire the right people. Whoever is the passing game/3rd down evaluator, they need to be ready to be next in line.
Go Bucs !

Glazers and Mason make it worth Grizz’s while to stay. It can be done. It should be done.

If Coen manages to fix Trevor Lawrence and leads the Jags to the playoffs there’s a compelling case for him.
If Baker continues his MVP campaign and Bowles manages the team through all these injuries then he has a compelling case.
Ask BA in 6 weeks and see what he says then

I love the fact that the Bucs created a position for Bruce Arians. He has tended not to meddle with Todd Bowles. He can do big picture “dreaming” and offer other perspectives for Jason Light. Everyone is enjoying their jobs. It is the win-win situation the organization needed.
Go Bucs!!

Like it or not Joe, Coen seems to be a good HC, probably better than Bowles but thats another story.
October 14th, 2025 at 7:30 pm
I watched several episodes of the Pat McAfee Show but had to stop because it was annoying. For some reason, the sound would go out for extended periods of time. I’m talking 30 seconds or more, during a rant or a discussion. I assumed a lot of f bombs were flying but it didn’t seem that way with my amateur lip reading. Anyone have any ideas? It only happens on that show, so it’s not my TV.
And yeah, Bowles for Coach of the Year if the Bucs continue and avoid the mid-season slump they seem to love. Coen is a good choice but I think adapting and overcoming so much adversity puts Bowles in front.

NJBucsfan23,
I think he will definitely get interviews. I hope we can retain him for at least another year, if not 2. I just think the continuity would be such a boon for the offense.

^^^^
I suspect his senior advisor ID building pass card works by invitation only.

WilleG. McAfee is on a 7 seecond tape delay. They drop f bombs not silenced. i think some rants or takes might not go with BSPN liberal standards and they are being censored?
October 14th, 2025 at 7:50 pm
With the injuries they have/had, sitting 5-1, having beaten probably 3 playoff teams, he should be front runner
October 14th, 2025 at 7:50 pm
Grizz has done a great job so far….. looks like I predicted (and hoped) it would the last 2 games, thanks in large part to TODD.
I still say Coens a pretender. He may have peaked last week. Lets see him after a year of film on his squads in Jax. When’s the last time the guy stayed in one place more than a year and did anything ? His defense has bailed him out this season.

Todd Bowles for coach of the year !!!
No brainer!!!
6-1
GO BUCS

Joe … ‘Now Grizzard has taken that system and tweaked it so players can play faster and more deep shots are taken. It’s working. The Bucs are averaging 27.5 points per game.’
The ‘more deep shots’ intrigued me Joe. It seems obvious watching the games that Baker is in fact throwing deep more often than last season, but I had no clue how much we’d be talking about.
According to Pro-Football-Reference, the Bucs threw the ball deep 19 times in the first 6 games last season, and completed 8 of those (42.1%). This season they’ve thrown it deep 47 times in our first 6 games, and completed 19 of those. That means that Baker’s already attempted two-and-a-half times as many deep throws in our first 6 games as he did last season in our first 6 games. That’s pretty dramatic IMO. And even though his completion percentage is roughly the same (40.4% vs 42.1%), he’s completed a LOT more passes (19 vs 8). THAT’S IMPRESSIVE

Thanks Dewey. You’re probably right.

I haven’t been a fan of Bowles because I expected the Bucs to have strong defenses under him. However, under 3 different OCs, we’ve been solid or better as an offense. Recent developments make me think Bowles is building depth that suits his preference in defensive Style and it might turn out to be good on the overall financial cap in the long run and over the years.
I’m all in either way. Let’s go BUCS!
October 14th, 2025 at 8:40 pm
I would like to see them run for 150, or at least start being more consistent running.
October 14th, 2025 at 8:52 pm
33 points per game gets u wins in this league at a 90-95 percent rate.
October 14th, 2025 at 9:35 pm
Grizzrd keeps performig like he is, we will have yet another OC next year. There will be at least 3 or 4 openings for HC after this season

JTHv Says:
Just 2 weeks ago Bucs fans were on this here corner of the interwebs griping Karens about how many Eagles fans were in the Bucs home stadium
I was in my usual seat in 212 looking across the field and there was a good amount of 49ers fans but they were outnumbered by the amount of empty seats that nobody bought to attend.
Final notice: If you don’t buy a ticket to be a past of the solution, stay at home and watch the game on your $500 95” entry level Samsung and enjoy yourself, but shut your ucking yapper about away teams fans or Buc fans selling their tix
You belong at your home with your cheap trash TV, not yapping about what other men do with their time
By a tix or shut your yapper

Bruce Arians is also on a board at Virginia Tech. He was a quarterback at Virginia Tech…

I get tired of hearing people bad mouth Bowles defense. This isn’t the league it was 10 years ago. Everything in the nfl is about promoting the offenses. When you compare our defense to the rest of the league, we’re right in the middle and we’ve been playing without key corners and a dominant tackle. We’re awesome against the run and we’re getting healthy and better against the pass. Gotta give Bowles a ton of credit.
October 14th, 2025 at 10:15 pm
Right in the middle its where you want to be, have you checked where the Falcons offense and defense is ranked? Max we go this year is conference finals, if that. Unless our def improves a ton.
October 14th, 2025 at 10:17 pm
@JHTV $500 TV, are you crazy? $300 is the most i can afford.
October 14th, 2025 at 10:19 pm
We are going to lose Grizzard to Miami or Tennessee. Hate to say that, but Todd Bowles and JL have been on an amazing run of picking a bunch of no name OCs who turn into HCs. And let’s not forget the Baker Mayfield’s contributions to all their successes… the man should get MVP this year based on getting OCs a Head Coaching gig!
October 14th, 2025 at 10:32 pm
The Coen hate here is unreal. Coen is a good coach. I think he’s stuck with an overrated QB. What I’m thankful for is that he brought some creativity that we were missing on this team along with giving Baker free reign at the line of scrimmage to decide what he wanted to do.
Canales was the overrated OC in my opinion.
October 14th, 2025 at 11:17 pm
Bingo. Canales was definitely overrated, he just looked the part with his good looks and the way he spoke. Coen and Grizzard are damn good coaches. I learn a lot from them.
October 14th, 2025 at 11:21 pm
Pretty sure coach of the year would go to the Indy coach. Remember, the Bucs were supposed to win the NFC South and be a playoff team, where as the Colts were supposed to be stuck with Daniel Jones or AR-15 at QB.
Again, good.
Why people care about winning week 6 titles is beyond me. This is the NFL, not college, there is literally no benefit to being paper champ after week 6.
October 14th, 2025 at 11:29 pm
@WillieG you can watch on YouTube never had any issues with sound.
They let all the curse words fly. Nothing to do with any politics- tv channels still have to censor certain things.

Coen has done a good job in Jacksonville but tyhere are signs that he may not handle adversity well. Once it looked like his QB blew him off during a game and I am sure that did not sit well with Liam. He also appears a bit thin skinned when he went off on Robert Saleh over Liam being able to steal signs or signals. Dude could be set up for a melt down if things do not go his way. I guess we will see how things go with him if the Jags lose to the Rams in London which is essentially a home game for the Jags as they play there once or twice every year. Personally I hope the Jags beat the rams to give the rams another loss but it will be interesting to see the chess match between Coen and McVay.
