Best Hands Since Randy Moss?
October 5th, 2025
Emeka Egbuka
Bucs rookie receiver Emeka Egbuka drew a stunning comparison last week.
Egbuka has played just four regular season games, so the NFL world only has gotten a small taste of him. But they’ve savored it. Egbuka has strong numbers (four touchdowns) and he won Offenive Rookie of the Month for September.
A guy who has watched Egbuka practice every day and saw plenty of receivers during his long career as a Pro Bowl cornerback is Kevin Ross, the Buccaneers’ cornerbacks coach.
Ross was on the Buccaneers Radio Network last week and put Egbuka in elite company.
“You got that No. 2, Egbuka, He can play. He can do it all,” Ross said. “He can do it all. He’s gonna have a great career. Now you got a guy that can run crazy routes. He’s got the best hands I’ve seen since I was in Minnesota with Randy Moss.”
Randy Moss?
Host Casey Phillips instantly reminded Ross of the eye-opening Moss-Egbuka comparison he just made.
“Wow. That’s quite a compliment,” she said. “You’re saying basically he’s got Randy Moss level hands.”
Ross didn’t back down. “Oh yes he does,” Ross replied.

Absolutely love ebuka and think he’s a stud but let’s please relax lol he had a few drops last game and had a drop against the Texans as well. Let’s calm down the kid has a bright future though.

If his hands are so great why does he repeatedly passes that he gets his hands on. I am not sure how random great catches erase dropped passes in people’s minds.
October 5th, 2025 at 1:08 pm
A bit early for that comparison. He’s had a couple good games.
And a lot of drops.
October 5th, 2025 at 1:20 pm
Let’s hold the horses a bit. He had multiple drops last week.
I think he’s gonna be a stud, but let’s slow our roll on the Moss comparisons

Best pick in a while. Hope Griz is more Coen than Canales.

Yes Egbuka does have a bright future, but he’s still a rookie. And regardless of how good he is, he’ll still make some rookie mistakes. Folks need to cut him some slack.
Through his first 4 games he’s been targeted 31 times (more than any other Buc) and caught 18 of those … for 58.1% catch percentage. Virtually all of our other WRs & TEs are down on catch percentage too, so there’s more to it than just ‘Oh well, he’s a rookie’.
Those 18 catches however have produced 282 receiving yds … for an astounding average of 15.7 yds/reception. And he’s doing a lot of that after the catch … Emeka’s got 167 yds before catch and another 115 yds after the catch.
Even more significantly, those 18 catches have produced 4 TDs and 11 first downs. That’s BIG TIME productivity.

Bonzai & Unbelievable … Pro-Football-Reference only shows Egbuka with 2 Drops (6.5%). Maybe some of those passes he didn’t bring in really weren’t catchable? Hard to tell from TV camera angles oftentimes.

“Virtually all of our other WRs & TEs are down on catch percentage too, so there’s more to it than just ‘Oh well, he’s a rookie’.“
We’re averaging 14 incompletions per game, which is likely partly on the QB, partly on route runners, and the rest on the opposing defense. It’s not all separation issues, I know that’s the goto for when a QB can’t connect with a WR, but some of it is bad passes or other connection errors.
That’s also means we’re getting nothing for 14 pass plays a game, which chews into efficiency and effectivity of the offense. That’s the fifth highest incompletion rate in the league and just a half completion more than Bryce Young as Panthers QB, for those that like to rag on Canales.

You don’t compare rookies 4 games into their career with the best WR of all time. What a stupid thing to say.

Egbuka reminds me most of Justin Jefferson. They have virtually identical stats too in every category from the combine. Shocked the Bucs even had him available picking 19th. In retrospect, it was genius and an absolute **NO BRAINER**.

And Munch that would be Jerry Rice. And Calvin Johnson was the most dominant.

No, Moss was better than either. He’s the only guy, ever, that gave those all-time great Bucs defenses a problem. The only guy. You could double, triple cover him, it didn’t matter, he’d just magically leap 10 feet into the air and catch the ball, then Lynch would crush him like no one else, and he’d be fine.
Meanwhile what did Rice do? Got taken out by Sapp one-on-one.
No, Rice is the #2 all-time, obviously a very different type of WR, and it’s not a knock to say #2. But having watched both, I know who I feared the most when the Bucs had to play them.
And give me a break with Megatron, great WR for his time, not in the same category as Rice and Moss.

Warren Brooks Lynch … ‘That’s the fifth highest incompletion rate in the league and just a half completion more than Bryce Young as Panthers QB’.
Thankfully it’s a TEAM game, and the Bucs are 3-1 as opposed to the Panthers being 0-4. We know that Baker can complete over 70% of his passes with our ‘normal’ OLine protecting him & our regular array of RBs, WRs & TEs … he accomplished that last year. But this season thus far has been a very different animal, and it’s affecting EVERYONE, not just Baker.
Our TEs for instance seem to have been doing a LOT more blocking in support of our OLine & catching a LOT fewer passes than they did last season. This season our TEs are 6-of-12 (50% catch percentage) receiving; last season they were 15-of-22 (68.2% catch percentage) receiving. So they were more involved in the passing game AND caught a significantly higher percentage of their targets.

When Randy Moss came into the league he immediately made whoever was playing QB on his team the easiest job in the NFL.
The play call in the huddle went something like ….Chris Cater go work your magic on the sideline, Jake Reed fake a slant then go flare out wide & Randy just go deep. Im going look at the short & intermediate reads but as long as the protection holds I will throw it long on 2 ready break

EE2 is way ahead of Moss in one area: he’s a better human being character wise. Moss might have been all world in the receiving department, but his character had a big cloud over it when he was drafted. I think the Vikings’ receivers helped straighten him out. DR is right: EE2 is a rookie and he’s going to make rookie mistakes. But man, he’s sure got a load of talent. Don’t forget: Chris Godwin will be starting with him, too. That’s a pretty decent 1-2 punch even with all the ####### injuries.

He is good but Randy was unguardable

Good ole Munch must not have had his meds today. Over the years we’ve been blessed to read a lot of Munchs comedic posts! You know the difference between God and Munch right??? God doesn’t think he’s Munch!

“Thankfully it’s a TEAM game, and the Bucs are 3-1 as opposed to the Panthers being 0-4.”
Wins ≠ the pass game being efficient Defense Rules. Yes it’s team ball, as I stated it’s not just 2 factor that leads to that it’s a lot of other, and our record means nothing when we’re talking about the efficiency of our pass game. As you said, it’s a TEAM game. I wasn’t comparing teams tho, I’m comparing performance and is being a 3-1 team and being grouped in with an 0-4 team says something about US, not them.

EE is good. If you think he is Randy Moss, you’re a moron.
October 5th, 2025 at 7:04 pm
Okay, after today’s game…I might be convinced…
October 5th, 2025 at 7:07 pm
Well….after the Hawks game, I’d say this comparison might be merited.
Egbuka: 7 targets, 7 receptions, 163 yards (!!! ???? !!!!) with 1 TD.
I’ve never been so excited about a rookie.
