Anthony Nelson, Chase McLaughlin Get NFC Honors

October 29th, 2025

Anthony Nelson holds the ball aloft after walking into the end zone with his first NFL pick-six Sunday.

This a franchise first for the Bucs.

Both Bucs outside linebacker Anthony Nelson and kicker Chase McLaughlin were named NFC Defensive and Special Teams Player of the Week,” respectively, for their efforts in a beat down of the slimy Saints Sunday.

Nelson had one of the best games imaginable for a defensive player, nearly beating the slimy Saints all by himself. He had two sacks and a pick-six of New Orleans quarterback Spencer Rattler in Nelson’s first start of the season. And he forced a fumble.

McLaughlin kicked three fields goals of 50-plus yards.

Never before have the Bucs had a set of players receive a weekly NFC awards.

Congrats to them for a great game

  2. RVATom Says:

    Awesome. Well deserved.

  3. Cometowin2 Says:

And the forced fumble. Let ‘s see what Nelly can do the rest of the year. He just steps up when he’s in there.

  4. ModHairKen Says:

Nelson should be the starter. Period.

  5. PSL Bob Says:

That’s special. That’s 3 Bucs players this year to get the weekly recognition.

  6. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Who’d a thunkit, A reserve OLB and a kicker some wanted to be challanged for his job after some bad misses earlier in the season winning weekly honors for their exceptional performances…IN THE SAME GAME.

Rest up, and come back hungry boys.

  7. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

    Well deserved for both.

  8. heyjude Says:

Awesome! Congrats to both. They deserve it.

  9. #99 the big fella Says:

  10. orlbucfan Says:

ABsolutely FABulous!!!! Both deserve it, and kudos to them!!!! I’m with WBL: “Rest up, and come back hungry, boys.” YEAH, BUCS!!! Spite the refs!!

  11. BakerFan Says:

That is really nice, for such an awful performance on offense. FIX THE OFFENSE GRIZZ OR STEP DOWN.

  12. Gipper Says:

    BakerFan,

Offense will be fixed when O line is put back together. Hope we see more of Elijah Klein at RG. RT is a problem but bound to get better until Goedeke can rejoin.

  13. jimmy Says:

congrats to cha$e, he has come far from the couple of bad kicks at the start of the year. hopefully todd doesnt start whining again if he happens to miss another kick or two.

    to be expected though.

  14. Kenton Smith Says:

Baker fan, we went into Detroit with receivers 5-8. No Bucky. Banged up QB. Inconsistent line play. I think the toughest away game of the year. That stadium is loud! Then the Saints the offense was vanilla because it had to be. Trying to get to the bye with a division win and we did it. The only story of the year is that our defense is turning into a FORCE. A blocked field goal and punt charging our defense 14 points against. Take those away and this defense is getting close to the promised land. Special teams learned some hard lessons early- good, it’s better than learning those lessons late. Grizzard, just like our defense and special teams, is still a work in progress. Despite the injuries he’s not even begun to show panic. Not even halfway through the season and we’re only scratching the surface. Patience, Grasshopper.

  16. ElioT Says:

    Nelson for president!

  17. ModHairKen Says:

    The idiots whining about Grizzard.

    Finding a lineup with:

    No Goedeke.
    No Mauch.
    No Wirfs.
    No Evans.
    No Godwin.
    No McMillan.
    No Irving.

Get a grip. 6-2 with all of that and you want to twist your panties complaining like you could do better.

  18. #99 the big fella Says:

    813bucboi lol that is true

  19. Billy Bucco Says:

Nelson should absolutely get more reps.
Why did we eat $15 Million when we already had Nelson?

In other news John Wolford signs with the Vikings.
Kyle Trask will never play in the NFL.

LadyBoi813 and #69_the_fatguy hold hands and giggle, never recognizing the difference between a mix of critical thinking, sarcasm and humor, and blind pom pom waving.

YAY!!!!!!! Have a juice box together.

  21. Kate Says:

Not the first time, but it’s been a long time!

1999, Week 11: CB Donnie Abraham & K Martin Gramatica
2001, Week 16: LB Derrick Brooks & TE Todd Yoder
2006, Week 7: CB Rondé Barber & K Matt Bryant
2008, Week 4: LB Derrick Brooks & K Matt Bryant
2025, Week 8: OLB Anthony Nelson & K Chase McLaughlin

  22. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    “The idiots whining about Grizzard.”

I’m an idiot that’s BEEN complaining about Grizzard, and even when we still had Evans, Goedeke, Mauch, & Irving available his calls were lacking rhythm and creativity just like they have been the last few weeks.

The talent has made him look better, than his scheme has.

We can look around to who we have and why they haven’t at the very least had the opportunities to make a difference and put that on him in-spite of the attrition on that side of the ball.

We’ve had injuries on defense as well, luckily for us our HC and his Co-DCs aren’t nearly as green to the NFL game as Joshua is, so there’s at least that to consider even if you disagree.

  23. GoneGator Says:

Chase (Money) McLaughlin deserves consideration for our offensive MVP.

  24. KABucs Says:

Going to go out on a limb and say that Matt Bryant never kicked three 50+ plus yarders in the same game. Bryant only kicked three field goals of over 50 yds all of 2008. LOL

The bar has been raised on what it takes for a kicker to get special teams player of the week these days.

  25. Babygrace Says:

“I’m an idiot that’s BEEN complaining about Grizzard”

    Correct!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  26. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

    Lol Babygrace

you can keep pardoning mediocrity all you want, with this fisher price offense lol

  27. adam from ny Says:

and to grab these honors vs the saints makes it even better

  28. infomeplease Says:

Throw AW31 in with those two men and you have a trio of dominating players from the Bucs’ last game!! Who will step up and make game altering plays against the Pats???? Get it done men!! This is the start of the BIG FINISH!!!

  29. #99 the big fella Says:

Thanks for the input, Aqualung. When you’re ready to trade sarcasm for substance, the adults will still be here having a real discussion.

  30. ‘74 Bucs Fan Says:

So… how did Chase not win the award a few weeks ago after kicking the longest outdoor FG in NFL history? Or did he and I missed it?

Absolutely awesome that we beat the Saints, ATL lost, and Carolina lost. This weekend, ATL plays at Patriots, and Carolina at Green Bay, and Saints at Rams. That could/should be a pile of Ls for our division foes.

Go Bucs! Let’s stretch our lead from the couch!

  32. Aqualung Says:

Right on ‘74! It would be too good for them all to lose but they should all lose. Watch the zebras.

  33. bucs63 Says:

    Could’ve had three if Winfield hadn’t been “ref’d”out of 2 TD’s

  34. Vanessa Anne Says:

    Wonderful news!

    Congratulations Chase!! Congratulations Anthony!!

  35. Aqualung Says:

    Water is wet.

  36. BigMacAttack Says:

Nelson has come up big before, made key plays and sacks. Pay the man.

  37. Mafia Munch Says:

Heh, you didn’t hear it from me, but our friends in New York had a real healthy line on Nelson for Player of the Week. Winfield comes struttin’ in, makin’ too many big plays, startin’ to screw with the numbers — and, well, let’s just say that didn’t sit right with certain people. Next thing you know, there’s a whistle nobody heard, a touchdown that don’t count, and Nelson’s name sittin’ pretty in the headlines. Now our friends in the glass buildings let’s just say their interest in the game was rewarded.

  40. FortMyersDave Says:

Kate, I think the 2006 game you referenced was a game where ronde Barber picked off Donovan McNabb 3 times with a couple of pick 6’s and Matt Bryant nailed the game winning 62 yard field goal as time ran out. Thanks for posting the list!

  41. Aqualung Says:

Ooh there are adults to consider, eh, fat boy? Humorless, arrogant but at least ignorant adults are the segment you represent.

  42. Explosivo Says:

Anthony Nelson is a beast and criminally under-rated! Start him!
