Will Falcons, Panthers And Saints All Lose Again?

September 14th, 2025

Horrid opener.

Joe watched all the NFC South teams play last Sunday and walked away somewhat stunned by how bad the Panthers were.

Ugly stuff.

It was a straight up clunker — in Year 2 of a rah-rah Dave Canales regime. Bryce Young looked like a rookie, and a handful of bad snaps to him didn’t help. The defense looked slow and as bad as it was last season, when it ranked last in the league.

Rookie receiver Tetairoa McMillan, their first-round pick, reminded Joe of Mike Evans on the 2014 Buccaneers. A bright light in a very dark place.

Joe also saw the slimy Saints struggle but stay scrappy in a loss to Arizona, where the Panthers head this afternoon for a likely slaughter. Hated Saints edge rusher Cameron Jordan found 1 1/2 sacks while Alvin Kamara looked just ok and quarterback Spencer Rattler battled with everything he had. Joe appreciates Rattler. He’s kind of like Baker Mayfield without the arm strength.

After Arizona QB Kyler Murray moronically at a 15-yard sack when he was trying to ice the game, the Saints got the ball back with a chance to tie (or win) with just under two minutes remaining. Their 13-play drive came up short and the Cardinals escaped with a 20-13 win.

San Francisco comes to New Orleans today and the Falcons play tonight at revived Minnesota.

Joe would be happy to wager on the Falcons, Saints and Panthers all dropping to 0-2 today. If that happens, will the Bucs find some extra motivation for their Monday night game in Houston?

It would be so damn sweet for the Bucs to run away with the division and rest veteran players for a game later this season.

Joe’s already resting players, that’s funny.

    Yes, Yes, and Yes.

  4. First Last Says:

Imagine we get a 3-4 game lead lol. That will change how we return Wirfs and Godwin

    bucs are beating texans 27-17

  6. YT Power Says:

Yes, so Bowles can go One and down in the playoffs.

The Buc’s won’t rest any veterans until they are injured or it’s weak 18!

  8. Boomer Says:

What a wonderful world it would be if that happened Joe…..

One thing we all should see is that the Falcons are a very good team. They have quarterback, they have running backs, they have defense. The Bucs are better IMO and should show their superiority throughout the season. Still we as fans need to put the brakes on negativity. And just because there’s another very good team in the division doesn’t mean the Bucs aren’t the excellent one.

Another thing is how playing in a weak division will help the Bucs. At least two NFC South teams are objectively bad. Lots of talking heads say this works against Tampa Bay. But remember New England’s run: their division was weak for years, and the Patriots had to beat back a different up-and-comer for years. It practically gave them a high seed for years and helped pave a path to conference championships year after year. Meantime the AFC and NFC West teams were beating the snot out of one another for years. Hope the Bucs can collar the same niche.

In favor of them all losing, and Baker having his best Monday night ever. Want ME13 to catch 2TD’s; 1 TD Otton, and 1 TD EE.
Bucs score 35 and Bucs defense barely hangs on to 30 versus Houston points. Sorry, but Bucs defense isn’t much improved as we will regrettably find out as the season moves along.

    F cam jordan.

  12. Irishmist Says:

I’d take the under on the Saints/49rs. With Purdy out and Rattler facing the SF defense, I doubt they get to 44 pts.

  13. Bejeezusbelt Says:

Joe, where is Ira and JBF podcast for this weekend? You are killing me. And yes the rest of the division will be 0-2.
    It’s there. –Joe

  14. firethecannons Says:

agreed Joe, the Panthers were dramatically bad, the Falcons will likely get better. I will not mention saints as they are an afterthought at this point

  15. Bill in Seminole Says:

All four of the NFC South teams are listed, based on Vegas odds, as underdogs for this weekend. The Bucs are 2.5 point underdogs against the Texans which is no more than a home field advantage.

One of the frequently proffered comments on this board which is also a backhanded slam on bakes is that Bakes was revived by the brilliant Canales. I maintained all along it was the opposite. Baker makes his OCs look good because he had a Trillion different one’s and learned from them all. Mayfield is teaching them including Grizzly. Canales is being proven an Alert coat tail rider.

Dave is a life coach for old fat miserable Karen’s in their menopausal no husband, no kids, regret stage. He’s not football coach. He’s a positive energy guru. He will always close his eyes and ears and go nah nah nah nah nah I dont hear it nah nah nah I dont see it. He would say 0-17 was a blessing because of all the great moments that Almost happened that may happen next time. He chooses to smile 😃 and good for him

  18. Vanessa Anne Says:

I’d love to see it Joe, but think it’s unlikely simply because of the old maxim Any Given Sunday…

But, I still think we win!

  19. Saskbucs Says:

Looking like 2 will be down, 1 to go. No Van Ginkel for Minny tonight hurts.

  20. richbucsfan Says:

Well, if they all lose again the Bucs will still have them by a game by Tuesday.

  21. HC Grover Says:

Canales is up the gut again for the loss.

  22. Lightningvinny Says:

Jags would have won today if they had the Bake Show

  23. Marky mark Says:

Coen made a stupid decision going on fourth and passing up a fg. Coaches hide behind analytics these days. Common sense says pick.

  24. Gipper Says:

Chiefs were beaten today and Patrick Mahomes looks pretty ordinary after 2 games. This just proves the obvious that QB’s don’t win Super Bowls, elite teams win Super Bowls. Watch how all the fake football analysts will say Mahomes doesn’t have it anymore. His game hasn’t changed but the team around him sure has.

  25. Oxycondomns Says:

raheem the dream bungled up the first drive . atlanta didnt seem ready for crowd noise

  26. Esteban85 Says:

Atlanta has a better defense this year from what I can see.

  27. ATLBuc Says:

Skule is doing his matador routine again!

  28. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Falcons defense looking pretty good. Morris has those young guys fired up, lots of energy and micro-bursts all over the field for them. They’re looking good, but we can sweep them.

  29. ReeeBarrr Says:

I’d guess minn will out tough Atl tonight for the W.

    Falcons defense looking pretty good.

    ——–

It’s easy to look good when the opponent is forced to start Sucke – you saw what that piece of garbage did last year to tank the Bucs offense, and the Vikings offense is a lot, lot worse.

  31. Aqualung Says:

The Raheehee knows how to lose that’s for sure. Not a genius like our double the coach half the results guy.

  32. BPBucsfan Says:

Not watching the game, but following it. With the crap QB that Minnesota has, they will lose. Plus Atlanta brought in another kicker from practice squad, so they’re making their FG. Minnesota won’t even find the end zone tonight. They’re now down 2 scores, so they’ll be 1 and 1 after tonight.

  33. Danfan Says:

Looks like Falcons will win, barring a miracle 4th quarter from McCarthy like last week. Making our OL play and win last week look a lot better!

  34. BPBucsfan Says:

All over now. Falcons win easily.

  35. Aqualung Says:

Vikings are gonna be one of those high variable teams. McCarthy is the primary factor in that and now they have OL injuries too. Without an OL it gets late early.

Watch how 52 pickup let’s select our players randomly works out.

You should watch the game instead of commenting on it so you don’t sound like a dipstick.

McCarthy had almost no chance to do anything since he was under constant heavy pressure. He did miss a big deep throw, but also made a couple of nice throws and was able to pick-up yards on the ground when the line broke down. He’s a guy making his second start and while he didn’t look good, he didn’t look bad as pretty much no QBs would look good with that awful blocking.
