Whether Benjamin Morrison Plays Is Up To Benjamin Morrison
September 12th, 2025
Cornerback Ben Morrison.
The Bucs’ heralded rookie cornerback from Notre Dame may just see his first NFL snaps on Monday night. That’s the word from Bucs coach Todd Bowles.
But to get on the field, Bowles said, there is a simple goal that Morrison has to reach this week.
“He’s trending towards being up this week if he can have a couple of days of good practice,” Bowles said. “He’ll be [on] special teams, but we’ll try to get him some defensive snaps as well to get his feet wet.”
A big reason Morrison did not play in Atlanta is he missed weeks of training camp with what was beleived to be a hamstring issue. He’s currently on the injury report with a quad problem.
Last week Bowles hinted Morriosn probably wouldn’t play against the Dixie Chicks because he had a lot of catching up to do.
How much Morrison plays defense is unknown but Bowles pretty much said where he would play.
“Well, depending on how the series go … I mean, we played a bunch of plays the last game,” Bowles said. “If it turns into one of those, he’ll end up getting some reps, but it won’t be inside.”
So there you have it: No slot corner snaps for Morrison if he takes the field Monday night in Houston. Joe guesses Bowles believes Jacob Parrish is holding the fort down at slot corner very well.

Should your projected Round 2 starter, a highly regarded prospect, come back from injury by being submitted to the highly violent aspect of special teams?
Here again, I differ with Todd Bowles.
The counter to this difference of opinion would place me as a scribe who knows nothing about coaching a football team. And who is this low-level writer who would dare to contest a decision from a “winning” coach such as Mr. Bowles?
Does not his record speak for itself?
So, shut up … me!

Keep hyping this guy but haven’t seen him in pads. Yet he’s supposed to be our starting CB.

Are we replacing Dean with a Dean clone?

Front four- Youre telling me you haven’t seen an all American corner lock up Marvin Harrison jr in pads? Ohhhh kayyyy guy. Much less heralded rookies have gotten playing time in the nfl over the weekend and they’ve been fine. As an aside, I’ve seen comments from others being concerned over the idea that it’s a night game. That is frankly so dumb and overstated – Notre Dame plays on national tv every week. And are we really supposed to be deathly afraid of the most mediocre quarterback ever in CJ stroud with a terrible offensive line and zero receivers except for Nico Collins? Oh no, Justin Watson! Look out for THAT guy! Lmao *eyeroll* This is the perfect time for Morrison to get some looks on the outside who frankly has much higher pedigree than Dean

There is a completely plausible scenario that these issues aren’t lingering from his surgery but just being due to the fact it has been a long time since he actually played any football, and his body just did a “Woah, reset” kind of thing. And now that he’s back he will be completely fine.

I don’t disagree with your pov, but football players are payed to play football. He’s NOT an NFL all pro, he’s a rookie who has yet to prove anything

Yall are trippin. He’s not a starter. He’s a backup. He’s not taking Dean or McCollums job.

Also, let’s remember another 2nd round heir apparent who never played….no show, you gotta go

Ronde Barber didn’t play much to start his career. Barber was 66th pick compared to what the 51st pick.
So — if he gets in mostly on special teams — that’s fine with me.

I remember the great Mrs Gump said to me, “Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get”.
Such is the life of a Buccaneers fan, especially in regard to defensive backs and hammies…😳🤔

If you think being a Bucs fan is hard, you should talk to Cleveland Browns fans. Which, I’m a reformed fan. I now root for whatever team Baker Mayfield plays for.
I want him to lead the Bucs to a super-bowl victory and flip the bird to Haslam et. al.
Baker, please know that there are plenty of Crapland Brownstains fans, and reformed fans, who sincerely appologise for the way you were treated.

he needs to be protected from himself and should sit one more week

Bucs gave up the 4th most yards against the pass in Week 1, they need all the help they can get.
If their Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator cannot scheme up a competent pass defense he needs to be replaced. THIS PASS DEFENSE HAS LOOKED THE SAME FOR SIX SEASONS!!!!!!

Man, from some of these comments you would think this was 1983-95, not 2025. The Bucs have been winning. They’ve won their Division in consecutive years. They won a second SB in their home crib. They finished with winning records even with being the walking wounded. Mebbe some of you need to go back and study that 12 year period. I feel for Cleveland fans. Not just cos of the history of the Bucs, I cut my pro football fan teeth as a DC native on the then-Redskins. Man, did they stink up the universe! You could only get home games on radio. That’s why I like it.

Welcome, Bicep! The more Baker fans hear the merrier.

Aqualung cringes every time the overdeployed, two half time jobs guy says anything.
The two Atlanta TD drives happened when Todd’s patented cover zero receivers zone pass defense was being deployed. On the bright side, in between those atrocities (the second aided by the refs and some terrible calls) the D looked to have tightened up and the pass rushers were putting heat on Atlanta’s Penix. So that could be promising if we would just start and end games that way. Especially at the end.
Now we head to Houston. Last seen there, it was rookie CJ Stroud torching Todd for 500 yards and 39 poimts, only needing 45 seconds for the final game winning touchdown.
Aqualung cringes at the thought of Todd doing the same things but expecting different results.
Good grief.

I wouldn’t take Parrish off the field for Morrison. I wouldn’t take Zyon off the field for Morrison, and after rewatching the game I wouldn’t take Dean off the field until I felt a need to for Morrison.
Pro: Our guys in place already are doing a decent job
Con: we don’t get to see what the rookie has.
Texans are walking wounded. No Tank Dell, and Nico Collins was limited to 3 receptions and 25 yards last game. I like our defenses shot at being able to keep a lid on that offense.

So, in other words, he’s only playing DB if we’re getting COOKED.
