“We Practice Two-Minute Religiously”

September 16th, 2025

Certain things are a must in the church of Todd Bowles.

No, Joe is not talking about a midseason nosedive. It’s working on late-game, situational football.

The Bucs mowed down the Texans last night with a diverse and methodical two-minute-drill drive, a touchdown drive, to beat a damn good defense in its home crib with a few ticks of the clock remaining.

Mike Evans talked about the Bucs’ proficiency in that realm.

“Everybody was calm. Obviously, we did it last week [in Atlanta]. Little bit different scenario, but we practice two-minute [situations] religiously,” Evans said. “And it was great for our preparation to come full circle tonight against Houston.”

Baker Mayfield’s first-down scramble on fourth down was huge on the final drive, and Evans said Mayfield had been sniffing that opportunity for a while because the Texans were giving him room.

“Elite playmaker” is how Evans described Mayfield.

He sure is.

Crazy talk…..but maybe play that two minute offense occasionally, say, in the 3rd
Q to extend a lead and pull the team out of the mud.

  2. Hammerhead Says:

Or how about our offensive line is decimated right now.

    Facts are facts.

    TAKE NOTICE
TWO AREAS OF GROWTH ON OFFENSE

    1. Grizz switched to hurry up when the offense was sputtering. Bowles used to be very anti-hurry up. That was solid coaching. Good sign.

    2. They nailed the End of Game clock management and timeouts. Perfection. The Bucs lost to the Texans with bad clock mgmt the last time they played.

    Kudos to Bowles.

  4. Aqualung Says:

We need to get the OL pass blocking fixed so Baker can hit Mikey with some deeper balls .

And it’s fairly clear, the next time Emeka gets a pass like that from Bake he’s gonna catch it.

that stingley was doing a great job on mike all night…dude can play

  6. MadMax Says:

It was a blessing Chubb scored at just the right time for us to put that two minute beast to work….i was even saying that to some guys in the break room while watching at work

I am currently in Kenya on safari, so I was unable to watch the game. Glad for the win but I’m not sure I could have survived another dose of agita like I had during the Atlanta game.

Bake slipping by that defender on that 4th and 10 was squirrel magic.

  9. Bee Says:

That final drive was a thing of beauty. Great clock management and they got the TD. They left HOU with 6 seconds. 🤌🏾

  10. Obvious Says:

Copy that on Todd learning from his mistakes.

Chiefs MNF ‘24 – calls the timeout after a first down inside the 5 yard line allowing Mahomes plenty of time.

Last night – after Evans gets the first down inside the 10 he lets the clock tick down, Mayfield finds Otton for a few yards out of bounds and the clock ticks down to 9 seconds left effectively making it a Bucs win via TD or Texans win if they stop us.

    Just perfect!

Love Evans saying “Everyone was calm.” So glad to hear that, but it wasn’t that way at my house. Far from being calm and couldn’t go to sleep until midnight lol.

I watched the extra show afterwards and have to tell you Rock Riley is calming after all that emotion.

This is what I’ve been saying! Bowles has improved every year! With all the good things other coaches say about him, had to know he’d start figuring it out.

I say THREE areas. Right after Luke went down, I saw we went to our run game more and short quick passes, thus negating a strong Houston rush from their excellent DEs. Grizz has been doing a good job. Last night he was exceptional.

And WOW, poor Heck. He was incredibly overmatched. If he wasn’t a buc, it would almost be comical.

ME13 was both po’ed and frustrated sitting on the sideline in the first half. Wonder if the Texan DB was holding him (as in illegally)?

  15. BigBucsFan Says:

Charlie heck was a bit over matched but he played like heck did decent one would say one heck of a job for the short time. Great play calling by both offensive coordination and defense as this team gets everybody back and start priming in to great shape all gears oiled all cylinders firing at the same time I see high potential fans definitely see high potential

After hearing a lot of negatives about Bowles it’s nice for fans to see the positives that are taking place. That calmness in the face of turmoil starts at the top and the team goes about it’s business when it has to to get the job done. They have belief in themselves and Bowles instills that in them, that quiet confidence. As White and Mayfield were saying before he scored, let’s do this and go home. The shot of Bowles steely look as the game unfolded was great, like he knew the team would get it done.

I’ve been impressed with Bowles so far this year. Keep it up, Coach, and let’s see how far we can go!! Good job, Coach, and I rarely say that.
