Todd Bowles Updates Vita Vea Foot Injury

September 5th, 2025

Encouraging news at One Buc Palace — to a degree.

So Vita Vea practiced today after sitting out the past two days with a mysterious foot injury.

Asked about Vea after practice, head coach Todd Bowles fueled the foot mystery. Bowles described Vea’s situation as “something he woke up with.”

Damn, doesn’t that kind of thing happen after one turns 55?

Bowles said Vea “had a good practice” and his arrow is pointing up for Sunday. “He’s looking promising. He’s trending the right way,” Bowles said.

The Bucs will face a Falcons team Sunday that is a run-first unit with a strong offensive line and a top-5 running back, Bijan Robinson. Vea on the field certainly would be a huge bonus. Joe expects Vea to play. What his total snap count will be — and how a foot issue might affect him long term — is another story.

Joe would have slept easier tonight of Bowles said Vea was in great shape and his rest was just precautionary.

Checked the Depth Chart … Bucs are Super Thin (no pun intended) at NT. VV needs to stay healthy. I’m missing Nacho big time.

    2026 Draft Needs (updated):
    1. MLB
    2. NT
    3. Swing Tackle
    4. WR

  2. Jeff Says:

Should have traded his fat azz to Dallas.

  3. TrevC Says:

Can it, Jeff. It’s football, guys get banged up or did you forget that?

  4. Pewter Pirate Says:

Great news. If sore and he is able, let him play against Atlanta and sit out the Texans and Jets. Division wins much more important. Be back for NFC game against the Eagles that could have seeding implications.

  5. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

    Sounds like gout.

That’s one of the only for injuries one can ‘wake up with’.

And gout is quite debilitating if you’re not aware, so there’s no way he could play on it if it was/is gout.

    Hopefully it’s passed.

Prob too much protein/meat and fat in Vita’s diet and it caught up with him.

  6. Erik with Pilot and Driver™ Says:

    *foot injuries

  7. Jack Meoff Says:

Bucs need to trade Vita along with Chris Godwin and next years 1st round pick for Jalen Carter

  8. miken Says:

    @slypirate #1 is olb/ de

  9. Stpetematt Says:

Jack, Aqualung, and Jeff are all the same person/AI.

  10. unbelievable Says:

AKA he’ll be dealing with this all season long…

    Not good.

  11. KABucs Says:

That can start happening way before 55.
With what Vea puts his body through each season since before high school and the shear size of said body, this happening to him before 35 is not shocking. 😆

  12. KABucs Says:

As long as he can play!

  13. Pmike Says:

Was thinking it’s gout as well…. No bueno if it keeps flaring up. He’ll be compensating to not put weight on those toes if he plays..

  14. Smarter than Joe Says:

    No Wirfs

    No Godwin

    No McMilan

Hoping & Praying Reddick is like 2023 version and not 2024 version

Banking on Dennis, Winfield, Dean to be healthy and hoping Todd Blows changes his soft pass defense… SMH

Bucs are banking on a LOT OF HOPE

7-10 or worse is the feeling I am getting

  15. AK Says:

Everybody ultimately has to learn how to play hurt to survive in the NFL- Vita is a 6’4 350 pound man- he probably has been proverbially sore for years now, especially in his foot- it’s just a matter of managing it as best as possible.

  16. Defense Rules Says:

Joe … ‘Vea on the field certainly would be a huge bonus.’

Respectfully Joe, Vea is not a bonus … he’s THE key cog. Without him, our DLine & pass rush is toast. Take away Vea, and Bucs must have one of the lightest DLines in the NFL.

  17. Aqualung Says:

Friends of Aqualung feel that Vita is an underachiever, lacking the drive and self motivation to be one of the greatest, and missing the kind of coaching he needs to trigger a self vision for the HoF. Lavonte calling him out in the preseason is a prime example. Dude is very good, but could be HoF with his talent.

  18. gbobucsfan Says:

Vita been eating too much shellfish and not staying hydrated !! Has Gout written all over it. The weight of a bedsheet can feel like a razor blade. Get some prednisone and let’s roll big fella !!

  19. Hodad Says:

Does he have kids? Maybe he stepped on a Lego when he woke up?

  20. Bucman Says:

very impressed with the Buc’s training & conditioning staff!

  21. Steven007 Says:

St. Pete Matt, not sure about aqua, but Jeff and Jack are obviously the same trolls. Some form of negativity every post, rinse and repeat. Unoriginal and stupid.

  22. Sinc Says:

I came on here to say Gout but I see it mentioned a few times.

  23. Call JL Says:

VV will be going overboard soon. Part time player this misses games and a large salary. Time to get young at NT, Edge and ILB.

  24. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Smokescreen

  25. purplebeard Says:

I don’t understand some of the comments posted here. A person would think that there are bucs fans that want to be prophets of doom and gloom. I consider myself a realist, but even that attitude doesn’t warrant the naysayers here.

  26. Smarter than Joe Says:

    @Purplebeard,

I would LOVE to be wrong about Todd Blows, the pass defense, the health/injuries on the team and the bad roster composition. I am not being a ‘Hater” or Negative, I am just being realistic

Too much working against the Bucs to win in 2025.

  27. firethecannons Says:

I mean it could be any number of minor painful ailments, Plantar fascitis, ingrown toe nail, turf toe, blister, bruised bone. Time for a toradol shot and rock and roll.

  28. gp Says:

Not positive, but I’m pretty sure that Prednisone is a banned substance in NFL circles.

  29. Stpetematt Says:

Bucs will land somewhere between 11-6 and 13-4, depending on some luck in games where they are fairly equally matched.

How’s that for the opposite of negativity? 🙂

  30. BucsFanSince1996 Says:

    @SlyPirate,

I don’t know what the plans are for Chukwuma are, but he seems to be developing fast and can be a candidate for swing tackle.

  31. Jim in AR Says:

There are many reasons why Vita has a sore foot. The most interesting one is from stepping on a Lego piece. I did just that and it hurt for two weeks! Maybe dooming Vea to the scrap heap could wait until after Sunday’s game.

  32. mj Says:

he’s playing… especially on first down

  33. Jeff Walker Says:

Somebody check him for gout. Easy to misdiagnose as a foot or toe injury.

  34. Crickett Baker Says:

If it is gout, eating cherries and asparagus can be beneficial.

  35. Mikadeemas Says:

Have you had gout Cricket? Because that’s nonsense.

  36. Irishmist Says:

Most likely plantar fasciitis. When you sleep with your toes pointed downwards all night, then get up and put all that weight on your foot the tissues on the bottom of your foot get suddenly overstretched leading to micro tears and inflammation. The trick is to stretch your calf and the bottom of the foot before getting out of bed. Also, someone his size should never go barefoot, he should be wearing shoes with good arch support the minute he gets out of bed.

  37. mj Says:

bunch of doctors on this site Vita pay attention

  38. garro Says:

Got to the point I no longer want to hear Todd talk about injuries. It seems that there is never any real info from him. Waste of time even reading it.

    Go Bucs!

  39. Michael Says:

I’ll give you the Falcons RB, but their line is a little beat up too.
