Todd Bowles: Doesn’t Matter Who Jets Quarterback Is

September 20th, 2025

Fun times.

Last week Jets quarterback Justin Fields suffered a concussion. He won’t play tomorrow againt the Bucs and in his place steps three plays, 75 yards Tyrod Taylor.

Uh, oh.

Speaking after yesterday’s practice, Bucs coach Todd Bowles seemed unmoved by Taylor playing in place of Fields.

“I don’t think it changes for us,” Bowles said. “The scheme is the same. Tyrod is just as athletic as Justin is.

“Obviously, he’s played more years and he’s seen a lot more ball, but it doesn’t change our preparation.”

Joe wonders if Taylor may help the Bucs defense, aside from the obvious. Sure, Taylor is a backup but Joe doubts Taylor is as mobile, or as willing to run as Fields. That, Joe thinks, should help the Bucs.

Still, Joe cannot purge the memory of that three-play, 75-yard drive that Taylor put together against the Bucs in Buffalo eight years ago.

seems like it could be a tight game but counting in the jets to find a way to lose

  2. Stpetematt Says:

Buffalo is a lot better team than the Jets- even back then.

  3. HC Grover Says:

Bowles strikes again. What a coach.

  4. Larrd Says:

Coach likes to take it easy on the backups!

Bucs favored by 7, last I saw. Even with all the injuries. 3-0 hopefully, lose to Eagles, probably, then start slowly getting some guys back. Just Wirfs would be huge.

Back up, but still a veteran QB with plenty of starting experience and playing time under his belt, so he can operate within an offense and figure out how best to apply himself.

Jets will probably make Allen & Hall the focal point of their game plan early. I think we can discourage it defensively, but our offense stacking some positive reps and giving us enough of a lead to protect would ease my mind.

Also a good way to set up more pass rushing opportunities defensively, as every rep isn’t a rep to rush the passer in order to declare our pass rush non-existent like some have. Especially considering we’re 2nd in non-blitz pressure win rate (48% of the time) and we’re 8th best applying overall pressure through 2 games in the NFL. Sacks + Hurries = pressure, not just sacks

Hc Grover ,You have something wrong with you! The elevator does not go to the top floor

  7. HC Grover Says:

Agent 99….get your shoe phone and call for mental help.

  8. Drdneast Says:

Taylor is actually more experience and better than Fields. Why the Jets are even bothering with Fields is beyond any rational mind.

  9. HC Grover Says:

Dear 99 I do not care a whit what you do. I never call u up. You are just a triggered fool. Keep it up and I will obliterate your triggered imbecile chasing my posts. Just go away.

  10. #99 the big fella Says:

Hc Grover anytime you want. Just let me know..
It would be nice to try to read a post without all your gibberish. It’s ok to not like the coach , or even a player, but it’s like you can’t help yourself. Every once in awhile you actually form a sentence and it’s not so bad.

  11. HC Grover Says:

99 you are no longer relevant.

  12. Stanglassman Says:

Fields would have made it a much easier win. His floor is so much lower. I feel like Bowles could have really taken advantage of his inexperience. Taylor is really good Qb. This is going to be a tough out for the Bucs in their current state of (lack thereof) health.

Bucs are winning the Super Bowl! Todd gets Coach of the Year! Mike gets 1k! Baker gets MVP! EE gets Rookie of the Year! LVD gets Pro Bowl! Get some wings from Hooters and Fire the Cannons!…LFG!

So, it’s going to be another dawgfight. What else is new? Go Bucs, 3-0!!

  15. Sapp 2 Fundamentally Sound Says:

Agree it would have been easier defensive game planning for Feilds.
Especially for SirVocea Dennis. Spying the QB would have played to his strengths.
    Still think the Bucs win.
Just feel like the way Todd Bowels has been making such great adjustments this year that by the 2nd half Justin Feilds limited overall game would have been minimized to just a few predictable plays. Feel like the Defense will come up big again this week. Turnovers are coming. Just think there would have been more turnovers with Fields.

    GO BUCS!

  16. DBS Says:

This guy is a backup for a reason. This is 8 years ago. He is not Tom Brady. Nobody wanted him as a starter anymore.

  17. Aqualung Says:

    Todd is great.

  18. Marky mark Says:

The irony is it was Tyrod Taylor who got injured which allowed Baker to come in and play for the Brown’s. That game broke a long maybe 30 or so losing streak and the whole stadium got free beers. Tere is a famous photo showing Baker handing out free beers to fans.
