Over 80% of the poll respondents have rated their confidence in TB as ‘Confident’ to ‘Totally Confident’. A big part of that (my assumption) is because we won last week. Nothing improves ratings like winning.
I was impressed when the Bucs had a 4th-and-1 at their own 36-yard line in the 1st qtr of Sunday’s game and TB went for it. We made it & went on to score a FG at the end of that long drive. Those 3 points ended up being the difference in the ballgame.
That was the only 4th down that we went for it on, so we were 1-for-1 (100%). Raheem & the Falcons went for it FOUR times, and made 3 of those (75%). About halfway through the 2nd qtr, the Falcons had a 4th-and-1 at the Tampa 47 yd line and Raheem went for it. They didn’t make it, we took over, and scored a TD 5 plays later.
Later in the game the Falcons went for on on 3 more 4th down situations … and made it on all 3 of them. Kept 2 drives alive by doing that, and ultimately scored a FG then a TD (10 pts) that they wouldn’t have gotten if they’d punted on the 1st attempt or kicked a FG on the last 2 attempts that resulted in the Falcons’ last TD.
Going for the conversion on 4th downs is a very iffy situation. IF you make it, you’re a hero. IF you don’t, you’re a goat. In Sunday’s case, Todd was a hero … we made it (in our territory) & ultimately got a FG. Had we not made it, we would’ve been missing 3 pts AND the Falcons would’ve gotten the ball at our 36-yard line, easily adding either 3 or 7 pts and maybe changing the outcome of the game.
BTW, the Bucs’ defense stopping the Falcons on their first 4th-and-1 attempt in the 2nd qtr was HUGE. We ended up scoring 3 pts and denied the Falcons any opportunity to convert that drive into pts.
Todd just coached a helluva game. He gave the critics what they asked for…. He was aggressive (4th down in our own territory 😳), our D held them on 4th down. We were 2 inches away from an unreal goal line stand. We stuffed their run game. We played more man to man and we limited their biggest weapons (Robinson and London) and their explosive plays.
We beffudled a good team and a very talented QB.
Defense (and Todd) gets a B- grade against Atlanta
.
That’s exactly how it went down DR. Huge play by the defense on a 4th down and huge play by the offense on a 4th down. Our punter had a great game so I was a little surprised when we went for it on our own 36. And I think it was like 4th and 4. At that point in the game we needed something to shake us up and Bowles surprised me and probably the Falcons too. We’ll need that same aggressive decision making to beat the Texans Monday night.

When the game is on the line Bowles folds

He was all in to go for the win last week. You know it was just a week ago.
They hire a game manager advisor. Todd seems to be listening.
