Monday Role Outlined For Benjamin Morrison

September 11th, 2025

It sounds like Buccaneers rookie second-round pick Benjamin Morrison will play on Monday night for the first time this season.

Morrison missed the entire preseason with a bad hamstring or quad (Joe can’t be sure based on a couple of factors).

He practiced last week on a “limited” basis and did not dress for the season-opener at Atlanta. Head coach Todd Bowles said today that Morrison is “trending” toward playing Monday.

Bowles said Morrison would play special teams and the team would try to get his “feet wet” as an outside cornerback. The head coached noted the Bucs defense played a ton of snaps in Atlanta and if the game is like that again, Morrison certainly will be seen on defense.

They are chomping at your heels dean.

  2. Whatevs Says:

Can’t wait to see how our 2nd rd pick and Todd 500 Bowles’ former teammate’s son does next week. Hopefully he can make it through the game uninjured with some solid play and maybe an INT.

  3. KABucs Says:

Wonder if he can pull an Emeka and get an int in his first game?

  4. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Morrison gets in at CB and we’re likely going to be playing man because he thrives 1 on 1 with or without help.

Can’t wait to see Izien back either, if he were in the game Sunday on that Robison TD he’d hunt Bijan down before he broke containment.

  5. First Last Says:

They are banking so much on this guy that they think he will be in for Dean soon it seems

  6. Whatevs Says:

I really hope he is sturdy enough and good enough to replace Dean. Those 2nd rounders have to pay off and be long term productive players if we are going to continue to not be aggressive in free agency and the trade market.

I wish the kid the best.

  7. JA Says:

The Morrison/Dean thing is hard to imagine.
Dean agreed to play this year for 4.25 million, down from nearly 13 million for this year and next, unless he was cut.
    Why?
So he could become a FA after this year? That’s it? Makes no sense.
He didn’t have to sign that deal as he was guaranteed another 12 million this year by playing in his first game. And let’s remember,Morrison has yet to play a snap for the Bucs.
Again, why not stick it out and at least get this year’s 12 million? Or get cut and test the waters?
Melodramatic Conspiracy Theories: Either Dean loathes the Bucs defense to want out that bad, or Bowles, or the Bucs loathe him.
If it’s the latter, however, why not stick around for the 12 mil and force the Bucs’ hand?
Not much of this makes sense. Who would just agree to an 8 million pay cut without an ulterior motive?
Facts only: anybody KNOW what’s going on?

  8. Jmarkbuc Says:

If we could get off the field there wouldn’t be so many snaps. Just sayin

  9. BucU Says:

I hope Morrison is as good as Jacob Parrish because that dude is a dawg!

  10. Defense Rules Says:

Tucker … ‘They are chomping at your heels dean.’

I think that Jamel can take care of business. In Sunday’s game he was targeted 8 times; only allowed 4 catches (50% was excellent). Bucs had 6 PDs total; Dean had 3 of those (no other CB had any PDs). He had 6 solo tackles with 0 missed tackles (not that shabby).

Morrison has been down for weeks, and missed all of preseason. He ‘practiced last week on a “limited” basis’ according to the article above. Houston has a pretty decent offense, even though they only scored 9 points in their 1st game. Personally I’d prefer that we stick with Dean as long as he’s healthy.

    @JA
It’ll make more sense when he inevitably gets hurt in a big game and the team has to scramble.

In reality, I think his agent knows what his market value is and maybe Dean just didn’t want to uproot right before the season and risk having a bad season leading into free agency next year. His stock is already down, might as well play in a system you know and try to raise his value without distraction.

  12. Texas Bucs Fan Says:

Why would any worthwhile coach place a starting corner on special teams? If He gets injured, it would have a negative effect on the team and the season. Poor coaching!!!

  13. Lefty Says:

    Agree with TX Bucs fan

  14. dmatt Says:

I say throw Morrison out during live fire to bring the best out of him. He’s aggressive, a ball hawk, has good hands and feet placement, has excellent field of vision n awareness, n for Dean’s sake, is not butter finger n clumsy. I have no doubt that pound for pound, n hand’s down, Morrison is better than Dean. Dean play so confused n appears at time that he don’t know where to line up at.

  15. JA Says:

    Gotbucs——

I agree to a point, but nearly every stat website has Dean ranked between the 17th and 19th best corner in the league.
I know it’s hard for many of us to believe, but based on passes defendant and yards allowed he’s up there pretty darn high. Of course this is based on games played. Injuries are not considered.

  16. Cometowin2 Says:

Dean can be frustrating at times but is well worth 4.25 million especially if you use his press man abilities. Someone else posted after the pay cut that there is a bonus opportunity that could radically increase his pay. Not sure if this is accurate. Might explain why he was willing to take the pay cut.

  17. orlbucfan Says:

Looking forward to actually hearing what Morrison brings to the table. Hope Izien is 100%. He is a headhunter. The tougher the Defense, the better our chances to beat Houston.

  18. Stpetematt Says:

Now that we are playing more man Dean’s excellence will shine even more. The Bucs almost always win when he’s in the game. Morrison better be amazing to be able to replace him. I know he’s also a very tight cover corner. The Bucs should be aiming to have a near starting caliber corner on the bench every year. They almost always get injured.

  19. MelvinJunior Says:

@JA – Supposedly, someone said, that Dean also, receives an ‘additional’ $500,000 gameday bonus for every game that he is actively available. Which, would make up for the $8-$8.5 Million Dollars. If true, I guess, it would act as some ‘protection’ for the Bucs, due to his horrible injury-history, over the past several seasons. He didn’t want to risk being cut or traded and was a way for him to stay in Tampa Bay (betting on himself), and guaranteeing his availability. I’d say that a whole lot more went into this behind the scenes as well, concerning this discussion on both sides, including with his agent, & etc.

  20. JA Says:

The bonus incentives, according to AI and reputable sources, is a total bonus of 750,000$, max. Only one source I found increased his bonuses to near 7 mil., or 2.75 mil. extra, still a far fall from 12.3. — 13.

  21. Aqualung Says:

He’ll come in next to Vita to play DT and then spell Reddick on edge while those two drop deep. The genius keeps ‘em guessing.

  22. MelvinJunior Says:

I have no idea, “JA.” Honestly, haven’t cared enough to. Someone on here, who acted as if they knew what they were talking about, said it. That’s why I said, “supposedly.” And, just took it with a grain of salt, like I did with the other comments on that same particular post from the other day. It made as much sense to me as what anyone else said. Since, NO ONE really knew 💯.

  23. Aqualung Says:

    Jmark nails it
