Monday Mourning

September 15th, 2025

Joe’s posting this in hopes Baker Mayfield somehow sees it. Allegedly, the Bucs’ franchise quarterback gets motivated when he’s dissed publicly, and that’s what CBS Sports HQ did with the graphic below.

Joe was surprised just how historically bad Mayfield’s record is on Monday Night Football. Joe’s also surprised to see Hall of Fame QB Joe Namath’s name on there. Hopefully, Mayfield takes a step toward ending this mess tonight in Houston.

No….according to JBF we have Super Bowl Players….So….the ball is in the COACH Court. I pay attention to all the info here.

    AFTER WATCHING ATLANTA LAST NIGHT

    What I think …
    1. Bucs Defense dominates this game.
ATL is better than we thought which means our defense is better than we thought. They are healthy. I expect a lot of impact plays.

    2. Bucs Offense controls the game.
ATL defense is solid. I expect more passing yards early which will open the run game up late.

The Bucs and Falcons are going to change a lot of people’s minds on the NFCS.

  3. Brandon Says:

I think it was because by the time MNF came around, Namath was nothing more than a Has Been with a big name. His last years were brutal.

  4. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If I were a betting man, I would bet against the Bucs in this one. But I’m not, so my heart is saying Go Bucs!

  5. Aqualung Says:

I wish Jason had hired Brian Flores to be Todd’s DC. We have a chance to lose every game with the Genius calling the defense and coaching players to regress.

  6. Stpetematt Says:

I like the Bucs chances in this one. They need to plan for and stop Nico Collins to win. I have Collin’s in fantasy and im playing against Baker Mayfield and Mike Evans. I’d rather the Bucs win than my fantasy team though. Maybe the Bucs have a huge rushing day, lol.

  7. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

“The future ain’t what it used to be”

Now is always a good time to start a new streak, a better streak.

  8. Smarter than Joe Says:

When your defense averages being the 24th ranked pass defense you are already at a disadvantage

Monday Night & Prime Time games are usually good or perceived good teams vs good teams. when your team is lacking in the defensive coordinator, head coach and pass defense areas it’s hard to win in these prime time games

Again a teams Win/Loss record is not a QB stat it is a head coach stat

  9. BucVoyager Says:

Is there a QB more overrated than Namath? His dimples, coat and defense got him into the hall.

  10. KABucs Says:

I find it funny how often the Giants get to play Monday night football. They’ve been a crappy team for quite a while now but because they’re New York, they get put on Monday night Football way more than what’s deserving. Daniel Jones shouldn’t have that many Monday night games under his belt. I don’t watch Monday night Football unless it’s a good matchup. I can’t remember the last time I watched the Giants play on Monday night. I think the last time few times I watched any Giants games at all was because they were playing the Bucs.

  11. Fred Says:

To report bad news about our QB on MNF and not put in the post who he beat is diabolical. Sometimes I wonder whos side you’re on Joe.

  12. Tackleblockwin Says:

Game description: Bucs vs the Texans, night time, and hopefully not the refs.

  13. KABucs Says:

… It’s mid-afternoon on a Monday when the Bucs play in just a few hours. Baker’s definitely not going to be seen this but I have a feeling he knows exactly what his Monday night record is. I hope that’s motivating him

  14. Farmer Says:

I think it’s worth adding context to those 7 lost games.

He lost 3 whilst at the Browns, 1 whilst at the Rams (which is unfair to hold against him since he had only been there just over a week) and 3 whilst at the Bucs.

The 3 on the Browns were against the 2019 49ers (who went to the superbowl), the 2020 Ravens (they lost 42-47) and 2021 Steelers when Baker was injured.

The 3 on the Bucs were against the 2023 Eagles who were coming off the 2022 Superbowl, the 2024 Ravens where Evans & Godwin got injured and finally the 2024 Chiefs where the game went to overtime and we lost without even getting a possession even though we didn’t have Evans, Godwin OR McMillan.

So yeah, Baker hasn’t done great on MNF but hes pretty much played top 5 teams every single time hes played MNF with the exception of the 2021 steelers where he was injured.

  15. JustVisiting Says:

    Time for an eye exam.

  16. Funderstruck Says:

Fred—Joe is reporting on the CBS graphic and segment, not creating content. I saw the same thing days ago and I don’t think it was mentioned who he beat on the segment. I don’t know who it was either…and I think I’m still capable of understanding CBS’ point: Mayfield has a bad record on MNF.

…and Joe wants to hopefully motivate Mayfield with it. Some things are just that simple.

  17. Davyboy Says:

    Smarter than Joe👍🏼
One example was Monday night 2024 VS. KC in the rain. Drove the field in the 4th quarter for the win….but kicked for 1 and lost instead of going for 2 and the win. That was all coaching, nuff said.

  18. Defense Rules Says:

Aqualung … ‘We have a chance to lose every game with the Genius calling the defense and coaching players to regress.’

Uhhh, just a reminder Aqualung, we’re already 1-0. Odds of us losing every game are quite slim.

  19. Kenton Smith Says:

First MNF game he played he went in down 2 TDs in the 2nd quarter as a rookie. Pulled out Cleveland’s first win in 19 games. He didn’t start, didn’t count on his record. He’s 4-1 on Thursday nights. He drove the Rams 98 yards to win a Thursday night game. He didn’t start, he doesn’t get credit for that. I’m getting tired of Jordan incessant needling of Baker about this non issue. I expect an article here in about 6 or 7 hours with Joe taking credit for getting Mayfield fired up for the game. Might wanna start outlining said article Joe. I can’t wait to read it!

  20. MelvinJunior Says:

Yep. ESPN has been running it across their ticker all during NFL Live, too!

  21. MelvinJunior Says:

The Bucs and Falcons aren’t changing anyone’s mind on the NFCS. It’s all about the Saints and Panthers. A lot of people picked ATL to win the Division, and several others, had both, them and the Bucs going to the Playoffs! But, most only view both as being slightly above average teams. And, regardless, none of that takes anything away from what the Division has been for the past several seasons. By the way, I picked them both going to the playoffs. And, I think ATL is pretty good, especially IF they can keep the Big-Penix healthy. With that said, I don’t believe Minnesota is a great football team right now, and I had them missing the playoffs entirely, this season. I’m NOT a ‘believer’ in McCarthy, and MAN, that OLine looked ATROCIOUS last night.

  22. Joey Storm Says:

Excellent point Farmer. Let’s see how he does against a team other than the Eagles, Ravens, or Chiefs.

  23. orlbucfan Says:

Hey Joe, seriously, I know you got to make $$ of this site. BUT is this really a Bucs fan blog? Sometimes, I wonder. Yeah, we long time Tampa Bay fans know all about this, just like winning games in temps 40 degrees and lower. This rap is getting kinda stale.

  24. Oscar Says:

Thank you Farmer! Thank you for putting a stupid take into the proper perspective.

  25. BakerTillIDie Says:

no game day threaD, D get it done, baker, about 120 qbr, discount the oline, team, fight

  26. BakerTillIDie Says:

Just…all are stupid. probalyly 24-10, bucs, unless, baker gets pissed, then, who knows
